May 7th 2010 saw the start of a huge new era in Tycoonland with Convicted KING K-1 holding their first ever event in front of a sold out crowd @ Hayashi's Lounge - London. This event has been long in the making and a highly anticipated moment in the world of MMAtycoon. With 10 fights on the card for the new Org and no less than 8 100% ratings the 1st event in the history of K1 Tycoon could hardly have got off to a better start. Here are the pick of the nights fights. Kip Flenderson Vs Maximus Decimus Meridius Starting the night and writing the 1st chapter of history not only for Convicted KING K1 but also themselves were two excellent Muay Thai specialists. Flenderson came out swinging immediately throwing kicks high and low managing and cut Maximus with a stinging high kick within the first minute aswell as manipulating Meridius into the clinch. At 0:30 into Meridius’ career it was starting to look like he had made the wrong choice leaving the Italian Military to pursue a life in MMA. Flenderson landing head kicks, knees to the head, elbows to the temple and manhandling his opponent in the clinch was starting to look a good bet to take the his 1st career “W”. On the 0:45 mark Meridius threw out a tenuous elbow (hoping to get out of the world of pain he was suffering ) that landed flush on the temple of Flanderson returning the favour of the cut. The tide appeared to be changing, the next minute saw Meridius stop almost everything thrown at him. A disheartened Flanderson started to show his frustration throwing lazy high kicks. Meridius quickly countered with a lovely head kick of his own sending Flanderson crashing to the mat, this was repeated 20 seconds later, this time Meridius followed his opponent down slapping him around until the ref was forced to stop the fight. After 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Maximus Decimus Meridius! Co-Main Event Ivan Arlovski Vs John Lennon The co-main event saw 2 fighters with a grudge to bare lay it down in the squared circle. Arlovski, a career fighter with 13 fights under his belt before tonight came the slight underdog for this stand-up event against Lennon, an excellent boxer with a record of 4-0 going into this fight. Both fighters came out looking to throw down and the 1st 0:30 saw a scrappy series of arms flying without much accuracy, this all changed when Arlovski threw a double head kick. Lennon blocked the 1st but didn’t see the 2nd coming which caught him just above the eye opening a gash that the crowd found very entertaining, as too did Lennon it would appear by the smile that reached across his face just before he invited Arlovski to repeat the action. Arlovski took the bait and threw multiple strikes of which Lennon slipped before unleashing 0:10 of pain with the fists. Left straight, right hook, body shot, kick to the body, dodge the counter, step forward – BIG overhand right,” Arlovski drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes!” proclaims the commentator, as Lennon crams Arlovskis face with some ground and pound for good measure before the ref jumps in and lets Arlovski sleep in peace!!! After 0:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Lennon! Main Event Winters Vs Bonjasky With a combined 17 wins coming into the fight we were always due something special for the 1st ever main event of Convicted KINGS K1 – Winters 7-0 unblemished record against Bonjasky’s 10-2 record, and Bonjasky was off the back of a loss too. This would end badly for 1 fighter at least!!! Bonjasky’s experience showed early as he came out the most aggressive fighter, chopping at Winters legs and buckling his lead leg on a couple of occasions. By the 2:00 mark of the first round the crowd were psyced and were letting the fighters know, Winters took the most from the crowd landing significantly more hits in the coming minute finishing up with a right hand square on the kisser. This seemed to wake Bonjasky up in what was seemingly becoming a turn based strategy fight, Looping left hand (dazed Winters), inside leg kick, check low leg kick, hook to body (the crowd like that), head kick – CUT, Bonjasky was all over this fight, the punishment continued for the next minute, Winters cut gets worse with a cracking punch to the head. Bonjasky getting so comfortable he started taunting Winters “You’re gonna get knocked out” whilst still landing hit after hit after hit. Winters only respite came when he was kicked in the nuts shortly before the 6:00 mark, getting 5 minutes to recover for his troubles. Remarkably Winters got to the end of the first round after his cut gets considerably worse. Unfortunately for Winters the punishment didn’t end there. Legs kicks, head kicks, more leg kicks and it appears that Winters hadn’t shown up for round 2. Round 1’s beating and the cut that is still bleeding has done the job it was supposed to. Bonjasky lands a final head kick 3 minutes onto round 2, Winters struggling to keep his eye open is called to see the doctor, after walking a couple of feet to the left of the Doc. Before feeling him out with the arm that he can still use the Doc ends his pain, his night is over and so is the first event. After 3:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ernesto Bonjasky! And so a successful 1st event comes to a close for CK1. Great beginnings should have been the title for this event as it truly was a great beginning for a great Org. Credit must go to Mark Berry and the team who have taken the K1 format and made it their own, The brand can be seen across Tycoonland in many cities, this brand is just getting started and a new chapter in MMA is about to explode. See you next time in the CK1 review brought to you by Drill-Sergeant. Fight of the night Hideo Winters Vs Ernesto Bonjasky KO of the Night Stand Miller Winners recieve $1000 and a 159 supplement of their choice from Convicted Traphouse in LA. That's it till next time, Again thanks to all those involved, onwards to bigger and better events! MarkB
