Event Preview: Feral Combat 3- fireworks

http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b580/feral_combat/Feralcombat3_zps95d6d546.jpg

This November 5th Feral Combat retrurns to the London Underground for a monday night special event for Guy Fawkes night- Feral Combat 3: Fireworks

Topping the card is lightheavyweight action between two veterans of the bloodsport promotion- Will Dickinson vs Henderson Cormier. A Las Vegas native now training in the UK with the SWF team, Cormier (1-1 MMA, 0-0 FC) is a highly decorated wrestler making his Feral Combat debut, while the undefeated Dickinson (7-0 MMA, 1-0 FC) makes his second appearance in the promotion after making his promotional debut at FC1 in october taking just 36 seconds to work Jack Fist into a triangle choke earning both a submision of the night award and the 3rd first round submission of his career. Cormier is himself no stranger to fast finishes- in his debut he took just 93 seconds to brutally ground & pound his way to an upset victory again Agelo Abdi.

Both men are traditionally ground specialists, Dickinson a quater-finalist in the 2011BJJ European championships purple belt class who trains in lancashire catch wrestling whilst Cormier is a highly decorated Greco-Roman wrestling specialist who is himself a BJJ purple belt under SWF head grappling coach Waldo Delon. Often when two grapplers go to into the cage the result is a stand up war, with each showing too much respect to the others credentials to go to the canvas. But Burton Palmer- BJJ coach at Darko's Elite, where Dickinson has moved his training for this camp- say this wont be the case "Will has supreme confidence in his grappling, in training he chokes out heavyweights, he rolls with black belts, he isnt scared to go to the ground with anyone and dosnt belive theres a single fighter in his division can submit him, he probably has the advantage on the feet here, but to him.. I dont know he has no interest in the decision, no interest in the KO, to him its all about making the other guy tap". Which ever way this goes wether it stand up brawl or technical ground battle both these fighters bring it- so expect fireworks on bonfire night!!

In the Co-Main Event: Dan Smith (4-2 MMA, 1-0 FC) welcomes Matt Gentry to the Feral Combat Lightweight division. Smith is an arm bar specialist who made his name fighting in ILV in Las Vegas where he earned 3 straight wins and a submission of the night bonus all by way of arm bar before returning home to the UK. In his promotional debut at FC1 he earned his first TKO victory then during this trainning camp earned his BJJ brown belt- so wether he looks to continue showcaseing his striking, return to expanding his collection of claimed arms or unviel a new string to his bow remains a mystery. Undefeated Gentry was, before relocating to the UK, widley expected to compete on the Canadian Olympic wrestling team at London 2012. Now training with Top Team London Gentry seeks to make his name in MMA, starting with a decision win over fellow FC new signing Francis Drake (who fights on the undercard), Smith is just the next man stood in his way of making that name.

Our featured bout in the heavyweight division sees Gunnar Sigbjornsson (1-0 MMA, 1-0 FC) take on promotional newcomer Cip Huff (1-0 MMA, 0-0 FC). Whilst both fighters are still at the start of their careers theyve looked impressive in their debut outings and are certainly two to keep on eye on as the landscape of the heavyweight division unfolds. Gunnar is an Icelandic grappler who also posses heavy hands and sharp elbows- which led to a horrific fight ending cut to the face of JORG veteren Frank Castle when the two met at Feral Combat 1. Whilst it was ultimatly the doctor that waved off the bout Gunnar had wasted no time in overcomming a disadvantage in both experience and size to take down and mount an overwhelmed Castle. Romanian Huff is a Muay Thai specialist who is also no stranger to blood- his debut against Remy Bonny was a 6 minute kick boxing demonstration in which Huff broke his opponent's will with a barage of knees and elbows in the clinch- with blood being drawn within the first minute and the doctor calling time 5 minutes later.

With the past form of these two expect a bloodbath in the ring where even the winner may well look like theyre still wearing their halloween costume.

