the more aggressive means you use more energy in fights as opposed to someone who's looking for a counter? Whats the benefit for being an aggressive fighter? Can't you be a better counter fighter if you have the same stats?

I think if you're more aggressive you get more attacks in.  Counter attacks only occur if the original attack fails.  The benefit to being counter seems mainly to be that counterattacks seem to be more effective, by a fairly significant margin.  But if the aggressive fighter never failed an attack the counter fighter would just sit there getting beaten on.  He'll never succeed at every attack, but if he succeeds at 2/3 the counter fighter would only get 1/3 as many attacks as the aggressive fighter got.  So that's the main tradeoff, from what I can see.

Not quite, this slider does decide if you are going to initiate or counter but if both fighter lean hard on counter the one who is more aggro will initiate more instead of both fighter just refusing to fight. Every slider including aggro is a non-absolute slider so the game will apply some logic to it. If you're thinking about this slider the same way you're thinking of 'punch/kick' you're missing some details.
