Holmgang announces first signings

Merely minutes after the paperwork was filed and Holmgang was once again a reality, Jack Walian, the CEO, accountant, talent scout, secretary and PR officer of Holmgang announced it's first signings.

Ha "The Opposer" Satan

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/2/2w7.jpg

Pro record: 1-0

Fighting style: MMA-styled Muay Thai

Age: 23

Height: 185 cm

WeighT: 184 lbs

Fights at: Middleweight

"Ha Satan was one of the first fighters we approached and the first to get back to us" Walian said, "We are really excited to have this exciting young talent be the first of many to join our middleweight ranks.

Satan showed great ability in his first performance, where he dominated his opponent both in the clinch and on the ground. This Muay Thai competitor will surely be looking to make a fuzz in his Holmgang debut.

Stone Hand

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/30/30w14.jpg

Pro record: 1-1 (1 KO)

Fight style: Sprawl and brawl

Age: 23

Height: 201 cm

Weight: 285

Fight at: Heavyweight

"Stone Hand really is an appropriate name, as he ended his first fight in half a minute" a clearly excited walian said to reporters "And his loss just showed more of his heart than his victory". The fight Walian referred to was his last outting against top heavyweight prospect and Muay Thai competitor Tigellinus Satanae, where Stone hand was reportedly hit 152 times and still managed to walk out of the ring, and thus ending Satanae's knockout spree.

Whilst Hand would prefer having them raised in victory, this is a feat to be admired, and shows that he can both take a punch as well as dish them out.

One to look out for.

Andre Almeida

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/35/35b1.jpg

Pro record: 1-0

Fight style: Ground and Pound

Age: 18

Height: 176 cm

Weight: 159

Fight at: Lightweight

Andre made his MMA debut and really left fans with one question - how nasty can he be? He dominated his opponent, took him down at will and beat him up on the ground. He wasn't looking for a finish in that fight. He doesn't have to. He knows that even if guy survive to a decision - judges can make only one thing. Name Andre as a winner. Now he is back in training camp, looking to improve his game and hand a loss to another fighter. If you are looking for a future champion and next big thing - you just found it.

"Fight Time: Finalnd"'s journalist talked to Andre about his fight and signing with Holmgang.

Journalist: Well, you really showed your brutal fighting style in your debut. It was painfull to watch that, I can't imagine what he felt

Andre: Yeah, guy wasn't THAT tought. Give some credit to him - he survived. I did what I wanted to do, and maybe I should be more determine to finish him, but W on my records says I did great job.

Journalist: Before MMA, you trained wrestling and you was ver promising wrestler in Brazil. There was a rumor that you will be a part of Brazil's Olympic team in wrestling - but it seems that plan just get squashed

Andre: I don't yet. MMA is awesome, in wrestling I was always missing something - why I can't hit the guy if I took him him down? And then I found MMA, and I saw guys taking opponents down and just destroy them with ground and pound. I said to myself that I will do same thing - and guess what, I did.

Journalist: You signed with new organization based in Helsinki where you train right now. What you can say about it?

Andre: To be honest - Im happy. I get a call after my fight, but I needed some time to calm and recover and when I thought about it lately, I decide to sign it. Why not? I mean, I will still fight in near future, not for Holmgang yet. I want to make my way up in local circuit before going higher. I want to show to other guys at 155 that here comes a beast that you have to fear, and that Im the Ultimate Force to be reckon with.

Journalist: You think you have the tools to do that?

Andre: My wrestling is sharp, my jiu jitsu is getting better and better, my striking game is good enough to close the distance and use my wrestling - I just trying to do my best, be as good as I can be and just domiante.

Journalist: Any last words?

Andre: Get ready world. New freak is rising right now. And to guys at 155 - Welcome, to the food chain!

Holmgang announces first events

Earlier today Jack Walian, the CEO, contract negotiator, matchmaker, water cooler and event manager of Holmgang announced three new upcoming MMA events during a press conference.

