I'm sure a few of you noticed, but we've just went through a full rebrand.

We commissioned Rei to give us the full package, and man did he deliver.

I'm a huge fan of simplistic, real-life looking logos and I think he nailed what I was looking for. I can already think of a couple of ways I can use the logo in other formats, such as posters. Looking forward to getting to work with everything in the near future.

With our new look, Tycoon Hec looking after the personality of the org, our merge with Colossus MMA and myself getting back into the writing as all my awful university work has been sent off, we're in a damn good spot right now.

Oh, and did I mention we've also moved up to 5 events per week? That's 50 fights and 100 fighters competing every single week. Love it.

The downside of having a bigger roster is that we have a bunch of low hyped guys that take the ratings down on each event, but I'm much more interested in introducing managers to an active org and getting their fighters involved than I am about breaking the records right away. We're only about 2 months into The Island, there's another 4 for us to drive the rest of it home.

That being said, this coming Sunday we have our most stacked card to date as we look to blow the roof off of the 2000 seater Hayashi's Lounge with four title fights, all of them being fights to merge our titles with the now-vacant Colossus ones.

You're either with us or you're missing out, so whether you're considering making an Island fighter or you're competing over in the other promotion, make sure you get your fighter over to Highland asap cause things are only getting better and better.

Highland 25
“Colossus MMA”

Live on April 18th from Hiyashis Lounge on the Island, Mixed Martial Arts enthusiasts will witness one of the best Island fight cards to date as COMMA has merged with Highland to give you more knockouts, more submissions, and more all out wars! In the merging of these two promotions we will see as some of the very best champions in Highland will take on the Colossus Champions. The Heavyweight, Light heavyweight, Middleweight, and Welterweight titles  are all on the line in what we can all assume to be all out wars! Callum Mcgregor has outdone himself with Highland 25 and I truly believe that this will be the promotion's highest rated fight card for a long time. Multiple fights with two unbeaten fighters, several titles on the line, and the expectation of constant knockouts lingers! My name is Tycoon Hec and I am super honored to be previewing this event for these young up and coming professionals and future stars of MMA Tycoon! Also, after you read the fights you're interested in hearing previewed check out some of the undercard fighters in our spotlight and let me know if you agree with me! Lastly, shoutout to the Merch Partner that is Pho Q. Let's get into the fights!

Odd Job vs Maurice Tillet
Welterweight Championship

The former welterweight champion of Colossus Odd Job (3-0) battles the welterweight champion, Maurice “The Crusher” Tillet (4-0) in what will most likely become a match-up that will not last long on the feet. Odd Job is a martial artist who looks to get the fight to the ground as quickly as possible. Despite his standup game not being considered anywhere near elite, he has managed to handle his own against one of his opponents in the past and one can only wonder that he has steadily improved in that standup department. Odd Job will face perhaps his toughest test to date as he takes on “The Crusher” who has stopped three of his four opponents in the very first round and the fourth opponent in the second. Tillet, trainee at Walter J Abramowitz center for bigness home of a few champions and former Heavyweight Champion Rav Kapur. There is an understanding that once TIllet gets a fighter to the ground he immediately looks to seek and destroy. Whether his opponent is skilled on the ground or not he puts a beating forcing them into unconsciousness! There are interesting takeaways Odd Job will want to note in his matchup with Tillet. The primary is that Tillet will look to gain side control, he employs this tactic and just his massive strength prevents his opponents from gaining any sort of improvement in position. Literally, everytime he gets side control he ends the fight within seconds. The second thing he needs to note is despite him being only a blue belt in BJJ we saw TIllet execute some dangerous defensive grappling with his last opponent in Skinner, his instincts kicked in and he slammed Skinner when he had a Triangle locked in. We believe that Tiillet has been largely focusing on his BJJ game and we can assume he is getting better every day. Something Tillet will want to note is that anytime Odd Job has attempted a submission, he has secured it. Whether Odd Job is on top or on the ground this Jiu Jitsu specialist has an unbelievable submission game! Tillet and Odd Job will both want the takedown and it is imperative that Tillet gets that first as there may not be a path to victory if Odd Job succeeds in taking Tillet down. The position is going to be a matter of great importance. We know Tillet likes side control and we know that Odd Job looks to be in guard, there will be a ton of position improvement and a bunch of strikes and I believe we will eventually see these two warriors fight at the highest level of the game one day in a rematch.

Prediction: Tillet will get the takedown front the clinch position and once again move to side control. I believe Tillet will attempt a submission of his own but win the fight with ground and pound by the end of the first round.

