Invictus, thanks for the example. I'm looking for more examples like these. Unfortunately, we don't really know what his individual stats were. Do you think he had put the specific skill stats higher in stand up and all his genre stats in BJJ?
Also, how did your specific stats compare to your genre stats going into that fight (if you don't mind telling)? It seems like with superior wrestling and only slightly worse BJJ, you should have the defensive grappling advantage. It also looks like you were pretty aggressive on the ground with plenty of sub attempts. Do you think he just neglected to put points into his defensive grappling? Since you beat him on the ground with strikes, it seems like the defensive grappling you employed was the main difference maker and not your submission skills. And we know that defensive grappling is a combo of wrestling and BJJ (according to the wiki on hiring trainers).
I know that each aspect is important and that to be really great, you must be good in all fields. What I am really hoping to find with this discussion and these experiments is to what degree they effect each other. Obviously, we may never know with 100% certainty, but I think it's possible to break it down with some averages and have a good idea.