Also on the card:

Middleweight bout: Donald Drake (1-0 MMA, 0-0 FC) vs Philip Farmery (1-1 MMA, 0-0 FC)

Lightheavyweight bout: Jack Bing (0-2 MMA, 0-1 FC) vs Chandler Cannon (1-0 MMA, 0-0 FC)

Heavyweight bout: Ivan Vanko (0-1 MMA, 0-1 FC) vs Frank Castle (4-3 MMA, 0-1 FC)

Lightweight bout: Francis Drake (1-4 MMA, 0-0 FC) vs Neil Bonham (0-1 MMA, 0-0 FC)

Lightweight bout: Damn Hardy (3-7 MMA, 0-2 FC) vs Huw Allen (0-4 MMA, 0-2 FC)

Midleweight bout: Edmund Dorrance (0-1 MMA, 0-1 FC) vs Michal Materla (0-0)

Feral Combat GP's: the road to the top.

Lightweight and Lightheavyweight have been feral combats deepest two divisions since its opening in early October and as such will be the first to gain champions- with many contenders ready to stake a claim to these belts their claims are being decided by an eight man single elimination GP in each class. The first round of this took place at Feral Combat 4, in the lighter weight class Dan Smith (6-2 MMA, 3-0 FC) submitted Alan Oro (4-1 MMA, 0-1 FC) by first round arm bar, Ben Jackson (2-1 MMA, 2-1FC) scored an upset victory over Dok Mookjai (1-1 MMA, 1-1 FC) with a second round kimura, while Matt Gentry (2-1 MMA, 1-1 FC) and Francis Drake (3-4MMA, 2-0 FC) scored unanimous decision victories over Neil Bonham (0-3 MMA, 0-2 FC) and Mateusz Dinozaur (1-2 MMA, 1-1FC) respectively.

In the heavier weightclass Will Dickinson (9-0 MMA, 3-0 FC) earned his second submission of the night award with a first round armbar over Chandler Cannon (1-2 MMA, 0-2 FC). KO of the night went to Jake Dixon (6-0 MMA, 2-0 FC) extending his unbeaten run with a rare third round finish of Jack Fist (4-5 MMA, 0-3 FC). Lee Christmas (2-2 MMA, 2-1 FC) scored a first round TKO over previously unbeaten prospect Gary Dove (5-1 MMA, 1-1 FC), while promotional newcomer Mariusz Oliwa took just 17 seconds to turn an ill judged takedown attempt by Rick McBane (0-2 MMA, 0-1 FC) into a guillotine choke to secure his passage to the semi finals.

For the majority of the winners the next step towards gold came at Feral Combat 5: Path to Glory on December the 8th- at lightweight Smith took on Gentry and Drake faced Jackson. At LHW Lee Christmas initially earned a place in the semis but due to a contract dispute with another promotion withdrew from the contest- his replacement, promotional newcommer Gniewomir "Grom" Gromowladny (1-1 MMA) instead squared off against Will Dickinson. The second light heavyweight semi final, due to injury, took place 4 days later at Bar Brawl 2 between Oliwa and Dixon.

FC5 turned out to be a night of submissions- with 6 of the 9 bouts ended by tapout, including all 3 semi final bouts. The fastest came in just two and a half minutes as Smith took Gentry down almost immediately, passed from guard to mount and as Gentry rolled away from the ground & pound Smith took the back and secured the tap by rear naked choke- the 5th submission win of his career. After a back and forth round brown belt Dickinson proved too much for late replacement 'Grom' as he pulled guard and slapped on a triangle- echoing his win over Jack Fist in his Feral Combat début- just in time at 4.59 of the first round. Ben Jackson also secured his place in the finals by triangle- this time 1.23 into the second round after a fight of the night performance against Francis Drake.

While FC5 was a night for grapplers Bar Brawl 2, the following Wednesday was a night of knockouts- the final 7 bouts of the night we're ended by strikes. Oliwa and Dixon each entered the cage putting unbeaten records on the line, and it took less than a round to set the two apart- after Oliwa spending the majority of the stanza on top mixing both ground & pound and submission attempts to suppress Dixon the ref stepped in after a series of unanswered shots with just 3 seconds left on the clock.

