RECAP

Diry Boxing 2 was a success! With a full crowd and 8 fights ending with a finish, World Combat provides yet again a mma masterclass! Fighters rise and fall, get knocked out or taps. This is what WC is all about! This is the recap for the event! WAR!

Timmy “T Bomb 2” Te O def. William "Excalibur" Figueiredo via Submission (Armbar)

Welterweight Division

An upset was made when Te O defeats Figueiredo! “Excalibur” went to work early on the takedowns and got them. The thing is, Te O was ready to face the ground game! It was a wrestling and grappling seminar as both of these fighters went toe to toe to get the dominant position. William Figueiredo did get top position but a great counter by Timmy Te O gets Figueiredo by the arms. A few positioning moves after that “T Bomb 2” gets a good grip on the arm and submits Figueiredo via armbar near the end of round 1! What a finish!

That win puts Timmy Te O to (2 – 1) and Figueiredo gets his first loss in his record (5 – 1).

"Morceguinho" Julio Cesar Neves Jr. def. Shino Ohio via Submission (Armbar)

Featherweight Division

Wow! Another armbar finish for the second fight of this card! This match started out with a clinching battle as Ohio imposed his Muai Thai on Neves Jr. Ohio was surely mixing it up with punches and kicks but a great change of levels by Neves Jr. caught Ohio and they go to the ground. With the dominant position by Neves Jr. he went to work using his jiu jitsu. A few sub attempts later... Boom! Neves Jr. frees himself and creates enough space to isolate the arm! He extends it, and it's all over!

Julio Cesar Neves Jr. improves his record to (3 – 2) while Shino Ohio falls to (5 – 4).

Pound House def. Conor “King” Brazier via Submission (Triangle Choke)

Featherweight Division

Do you want another submission finish? Well here's the third for you! It was never a matter of who's going to dominate as Pound House never had any resistance from the start. Brazier never looked like a king in this match as he falls down almost everytime House attempts to go to the ground. House was like a pitbull on that match, determined to submit his opponent. After 15 attempts, Pound House gets an opening and holds a triangle choke. Brazier had no choice but to tap. Solid win for Pound House here.

This win here puts House to (3 – 1). Conor Brazier needs to rethink his gameplan as he has a negative (1 – 2) record.

Sum Ting Wong def. Mizzieko “The Ninja” Bestro via TKO (Strikes)

Bantamweight Division

Another finish here but via strikes! Sum Ting Wong can do no wrong in this fight as he punished Bestro in the clinch finishin the fight in uner 60 seconds! The fight started with the clinch and Wong capitalized. He hit a big knee to the head that bobbled Bestro! After that, Wong put up a solid knee again and the ref just had to stop that fight! The horror! The horror!

Wong now add another win and is now on a 5 fight winning streak going (6 – 1) overall. Bestro now has a split record of (1 – 1) in his early career.

Vincet Obi def. OZ Icon via Decision (Unanimous)

Superheavyweight Division

A really great striking battle between the two! Obi and Icon went center in the ring as they tried to outclass one another. But as the rounds progress, Obi showed more dominance as the fight stats indicated more volume of punches and landed. No one really got rocked but you'd really appreciate how much training they've put into becoming really good stand up fighters. In the end, the scorecards were in favor of Vincent Obi, handing him the win.

Vincent Obi now has an outstanding (7 – 1) record. Meanwhile, OZ Icon is now (2 – 2) and is a free agent.

Jet Hemi def. “The Cowboy” Conway Jennings via TKO (Strikes)

Bantamweight Division

It was actually a Jennings fight early on when he went on the offensive on the ground. But Hemi's heavy hands changed the fight completely as he rocked Jennings with a beauty of a punch. It didn't follow into a TKO as Jennings survived that round. Jennings even won the round by virtue of being a more dominant fighter. But that heavy punch by Hemi took a toll on Jennings. He didn't fully recover and that showed when Hemi a released a flurry that knocked Jennings again. We gotta give Jennings credit as he still found a way to recover a bit. But a second knockdown on the second round spelled the end of Jennings luck. Hemi never looked back and after a serious combination of strikes Jennings can no longer continue the onslaught. Hemi wins a decisive vicory. Impressive to say the least!

Hemi showed that brilliance that earned him a win. His record isn't pretty but it improves to (8 – 9) nonetheless. Conway Jennings now falls to a negative (2 – 3) record.

Jackson Ramos def. Yoshi “Twister” Twister via Submission (RNC)

Featherweight Division

A dominating performance by Ramos as Twister never really got it going as he got submitted in the middle of the first round. Ramos attacked with takedown and got it. From there he continued to be assertive on the dominant side as he looked actively for the submission. Ramos then decided to soften Twister first and he did. Yoshi Twister got rocked by eating a solid elbow and ground and pound. A dazed Twister got capitalized by Ramos as he gets taken in the back. A choke was sunk by Ramos and a few pinches on the neck it's all over. Twister taps out.

