The London bracket of the ACME bantamweight tourney kicks off round one at the Camden Conference Center – the largest venue yet for the fledgling Rule Brittania, the host org for this leg of the competition. Owner Maximus Decimus is confident that the reknown of the fighters on the card should guarantee a capacity crowd but is taking no chances. “We are heavily advertising this event and plan to have two other stellar fights to further bolster this fantastic card on October 22nd. I am beyond excited for this event and honored that ACME chose one of its smaller partners to host these talented fighters in this worldwide event.”

Johnny McBraddish (17-2) comes in as the top seed in London and the most accomplished fighter on the card. After starting his career in St Petersburg, McBraddish made the move to London where he tore through the ranks of the LFC and has made six title defenses. With LFC’s blessing he travelled to Las Vegas where he made the finals of another bantamweight tourney only to lose a war to Trinity Hill. Representing Premier MMA and the reigning LFC bantamweight champ, McBraddish has his eyes on the big prize, top ranked bantamweight in the world with money being a secondary concern and as a top seed will face the number 16 seed the untested Roger Parker. Parker, based out of Las Vegas will be fighting for the pride of the Fighters Pit Alliance … a gym rat he is hoping to catch the top seed in complacency … when the bell rings we know it’s anyone’s fight to win but this looks like a potential slaughter.

McBradish vs Parker

Number two seed Bimbo Lice (8-0) trains in Las Vegas, fights in Tokyo (as the champion of Konflikt:Rising Sun) and after three title defenses will look to barrel through the competition in the ACME bantamweight tourney. Lice uses a spectacular wrestling game to keep his fights standing and then punishes his foes with heavy fists – ending six fights with knockouts. Jarek Dobromir, the 15 seed started his career with five wins and has struggled since. A mat specialist, Dobromir (7-6) has proved to have a solid chin but has struggled mightily when he has been unable to take opponents to the mat. Fighting the majority of his career in the ultra deep MKFC bantamweight division in St Pete – Dobromir likes his chances here though most oddsmakers will undoubtedly give him little chance to survive much less win.

Lice vs Dobromir

The MKFC champion Darnell Klutie (15-6) is the top ranked bantamweight in St Petersburg and comes to London as the number three seed. Klutie has made a career of unlikely come from behind victories. All heart, Klutie recently took a twenty two minute beating only to catch his opponent in a submission to come away as the champion for the second time in his home org. A submission specialist Klutie has a solid ground game but perhaps faces the toughest challenge of the top seeds when he squares of with Pink Floyd (10-5). Floyd, has fought in London, Rio and Helinski and is always a game opponent. Having lost his last bout hurt his seeding in the tourney but against Klutie he may very well be the favorite. Representing Boondock Fight team and Bare Knuckle Combat, Floyd is a polished fighter with few holes in his game – his losses seem to have come from a lack of aggression from his side which he surely won’t exhibit in this tourney. Exciting pairing which may result in the most competitive fight of the night.

Klutie vs Floyd

Alex Vargas (7-1) has won five fights in a row, including three championship bouts for Stoners Fight League in Amsterdam. A submission specialist with a fantastic standup game – to date he has forced his opponents into errors and then made them pay for their indiscretion. “The Phenom” a product of Team Undisputed MMA will look to advance against a veteran foe Felix Gaeta (9-7). Gaeta who most recently fought for Convicted in Los Angeles will be representing ACME Team North America and will be fighting for the first time outside of the United States. Gaeta’s team strongly believes that the level of experience faced by their fighter throughout his career far surpasses that of Vargas, and that Gaeta will find a way to win. Vargas may be his junior by four years and may have less cage experience but there can be no denying his success – expect a war!

Vargas vs Gaeta

Saint Petersburg is the home to many fantastic bantamweight fighters, Sergei Kourdukov (8-1-1) is not only a champion of RMFC and the number two ranked bantam in Russia, he is also a beast. After six consecutive victories, he fought a 25 minute was to a draw in his last bout – discouraging to the champion and his fans and will be looking to punish his opponent in this tourney as retribution. Representing both his home org and GrabtheInfo alliance, Kourdukov utilizes wrestling to control and has won the majority (7) of his fights by decision. His opponent, Slim Goodbody (7-6) has never finished a fight, with his seven wins also coming via decision. Goodbody, a Rio based fighter for the powerhouse AFC has fought hugely talented fighters and seems to wallow in mediocrity despite his gifted abilities. Afer two consecutive wins, he hopes to represent team ACME St Petersburg well by knocking off the higher seeded St Petersburg based fighter. Unfortunately this fight could be a snoozer if both men opt to fight a wrestling based battle as they both seem to do every time out.