Both finals take place at Feral Combt: Night of Champions, which takes place on the 22nd December at Hayashis lounge, London- Making it Feral Combat's biggest event to date. Dickinson (9-0 MMA, 4-0 FC) squares off against Oliwa (0-2 MMA, 0-2 FC) at 205- Oliwa has finished all his opponents in the first round while Dickinson is a brown belt with 6 submissions to his name.

In the Lightweight division Smith (7-2 MMA, 4-0 FC) puts his streak on the line against Jackson (3-1 MMA, 3-1 FC), in what could be an epic ground battle- like their 205lb counterparts both men are BJJ brown belts, all of Jacksons wins have come by submission, while Smith has seemingly returned to his submission grappling roots after an interlude of TKO victories at FC1 and FC3, extending his record to 5 submission finishes including 4 arm bars.

All four finalists we're in London today for a press conference ahead of the finals held at Wild Bobs, amongst the usual bravado of predictions from fighters, plugs for sponsors and hype from the promotions spokes people there was one thing of note- the unveiling of the new belts. A beautiful design, hand made, consisting of both gold and silver metalwork mounted on a purple leather strap (pictured below). Both tournament finalists will compete for a belt in their own weight class, and they will be joined as champions by either Gunnar Sigbjornsson (2-1 (1NC) MMA, 2-1 (1NC) FC) or Frederick Barbarossa (11-4 MMA, 4-1 FC) as 'the rook' and 'the polar bear' clash for the heavyweight crown. The display case unveiled at the press conference also contained a 4th and 5th belt- widely believed to be reserved for the future kings of the middleweight and open-weight divisions- whilst Feral Combat head of marketing Anna-Marie Raven, who was hosting the press conference, refused to be pinned down on any details or dates or speculate about which fighters may compete for the vacant straps it was strongly hinted that in addition to expecting to seeing all three champions crowned at NoC make their first defence in January 2013 we may also see at least one more champion crowned in the near future.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday 22nd 2012 is a night that will go down in history for Feral Combat, in addition to surviving the mayan apocalypse the promotion crowned its first three champions- and also had the most eventful press conference to date.

Immediately after the bouts representatives of the MMA media piled into a side room at Hayashi's, London in anticipation of talking to 3 new champions- Gunnar Sigbjornsson (HW 3-1 MMA, 3-1 FC), Mariusz Oliwa (LHW 3-0 MMA, 3-0 FC) and Ben Jackson (LW 4-1 MMA, 4-1 FC)- and also under the promise that the promotion would reveal the first title defences for these champions, expected to be the headline bouts of the promotions next 3 numbered events.

The conference started, hosted by Feral Combat head of marketing Anna-Marie Raven invited to the stage each of the 3 new champions to her left, their opponents Will Dickinson (10-1 MMA, 4-1 FC), Dan Smith (7-3 MMA, 4-1 FC) and Frederick Barbarossa (11-5 MMA, 4-2 FC) to her right, the end spot of each row taken by KO of the night winner, Amsterdam based Russian heavyweight Lubomir "Kolos" Aleksandrowicz (2-0 MMA, 2-0 FC) and submission of the night winner Nanaki Yotomishi (3-4 MMA, 1-2 FC).

After the fighters had made themselves comfortable Miss Raven oppened with some housekeeping- confirming the event as a sell out and as such the events biggest event to date- doubling the previous best attendance of 1,000 held by Feral Combat 3. She then went on to confirm the of the night awards, set t $2,500 each, for Aleksandrowicz and Yotomishi as well as announcing that fight of the night had been awarded to the heavyweight title fight- an epic 4 and a half round war. She then went on to open the floor up to the excited journalists.