Jackson Ramos no has two wins in World Combat and totals (8 – 3). He is now also the #3 ranked fighter in the 145-pound division. A disappointed Twister is now (3 – 2) and this is his second loss in a row.

Cocky” Conor Brazier def. Derrick Jon via Decision (Unanimous)

Bantamweight Division

Conor Brazier not only has venomous smack talk but vicious striking as well as he beats Derrick Jon. Brazier was just dominant on the stand up game as he rocked Jon early in the fight. Though, it didn't come to the finish, Brazier went for different angles on his stand up game. It was a clinic on punches and kicks as “Cocky” Conor Brazier changed levels everytime putting Jon on his toes all game long. Jon did throw strikes too, but for the combined 128 strikes he attempted, only a dismal 7 connected! Was it Jon's lack of accuracy or is Brazier just too slippery? Either way, Derrick Jon tried but never made a difference as all the judges favored Brazier unanimously.

Conor Brazier remains undefeated in his mma career with a (4 – 0) tally. Derrick Jon continues his slum here in World Combat as he is handed with his third straight loss here, 4 straight overall. He drops to (9 – 5) in his record.

CO – MAIN EVENT

Hughtavious Mingo def. Jimmie Craig via KO (Punch)

Lightheavyweight Division

Hughtavious Mingo just cemented himself as a prime candidate for a title shot! Impressive win against Craig! We'd expect a fight but in was not to be! The start of the first round did not bode well as Craig suffered an early cut. A few punches later, Mingo lands a heavy right hand in the face of Craig! Jimmy Craig's legs looked soft like butter and Mingo decided to exploit the advantage. Mingo then adds a big shot right into the temple of Craig and the ref decided that was enough punishment for one man to take. Mingo is victorious!

Hughtavious Mingo now becomes the #1 contender for the lightheavyweight crown and moves to (11 – 3). Jimmie Craig falls to #2 and is now (13 – 6).

MAIN EVENT

Angel "The Real Deal" Face def. Saladin "Quick Sand" Hussain via KO (Punch)

Middleweight Division

Angel Face never gave Hussain a chance as he finished the fight in a minute and a half! Face started with some solid strikes and then started a devastating combo that knocked down Hussain! Another cross from face rocked Hussain more and a leaping lead hook sealed the deal knocking Hussain out cold! Short work for Angel Face as he proves he's the real deal!

Angel face continues his monstrous rampage by winning his seventh in a row, all via (T)KOs. He moves to be the #1 contender for the middleweight title sporting a (7 – 0) record. Saladin Husain has a split record of two wins and two losses here in World Combat with a (12 – 7) total in his career.

KO of the Night: Hughtavious Mingo

Sub of the Night: Jackson Ramos

Fight of the Night: Jet Hemi vs. Conway Jennings

WC 23: Welcome to the Big Show

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1432259214Untitled-1.png

PREVIEW

WC 23 is going to be one of the most important cards that World Combat is going to present. We have two titles on the line while new lightweight contenders could rise on Saturday. WC has the chance to break into the top 20 organizations in the world with this event!

There is bad blood with these two fighters as Barney Gumble is set to defend his title against Pedro Lazaro for the heavyweight championship!

Tony Bullard will also try to retain his welterweight title and remain the only fighter in World Combat history to hold two titles as he faces off with Oleg Bartowski.

Three lightweight fighters in Papa Shango, Jack Stick and Better Dead look to augment their spots as 155-pound contenders as they hope to beat Garrick Head, Fernando Diaz and Benny Bishop respectively.

There is so much on the line here in WC 23! We have a full lineup and big matches up ahead! It is only right to give a detailed preview to examine the fights ahead. Are there any sure winners? Or will there be upsets? Let's take a look!

MAIN EVENT

TITLE FIGHT

[C] Barney Gumble (19 – 3) vs. #1 Pedro “Pirate” Lazaro (19 – 3)

Heavyweight Division

The third of one of the most exciting rivalries in mma history, this heavyweight title bout is hard to judge. We have the Island overall winner in Pedro Lazaro who is on a 9 fight winning streak, which includes wins over Magnus Cross, Mase Force and our champion, Barney Gumble. On the other side of the spectrum, this is Barney Gumble is one of the most punishing fighters in mma today. He formerly had a 18-fight (T)KO win streak before succumbing to Mase Force about 2 months ago. This fight is the first and probably the biggest test for his career as title holder. Winning here will prove that he is the undisputed World Combat heavyweight champion.