Needle Dick vs Rav Kapur
Heavyweight Championship

Lousianas own Needle Dick (4-0) has sent shockwaves to the Island game by his shocking knockout finishes against his opponents largely in the first round. Dick, who prefers to be in the clinchwork of the game, also has no hesitation to stand with his opponents and slug it out. The heavyweight champion of Highland has a reputation for his punching accuracy but has also developed a solid defensive grappling game and he will need it if he is going against Birmingham's own Rav Kapur (3-0)! Kapur, who has faced knockout artists before, does not really fear going into the bout with Needle Dick who has absolutely starched his last four opponents. His team believes that once he gets the fight to the ground it will all be over for Dick. Kapur is a phenom when it comes to his takedowns with virtually unparalleled speed and fight fans are interested to know if the balance skill of Dick will be able to counter that. Despite fight fans not witnessing Kapur engage much at all in the clinch game one thing that has proven certain is that Kapur can take a punch as he has done so against two knockout artists in the past. The question is, can Kapur get Dick to the ground and hold him there long enough to score a submission? Even though Kapur is a purple belt in BJJ his submission attempts and successions are not as high as he would like. We have also witnessed Dick with impressive defensive grappling against BJJ artists in the past stopping multiple submission attempts. So how does this fight actually play out? Dick has a unique advantage on the feet, but I don't believe we will see that occur. We will want to see him press Kapur against the cage holding him in the clinch and looking for that TKO finish. Rav on the other hand has to be aiming for that takedown improving his position and utilizing ground and pound before securing any submission attempts. Not much for ground and pound at all, if all he does is submission attempts I could see the referee standing this one up and Kapur could launch one of those deadly punches we all know so well. It really is a toss up and both managers are eager to get their guy the win on the 18th and a sense of urgency to get it done sooner rather than later in the fight is definitely an unspoken necessity as both these guys are incredibly dangerous in that cage.

Prediction: I believe Kapur will be cliched against the cage and prove to the fans his clinch game is not that bad scoring a takedown, advancing position, landing some strikes until finally securing the win with a beautiful submission victory. My guess, late in the first round.

Cathair McKay vs Gregorio Serrano
Middleweight Championship

When Irish and Mexicans fight...They fight. Guarantee you this is already fight of the night. I Guarantee you we will watch these two go at it in a trilogy. And I guarantee you there will be blood. The Middleweight Title is on the line as we see Cathair McKay (4-0) defend it against former Comma champion Gregorio Serrano (3-0) Let me just start off by saying if this fight is not the fight of the night, I will retire as a writer and publicly sharing any type of prediction. Why do I believe that this will be the best fight? Between the two of these iron jaw warriors they have 4 fights with a 100% satisfaction rating...Why? Because these guys swing for grand slams like their name was Babe freaking Ruth! We witnessed Gregorio take three massive head kicks in his last match up and continue to press the action. We have seen McKay walk through haymakers to land his own. The intensity this fight will provide for fight fans is off the charts. Recent training footage have shown Serrano working his clinch game in preparation for the defensive against the ever aggressive McKay in the Clinch, while videos of McKay have proven that he is working diligently on his agility improving his striking defense and accuracy. Regardless of how the fight ends, these two fan favorites will have the place roaring at the end. I think we can safely assume that McKay will look to initiate a clinch and work the body strikes of Serrano sapping his energy and power while Serrano will be more aggressive on the standup and try to keep the distance. Lightweight Champion Kranckx Diesel has spoken of the level of difference McKay has been showing lately in sparring and explained to us that there is literally no rival to Mckay at the middleweight weight class. On the other side Torhte Finlayson who will be fighting on tonight's card, has shared that Serrano literally hits like he is a light heavyweight and once Mckay feels that power he will be fast asleep. While McKay may be looking to utilize the clinch game it is necessary we share that Serrano has broken away from the clinches against opponents who were also highly skilled in the clinch game. I think this should imply we will see a majority of this fight in the standup with exchanges in the center of the cage. Primarily a Muay Thai fighter, McKay has no problem working against talented boxers like Serrano. This will be on my watchlist for sure and I look forward to an interview with the winner of this bout after it all goes down in regards to this fight.

Prediction: Despite my love for McKay, I think Serrano is unrivaled on the standup game. His accuracy and chin are too much of a threat for any standup fight. I believe Serrano will win this fight on a split decision victory.

