    An Interview with Mellow Mood

    Age: 39

    Record: 34-14

    27 KOs

    Height: 7 0

    Fighting Out of: Kingston, Jamaica

    Fights at: 265, 265+

    Org: N/A

    Mellow Mood

    Q. So Mellow, tell us about your upbringing.

    A. Thanks for the interview. I was born Mellow Marley in Kingston, Jamaica. Mellow is Bob Marleys 3rd cousin on my moms side. However, after Bobs death, my parents changed my name to Mellow Mood in order to distance us from royal blood.

    Q. How did you get into fighting?

    A. I was always the most aggressive one in the Marley family. Maybe I just wanted to act out against my Mellow name, but I always had tons of energy as a kid. I could never sit still in drum circle like the rest of my family. I didnt inherit any of the family talent. I did however, inherit the families ugliest face. So I figured I may as well develop some scar tissue as an excuse.

    Q. Good one. What is the favorite fight of your career?

    A. Well, my first title win back from my days in Warzone was special, but id have to say my first 265+ title win at Synchronicity. Second round, about 2 minutes in I knew I rocked him. He tried to charge at me and I caught him with a jab for an instant KO. Winning that belt on such a big stage meant a lot to me.

    Q. After 2 defenses, you walked away from Sync, and took over a year off. Why was that?

    A. Truthfully, I didnt know if I still wanted to fight. It had definitely taken its toll on my body. I tried to take time off,But after about 6 months i felt restless. I knew I had to come back to the game.

    Q. What are your plans for the future?

    A. Im still fighting at a high level. I want to join another org. I want to get one more title shot. Ill go out on my shield if i have to, but i want my last fight to be for a title. In terms of after fighting, i might start a business making those stoner hoodies, or maybe a Yerba Mate tea business. As of right now, Im helping Arlo Flower Power Rochester with his striking. We have very similar striking abilities. All things considered, Im very excited for the future.

Bob's 3rd cousin on his Mom's side. Some say he got all the ugly genes in the Marley clan. Mellow Mood grew up on the streets of Kingston keeping his 'royal' blood a secret. Gut Punch keeps Mood on a balanced diet of Sativa blends for the mind and a high calorie diet to maintain his impressive girth. Currently training fellow flower child Arlo Rochester. Warzone HW Champ Epicity HW Champ MFN SHW Champ 3x SYNC Champ

An Interview with prospect Arlo Flower Power Rochester

    0 -0

    19 Years Old

    Height: 6 2

    Fights at 170

    Hometown: Wichita, KS

    Fighting Out of: Los Angeles

    Signed to: RISE

    Q. So Arlo, how did you get into fighting?

A: I took Karate when I was younger, against my parents wishes. My parents are complete hippies, and never wanted me to get into fighting. I stopped Karate, but MMA was something I was still incredibly interested in. While taking the summer off of baseball, I decided id take up Jiu Jitsu. That was a couple summers ago. Everything falls into place, and I ended up competing in my first professional fight a week ago.

    Q. Did you inherit any of that Hippie BS from your parents?

    A. For sure. Im really into yoga, and so I train it often. Im also really into meditation. Im vegetarian, which really helps make 155 even though Im 62. Ive delved into other hippie traditions as well. Lets just say that I had a nickname I liked better, but it was already taken by Nick Diaz during his Strikeforce days.

    Q. A lot of people have compared you to the Diaz brothers.

    A. Theyre definitely my idols, I watched them all the time growing up. I think I have a similar build, and my cardio is one of my strengths. I dont have knock out power, but just like the diaz bros, I focus on volume instead of power.

    Q. So youre from Kansas. How was the move to LA?

Its not at all what I imagined. I wasnt expecting this many people. It takes so much longer to get everywhere. It has been an adjustment. That being said, I think the move out to LA was a great career move. Im currently training at 11th Planet Jiu Jitsu. Ive been spending a lot of time with 4x Kansas state wrestling Champ Jared Morgan. I recently signed with RISE, a company that im really Excited to be a part of.

    Q. What do you hope to get out of your fighting career?

    A. I think something that Im always chasing is respect. Im the same way in baseball. I want people to respect my abilities, and respect my presence as an athlete. Im not the biggest guy in the cage, but I know I have the most heart.

    Q. Do you think your baseball career will get in the way of your MMA career?

    A. Well see how it goes. Baseball has been a lifelong passion of mine, but realistically, the average professional career is 3 years. I expect to be done playing by the time im 24. After that, I can fully commit to MMA. That ebing said, I think the baseball experience has helped my fight game. Ive developed strong legs and a mean right hook, both from baseball. So Im excited to see how that will translate to full time MMA.