It is difficult to choose who'll win this matchup as they're virtually the same. Both of these fighters are Muai Thai experts so they'll look to slug it out in the clinch. The first to fights are evidence of this. It's more about, who'll get the big shots first in the clinch to determine the winner.

If we go to statistics, Pedro Lazaro wins by virtue of being more aggressive and accurate in the clinch. He hits about 22 head punches for every 27 that he gives and lands 17 body punches out of 29. That's equivalent to 81% and 58 % respectively. Gumble only hits about 51% of his head punches which is 18 out of 35. He also loses out on the body punches where he lands only 8 out of 16, an even 50%.

What Gumble has is better boxing and heavier hands. With all his 19 wins via (T)KO, he has proven himself to be one of the biggest hitters in mma. A good shot is all it takes to erase the numbers and Gumble indeed has that potential.

I predict Lazaro takes this in a very close matchup. I like what I see on the numbers game for Lazaro and even if Gumbe has better boxing he isn't really putting it into good use. He only attempts 6 punches while boxing and that's not enough to exploit that strength. Gumble might change his gameplan, but I expect him to stick to his bread and butter, the clinch game.

CO – MAIN EVENT

TITLE FIGHT

[C] Tony “The Wrecking Ball” Bullard (18 – 2) vs. #1 Oleg Bartkowski (10 – 3)

Welterweight Division

This looks like a one-sided fight for Bullard but it seems to be his toughest fight yet.

Bartkowski has been champion before and after 3 months of waiting he finally gets another title shot. He's one of the most dominant wrestlers in the division and his high work rate adds to that deadly ground game he has. Bartkowski is also not afraid to fight toe to toe standing up as he racked up a few victories by (T)KO. After his stint in the Island, he's has truly improved a lot and he looks to show the fans of World Combat the versatility he's gained.

Tony Bullard is one of the most dominant athletes in mma. But he's never faced a wrestler with really great striking until Bartkowski. Bullard has a deadly Muai Thai game that he's used to finish his opponents. But overall his skills are put to the test as he faces a taller and bigger Bartkowski. It's going to be a question if Bullard can handle things once it gets to the ground and if the size advantage does matter when they're both in the mat.

It's a win for Bullard in my book albeit a close one. Bullard just needs to stay away from the takedown and be intelligent in the clinch. Well, that's easier said that done as you have one of the best wrestlers in the welterweight division but I think Bullard can handle it.

#1 Papa Shango (13 – 6) vs. #4 Garrick “Off His” Head (5 – 2)

Lightweight Division

If there's an upset that's going to happen, I think its going to be Shango vs. Head.

Papa Shango is a top notch contender and his ranking proves that point but Head outclasses Shango in a lot of areas.

Shango is a great wrestler in the division but looks to one-dimensional. And even on the ground he can still be beaten by great jiu jitsu.

Garrick Head is full of promise. He has great wrestling and grappling plus his standup game can compete with other hard-hitting fighters in lightweight. Head would probably use his advantage standing up since it is Shango's weakness. He'll also try to look into an early finish via (T)KO.

I'll go Garrick Head here via (T)KO. He's looks to skillful when standing up that Shango won't be able to get past it. Head can also neutralize the ground game with his own wrestling and jiu jitsu so I don't see any other option for Papa Shango than to fight Garrick Head standing up.

#2 Jack “StickDeath” Stick (13 – 4) vs. Fernando “Lover Boy” Diaz (4 – 0)

Lightweight Division

This fight is going to be decided on who controls the mat. Stick and Diaz are both ground specialist although they differ in style.

Fernando Diaz was a TWGC contender that showed his skill with his jiu jitsu. He's won 4 in a row now all via submissions and he look to add another one here. He's a very quick fighter that can exploit a slight loss of focus from his opponents to deal the tap out victory. He should be able to evade Stick's vicious ground and pound with that natural talent of his.

Jack Stick is scary on the ground. His wrestling base is superb but more importantly, his ground and pound is beautiful. He hits a whopping 82% of his strikes on the ground and that is just a monstrous number of hits that he can dish out. Stick passes guard almost 62% percent of the time and that shows what a quality wrestler he is.

I vote Stick in a close match against his opponent. He's experience will be the key to his victory.

#3 Better “Off” Dead (10 – 7) vs. #8 Benny “Brick Breaker” Bishop (8 – 4)

Lightweight Division

Benny Bishop has a mountain to climb as he faces off with former champio Better Dead. Skillwise, Dead is just leaps ahead of Bishop.