Torhte Finlayson vs Murtaz Vatsadze
Light Heavyweight Championship

In a light heavyweight title match up with fun names fight fans also get to witness two violent knockout artists compete for the Highland title. Out of the six fights these two individuals have competed in, only one fight has gone past the very first round. Torhte “Gingy Bear” Finlayson (3-0) believes his opponent Murtaz Vatsadze (3-0) is the toughest opponent he has faced to date and Murtaz has returned the compliment. Going into this fight many fight fans believe it will be the very first time that we witness “Gingy Bear” receive a punch. We aren't sure yet if he can take one but we are confident that if he is going against the likes of someone like Vatasdze, he will receive one, and with Vatsadze sometimes one is all it takes to put the fight away. Murtaz Vatsadze is a fighter who has a love for the clinch game. Often initiating the clinch and spending the majority of his fights there, he is a brawler through and through. When it comes to the clinch game, Finlayson may not be the one who chooses to initiate it but he has no problem being in there. His 100% striking accuracy inside the clinch holds true to that and when he chooses to break from the clinch he makes it known that a fighter should keep their hands up at all times. Finlayson, who has probably the highest striking defense we will see on this card is going against a fighter who enjoys the brawl, the collision of fists, and desires nothing more than to exchange brutal strikes seeking a knockout. I had a chance to connect with Finlayson gym, which I have to say seems a bit shady and I don't believe anyone has really looked into it or the owners of Island Gym, and he seems relentless in camp working like a bull against a matador. Due to my close connections with some of the fighters over at Walter J Abrams center for bigness, I can safely state that Vatsadze desires nothing more than to be the 5th champion over at Walter J Abrams and to take the belt from a guy like Finlayson would be a feat of itself! Vatsadze, who has a few of his teammates fighting for titles as well on this card, has been on video landing punches that would normally put any man to sleep. His fight camp has definitely been going well according to his sparring partners sharing that his agility and striking defense are at an all time high and that Finlayson will get touched more than once before the end of the night. Finlayson does not seem to be bothered about the support for Vatsadze and considers he will be a champion once again but this time of Highland.

Prediction: I believe Vatsadze has a higher caliber of sparring partners readying him up for this match up. I think he has a formula to put Finlayson away. Finlayson is certainly the favorite of many going into this fight but Vatsdze will be the one with his hand raised by the end of the night!

Island Guy vs Dalton Dekker
Middleweight Match-up

The first main card fight of the night sees two power punchers enter the cage with hopes of dismantling the other sending them home via knockout. Island Guy (3-1) is a well respected martial artist on the Island who has one loss from the current champion Cathair McKay and boy was that a great fight. His opponent, the always aggressive Dalton Dekker (2-1) looks to make a statement in the welterweight division by putting down one of the best fighters in the promotion. Dekker is a highly accurate and super confident fighter walking down his opponents pushing the pace and landing absolute bombs on them. His ferociousness in the ring strikes nervousness in his opponents regularly making them hesitate in their striking. Guy, has become known as a warlord in the clinch game dismantling opponents left and right by pure dominance landing almost at will. Now this fight, like many others on the card this evening, looks to bring the fight fans non stop striking action. Both fighters are well aware of the strengths the other brings to the table and are at the same time aware of the weaknesses the other seems to have. Island Guys team believes that to truly win this match against Dekker they have to be just a little more accurate with their strikes and eventually their guy will be the second one to put away Dekker. On the other side of the ring, Dekker will have to utilize his footwork evading the clinch game and landing powerful body shots while being mixed up with punches to the head. This fight will be like a human version of rockem sockem robots and it will probably go the entire distance so smart fighting is a necessity and the want to be overly aggressive should not be selected as an option without careful decision. Talking with Dekkers team, they have shared how his training with such elite sparring partners has mentally and physically prepared him for war against Island Guy. When you consider where Guy does train you have to factor in the reality that he trains at one of the best stand up gyms in the Island and that having a striking matchup with him may not be what many fighters may choose to go for in getting the win.

Prediction: Dekker pulls off a stunning victory after landing some damaging body shots forcing Guy to crumble and finishing the match with intense ground and pound until the referee stops it.

Undercard Fighter Spotlights!

Joshua "The Roach" Spotter --> Joshua "The Roach" Spotter is a new menace when it comes to the Island. Training out of Walter J. Abrams, like most the champions on this card, this 25 year old looks to capitalize in the striking game by providing another knockout against a fighter who is wildly inaccurate in striking but still dangerous when he lands. Expect Joshua to advance in the ladder and provide a second round knockout.

Rory "Double R" Roberts --> Rory "Double R" Roberts is supposedly being managed by a new manager in Olivia Wood. Rory, having a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and having a great ability in takedowns is looking to get his first victory against a white belt on Highland 25s undercard. The need for him to step up his submission skills is vital if he hopes to make a name for himself or his manager in the future.

