  1. Don't stress about the cost of a gym. I live in Albuquerque, and the world-famous Jackson's mma camp only costs $100 per month. Fit NHB here, where Carlos Condit, Ox Wheeler and others trained (before Carlos moved to Arizona) only costs $50 per month. So be a good consumer and shop around. Also, this will be your first test of commitment. Say you do end up having to get a job flippin burgers, in addition to going to school, and training. Are you gonna do what it takes? Or bag out the first chance ya get because it's too hard, or too expensive, or you don't have enough time? Best of luck though, the fight game is gonna be tough but I admire anyone who makes that choice. Cheers!
  2. ^^ What they said. Also, make sure your Morale is ok. After losing so much it might be wrecked, which will have an impact on both your training and your fighting.
  3. +1 Perfect A good addition with minimal coding effort.

    Morale

Ya, gym cleanliness is a sneaky morale-sapper. Someone who accidentally stays in Cozad for a few weeks might find their morale dropping without understanding why.

  6. Tends to Cut isn't great, but isn't necessarily a reason to sack him. You will risk losing fight to a cut but it can be worked around with good defenses. I think the "Good in Bed" one is considered generally useless, not bad, but definitely not a good one. Also, "Plays Chess" and "Enjoys Gardening" although I think someone said Plays Chess means he's smart. Basically those show up when there's nothing else good to say about your fighter
  7. And watch for bad ones like "Cuts easily" as much as for good ones like "Granite Chin"
  8. Reminds me of that South Park episode...
  9. With financial sense excluded, we're left with "we know MT and Wrestling play into Clinchwork, but how about Boxing which would be the only reason to triple Elite?" I would think Boxing plays into it, even if it's a tiny percentage, like minard said, there is a dirty boxing aspect to Clinchwork. So even if Clinchwork is 60% MT, 35% Wrestling, and only 5% Boxing, then sure, having a triple elite would indeed give you the maximum possible training benefit. Would you pay all that much more, for the nominal help that Elite Boxing provides? Up to you. It may even be hard to test the efficacy of getting that full 5% in training anyway. Btw, I'd bet that boxing plays somewhat more than 5%
  10. Exactly what MrCee said. Think about what kind of gym you want to operate, but also think about who you're competing with. I think Vegas is the only place that somebody can just hang a shingle with a $600 gym and people magically flock to it. Rio has a good population, but have a vision of what you want and make a solid plan to make it happen. Probably should have had that before starting the company because that determines the size of the loan you'd need There have been a few 'specialist' gyms, like Fort Knox in Vegas and Defend! in Hilo that focus only on Elite defensive training...the fact I know them by name testifies to how rare and special they are. There are ground specialists, or pure striking gyms. There are also tons of gyms that have a little of everything. Check out the gyms in Rio and make something there aren't already 8 of. Build your gym to your vision then get the name out there. Participate in forum discussions, learn how everything works so you can tell the fighters who are paying your bills everything they need to know about proper training. Once you're established, then you can play democracy and let your guys vote on your next Elite coach. Be flexible but not malleable, since the guy demanding a double elite defensive grappling coach is going to want punch technique in a couple weeks Be prepared to spend a lot of time nurturing it like a seed. Some gyms will run on autopilot, but there's always something more you can do, and if there's one thing I learned in my gym ownership, that hard work and time spent really does yield results. Good luck and keep positive!
  11. I highly recommend this shop. I bought a ton of stuff the other day, and recommend anyone else take a look too. Great designs at full price, at 50% off it's a no-brainer.

    Highstreet

This was mentioned back in October as part of a larger "what Highstreet needs" thread, but I would still like to see it ingame. Right now, your default Highstreet city is the city where your manager is based. For people who have fighters spread over 2 or more cities, it gets cumbersome trying to look at gyms or stores in distant cities, where you have to re-navigate the dropdown menu every time you close out a page. You can right-click a store and open in a new tab or window, but that's more of a workaround than 'how it should be'. I'd like to see a "Set current as default" button right by the Highstreet city dropdown. Say you're based in Vegas but have 5 fighters in Amsterdam. You'd start in Vegas, and choose A'dam from the dropdown menu just like normal. When A'dam comes up, a little toggle button right by the menu could lock A'dam as the default until you're done there, then you could leave it or choose another city if desired. As a small formatting issue, it shouldn't take too much programming time to get done if there's enough desire for it Cheers!