Better Dead is a beast with his striking. All of his 10 wins come via (T)KO and if a miracle doesn't come on WC 23, It'll just increase to 11. Dead has also competent Muai Thai and he might try to change angles with his kicks when standing up. Of course, his main weapon is his excellent boxing and its hard to stop a striker like him since his wrestling can stuff down most takedown attempts.

Benny Bishop's only chance is if he can put Dead on the ground. Bishop's jiu jitsu expertise can and will take over. But first things first, how can he get Better Dead on the ground? He can get tagged by Dead's boxing if he goes forward for the attempt. It's also dangerous to try the clinch since Dead has some skill there too. It's going to be really tough for Bishop on all angles and he needs a flawless gameplan to come out with the win here.

Prediction? Better Dead via (T)KO.

#3 “Raging” Roger Rabago (10 – 3) vs. #4 Joe Durham (5 – 0)

Lightheavyweight Division

A ranked battle for Rabago and Durham here. We have two fighters that wants to prove they are solid contenders of the lightheavyweight title. To do that, they have to face each other first!

Rabago is a solid wrestler but his gameplan is to go on the offensive standing up. Curiously, he likes the clinch game even with a low proficiency in Muai Thai. This is the kind of threat that Durham faces. An all-around game that makes unpredictable attacks.

On the other hand, Joe Durham knows what he wants and that is to submit his opponents. He is currently undefeated with all of his 5 wins come via stoppage on tap outs. His respectable wrestling and jiu jitsu brown belts makes him a very tough opponent to beat on the ground. The fact that he has solid boxing too means he's no pushover in the standup game as well.

I go for Joe Durham here to take the win. There has been talk that Rabago's management is mishandling him as a fighter and he is believed to be overtrained. Skillwise, Rabago is superior but too many problems outside the ring will be a big factor in his performance once WC 23 starts.

#5 Touku “Hupsu” Pouku (4 – 0) vs. #7 Jesus Montalban (6 – 0)

Bantamweight Division

These two fighters have dominant starts in their budding careers and the clash between these two fighters will serve as the first test for both of them.

Touku Pouku is a submission expert that was the 155 lbs grappling champion on Combat Purist. He hopes to come down to this division to dominate it as he did on his last organization. His has good takedowns that is key for setting up his grappling. Trainers have also said that he's a brawler too and he's working to improve his striking. This is a timely coincidence as he needs to at least defend himself against a smart fighter like Montalban.

Montalban is a great stand up fighter not because of his heavy hands but how he can score points and use the cage to his advantage. He's a great all around fighter that is also proficient with Muai Thai. His resdtling is strong enough to stuff down opponent's takedown attepts and sufficient grappling to at least see if he is being set up for the submission.

Jesus Montalban will win here because he is a step or two advanced than Pouku. Montalban is a more well-rounded fighter and the fact that he can change levels will be the edge against Pouku who's shown to be a grappler first and foremost.

#10 Bio Hazard (1 – 0) vs. #4 Otto Hauser (4 – 0)

Superheavyweight Division

This is a matchup to see whether they have what it takes to be in the top of their division, or if their ranking are merely inflated. We've got Hazard and Hauser, two very different types of fighters.

Bio Hazard is an up and coming superheavyweight with lots of room for potential. We haven't seen much of him since he only has 2 fights. What we do know is that he has an exceptional wrestling background. He's still working on his striking which is basic to say the least. One thing to take note though is that Hazard is actually very quick for his weight. It might be a game changer as this could surprise his opponents once the bout starts.

Meanwhile, Otto Hauser has been steady in his mma career. He's already accumulated 4 wins with no losses and all of those victories came via (T)KO. Hauser prefers the stand up game more than anything and he uses his strong Muai Thai to deal damage. He can land dangerous knees on the clinch that can wobble you up.

This fight is a toss up. I've got little info about Bio Hazard and Hauser to form a solid prediction. Both of these guys have still a lot to prove and they also have some untested skills that they'll show during the fight. This hopes to be an exciting view to the future of Word Combat's superheavyweight division!

Terror” Trev Allen (3 – 2) vs. “Candyman” David Robitaille (3 – 1)

Heavyweight Division

This fight is one of those opportunities to separate the real prospects from the busts. We have two youngsters here hoping to make a name for themselves.

Trev Allen is one of those youngsters that seem to have it all. He's got a balanced set of tools although his record doesn't reflect the level of skill he really has. Allen is naturally strong which he uses to press advantage wheter standing or on the ground. He has solid boxing and a purple belt in jiu jitsu proves the versatility that he has.

David Robitaille comes down to the heavyweights after a 2-fight stint in the superheavyweight division. He is heavier than Allen which could be a factor since “Candyman” is a wonderful wrestler and he can crush Allen with his weight on the dominant position. His good wrestling is actually supplementary though as he prefers the standup game, especially the clinch, where he can inlict tons of damage with those great elbows.

