*Please note that this episode of the RISE Podcast was "recorded" on 03/16/18, before RISE 20*

Humble: “How is it going everybody? Welcome back to another episode of the RISE Podcast. You are not gonna wanna miss this one, as our guests for today are the #2 and #1 ranked fighters on the RISE P4P rankings, Randy Kelly and Wes Ray! Up first I will be asking our current lightweight champion, Randy, some questions. How are you, Randy?”

    http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/2/2w18.jpg

Randy Kelly: I’m feeling good, training is going good im hoping to defend my belt or take another one as soon as possible”

Humble: “At the moment, nobody seems to be in contention for your belt, and it is actually confirmed that you’ll be taking on the latest signing, Ty Nikulesci, under TWGC rules. Are you looking forward to that bout?”

Randy Kelly: “Yeah im looking forward for that fight , I always wanted to do a grappling match . I love testing myself in other areas of fighting, i love competing.”

Humble: “Are you confident you are going to win this fight?”

Randy Kelly: “If it was in MMA i would be sure one hundred percent that i will win but for as good of a grappler i am BJJ is a different area but im still confident that i will win something like 80%”

Humble: “With some training in your stand up, would you ever consider doing Kickboxing in your career?”

Randy Kelly: “Yes sure why not ? i would love to do a kickboxing match.”

Humble: “It would be interesting to see how that would go. Now, out of the entire RISE lightweight division, who do you think you could be facing next?”

Randy Kelly: I don't know at first 155 was the best and most stacked division in RISE but now the division is not good, I will face the one who will cement himself as the no 1 contender”

Humble: “I agree with that. Luckily, you have that grappling fight to look forward to though. Thank you for your time, Randy. We hope to talk to you again soon!”

“Put your money on who you think will win at RISE 20!”

[Wes Ray is seen shaking hands with Humble before they both take their seats]

Humble: “Heyo welcome back. We are now sitting down with the Middleweight Champion, Wes Ray. Wes, you’ve dominated at RISE so far and rightfully earned your place at the #1 spot in the RISE P4P Rankings. Nobody has been able to defeat you in the cage, but now another challenger has come in attempt to become the first to best you, and take the belt. This time it is Max Slaughter who will be attempting it when you two face off this Saturday. How do you think the fight is going to go? Are you prepared for it?”

    http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/42/42b6.jpg

Wes Ray: “How do I think it's going to go? Is this even a real question? I'm "The Best" for a reason. No-one is stopping me, I'm leaving the cage the same way I'm entering it: the champion. That belt might as well be tattooed around my waist. The guy can wrestle. While we never got to wrestle one another in college I do feel like I am the better wrestler, and I think we can pretty much all agree not only is my bjj legit but definitely better than his. Also I have power in my hands. Even though I know I am better than Max, I do what I always do and hit the gym. So yes I'm prepared.”

Humble: “Speaking of college, you said that you were a NCAA Division 1 Champion while you were at Iowa State University until you were forced to move back to support your family. Do you mind giving any more details on your experiences of wrestling at Iowa State?”

Wes Ray: “Well I enjoyed it as well as my time in Junior College beforehand. But nothing quite compares to learning from Cael Sanderson. That guy is probably the best wrestler and wrestling coach in the world.”

Humble: “He certainly seems to be an icon over there. Now, when you moved back home to your family, you apparently started taking some online Gracie Academy classes, and soon earned your blue belt in BJJ. What were the classes like?”

Wes Ray: “They were fun and you have to take a video of you doing certain things to pass your blue belt. When i got my purple belt a little bit back you have to get it from them in person for purple and higher. But they have tons and tons of instructional step by step videoes that you can just watch time after time. The only problem is unless you have a grappling dummy you do have to find a person to practice the stuff on and that isn't always easy. But I enjoyed it immensely.”

Humble: “I’d feel a bit awkward if I had to record myself doing that sort of stuff. Anyway, moving on to other champions, who would you say, other than yourself, is the most feared and dominant champion RISE has at the moment?”

Wes Ray: “Well Kelly seems pretty dominant and to have the gull to call me out means eh also has some pretty big brass balls. So I'd throw him in there. Aron has just as many wins in RISE as I do so he has too but I don't think he wants any part of me.”

Humble: “Who do you think would have the best shot of possibly taking the title from you?”

Wes Ray: “Currently: no-one. In the future: Dante. Like I've said before the kid is a good fighter and he's young and constantly improving. He's good now and some day I think he will be great and the future of RISE or at least the future of 185.”