Guy "Tarzan" Neer --> Guy "Tarzan" Neer is managed by new manager Tim Neer. Guy is what many at Cozad the Island are calling a prodigy in the mma world. His friends have been quite honest with him urging him to get to a better training facility as soon as possible or he will not make it far. Guy has everything going for him except the right training partners and coaches and when he secures his victory the world will be waiting for his next move!

There you go folks. Do you agree? Do you Disagree? Who takes the gold tonight and who goes home without it? Where does Dekker and Guy end up in the very near future? And what are your thoughts on all of our short fighter spotlights for the night. It is such a pleasure to right for you guys. Also, make sure to tune in for Highland 24 on April 16th when undefeated Kranckx Diesel takes on unbeaten "The Rocket" Johnny Turner for the lightweight title and then on April 19th for Highland 26th when the (3-0) sensation that is Noel Diaz defends his title against fellow submission expert Millard Masters who is also (3-0)! Is there a fighter you want to see interviewed? Let us know! We will get on that for you.

Highland 26
a quick preview

Highland continues to produce some of the best fights in the game right now and tonight's main event is another testament to that. From submission match-ups to striking matchups to well rounded fighter match-ups Highland 26 is going to make your head spin! Noel DIaz and Millard Masters is the most talked about fight of the day today and we had to show up to give you a quick preview. Unlike other previews this one does not go into too much detail, does not have a fighter spotlight, and wont have links for the reader but feel the freedom to read the main card previews. Agree? Disagree? Let me know on your thoughts below.

Noel Diaz vs Millard Masters
135lbs Bantamweight Title

You already knew I had to write a review for one of my favorite fighters in Noel Diaz (3-0). His upcoming match against a blue belt submission specialist, Millard Masters (3-0) makes for one the most anticipated Bantamweight events of Island history. When these two square off on the cage later this evening it is necessary to know one thing, someone will tap out. It may not be the most entertaining of fights for many people but if you are an MMA enthusiast you will be drooling about this upcoming match up. Noel Diaz, a decorated brown belt in BJJ, enjoys clinching with his opponents and pulling guard immediately. A lanky fighter who enjoys the submission game off his back has no concern with being in that position. His opponent in Masters has a strong tendency to blitz the takedown on his opponents and work for the submission. One guy prefers being on his back and appears to prefer working from the top. Neither fighter really spends much time with the ground and pound efforts as they rather aim to control and improve their position. A majority of fans are siding with the current champion to pull off the victory as he has a tendency to immediately lock in submissions when he attempts them whether that be against white belts or more experienced brown belt opponents. MIllard Masters does have a tendency to constantly work until he finally locks one in but we have seen him struggle to lock submissions on fighters with a lesser understanding of the grappling game. We know both of these guys have been working on weights at their local gyms and drilling the grappling quite a bit. For Millard Masters to secure a victory here, he must improve position to mount and mix in ground and pound against the talkative Noel Diaz. Despite that being a hard feat for most fighters it is certainly possible for Masters. Diaz's path to victory seems a lot more clear whereas should Diaz hold him in a position and set up a triangle he may be able to tighten the grip on one and force masters to take a few steps down in rankings. Harrison and Karelin, two of the top coaches at Smash Fighting have shared with me that they have seen such quickness with Masters in his transitions that they don't believe Diaz had an opponent he faced remotely similar to that on the ground. Diaz on the other side of the table has been training over at Tez’s Stand and Bang normally working on his striking defense he spent a large portion of this camp hitting the weights and circuit training. After yesterday's BJJ sparring session, Miguel Souza a brown belt and Highlands featherweight champion told us he believes that Diaz submits masters in the first and puts the entire division on notice that he is levels above them on the ground.

Prediction: Diaz has his toughest challenge against him on the ground but i believe he pulls it off via triangle. I believe he will be placed in uncomfortable positions multiple times from Masters and have to transition out of many positions before he locks a sub attempt in.