This one is real tough to predict on. I don't have any choice again. They can pretty much cancel each other out. Skillwise, Allen is better but his morale is a question and that's going to be a plus for Robitaille. Another toss up for sure.

Bad “Homicidal Killer” Karma (0 – 0) vs. Mike “Pounder” Kenner (1 – 3)

Superheavyweight Division

Bad Karma will have to prove he's staying in the division as he gets his first fight as a mixed martial artist here on World Combat. He challenges Mike Kenner who is currently on a 3-loss slump.

There's nothing more to say to Bad Karma but that he's a wonderful wrestler. He balances that with some respectable Muai Thai for the stand up game. After that, I guess its up to his fighting to speak what kind of package he brings into the cage.

The unlucky Mike Kenner does have some versatility in his game. His solid chin can absorb most strikes and his basic boxing can check most of his opponents. The only issue here is how his training has been going on. Talks of overtraining and lack of gameplan plagues Kenner's camp and more likely his losses are due to that. Not his skill as a fighter.

I fancy Bad Karma to win here because he has a better fight camp that Kenner. Mike Kenner seems tired from his training and once judgement day comes, bad cardio leads to losses almost all the time.

Thank you for reading this preview! We hope to see you on Hard Knocks – New York on the 23rd! We'd also like to thank Big Bear Nutrition for helping our fighter to be in top condition! Go Big Bear! WAR WORLD COMBAT!

Mib Louie (13-7)

I have absolutely no idea what a "Bow" is, but I sure as hell know what a head kick is.

I might have had a hard time as of late but that all changes now. I'm a world title level fighter and I'm going to prove that to everyone soon enough.

Once I destroy "Taco Stiffy", I'm returning to the top of the division.

Once I'm finished with Taco, I have one more World Combat opponent in mind.

Clinton Offley, you couldn't handle my striking the first time we fought.

This time, you won't take me to the ground and I'll finish you standing like I should have done at Highland Games 27.

Prime Time with the Prince

"Prince" Shoddy Body

My guest today? Bitch I'm the guest today. Who else would you even want me to talk to? So I'm fighting Jordan Ellis, or wait, is it Jack Ellis? Ahh fuck it I'll just call him James. So James, why do you think you're even qualified to enter the cage with Prince Pretty? I'm a two time NCAA wrestling champion, I'm a former World Combat Middleweight Champion and bitch I rip off more arms than Saudi Arabian lawmen. What the hell can you do to me? I've fought at Welterweight, Middleweight, Super Heavyweight and now Featherweight. I've hit more weights than professional bodybuilders and in just one hour, James Ellis is gonna realize that when it's Prime Time, the prince always walks out without a scratch.

"Prince" Shoddy Body (11-7)

Ouch, this small bruise on my shin is killing me. Pfft, is that all I've got? Backstage when I was blow drying my hair, I heard James Ellis fighting with his manager. It sounded pretty bad, but I suppose you can't blame James. His manager was stupid enough to feed him to the Prince of Pain and the poor guy didn't have a shot. Hopefully I can get on that June 20th card because this hairspray doesn't pay for itself baby. Prince out.

WC: WEDNESDAY NIGHT FIGHTS 2 - PREVIEW

JUNE 10, 2015 - LIVE AT THE LIBERTY DOME

We've got a real doozy of an event coming up on us. World Combat Championship is truly a fight organization on the rise, and this card will go a long way to continue legitimizing them. We've got some real top-shelf matchups, including a co-main that could very well've been the main and will go very far towards determining the future of the featherweight division, and the main event Light Heavyweight title matchup that'll throw two fighters with worlds of momentum behind them at each other and see who comes out alive. Without further ado, lets run through the card.

Middleweight Division – Ari Wilenius, 3-1-0 (0-0-0 in WC) vs Jesus Muchello, 0-1-0 (0-1-0)

We open up the evening with one fighter who’s looking to build on some outside success, and another who’ll be simply trying to create any success whatsoever of his own.

The Finnish Wilenius will be making his first appearance ever in a WC ring, and he certainly boasts quite the highlight reel. His first professional fight was a five-second TKO win over Cole Ohmsford, and he’s barely slowed down since, taking only one loss (by decision) in his 4 QFC outings and winning his most recent bout by 1st round TKO over a very game Rodrigo Silva. The worlds of the QFC and an organization like the WC are miles apart, however, and if Wilenius expects to coast to victory solely based on the results of his QFC fights, well, he’ll almost certainly experience a rude awakening.