The first question came from the tycoon times, addressed to the heavyweights asking if, with their series against each other now totalling almost 40 minutes of in cage action that had earned each man a win a piece and a fight of the night bonus on both occasions whether there would be a rubber match soon. Barbarossa stepped in first “Gunnar, he is very good, I congratulating him, one day Im sure we will fight again, but until then I'll take whoever they put infront of me, show I am the top. Im disappointed to have spent so long on the matt, I will work on it, maybe next time I can knock him out. But tonight is Gunnars night, I wont take that away from him..we'll see, we will see”.

The next question came from grappling weekly- addressing Yotomishi asking whether he was surprised to have the only submission finish on a card which featured 5 BJJ brown belts and where he thought his win (a first round Guillotine choke win over highly touted American Tony Stewart (5-3 MMA, 0-1 FC)) put him in the division. Yotomishi, a purple belt under Rift Fighting Academy's head grappling coach Antoine Mercer, quickly apologised for his english and continued in his native Japanese – Miss Raven began translating the answer “Nanaki is very happy with his win.. he knew his opponent was a strong wrestler and would want to spend the fight ontop of him, but with his BJJ he did not mind being on his back, it was just waiting for the mistake then squeeze, squeeze very hard” After a brief pause while the laughter from the media died down she continued “It is good to have my first win for Feral Combat and...”

Lightweight Champion Ben Jackson cut her off mid sentence with a string of profanity, his first few attempts at a sentence were neither coherent or printable in family friendly publications, he stood up and shouted at Miss Raven that she was putting words in the fighters mouth, that the management was manipulating the fighters- a continuation of his post fight rant alleging that his opponent Smith had an easy road to the final based on favouritism. Jackson ignored Ravens requests to return to his seat and let Mr Yotomishi finish, his torrent of abuse still audible even after the sound team cut his mic, Jackson and Smith squared off at the central podium briefly before Smiths team mate Dickinson picked Smith up over one shoulder and carried him out the room. Yotomishi too looked angry at the incident and too rose from his seat, he was joined in short order by RFA training partners Theon Greyjoy (still visibly wobbly from a KO loss to Pedro Da Silva on tonight's undercard) and Christian Soendergaard (who makes his FC début at bar brawl 3 in January). Faced with the two middleweights Jackson left via a side door under some very heavy encouragement from his corner men.

Several minutes of confusion passed before Miss Raven retook the podium, visibly flustered and upset by the incident, apologising for having to cut short the press conference saying that the expected fight announcements will instead come in press releases over the coming days.

This journalist for one looks forward to those announcements, and wonders what other fallout from this situation may come out.

Ben Ulrich – tycoon times.

Also on the card is a duel between middleweight knockout artists- Boxer Eric Slowhand (3-3 MMA, 2-1 FC) takes on 'the suprise package' Koops Aquino (1-0 MMA/FC) whos technical kickboxing proved too much for Donald Drake in his debut at Bar Brawl 1.

Bar Brawl 3: The new years hangover takes place at Wild Bobs, London on the 2nd of January.

With the tournaments concluded Feral Combat returns to its saturday night numbered events, after a gap of nearly a month, with Feral Combat 6 which takes place at the London Underground Saturday January 5th. It will be straight down to business in what looks to be a big year for feral combat, with the new year just 5 days old this will be the promotions second event of the year, after Bar Brawl 3; new year hangover, and this time the focus is on the top flight light heavyweights.

The card is headlined by two hard hitting 205ers each making their promotional debut: Knock out artist Edgar Hoover (10-2 MMA) joins Feral Combat with 9 knockouts to his name following the first losses of his career he looks to get back to the form that saw him put together a 10-0 start to his career including 5 title defenses in the fatality MMA org- the man who stands in his way, and also looking for his first FC win is Serbian wrestler Bojan Bajic (4-3-1 MMA). With both men looking to get back into the win column this could be a classic match up.