Kourdakav vs Goodbody

Undefeated Satqiel Ayperos (5-0) fights for Konflikt Los Angeles and has proven to be a tough fighter in his short career. A finisher with four KO’s to date, Ayperos is extremely skilled for a young fighter and will look to finish his bouts fast and with brutal power. Oscar Diaz (10-8) has a ton of fights against tough competition, also making his home in Los Angeles, Diaz has fought for Convicted, NEA, and WCC. Represting ACME: St Petersburg, Diaz’s main strength is in his striking ability and he will most likely look to keep at range when fighting Ayperos. Interesting match up with a rising young star and an aging stalwart.

Ayperos vs Diaz

Ben Farro (8-5) has had some issues of late living up to the hype that was built around him by his home org, MKFC in St Petersburg. As one of the few black belts in the organization each fight for Farro was hyped as a showcase for jiu jitsu – unfortunately a (2-3) run since joining the org has not done much to bolster his popularity and the proud fighter has decided to join this tourney and bring the title of world’s best back with him to St Petersburg for his own glory and the glory of team FinnFighters. Maxwell Smart (8-3-1) fights for rival org RMFC in St Petersburg, and like Farro is ranked among Russia’s top ten bantamweights. A hard fought draw in his last bout against champion Kourdukov once again proved he has the toughness and mettle to be a champion but first he will look for glory in the ACME tourney. Representing Team Iron league Champions Smart will be the underdog but when he analyzes Farro’s past and sees how three underdogs have found ways to defeat him his confidence should remain high.

Farro vs Smart

The number 8 seed in the London bracket Paha Aasi (8-2) had won five straight bout before losing his last fight which crushed his seeding entering into the tourney but may have in fact extended his possibilities of advancing to the finals. Fighting for WFC in Montreal, and representing Fight Club Finland, Aasi is a powerful striker with knockout ability and though his chin has twice failed him, has proven to be able to take some huge punches in his career thus far. No stranger to taking big punches, Iva ORourke, the “Irish Russian” has fought his entire career in the MKFC in St Petersburg. With a record of 8-3 the Hawaiian Warrior Team fighter has won four straight mostly through utilizing a vice like muy thai clinch. ORourke has a huge fan base in St Pete that should kick off the event in raucous fashion as he enters the cage …

nice preview. floyd is excited to show his true potential.

I'm not gonna lie, Floyd is a really tough round one competition. But if I had a nickel for every time Klutie was "supposed to lose" and didn't, well ... um, I guess I'd have a quarter.

Good luck.

When Rule Britannia’s owner was locked up on Monday night for money laundering the question was raised if the event scheduled for this Friday night, the London first round bracket of the ACME tournament would take place. With no advertising and a no frills production, the local MMA community came together and produced the event themselves. With nary a cent spent on advertising over 1600 fight fans came to the cavernous Camden Center (6000 seats) … a testament to the London fight fans who came despite not knowing if the event would even proceed.

The event was completely no frills. The cage was borrowed from a local gym just 6 hours before the event. The only thing the volunteers did not have to worry about was the venue and the fighters purses as both had been paid and allotted in advance by Team ACME in St Petersburg. As RBFC’s owner was incapacitated, trainers from local gyms served as referees and the judges appointed by the London Gaming Commission came and sat cage side and fulfilled their duties. To the credit of the amateurs who put on the event – the officiating was well done, and the crowd, despite the poor production quality were supportive of the best quality bantamweights to grace the United Kingdom in years.

As no RBFC fighters attended the event nor participated on the card – only the 16 combatants in the tournament met in the cage – and with one huge upset, and several underdogs pulling off victories we have a very interesting round two which will take place in Montreal in November. MKFC owner Paul Dengel commented, “It is shameful that Maximus would let down the fighters and fans with this travesty of a promotion – or should I say lack of promotion. This was a shocking array of talent on display tonight and his failings have caused embarrassment to the entire ACME family. The fighters tonight put on a terrific show and I am sorry the attendance was not what it should have been. I am very pleased in the showing of the St Pete based fighters, not only did three MKFC fighters advance but so did two very strong Russian fighters that fight for an opposing org. It is a great day for Russia.”

Many people expected top seed Johnny McBraddish (now 18-2) to make short work of the young and untested number 16 seed the untested Roger Parker. Parker, based out of Las Vegas was fighting for the pride of the Fighters Pit Alliance, and despite losing the decision did himself and his team proud. Inside of a minute, Parker had McBraddish bloodied from an elbow in the clinch and while the outcome of the fight was never in question, Parker showed toughness in pushing McBraddish the full fifteen minutes. Parker took huge shots and survived, this kid will be a beast someday – just wasn’t his time yet. McBraddish advances via unanimous decision.

