“We have just received official word via mmatycoon.com that the rumoured Ganbatte! Fight promotion has just opened in Tokyo.”

We were invited inside the Funky Promotions HQ for the official press conference hosted by CEO Chris Funkyama.

DREAMINGofPRIDE.com: Chris, firstly can I ask why you decided to open your fight promotion in Japan?

Chris Funkyama: “Hi, welcome and thank you all for coming today on such short notice, help your self to sushi. We got plenty! We decided to open our new fight promotion in Japan as a tribute to what is in my opinion the greatest fight promotion in MMA, and that is DREAM. Some of the best fighters have fought in DREAM and we aim to build Ganbatte! into a promotion that mirrors them.”

DoP.com: “You have a business partner right? I hear you will be running K-1 events also?”

CF: “You have good sources, my partner is Rex Lawson. He has recently returned from a hiatus and approached me about running some K-1 events in Tokyo and London. We discussed this and his ideas matched my vision. Rex will handle all press related to what we are calling Ganbatte! Colussos.

DoP.com: “Can you give us more information on the K-1 side of Ganbatte! ?”

CF: “You will need to speak to Rex, a press release statement will be available soon”

DoP.com: “What type of fighters are you looking to sign Chris and is it true you have invested over $1,000,000 into Ganbatte! ?”

CF: “It is true. $1.2 million to be precise. We are looking for fighters from 145 and upwards. Fighters we will be looking for initially will be of 185k ID however, we won't be focusing entirely on restricting fighters ID's. Fighters interested in signing should have their agents contact myself or Rex”

CF: “Thank you everyone for attending, it has been a pleasure. I hope you have enjoyed our hospitality, our ring girls, and I look forward to meeting you again. Look out for Ganbatte. 1 and Ganbatte. 2 hitting The Micro Arena in a month or so. Good night and God bless”

We have received word on a press conference being held at Lawson Corporation’s Zambidis conference hall in downtown Yokohama by Ganbatte (Japan) partner Rex Lawson.

DREAMINGofPRIDE.com: Thank you for having us here Rex first off I would like to ask why K-1? Why now?

Rex Lawson: “You’re welcome. First off K-1 is an untapped territory, as we all know matches have been taking place in Japan since the early 90’s. The Demand is there. There is only one other prime K-1 org in MMA Tycoon, we are looking at providing another outlet, providing K-1 fighters with longevity in a still very growing and very popular sport.

DoP.com: “I have to ask who is Rex Lawson? I mean you seem to just show up out of nowhere”

RL: I have been in the business since 2009, after a year off due to other obligations I’m back and looking to help Chris Funkyama make Ganbatte one of the primer fight organizations in Japan. I’m looking to bring back that fighting spirit and instill that type of mind frame to the fighters who step forth and fight for Ganbatte.

DoP.com: “What kind of K-1 org can we expect to be seeing from Ganbatte?”

RL: “We will have two divisions. We will have your normal K-1 Divisions and will offer 4 fight contracts and this will be in Tokyo, our fight organizations home base. We will also be hosting a QFC K-1 no-training style tournament called the Andy Hug World Classic which will be for new 25yr olds. This will allow fighters to get in to the action and compete in a K-1 environment for a hefty grand prize. We look to hold this once a month.

DoP.com: “So this will be a new kind of K-1 organization, one that will look to give current k-1 fighters a place to call home?”

RL:Yes, we have heard that there has been a few K-1 orgs that went bust and that there is a flux of K-1 fighters needing a home. Ganbatte Colossus K-1 will give them not only a home but multiple options on competing in K-1.

RL: “Thank you guys I have got to head out, we are planning our first Andy Hug World Classic which will be held in London, thanks guys talk at you later.”