Also in the 205lb division Sweedish grappler Walter White (4-3 MMA, 1-1 FC) looks to return to the submissions that brought him to the promotions attention after his first 2 fights in the promotion both went the distance- the judges siding with him once and against him the other. Austrailian striker Eildon Heap (6-3 MMA, 1-0 FC) may only be a white belt, but the “big train” dosnt generally let the fight go on long enough for that to matter, with all his career wins to date being by way of knockout including a KO of the night bonus for a brutal knee KO of Marcin Najman in his promotional debut at Bar Brawl 2.

With the middleweight division still without a champion two men looking to throw their hats into the ring are two of Amsterdams top middleweights Jon Bash (14-13-1 MMA) and Boxing Dummie (6-8 MMA, 0-1 FC) who was stopped in the first round in his first Feral Combat fight by rising middleweight Ben Dover (3-0 MMA/FC) at Bar Brawl 1 but since got back in the win column on the Amsterdam circuit scoring a KO of his own in under a minute. Both men are experienced boxers; with a dozen KO victories between them- so it looks likely somebody is getting their lights turned out when these two go at it.

The smaller men are also represented on the main card as Damn Hardy (5-7 MMA, 2-2 FC) takes on Jean Louis Andre (2-1 MMA, 1-0 FC) in a bout contested at 155lbs. Hardy who had a rocky start in the promotion with losses to Dan Smith and Dok Mookjai at Feral Combat 1 and 2 has had a resurgence in recent months- submitting Huw Alen at Feral Combat 3 before a dominant decision shut out of newcomer Dave Lister at Feral Combat 5, and now looks for the first 3 fight win streak of his career. French man Andre made his debut both for the promotion and at the weight class, after going 1-1 as a featherweight, at Bar Brawl 2 where he looked good without having to cut weight, bringing an aggressive work rate the man normally regarded as as grappler was able to overcome Helsinki's Eugene Hall with his striking. Both men have wins by both KO and submission and represent the new breed of rounded mixed martial artists- this fight could go anywhere and could go either way.

The Alien Invasion- the spread of Feral Combat.

In late December of last year few paid much heed to a press release from a small promotion, with just 7 events on the London scene, claiming it was about to 'go out and conquer a continent'- indeed the statement was at the time largely buried under the more pressing issues of carrying out tournaments in the 155lb and 205lb divisions, crowning its inaugural champions and holding, what was at the time, the fledgling promotions biggest event to date- Night of Champions. Behind the scenes however Feral Combat's president Mark Hibbert has been committed to his vision of a fight org transcending the regional model to become 'a notable force in European MMA'. In the 4 months since the promotion has held 6 international events and grown to the point where the 2,000 ticket sales of Night of Champions would now be considered at the smaller end of the spectrum. Tycoon Time's Ben Ulrich travelled with Hibbert to St Petersberg to talk developing new markets, world domination and the future.

So how does one go about trying to conquer Europe? “Slowly” Joked Hibbert, “We started off with one show booked in Amsterdam to test the waters in January, and it rocked- theyve got a great local scene out there, great Muay Thai/kickboxing heritage, some really good camps..a lot of our top fighters train there, they're no shortage of local talent- but the gamble was how would the mix of London fighters go down. Iv got to tell you I was amazed- we go out there with guys like Ben Dover, he's a beast and he's been with us since day one (ed: to be pedantic he made his debut at FC2), but the kids 3-0 at the time, like 2,000 people had ever seen him fight, if that and they all live in London, Im thinking no one knows who he is, what if the kid gets booed? You know?. So we get out there and it turns out there were all these hardcore fans who's been following things on the internet, and knew who all our guys we're and got behind them. It really was a great night, totally different atmosphere to anything we'd done before. In fact we we're so excited that we booked Helsinki from while we were flying home”

From there Feral Combat had its second Alien Invasion in Helsinki in late February, which crowned a Helsinki based heavyweight champion in Gary Goodridge. Shortly there after Amsterdam become a monthly show, with Alien Invasion 3 and 5 having happened there, AI7 scheduled for May and talk of AI9 being the promotions first outdoor show in June as the weather improves. Helsinki also earned a second card in AI4 in late march. Whilst criss crossing Europe the promotion has also grown- its shows have moved from 1,000 to 2,000 to 3,000 capacity shows.