“Zeus” Muchello, on the other hand, comes in with much less hype and, to be frank, very little known about him at all. Muchello made his WC (and professional) debut at WC 20, where he fell to Phil Taylor (who’ll also be in action in this event) by 2nd round TKO. It hasn’t seemed to got him too down, though, and it’s certainly not as if he’s completely hopeless; he comes with a quite notable boxing base, and possesses the sort of knockout power that can put him right up near the top of the WC very quickly if he’s given an opening.

PREDICTION: Muchello by 2nd round KO

Featherweight Division – Conor Brazier, 1-2-0 (0-1-0) vs Yoshi Twister, 3-2-0 (0-1-0)

We then move down a few weight classes to what should be a very tight battle between a knockout artist and a submission specialist, both of who are looking to give their WC careers a big jumpstart.

“King” Brazier started his career in New York, where he lost in his pro debut to QFC lifer Slow Learner before joining Montreal Fight Nights for one fight, where he dominated Conor McConnell to the tune of a 1st round KO. He then made his WC debut at Dirty Boxing 2, tapping out to a Pound House triangle choke in the 2nd round. Brazier’s strategy isn’t difficult to figure out; he uses his solid, though not spectacular wrestling abilities to keep his opponent off balance until he’s able to utilize his big time boxing skills to try and score a KO. Whether Twister gives him an opening to do so may well be the deciding factor of this match.

The Tokyo native Twister holds neither the boxing nor wrestling abilities of Brazier, but outclasses him when it comes to BJJ and certainly comes in as the more successful of the pair. Twister opened up his career with two straight QFC 1st round submission victories before joining up with the now defunct Tokyo-based Choke. After winning his first fight in the company in less than forty seconds with an armbar, Twister has not been able to see the same sort of dominance since, taking a first round KO at Choke’s final event and then tapping out in the first round to Jackson Ramos at Dirty Boxing 2. Twister has never been in a fight that’s gone past the first round, so if he doesn’t get on Brazier early and make things uncomfortable for the King, it may well be bad news for him.

PREDICTION: Brazier by 1st round KO

Bantamweight Division – Nigel Benn Jnr, 3-0-0 (0-0-0) vs Timmy TwoTone, 6-3-0 (0-1-0)

The third fight of the evening matches up two fighters who’re almost mirror images of each other. One is looking to continue their undefeated start to their career, while the other is looking to reclaim whatever magic made them unbeatable earlier in their career.

Benn Jnr had his welcome to professional MMA in the Immortals organization in New York, and won all three of the fights he had there, albeit all by decision. That on its own is enough to have some people questioning whether he’s truly good enough to sustain his undefeated record, and it’s not as if those fights were against top flight opponents, either (his opponents hold a cumulative record of 4-8-0). To put too much stock into this, however, would be unfair to NBJ; he’s certainly got the Muay Thai striking ability to put opponents away, and he’s shown off his wrestling ability many a time in his past bouts. A win here, especially one by an actual finish, would do wonders towards quieting Benn Jnr’s doubters.

A loss for him, on the other hand, may send him down a path similar to his opponent for the night. That’s not to discount TwoTone as a fighter; similar to Benn Jnr, his greatest strengths are his Muay Thai and his wrestling, but he also has much sharper boxing experience to draw upon as well. It’d be fair, though, to say that TwoTone’s career hasn’t been trending in the direction he’d prefer it to be. After a 5-0 start to his pro career (4 of those 5 wins coming in the first round, and all by finishes) he’s gone 1-3 since, most recently tapping out in the first round to Arthas Menethil at WC’s inaugural Wednesday Night Fights event. It’s a tough debate over who has more to lose in this fight, but it’s certain that if TwoTone doesn’t want to fade into obscurity, he’s going to have to pull out all of the stops here.

PREDICTION: Benn Jnr by 3rd round TKO

Middleweight Division – Phil Taylor, 1-0-0 (1-0-0) vs Pier Dolly, 3-0-0 (0-0-0)

Speaking of young undefeated records, there’s a pair of them here that’ll both be looking to stay alive. This fight may also serve as the proxy battle for the age-old debate of quality vs. quantity (to a small degree, though).

Representing quality is Taylor, who, though he only has one professional fight, had it in the WC. A dominating performance led to a 2nd round TKO of Jesus Muchello at WC 20, and Taylor will look to build on that versus Dolly. A world class Muay Thai practitioner, Taylor certainly should be focusing on finding his spots to unload on Dolly and, if he’s successful, look for another victory for a man who could be one of MMA’s next rising stars.