Humble: “Dante is a good fighter indeed, and i’m sure the fans would love to see you two battle it out one day. Anyway, let’s move on to the final question. You have proven that you can both knock people out and submit them, but which way of finishing your opponents would you say you enjoy the most?”

Wes Ray: “It's tough to say really. The animalistic side of me loves the not so technical school yard bully ole ground and pound, but the athlete and sportsman side in me likes the technical grappling less violent hope they tap so i don't have to do serious damage to them.”

Humble: “Both are very deadly. We’ll be seeing you again at RISE 20, where you’ll be defending your belt for the 3rd time. Take care and goodnight.”

  2. RISE 21 Preview

    By: Bigby Wolf

    Main Event
Matt Cooper (4-0) Vs. “Grumpy” Melvin Comeau (8-3)

Melvin Comeau has every reason to be “Grumpy”. After losing against Aron for the title for the second time, it doesn’t look like he’ll be getting another shot soon. On top of that he’s up against one of the hottest talents to have joined the ranks of Rise. Matt Cooper has 4 fights under his belt, all of which were won by knock-out. Both Cooper and Comeau have a similar fighting style and are trained extensively in Muay Thai. We should be in for a great fight, because both of these guys need this win. Comeau knows he’s fighting for his future in MMA, while Cooper knows all too well that the path to his future in the MMA will need a victory against one of the top contenders!

    Co-Main Event
Wale “White Chocolate” Ammond (4-1) Vs. Pyrrhus Nikos (4-1)

The Rise Lightweight division needs a few more contenders and both of these guys have proven that they can perform when that bell rings. Pyrrhis Nikos came to Rise as an unbeaten fighter (4-0), but his first fight against Nick Morris must have put a dent in his ambitions. The Greek will be looking to re-establish himself in this fight against an opponent that should suit his grappling/submission style better. His opponent “White Chocolate” will be entering this fight as a slight favourite. Wale Ammond has been nothing short of impressive ever since joining Rise and wrestling his way to two unanimous decisions against Messi and Shields. With both fighters lacking in true KO-power, you can be damn sure that this one will end in a submission or a decision.

    Fight 8

Athan "The Arachnid" Pallas (5-1) vs Armend Hardcore" Berisha (2-3)

    *Fight accepted on short notice*

    Fight 7
Charles “The Kid” Kenway (3-0) vs Catalin “The Young King” Marius (1-0)

Well, for those of you following our feeds you already know: if these will trade punches as well as they traded insults in the past few weeks we’re in for a legendary fight. The reality however seems slightly different. Marius may not like it, but bookmakers all over the world see him as a heavy underdog in this one. “The Young King” may be a slightly better fighter standing up, his punches don’t seem to pack the sort of power he will need to end this fight early and if he gets taken to the ground he’ll probably get his ass handed to him, because his opponent is by far the superior wrestler. And that’s what “The Kid” knows how to do better than anyone. A submission specialist, Kenway managed to make every opponent so far tap out in less than a minute. Kneebar, kimura, arm triangle… we’ve already seen it all from him and he was on display for less than 2 minutes total. You read that right! Charles Kenway’s career in the ring counts 117 seconds and 3 submission victories. It would be quite an upset if we don’t see another quick submission victory in this one!

    Fight 6
“Team 10” Carlos Anderson (4-1) vs Frank Granger (1-0)

Youtube-star and all round fighter Carlos Anderson has been working his way up the chart of Rise. His only loss so far was against current champ Henry Aron, but other than that he dominated his fights from start to finish. Anderson Packs a mean punch and combines it with an excellent ground game making him a force to be reckoned with. He’ll be up against young Frank Granger. With only one fight to his name, Granger still has a lot to prove, but what we saw from him so far was impressive. In his first fight at Rise 17 he knocked out Jim Crocker in 24 seconds, making Crocker leave Rise complete disillusioned. At the young age of 19 the Cleveland-Born brawler shows a lot of potential, but he will need the upset victory over Anderson to start a streak!

    UNDERCARD

    Fight 5
Niudu Kakka (3-0) vs Bill “The Thrill” Hardwick (2-1)

Niudu Kakka is well on his way to getting a shot at Randy Kelly’s title. With 3 victories in less than 2 minutes Kakka has been going medieval on his opponents’ collective asses. The Fin is only 19 years old and already ranked #3 in the Rise rankings. Another win will cement his way towards that title fight everyone is hoping for and it looks unlikely anyone will be able to hold him back. His opponent Bill Hardwick is working his way back up the MMA ladder after a bad start of his career in SNPF, where he lost a controversial decision match. After getting picked up by Rise he seemed to be hell bent on proving his worth in the world of MMA, wrecking Changggg and AJ Daniels with strikes. Being the stronger boxer “The Thrill” certainly has that puncher’s chance and maybe even more to win this one and cause an upset.