This weeks card, Alien Invasion 6 was the organisations first attempt at the Russian market, its 27th event in all, and was aimed conservatively at the 2,000 capacity Hayashi's Lounge, on the way home we asked Hibbert how he thought the card went and what he thought of the Russian scene; “Tonight did well, every seat had a Russian man sat on it drinking vodka and shouting profanity- those guys really get into it. The fighters gave them something to shout for- some really great fights and 7 finishes, its what Iv come to expect from these kids. I'm still kicking myself over the whole visa thing with Yianni, that fight would've been the cherry on the cake, but these things happen” The fight in question was a planned heavyweight clash between Yianni Theodosis and former HW champion Gunnar Sigbjornsson who was scheduled to return from a long rehabilitation after a motorbike accident thats kept him away from the cage since January's Feral Combat 7. Visa issues resulted in Theodosis being detained at Helsinki airport and missing the bout, but Hibbert added that when we landed in the UK and he got back to the office rescheduling the bout for as soon as possible would be amongst his top priorities.

It certainly seems he's considering Alien Invasion 6 a success, so much in fact that the promotion announced its second trip to Russia at the post fight press conference- Alien Invasion 8 will take place in the larger Hard Knocks, 4 weeks from now. Hibbert added “Russia is a great resource of fighters the west is only just starting to pay attention to, these guys have been embracing Judo for years, they train Sambo their whole lives, they've got this great heritage of folk wrestling- I really want to get more Russians on our roster- and some beautiful venues, Id love to come back and fill the Sambo hall some day”

So whats next? “I feel we've neglected Helsinki a bit lately, well Sune (ed- Finnish HW contender Sune Mangs) tells me Im neglecting Helsinki” laughs Hibbert “We need to get back there, that's certainly on the cards. Obviously we're really establishing ourselves on the Amsterdam scene, so we're in talks for some BIG shows out there. We're not neglecting the fans back home in the UK either, we've got something pretty special planned for Feral Combat 20, we'll be dropping teasers for that over the coming weeks and months... Theres a lot going on, we just need to sort out contracts and stuff.. seriously you wouldn't believe the pile of paperwork waiting on my desk when we get back.. and thats before we even start thinking about trying to get broadcast contracts”

So now Feral Combat runs shows in 4 countries, with a combined audience rapidly closing in on 50,000 theres one last question that needed asking just before we landed- which fans did Hibbert think was best? “There can only be one answer to that. We've fought for the English fans, the Dutch fans, the Scandinavian fans, the Russian fans.. and you know what keeps me going, what makes me love my job? I love the MMA fans!!” Nicely avoided sir, well done. And with that we touched down back in the UK, our weekend was up and all that was left to do was wish Hibbert luck and I for one will be waiting with baited breath to see what comes next from Feral Combat.

Writing to you on behalf of Feral Combat is Ernie White, and I am very excited to be previewing an amazing card for you, as Alien Invasion 8 is this Saturday. It’s a double header, with both the middleweight and heavyweight titles on the line. That being said, let’s take a closer look into the action.

The main card kicks off with a heavyweight tilt, as recent title challenger Sune Mangs (5-5 MMA, 2-3 FC) re-matches longtime veteran Fred Burton (26-31-1 MMA, 2-4 FC). The two men put on an entertaining fight for the fans when they first fought for Feral Combat, and it was Burton who walked away with a second round “Knockout Of The Night” victory. Mangs may have swayed the judges in the first round with his relentless aggression, but it was Burton’s crisp counters that wore his opponent down and earned him the win. I expect for this fight to look like much of the same, but Mangs would be well suited to approach this fight in a completely different manner if he wants to take home the win this time.

Prediction: Burton by (T)KO, round 2.