Quantity, on the other hand, lays its hopes at the feet of Dolly, a man with triple the fight experience of Taylor, all of which coming from the QFC. All three wins came by decision, which speaks to the popular opinion on Dolly: he’s good enough at both Muay Thai and wrestling to keep himself in matches, but perhaps lacks the finishing power to really put opponents away. Nonetheless, if Taylor doesn’t do enough to make Dolly uncomfortable, there’s a very good chance Dolly could take this bout.

PREDICTION: Taylor by 2nd round TKO

Middleweight Division – Pavel Datsyuk, 2-1-0 (1-1-0) vs Cain Jones 2-0-0 (0-0-0)

Two relative unknowns face off here, but both come in already with a fairly known game plan, so we’ll have to see who’s able to execute theirs better.

Datsyuk is most comfortable on the ground and in the grappling arts, and he uses reckless abandon to get to those positions. As such, all three of his fights have ended in the 1st; both of his wins when his aggressive attacks on his opponent led to him manufacturing a perfect opportunity (including a beautiful feint leading to an armbar that won him submission of the night at WC Fight Night: April Fools), and his loss when he got a little too aggressive and gave Marcus Child an opening to knock him out at WC 20. Whether he’s learned from that match or he sticks to his guns, he’ll be sure to try and make this one an exciting fight.

Jones, on the other hand, is much more of a standup fighter and hasn’t looked as aggressive as Datsyuk thus far. That’s not to say his fights aren’t exciting, as he certainly keeps the action moving, but he seems to look more to control the fight than finish it. It’s worked so far in Jones’s young career, but facing a fighter the likes of Datsyuk, we may now see if he’s able to take his spots when he needs to a finish an opponent off.

PREDICTION: Jones by 1st round KO

Bantamweight Division – Ville Ahokas, 6-2-0 (4-1-0) vs Kirk Lancaster, 7-4-0 (0-0-0)

A pair of well-balanced fighters take to the cage in this one, both of whom are just on the cusp of breaking into bigger opportunities, and neither who’ll be letting their guard down at all.

A former amateur boxer from Helsinki, Ahokas started his career 5-0 before dropping two straight tough ones by decision, then got back on track with a majority decision over Conway Jennings at WC 20. Despite his boxing background, though, he possesses the wrestling and Muay Thai ability to back it up and keep his opponents from keying in on his KO power. If he mixes it up well here and keeps Lancaster guessing, he could certainly leave Lancaster lying at the end of this one.

Lancaster will be making his WC debut here after chalking up a 4-1 record in the Hilo based LFC. He showed his proficiency in aspects in the company, his most notable highlight being a TKO win off of a slam 5 seconds into the 1st round. His wrestling ability is certainly the most notable but, similar to Ahokas, he’s got enough other stuff in his bag o’ tricks that to key in on one aspect of his game would be foolish. This fight may truly come down to the first of these two to make a mistake.

PREDICTION: Ahokas by 3rd round KO

Heavyweight Division – Smokey Simpson, 4-2-0 (1-0-0) vs Rick Rude, 4-2-0 (0-1-0)

The first of the two heavyweight matchups on the card, it’d be fair if outsiders had a hard time telling these guys apart, at least when it comes to their fight styles (though they look nothing alike). Slobberknocker fans had better be ready, as this one should be a good ol’ slugfest.

Simpson’s been a bit of a journeyman in his career up to this point; he was with two different managers before settling with his current one, and only had one fight in the now-defunct Hilo-based WHCF before splitting. His WC career got off to a strong start with a 1st round TKO of Kale Strong at WC 22, and another win may lead to this wanderer finally finding a home. He’s like Rude, is a world class boxer, but his main advantage over Rude comes from his BJJ prowess, which he may have to lean on to pull out a victory.

Rude also debuted at WC 22; however, his performance was less impressive, as he found himself KO’d by San Terra in the 1st round. In fact, every single one of Rude’s pro fights have only been one round long, perhaps owing to an aggressive need to finish fights present inside. Rude’s main advantage comes from his grappling abilities, though he doesn’t always like to use them. He much prefers to keep things standing and swing for the fences, and that may be his downfall here.

PREDICTION: Simpson by 2nd round KO

Heavyweight Division – Drew Carvalho, 6-0-0 (1-0-0) vs Capital Punishment, 4-4-0 (0-0-0)

One’s a two-discipline specialist who does nothing but win, while the other is a hard-working all-rounder who refuses to be intimidated. One claims he’ll “crush your dreams with the flick of the wrist,” the other was, apparently, “born to fight”. No matter how this fight turns out, it truly won’t be lacking entertainment value.

Carvalho carries his 6-0 record and the swagger that comes with it. He’s an alumnus of the now-defunct Amsterdam-based Combat Purist, where he won the heavyweight title in the company’s debut event and held onto it until the company died. He’s completely shunned BJJ and Muay Thai for the good old-fashioned one-two punch of boxing and wrestling, and one’d be lying if they were to say that it hasn’t worked for him. Carvalho, quite simply, carries the “it” factor, and it’s quite frankly impossible at the moment to imagine him losing (that is, of course, until he does).