    Fight 4
Samuel “The Gentleman” Gervais (3-0) vs Ian “The Blade” McMahon (2-0)

Guys that are great at boxing and get nicknamed “The Gentleman” are something to watch out for, and this is certainly true for Samuel Gervais. The Canadian has been on a roll since his debut in the MMA. Getting 3 first round victories easily, he has yet to find an opponent that can go toe-to-toe with him. Maybe Ian McMahon can be his first real test. McMahon is an all-rounder, but lacks in true finishing power, winning one fight in the second round and one by decision. He may get the edge if the fight gets taken to the ground, but the bookmakers see him getting knocked out quickly by “The Gentleman”.

    Fight 3
Fred “Red” Daniels (1-1) Vs. Michael “Down There” Grundmann (2-1)

If I need to put my money on which fight will last the longest this is probably it. Fred Daniels has had one loss and one victory in his career, but in both his bouts, the referees decided the winner. His opponent, Grundmann, has shown in the past that he has the capability to make someone tap out, but his first fight in Rise saw the judges decide the match as well. With both these fighters being fairly evenly matched it’s hard to pick a winner, so we’ll let the judges decide!

    PRELIMS

    Fight 2
Slipp “The Kid” Rock (1-2) Vs. Corey “The Crimp” Valentine (0-1)

There’s a reason this one is so far down the list. Slipp Rock has lost his first two Rise fights and if he wants something of a career he needs to start winning soon. After getting knocked out at exactly 2:46 in the first round twice it’ll be thrilling to see if he can get past the 3 minute mark. His opponent, Corey Valentine, has yet to win his first fight, but he did put up quite a fight in his MMA Debut. He managed to take Robin cohen deep into the third round before tapping out to an Americana. If he can keep the fight away from the ground he may have a shot at winning his first fight and ending “The Kid’s” career .

    Fight 1
Carlos “Droopy” Jimenez (2-3) Vs. Raghave “Ragster” Upadhyaya (3-2)

A light heavyweight bout at the bottom of the rankings. Jimenez has been working really hard te re-establish himself in the world of MMA after starting his career with 3 successive losses. And in the last few weeks he actually succeeded, getting 2 knock out victories got Rise so far to offer him a shot and he looks like he’ll do anything to make the best of it. His opponent Upadhyaya had been on a roll since joining Rise until Daniel Orndorf overpowered him at Rise 17. If the “Ragster” wants to get his flow going again he really needs to win here.

  4. RISE 20 Preview

Main Event & Co-Main Event By: Neon Richards

Fights 7/8 & Undercard By: Humble Greco

    Main Event

Wes "The Best" Ray (5-0) Vs. Max "Sergeant " Slaughter (4-0)

This is the event that people have been waiting for since the start of the reign of Wes Ray. This fight is going to be a back and forth fight that we expect will be going to the ground quickly and be worked on from then. Either way this fight goes their is going to be a huge crowd reaction and a fight that you are not going to miss as one of these great fighters are going to be walking out of the cage with the belt and the other one with there first loss in there career. Wes Ray is coming into this fight the favorite with 3 submissions to his name and 2 (T)KO victories to it as well as people know that he is good on the feet even with his purple belt some say that he has no weakness but if someone is going to figure it out it's going to be Max Slaughter. Max Slaughter is coming into this match winning all of his 4 fights by (T)KO and never leaving the match in the judges hands. He likes to finish his fights and loves to see his opponents lying on the canvas at the end of the night. So will we see the defending champ hold onto his belt for the 4th time or will we be seeing a new champ in the 185 division? You are not going to want to miss this.

    Co-Main Event

Max Onera (4-0) Vs. "Terrible" Terrell Jones (5-1)

As you can see this card just keeps getting better and better with this next fight we will be seeing another 185 bout with one submission specialist and the other a (T)KO King. Both of these fighters are coming in to the fight pretty even on the scorecards. The one turning point in this match is obvious if it goes to the ground we will be seeing another victory on the side of Max Onera and a #1 contender shot for the belt. But if it stays standing we could see another victory on the side of Terrell Jones. Both of these fighters though could be looking past this fight at the main card event both of these fighters have been submitted by Wes Ray on his tear through the division and they are looking to get a shot at that target on his back. So will we be seeing a war on the feet or a skirmish on the ground? You are going to have to find out.