"It's going to be a blast" Walian was reported saying in the press conference.

Holmgang: Challengers: 1 is going to take place the 24th of November and will be happening at The Underground which has a maximum capacity of a 1000 spectators. "I'm sure it will be filled to the brim with local martial arts fans who are interested in seeing the next Finnish superstars take their first swing at glory, it's going to be wild"

The fights: "Currently we are in the drawing board, still bringing in talent wherever we can find it, but we have two fights already set up and agreed upon for our december 15th event"

The fights Walian was referring to are Satan vs. Morimoto and Hand vs. Horst.

"Personally I'm looking forward to the Satan vs. Morimoto-fight because of the stylistic match-up, both are primarily strikers, Morimoto is a boxer whilst Satan is a Muay Thai competitor, this might help solve the old question of which style really is the best"

But that's not taking away from the Hand vs. Horst fight which promises to be an absolute brawl.

"Oh my is this fight going to be a barn burner" Walian said when asked about this fight "Both are strikers, both can take a punch as well as give one, I don't think either of them plan of giving an inch in this fight"

Walian also promised more fights to be announced as they were negotiated so all we have to do is strap ourselves in and get the popcorn.

Holmgang announces roster update

"Fighters are queuing around the block to sign the dotted line" Jack Walian the CEO, sales pitcher, human resources rep and material manager of Holmgang stated early this morning.

Justin Payne

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/1/1w6.jpg

Pro record: 1-0 (1 KO)

Fighting style: Wrestling

Age: 18

Height: 210 cm

Weight: 190 lbs

Fight at: Light Heavyweight

This towering Light heavyweight really impressed Jack in his first fight; "Vicious ground and pound is what I'd call the treatment he put on his opponent, simply vicious"

Standing at 210 centimeters he will certainly tower over almost everyone in the division, and hopefully he can learn some striking to utilize his long limbs.

Fight out of the not quite intimidating st. Petersburg gym Brown Bear Aerobics Payne has access to high level training in all disciplines, but we can expect him to be in great shape as we have come to expect from fighters from that camp.

Maciej "The Beast" Gajwer

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/6/6b7.jpg

Pro record: 2-0 (2 subs)

Fighting style: Submission wrestling

Age: 20

Height: 187 cm

Weight: 184 lbs

Fighting at: Middleweight

This BJJ blue belt has already showed his grappling prowess in the finnish regional circuits, and now he will be looking to choke, break and wrestle his way to a title belt in the Holmgang middleweight division.

"He is a specimen, a natural middleweight who will be going for the submission from start to finish" Jack said.

The all-rounder has another fight scheduled before he makes his Holmgang debut, but Walian is sure how it's going to end.

"With a painful and early submission, his opponent might be a good wrestler, but look for Gajwer to hit a submission from his guard".

Let's see if this man of endless optimism is right yet again.

Jack Nelson

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/24/24w22.jpg

Pro record: 3-2 (2 subs)

Fighting style: MMA-brawling

Height: 172 cm

Weight: 145 lbs

Fighting at: Lightweight

The Swedish five fight veteran Jack Nelson makes another nice addition to the Holmgang roster, riding a two fight winning streak he has displayed both his striking talents as well as his grappling skills. With two choke victories and an insane amounts of combinations thrown looking for the knockout, Nelson should be one of the more exciting fighters Holmgang has to offer.

These are just some exciting new signings, unfortunately we don't have time to cover them all.

Holmgang adds to their roster

"These past few days have been crazy" an excited Jack Walian, CEO, ticket salesman, popcorn popper, shipping and recieving manager and chief of foreign relations of the up and coming MMA-organization Holmgang was quoted of saying in his last press conference.

"We've signed plenty of new talent and are currently close to fifty long time contracts, a month before our first event, it's crazy. Let me run you through some of the guys who have signed up for the past few days.