Middleweights Ultimate Damage (5-5 MMA, 2-0 FC) and Tommy Thompson (5-3 MMA, 4-2 FC) have been putting together momentum in the lower ranks of the division, but one of these men could take a step closer into title contention with a good showing. Fans should be excited about this one, because in 18 combined fights, these men only have two fights that have gone the distance. Both men have a finish or be finished mentality, and that always leads to a great fight. Damage has used his well-rounded skills to win four straight, scoring two submissions, a knockout, and a lopsided decision win. Meanwhile, Thompson is riding high on the heels of two impressive first round KOs. Expect Thompson to look to get his hands on his opponent early while using wrestling in reverse to keep the fight where he is most comfortable. Damage will try to mix up strikes with takedowns in order to use his superior ground game to win the fight.

Prediction: Damage by submission, round 3.

Up next, we have a very pivotal middleweight bout between Craig Shilo (5-1 MMA, 5-0 FC) and Gideon Abieezer (13-6 MMA, 2-2 FC). After losing his professional debut by third round TKO, Shilo signed with Feral Combat. Since then he has been on a tear, with none of his opponents escaping the second round. However, the powerful striker meets his toughest test to date against a BJJ black belt in Abieezer. Spending most of his career at welterweight, Abieezer decided to move up to middleweight when he debuted for Feral Combat. He is now coming off of his first ever knockout victory, but he would be ill advised to try to do the same against Shilo. Although he is a talented boxer in his own right, Shilo is just too good of a striker to stray away from his primary skill set. He must get this to the ground if he wants to win. Shilo has never been taken down, and he’ll want it to stay that way Saturday night. He needs to keep Abieezer at bay with his jab while trying to set up a knockout blow.

Prediction: Shilo by (T)KO, round 2.

Our co-main event is a thriller, as the two best heavyweights in Feral Combat square off for the title. Gary Goodridge (13-4 MMA, 3-1 FC) defends his title for the third time against Zell Griever ((6-0 MMA, 4-0 FC). Goodridge had a reputation as a submission artist when he debuted in Feral Combat, but after dropping a title fight in his first bout, he has been a knockout machine, TKOing his next three opponents, winning the title and successfully defending it twice in the process. However, the best plan of attack in this bout would be to return to his grappling roots, as Griever has a sizeable edge in the striking department. The massive heavyweight has only been out of the first round once, and it did not bode well for his opponent. Griever boasts wrestling chops just as high level as his boxing, but he prefers to use it in reverse so that he can knock people out on the feet. Neither man will likely be blown out of the water in any area of the fight, but Goodridge has a clear edge on the ground, and Griever is the more capable striker. Whoever can implement their will on their opponent will take this fight home.

Prediction: Griever by (T)KO, round 4.

Finally, our main event, and it features the pound for pound best fighter Feral Combat has to offer, knockout artist Thomas Fu (15-4 MMA, 5-0 FC) meets the toughest test of his title reign against undefeated young challenger, Hironobu Uematsu (4-0 MMA, 4-0 FC). This fight could see the rise of a new champion, as Uematsu has looked nothing short of incredible in his young career so far. Knocking out all four of his opponents within the distance, this devastating striker is also an exceptional wrestler and boasts a purple belt in jiu-jitsu. This ground game could be the deciding factor against the champ, who only has a white belt in jiu-jitsu. Although the champ is coming up against a more technical and well-rounded opponent, one thing we know he has is ridiculous power, ending all 15 of his professional victories by way of stoppage due to strikes. Fu incorporates a lot more kicks into his striking attack than his adversary, and that could be his key to winning this fight. If he can manage to chop the legs of Uematsu early, he can take away his power and slow him down.

Prediction: Uematsu via (T)KO, round 3.

Also on the card:

(155 lbs.) Winke Tygesen vs. Hassan Willidirim

(185 lbs.) Renato Gracie vs. Titus Titan

(155 lbs.) Jack Clayton vs. Cory Trevor

(155 lbs.) Timmeh Larson vs. Mark Mayhem

(185 lbs.) Miguel Oliveira vs. Oleksandr Yechev

Alien Invasion 8 was a record setting event for Feral Combat, and the ultra-stacked card delivered. It received a stellar rating of 217.05, the highest in the organization’s history. All 3,000 seats were filled, drawing in a $390,000 gate. The fights were terrific, and we saw two titles change hands. Here to bring you back into the action is yours truly, Ernie White.

