Hey guys, I was just looking over some news sites, and saw a headline about what this topic is about. First off all, I should clear up I am not a Dirt Track racing fan, nor had i heard about the two people involved prior to this. There also is a video of the accident, which I will not post due to not knowing the rules regarding videos containing severe injuries and death. If you want to see it you should be able to find it on youtube. The story goes like this, saturday night, during a race, Kevin Ward Jr. was killed when he was struck by the car of Tony Stewart. Now I am fully aware that deaths occure in racing, as I do follow Formula 1 and back in the day there been many incidents there. However, this just seemed so bizare to me. In the video, you see Ward Jr. his car slide on the outside in the corner, and then it appears that his front hits the back of Stewart his car, which leads to Ward Jr. to spinning out and ending the race for him. However, Ward Jr. proceeds to get out the car angrily, walks into the track, pointing to Stewart in the distance, almost getting hit by another car before Stewart actually hits Ward Jr, with his right rear tire, which lead to Ward Jr. being hit and tossed about 50 yards, I am assuming he died on impact. The word is that Stewart hit the throttle near Ward Jr. to taunt him, however the car kicked sideways and struck Ward Jr. To me it seemed that the original spin before the fatal accident was caused by Ward Jr. when he came back out the corner. But maybe a dirt track fan knows better on how these cars react etc. Now, I don't know if its normal with dirt track racing to walk onto the track.. but it was a not a good move on Ward Jr. to walk there where racing cars were flying by at crazy speeds.. If he truly thought Stewart was to blame for the spin out, he should have waited till after the race in my opinion. There should have been safety stewards there that should have brought him off-track as soon he was out the car. So in a way, I think he is to blame himself for his death. However, Steward should also have slowed down and not get as close to Ward Jr. when driving by the next lap, knowing how these cars work after all the time he has driven them. So what are your guys thoughts on this? Who is to blame? Or is just a bizare accident in your eyes?