Valerio Falto vs Ambros Taube
135lbs Match up

The unbeaten Sicilian sensation, Valerio “Siciliano” Falto (2-0) has his first fight in the Island since joining from QFC. Despite his deplorable gym, Cozad, his teammates have shared they love having the Siciliano in the gym as he is so motivated to becoming the champion of Highland in the near future and that motivates all of them as well. A fighter with two first round submissions against much easier opponents will have his hands full when he tries to takedown “Immortal” Ambros Taube (2-2). Taube who has twice as much experience in the cage as Falto will look to keep the fight standing as much as possible and catch Falto with his accurate punches. Taube has suffered both a knockout and submission in his career so it is safe to say that Falto will be looking to those fights to see what he can employ to his path to victory. Falto and his Coazd buddies seem very confident that he will easily take down Taube and secure a submission later this evening and move his tally to three wins. The path to victory looks very clear for both fighter, Taube has to land those punches in bunches and drop Falto. Falto must gain that takedown or allow Taube to get a takedown and work for submissions. A purple belt in BJJ against a White Belt seems pretty simple how that goes but it will all come down to the takedown abilities. However this fight goes, Falto, PLEASE find a better gym.

Prediction: Valerio Falto takes Ambros down on his second attempt and locks in a dangerous kimura all but breaking the arm of Taube.

Jobber Joe vs Apollo Turner
135lbs Match up

Since losing his match-up against his training partner and now champion Diaz, “The Bum” Jobber Joe (3-1) has been hitting the pads relentlessly looking to get back in the W column adding a fourth knockout victory to his resume. His opponent Apollo “Rampage” Turner (1-3) has a knockout win of his own in a fight that lasted all but five seconds, Turner blasted two combos on the respected striker sending him down to the mat. You may be wondering why Turner is getting a match-up with Joe in such wide ranges of records. The reality is, when Turner steps in the cage he absolutely starches folks. When he places his fist on the chin of his opponents they wobble. Oftentimes it takes a smart fighter to realize they have to adapt and overcome if they want to pull off the victory against Turner. The over aggressiveness is certainly a crowd pleaser but it is also quite predictable. Joe is an absolute phenom at this division and working over at Tezs stand and bang has only gotten greater with his striking accuracy as of late. This is my pick for both fight of the night and knockout of the night. The question many fight fans will be having is can Joe take a shot on the chin and stay standing from Turner. The path for victory lies in not being overtly aggressive for Turner while Joe utilizes the clinch game and assuming that Turner is coming in full guns blast.

Prediction: Jobber Joe steps in tonight countering and out pointing Turner, eventually stopping him late in the second round.

KJ Wassermann vs Mike Lee
155lbs Match up

The crowd puller that is KJ Wassermann (3-1) looks to add a fourth knockout victory to his colorful resume as he steps in against an unknown talent in Mike “Lethal” Lee (0-1). Lee who holds a loss on his record hopes that will be the only loss to ever come about in his career. This evening however his match-up against Wassermann looks to be a lot more of a challenge. Wassermann is not the most accurate striker in the world but when he lands a shot it is heard around the world! Wasserman has three incredible knockouts against fighters that had solid chins and average striking abilities. Training out of Big Island Fitness, KJ’s coaches have stated that Wasserman is looking to take the nickname lethal away from Mike Lee when he drops him in the first round. Wasserman is a massive favorite going into this match-up and odds are high we will see a knockout of the night in this match up as well. Path to victory for Mike Lee lies not in playing the stand up game and unless there is a secret to his arsenal that we do not know about he has to pull guard from the clinch position and utilize those brown belt skills. Lee, who is only 18 has a lot of time to grow as a fighter but training at Cozad will not help him much.

Prediction: KJ Wasserman takes home the knockout of the night award within two minutes of the first round.

Better Dead vs Matt Starr
155lbs Match up

In a fight that looks like it can go either way at any point, fight fans get to witness Better “Than” Dead (1-1) battle Matt Starr (2-0) in what appears to be a push for both of these fighters to be recognized by their division. Matt Star, who is currently unbeaten and is wildly accurate in his strikes will be looking to land significant more headshots in this match up with Better Dead. It is imperative to note that Dead has a great level of accuracy as well when he throws strikes and should he choose to not mix the fight so much and focus strictly on the striking game with Starr, fight fans will be in for a real treat! I am unsure if the training at Acme has informed Dead that his priority should be in the stand up game, especially against Starr! He could really be damaging his future attempting these takedowns that really dont do much for him. Starr on the other hand has to recognize what Dead is best at while at the same time being aware of what he usually does. This is really no easy task and will take complete focus throughout the entire fight for Starr. Despite neither fighter really holding knockout power we can expect this fight to go the distance, probably the only fight on the main card to do so, unless it goes to the ground. Should Better Dead take Starr to the ground I fully believe Star will work for and secure a submission instantaneously.

Prediction: Matt Star outpoints Better Dead to a decision in a great striking match.

Thanks again and good luck to all the fighters on Highland 26 this evening!