It won’t be a cakewalk for him, though. Punishment is a gifted well-rounded fighter who’s a former #1 contender for Choppy’s Tough School’s heavyweight belt. He was a staple of the beginnings of CTS, as of their first 9 cards, Punishment fought on 7 of them. He’s found victories by both TKO and submission in the past, and is certainly a thinking man’s fighter who can change up his plan of attack at the drop of the hat. He’ll certainly need to have his mind running on full cylinders if he stands any chance to win this one.

PREDICTION: Carvalho by 1st round TKO

CO-MAIN EVENT – Featherweight Division – Mamad Mouba, 13-4-0 (8-1-0) vs Paul Teixeira, 7-0-0 (3-1-0)

This may very well be the most difficult to predict match on the fight. Two men who’ve made a name for themselves absolutely steamrolling their competition will face off in a match that any MMA fan would be bonkers to miss.

Despite being two years younger than Teixeira, Mouba (he’s 19, Teixeira is 21) holds a mile long advantage in the realm of experience. A former WC featherweight champ, Mouba took the title from Koba Boyka at WC 3, and held it all the way until WC 21, where he lost it to the current champ Ali Roumani. He put himself on the right track to getting back into title contention, though, by beating Dominic Domain by decision in the fight of the night. He boasts top-drawer boxing, wrestling and Muay Thai ability, and is no slouch at BJJ either, making him bar-none one of the purest all-rounders. Though he certainly knows how to win, he’s certainly not one to rush himself into trying for a finish. Simply put, Mouba very rarely makes mistakes, and if he continues that trend here he may well hand Teixeira his first L outside of the TWGC, as well continue his climb back up the championship ladder.

Mostly everything that can be said of Mouba can be said of Teixeira, albeit to a slightly lesser degree. He’s a great all-around fighter, he knows how to win, and he’s certainly put the WC on watch, with wins over Domain, Anthony Placencia, and Mario Bates. Unlike Mouba, though, he has an eye for submissions and isn’t scared to risk a little to snap one on his opponent. If he finds a window on Mouba and makes it so Mouba can’t take this fight as long as he wants it, well, there may be a new “Real King” in WC.

PREDICTION: Mouba by 3rd round TKO

MAIN EVENT – Light Heavyweight Division TITLE FIGHT – Dieter Von Sprockets, 11-3-0 (4-1-0) vs Hughtavious Mingo, 11-3-0 (3-0-0)

This is the kind of matchup that any company in the world would kill to have main event a pay per view. These are two guys who joined the company around the same time (DVS debuted at WC 16, while Mingo’s first bout was at WC 17) and whom’ve both absolutely plowed through their competition thus far, both going 3-0 in their time here.

The champion Von Sprockets is the sort of guy who, win or lose, is certain to put on a hell of a show. In his 13 career non-QFC fights, he’s been awarded submission of the night thrice and been a part of the fight of the night once (albeit in a losing effort). Von Sprockets is a submission wizard. All four of his WC victories (including two over Skunk Asap, the current WC Super Heavyweight Champion) have come by submissions, his go to being a very lethal kimura. He doesn’t seem to be too spectacular at any one aspect of the fight game, but that’s part of his play. He’s absolutely fantastic and picking his spot and, after finding it, ending the fight within seconds.

It may not be too easy for him to do the same against Mingo, though, as the challenger is an absolute hoss. Of his 11 professional wins, 9 of those ended in the first round, 6 of them being KOs. It’s extremely rare that a challenger comes into a fight the favourite, but it’s almost impossible to think of Mingo as anything else. The pride of West Monroe, Louisiana has all of the talent in the world, and brings the determination along with it. Put simply: Mingo ends fights on his terms, whenever he damn chooses, and it looks to me as if he’ll do just that against Von Sprockets and walk out with the Light Heavyweight Championship.

PREDICTION: Mingo by 2nd round KO – NEW CHAMP!

Jensen Haye 135lbs (5-1-0)

After a successful debut for World Combat Championships I'm pleased to get another fight offer to fight in a couple of weeks. This time it's going to be some bum off the streets who hasn't even had a professional fight yet, Shane Gerald. I've heard some rumours about him being the nephew of the boss of World Combat but screw that, I'm not taking a dive for anyone, nephew or not, the kid is going down.

After I beat this bum it should make me one of the highest ranked contenders so I just wanted to warn the other fighters in 135 - I'm coming for that belt soon. Watch this space.