Johnny "Wtf" Michael

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/39/39b33.jpg

Pro record: 2-0 (1 sub)

Fighting Style: BJJ

Age: 24

Height: 193 cm

Weight: 180 lbs

Fighting at: Middleweight

This Finnish up and coming sensation is a BJJ purple belt who has shown his grappling skills already in the regional circuit, now he takes a step up and looks to compete in Holmgang for money, glory and women.

Being 2-0 he has one of the better looking records in Holmgang and in an organization with such a fresh roster could prove to be one of the main eventers in a few fights time, provided he keeps the submissions coming.

"Icecold" Jere Alasin

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/6/6w24.jpg

Pro record: 1-0 (1 KO)

Fighting style: Street fighting

Height: 181 cm

Weight: 185 lbs

Fighting at: Middleweight

This sturdy middleweight is an all-out brawler as he showed in his MMA debut. Having some skills in most facets of the sport you could call him an all-rounder, but in reality, he is an all-out knock your teeth out kinda guy who would love nothing more than to rearrange your face after knocking down a few drink of undiluted Koskenkorva. A dangerous dude for anyone who sees him on the other side of the cage. "I love this kid" Jack Walian stated as he showed the one and a half minute clip of Alasin's first fight "He really comes to knock his opponent into space any way he can, if he keeps this up he has a bright future."

Johnny Kramer

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/19/19b17.jpg

Pro record: 2-0 (2 KOs)

Fighting style: Ground and friggin pound

Height: 191 cm

Weight: 266 lbs

Fighting at: Heavyweight

"This mustache wielding gentleman is not somebody you want on top of you in the ring, that's for sure." Walian said, "He can run through you and make you wish you left some brain cells at home so he couldn't pound them all into oblivion"

It certainly is true that Kramer has an intimidating prowess in the ring, probably stemming from his excellent wrestling pedigree, which so far has allowed him to take his opponents down and beat them into unconsciousness, a scary, scary dude and a great addition to the Holmgang heavyweight division.

Ronnie "The Showstopper" Hannigan

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/6/6b19.jpg

Pro record: 3-0 (2 KO)

Fight style: Striker

Age: 25

Height: 188 cm

Weight: 177lbs

Fight at: Middleweight

If you are looking for a banger who ain't afraid of fighting - you found him. Ronnie Hannigan, born and raised in Fresno, CA, started as a wrestler with impressive 73-4 record as a amateur boxer with 70 wins by KO. Now, he jumped to MMA, when he scored 2 KO victories thus far and he is looking to deliver one another KO Of The Night. Former Welterweight decided to move up, and fight at 185lbs, so expect him coming more poweerful than ever before. He wants to punch his way not only to victory in Holmgang Middleweight Grand Prix - but to title and position of elite middleweight in the world.

Reporter visited IMMA Gym Of Elite ASS, to talk with Ronnie Hannigan about his recent signing with Holmgang

Reporter: Im here with ROnnie "The Showstopper" Hannigan, newly signed Middleweight for Holmgang. So, we've heard you will be fighting in Middleweight GP, against another top ranked Middleweight - Brock Jennings, any thoughts about this fight?

Ronnie: Blessing for me. I mean, I just sign with Holmgang and they throw on me their best 185er. That's awesome for me. It will be tough fight, I will have to walk to that cage with not only my A-Game, I will need AA-Game. Brock is tough, that's for sure. It's gonna be perfect test for me, if I beat him him, I will be favor to win whole GP. So I need to be ready for it.

Reproter: In your last fight you faced similiar fighter to Brock, another grappler and submission specialist. You think that's advantage for you?

Ronnie: Yeah, you saw me on my back and you saw that I know how to deal with that. My BJJ ain't ADCC world championship level yet, but Im doing my best. Same with my wrestling, I train with Andre Almeida here - and if you don't know this kid, he is amazing wrestler. Maybe my ground game is what I need to work on, but it's not time when you could take me down at will, you know?

Reporter: Why "The Showstopper"?