The main card opened up with a bang, as heavyweights Sune Mangs and Fred Burton met for the second time. Burton used crisp counter striking to take home “Knockout Of The Night” in their first bout, but that’s not how it went this time. Mangs was much more accurate with his striking, landing big punches early. The end came just outside of the first minute, with Mangs flooring Burton to earn himself “Knockout Of The Night”.

Result: Sune Mangs def. Fred Burton via KO (Punch) at 1:18 of round 1.

Middleweights Ultimate Damage and Tommy Thompson kept the action going, with Damage coming away with the win. A clear edge in the grappling department went to Damage, and it clearly was the focus of his gameplan. However, getting Thompson down wasn’t the easiest task in the world, nor was keeping him down. Thompson managed to defend 13 of 17 takedown attempts, and even landed a sweep of his own at one point, but Damage’s relentless attack eventually broke him down, as he was mounted midway through the second and finished off with punches.

Result: Ultimate Damage def. Tommy Thompson via TKO (Strikes) at 4:37 of round 2.

Craig Shilo had his momentum ground to a halt by Gideon Abieezer’s grappling assault in a pivotal middleweight contest. Shilo was coming off the heels of 5 straight knockouts, but he was unable to get his strikes off against an ADCC champion in Abiezzer. The black belt showed his class over the course of 3 rounds, scoring a takedown and full mount in each round. He was unable to finish, but he was content to maintain the top position and control the fight.

Result: Gideon Abieezer def. Craig Shilo via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

The co-main event saw the heavyweight title go on the line, as champion Gary Goodridge met top contender Ziel Griever. Goodridge knew coming into this fight that he had to get it to the mat, and he did, scoring 8 takedowns over the course of 5 rounds. However, he did not remain active enough from the top position, and the ref stood them up 4 times. Griever was actively looking to improve his position from the bottom, scoring multiple sweeps, and when they were on the feet, he clearly showed his class. Griever outlanded the champ 30-4 on the feet, and he took home every round on the judges’ scorecards, as well as a shiny new belt.

Result: Ziel Griever def. Gary Goodridge via unanimous decision (50-45 x3) and is the new FC heavyweight champion.

The main event featured a middleweight title fight in which neither man was willing to give an inch, leading to the “Fight Of The Night” between reigning champ Thomas Fu and Hironobu Uematsu. Neither fighter was interested in going to the ground, instead engaging in a hotly contested war on the feet. Fu moved forward with a kick centric attack, while Uematsu was more focused on staying at boxing range. The first two rounds were extremely narrow, and it went into the third round potentially one-a-piece. Uematsu instigated a clinch early in the round. They engaged in dirty boxing, with Uematsu getting the better of it. A short punch buckled Fu, but he could not take advantage of it. Fu seemed to recover well, eventually breaking the clinch and going back to striking range. But as the round headed into the final minute, Uematsu cranked his opponent with a vicious head kick, and the ref stopped the fight. Ladies and gentleman, we have a new champion.

Result: Hironobu Uematsu def. Thomas Fu via TKO (Head Kick) at 4:06 of round 3 and is the new FC middleweight champion.

Also on the card:

Winke Tygesen def. Hassan Willidirm via submission (Triangle Choke) at 0:32 of round 1.

Renato Gracie def. Titus Titan via submission (Americana) at 0:55 of round 1.

Cory Trevor def. Jack Clayton via TKO (Strikes) at 2:59 of round 1.

Timmeh Larson def. Mark Mayhem via TKO (Punches) at 0:10 of round 2.

Miguel Oliveira def. Oleksandr Yechev via submission (Armbar) at 0:52 of round 1. *Submission Of The Night

Oliveira, Fu, Uemastsu and Mangs each received $3,000 for of the night bonuses.