    Fight 8

Athan “The Arachnid” Pallas (5-0) vs Carlos “Ruthless” Lawler (6-3)

Moving on to our 8th fight for tonight, we are going to be seeing the undefeated Athan Pallas attempt to break into the top 5 of the welterweight division, as he takes on the #5 ranked welterweight, Carlos Lawler. Lawler was unlucky coming into RISE when he lost to former champ, Meatball Destroyer, by unanimous decision. Though, he bounced back with a swick submission victory against Facundo Galley which brought him back into contention. For Athan Pallas, this will be his second fight for RISE. Pallas impressed in his debut by submitting Alexis Anderson in the second round. Now, Looking at the stats, Lawler is no joke on the feet nor the ground as he has shown that he is a remarkable boxer and has a purple belt in BJJ; however, Pallas’ wrestling should make Lawler’s boxing obsolete. The fight is more than likely to be taken to the ground and in the control of Pallas, but Lawler’s BJJ could give him another victory by submission. I can’t wait to see how this one finishes.

    Fight 7

Jean Luc Phaneuf (2-0) vs Daniel “The Hammer” Orndorf (2-0)

Our first fight on the main card tonight showcases two undefeated fighters who have both dominated in their fights for RISE thus far. This fight bring a new #1 contender to the 205 division, and should be a war. Orndorf came to RISE with no fights to his name, and in his professional debut he defeated his opponent in just 21 seconds. His second fight kept his total time spent in the cage under a minute, as it only took him 32 seconds to end the fight. Orndorf has got serious power in his fists that he’ll look to use tonight against Phaneuf. As for Phaneuf, he also came to RISE with zero fights to his name, which is why it was very impressive to see the shows that he put on for the fans. Both fights went to the judges decision, but they were easy decisions indeed. Phaneuf is a decent wrestler, but seems to use it to keep the fight standing; therefore, we should expect another great show, and a serious brawl!

    UNDERCARD

    Fight 6

Tommy “T-Rex” Tank (4-0) vs “The Sleeping Giant” Rich Silva Jr (3-1)

Next up we have #2 heavyweight, Tommy Tank, go head to head with #4 heavyweight, Rich Silva Jr. This one should be both fighter’s toughest fight to date. Silva should try his best to keep this fight standing, for even though both fighters have received their purple belts, Tank does have the advantage in his wrestling. Silva has showcased his boxing skills in his previous fight with Bobby Knuckles so we can expect for him to be looking to do the same to Tank tonight. It’ll be interesting to see if Tank can take him down or not. Let’s find out.

    Fight 5

Tony “Amped” Agotti (1-1) vs Carmelo Anthony (0-1)

For the fifth fight tonight, Tony Agotti and Carmelo Anthony will attempt to show us who the better fighter is. Both fighters are pretty balanced in all areas for the fight with Agotti seeming to be more proficient in his Boxing and BJJ, and Anthony in Muay Thai and Wrestling. A win is needed here for both fighters if they want to be taken seriously, so let’s see who wants it more!

    Fight 4

Next we’ll be seeing Deniis Reynolds and Armend Berisha face off. Deniis Reynolds has some fantastic ground and pound that he showcased in his RISE debut against Nathan Shield. We’ll most likely see him try to do the same to Berisha tonight; however, Reynolds should be cautious in doing so as Berisha has a taste in the submission category. He was able to submit his last opponent, but it isn’t certain that he’ll be able to have any sort of control on the ground against a superior wrestler. Berisha needs a win here, but it won’t be easy with his undefeated opponent. Let’s see if he can pull it off.

    Fight 3

Opening up our undercard, Mike Swick will be going up against Herbert Fliegknecht. This will be Mike Swick’s RISE debut and he will be wanting to start off with a bang. Swick unfortunately came up short in his debut QFC bout, but rebounded with two KO wins that add up to a brief 20 seconds. He’ll be hoping that he can keep his win streak going tonight against a fighter who hasn’t been as fortunate thus far in his career. Fliegknecht may have fought hard in both of his fights, but he is yet to secure a win. For that reason, we can expect to see him fight his hardest tonight. He’ll most likely attempt to bring this fight to the ground against Mike, for Mike is strong in the stand up, but shows many weaknesses in his ground game that can be exploited. It shouldn’t be tough to bring him down, but as stated earlier, Mike is a fan of those quick KOs. Will he get another one?

  5. I hope he comes back not just for the tournament but my island fighter is in his org and if he doesnt come back soon will run of money and wont be able to train untill his contract is up. Side note I would love to see Blake Phoenix in the semis vs me. However in all 3 previous tournaments i have been in, i have lost round 2 ironically last one was to Blake.

Yea. My Island fighter is stuck there too, unfortunately.