  14. I like the idea of more variety. There was a good but brief discussion HERE about very much the same thing, but it looks like its falling off the page soon.
  15. From the wiki: So it looks like sparring will affect your Primary and Secondaries, and training a Secondary will affect both your Physicals and Primaries as well. Cheers!
  16. Hi! It's my pleasure to announce that Peak Condition has become the number 1 fitness/sparring facility in the city of Amsterdam. Reaching our goal doesn't change the mission though, and we will continue to provide the best value pristine/brand new gym facilities in town, along with the service you've come to expect from the name Peak Condition. We will always have room for your fighters, and everyone is welcome to come take a look! My sincere thanks to all of our members, and to the greater MMA Tycoon community for your support. See ya in the gym!
  17. I always saw the fast Strength gains as intentionally that way in order to acclimate players to the slowness of other Attribute gains. Rather than exactly simulating strength levels in real life, it's an just an expedient for the sake of smooth gaming. Like Cardio is very fast, you get a lot of pops in a short time so a new player can see something going on with their training. Strength is a little slower, but still pretty fast, so people get the notion that different attributes take longer, so when they try Yoga they're not posting in Errors wondering why they aren't gaining Flex every session. I like your ideas in theory, and the slow-build crowd might not like things going slower but could cope with it. The people who want to roll up a 22 year old and get right to fighting in a short time might have more of a problem with it, to the point of dumping the game. Also, with high Strength and Conditioning the norm, the new guys who roll someone who will top out at Competent will be utterly screwed and the slow gain will make it longer and more frustrating to get to the point the realize they have a dud on their hands.
  18. Nice job, that was a good fight. It looked like you were well matched skill-wise. I liked how both of you were able to escape being mounted. I also liked your aggression, like early on when you were both looking for heel hooks, you were the one punching at his face, so I imagine that disrupted his concentration when he's trying to get the position just right Anyway, glad the video is up, it was well worth the watch. Congrats again! Cheers!

    show current day

+1 Simple, harmless fix that may help some people. Why not?
  20. The sparring session uses the average of all your sparring partners to determine its benefit to you, so if you have only 1 partner and he's much higher than you, that is the ideal sparring situation to be in.

    Post whores

    He's rocked!!!!
  22. Haha what would we have? A checkbox for "Use juice"? Giving you higher Strength gains than a supplement but if you get tapped by a random ingame piss test you get suspended for 6 months (maybe can't sack that fighter for that time either) LOL Let's add in the "Fights dirty" checkbox too, so your guy will try eyepokes, nutshots, grab the fence, and fake knees to the head to DQ your opponent The low blows in the pbp commentary will have to be changed to have a greater effect on in-fight stamina or something rather than just being colorful additions to the commentary. If you get dinged by the ref for dirty fighting too many times you risk point deductions or DQ yourself. No women fighters. It's such a small sliver of the current MMA scene it would be stupid to sim it, and would enough people roll up their own female fighters to even have female org fights?
  23. Drink: Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire and Tonic, also Bacardi Limon and Sprite. Taste good and don't make me sick. Beer: Beck's
  24. For crying out loud, 4 pages of this crap when the answer is already given. "Turn off your avatars" is the answer if you don't like the avatars people choose. "But...I don't wanna turn em off, I want everyone to do as I say!" is not the answer. Mike is the ultimate arbiter of what is "too much" as far as inappropriate content, and if something crosses the line, I'm sure he'll deal with it. I'd rather he spend his time developing the game than writing out clearly delineated lists of acceptable and unacceptable avatar content just to give you something more to bicker about. And shame on the guy who brought this back from the dead after a week, this thread should have died.

    Specific techniques

Took me a while to figure out the formatting, but that's looking good. Adding another 8 secondaries like you lined out will bring something to both gym owners and fighters. Especially if the number of coaches is kept the same, the owners will have to make a hard choice about what specialty disciplines they are going to accomodate. They *could* coach all the specialties, but not all in the same week while also supporting the base-level disciplines. They would have to make their gym specialize in certain areas, or rotate coaching by week in order to try to accommodate everyone. Mike would have to make sure Advanced skills are useful without being overpowered, but also make sure the base level Secondaries and Primaries are still critical to fighter success. Fighters would have all the slider strategy to work with, as well as making sure they're in the correct specialty gym to develop their fighters in the way they need. How to implement: 1 slider for Basic/Advanced skills -- Will determine how much the fighter looks for opportunities for Advanced Moves. A guy with no Advanced skill or who chooses not to use them can set the slider at 100% basic. 4 sliders for each of Advanced Boxing, Advanced Wrestling, Advanced Wrestling, Advanced Subs with Jake's subdivisions on the slider. Can be tickboxed so if you have no Adv BJJ for example or choose not to use it, you don't have to set the slider, it'll default to 100% Basic and never attempt Advanced moves. The slider will determine the amount the fighter favors one of the two types of Advanced moves. If he trained "Slams and Judo" high but neglected Scrambling, he'd want to set the slider far to the Slams side. If both were trained up and wanted to throw his full arsenal at his opponent, he'd pick 50/50. Thoughts?