Number two seed Bimbo Lice (8-1) was upset by fifteen seed Jarek Dobromir (8-6). Perhaps the exertion of traveling to Las Vegas to train and then fighting in Tokyo had taken a toll on the Konflikt: Rising Sun champion. Dobromir who in recent fights with the MKFC in St Petersburg had struggled mightily to take fights to the mat was able to take Lice down in the first where he tried to pound out and submit his foe to no avail. Lice looked off, certainly not like the dominant fighter who had never tasted defeat in his career. Dobromir, never one to be intimidated, again went to the mat but after an ill directed elbow found himself reversed with Lice on top. Dobrmoir then, knowing Lice would stand , used all his effort to throw up a triangle which Lice deftly avoided only to be trapped In an armbar which forced a furious tap. Huge upset as Dobromir advances.

MKFC champion Darnell Klutie (16-6) utilized kicks as his main weapon of choice in a workman like decision victory over veteran London fighter Pink Floyd (10-6). Klutie, the number three seed, was expected to take the fight to the mat and look for submissions instead, save for one submission attempt, Klutie was content to work to better position and wait for the referrer to stand the men back up. Floyd fought hard and aggressively but with Klutie using kicks at all angels, was able to keep the Boondock Fight team and Bare Knuckle Combat fighter at distance for a good part of the fight. A consummate professional – Floyd raised Klutie’s hand even before the referee and ring side judges had made the call. Klutie advances to Montreal.

Alex Vargas (8-1) won his sixth fight in a row after a first round knockout of Felix Gaeta (9-8). The Stoners Fight League champion wasted no time mixing it up – throwing bombs from the opening bell. Gaeta, despite being rocked with the opening salvo, pressed forward the duration and while he attempted to throw, his speed and accuracy did not match his opponents. Vargas back peddled and countered, landing the majority of his shots before a big left stunned Gaeta and Vargas responded with a flurry that brought the miniscule crowd to its feet. With Gaeta slumped to the mat, Vargas raised his fists in victory. “The Phenom” advances to Montreal in dramatic fashion!

A battle of two wrestlers – one fight that promised to put the fans to sleep, unfortunately delivered on that promise. Sergei Kourdukov (9-1-1) used takedowns, a smattering of ground and pound, and controlling wrestling to outpoint his opponent Slim Goodbody (7-7). Goodbody could not keep the fight standing and once on the mat utilized his own superior wrestling to avoid being put in trouble, but his lack of aggression, and Kourdukov’s constant dominant positioning made the Russian based fighter the clear victor. Kourdukov by blanket – will next fight in Montreal.

Undefeated Satqiel Ayperos (6-0) continued his win streak with a dominant decision victory over Oscar Diaz (10-9). The Konflikt Los Angeles fighter used kicks from all angles, and was particularly dangerous in the clinch, as Diaz had no answer for the relentless attack. Diaz a big puncher could not stay in range of Ayperos as each step forward was met with a kick. The black belt, forced to stay at distance and hope for an opening, never really found one with the sole trip to the mat only seeing one submission attempted as Ayperos proved adept at defense. Great display for Ayperos who will have team Cold Blooded Killers firmly behind him in Montreal.

Ben Farro (8-6) again ran into a wall, the black belt was submitted and knocked out of the tourney by Maxwell Smart (9-3-1) The FinnFighter who came in looking to bring glory back to St Pete and the MKFC instead found himself on the losing end of a third round armbar. Disappointing as Farro was ahead on the cards before the purple belt, Smart, forced the tap. One of the better fights on the card, both men really went for it on the mat with a phenomenal display of wrestling and jiu jitsu. Smart will now pursue the mantle of St Pete and the worlds best bantamweight as he moves onto round two.

The number 8 seed Paha Aasi (8-3) desperately wanted a fight that would take place on the mat, Ivan O’Rourke (9-3) did not cooperate. Aasi wisely spent a large portion of the fight in the clinch, working for takedowns. From range, O’Rourke scored headkicks that hurt and cut his opponent and that would nullify one tool. After being knocked down to start the second, Aasi battled for the takedown. ORourke however came with a tool chest. In the clinch he peppered the head and body with punches and stuffed several takedowns before landing on the mat. Forcing a referee standup, O’Rourke landed a headkick that bloodied the brown belt and then finished him with a series of punches with 24 seconds left in the second stanza. The “Irish Russian” moves on to Montreal and will have a huge Hawaiian contingent to support the Hawaiian Warrior Team fighter in the round two.

Award honors will be announced shortly … the sponsors for the awards are:

Международная Клетка, Борясь с Чемпионатами (MKFC) will give $1000 for Sub of the Night.

Hells Balls Recovery will give $1000 to the KO of the night Award winner.

Academy of Violence [ACME] in Sydney will give $1000 for FOTN.