Ronnie: (laughs) funny story. I went to a club with few friends, we wanted just to chill out and relax. And there was big guy, that was completly drunk and he tried to ruin whole party. So I thought it would nice, to not allow him to pass out from drinking, right? I simply knock his ass out, and drag him outside the building...so, I stopped his show, right? (laughs)

Reporter: Thank you for your time, see you soon in Holmgang.

Ronnie: Thanks, can not wait to fight you Brock!

Impending professional debuts

Every fighter has been there, the nerves, the excitement your heart-rate going through the roof.

It can be in front of ten people or in this case, in front of a thousand screaming drunk Finnish MMA-fans who wants to see someone's skull bashed in.

These expectations aren't always easy to fill, especially not when you have another guy going through the exact same emotions you are on the other side of the cage.

Now we take a closer look at the upcoming Holmgang events and at the potential new champions that will start their career in the organization.

Fight1

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/31/31w21.jpghttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/31/31b26.jpg

Tony Fontana vs. Jerry Cotton

5 years the elder, Tony Fontana is starting his MMA career late, having trained both grappling and boxing in his past his skills will be difficult to bypass, but since we are yet to see any of these fighters go in the ring, we have no idea what their gameplans will be, or how they rate their strenghts. Overall though, Fontana has life experience on his side and whatever happens should be better prepared mentally for this bout.

Being the younger fighter will be an obstacle Jerry cotton has to overcome, but don't think he's going to lay down at the first sign of trouble, having the same background as Fontana I expect him to be able to hang in there regardless where the fight goes, and he might even be able to mount his own offense in the process, who knows?

Fight 2

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/9/9w13.jpghttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/30/30b6.jpg

Jon Fitch vs. King Dro

Now, King Dro has already been in the ring once, unfortunately, even though he dominated the first round, he was on the receiving end of a bone-cracking armbar and had to tap out early in the second round.

Now he will most likely look to strike against Fitch, who is making his professional debut.

Now Fitch probably wont have a problem with striking, he is a muay thai striker and will be going for the knockout.

I see Fitch going for leg kicks while Dro tries to take his head off. Who can implement their style? We'll find out.

In tonight's interview, we sit down with the lightweight Abdul "The Mountain" Magomedov, to talk about his past, present and future in the brutal sport of MMA. The two shake hands and sit down in in the park, Abdul has finished his evening workout and is dripping with sweat.

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/42/42a1.jpg

Abdul "The Mountain" Magomedov

Pro record: 2-0 (1 sub, 1 KO)

Fighting style: Sambo

Height: 174 cm

Weight: 165 lbs

Fights at: Lightweight

Interviewer: So, what got you started in MMA?

Abdul: Well i started fighting since i was young, we Dagestanis are a very combat heavy culture, wrestling and sambo were always my childhood hobbies, and as time went on i found myself to be very good at them, so i decided to go professional

( editor's note: Dagestan is a republic within Russia)

Interviewer: So you have lived around martial arts all your life, is that fair to say?

Abdul: Yes, its definately a part of me

Interviewer: Now, in both your two professional fights you have finished the fights on the ground. Do you feel like you have to learn the striking aspect of MMA? Or is your grappling base strong enough?

Abdul: i feel the striking aspect is very important...and something i am taking very seriously...but i still feel i have a lot to learn in aspects of Brazilian Jujitsu, since we don't have a lot of exposure in that art in our home gyms

Interviewer: that why you left the motherland? To expand your arsenal?

Abdul: Well yes, and ofcourse my bank account.

Abdul throws his head back laughing

Abdul: But seriously speaking, I left my motherland to put Dagestan on the MMA map and the world map...just like a few of my comarades are doing in the UFC like Khabib Nurmagamedov

Interviewer: There has been talks about a fight between you and Kale Van Poika Official word is that the fight is currently being negotiated, What are your thoughts on this matchup? And do you feel you could beat this guy?

Abdul: I feel the match up is a good one, but i'm confident i can beat Poika. Not only am i a more diverse figther, but i approach all my fights in a very unique manner. I'm looking to put on a good show, which i will at the expense of his fight record.

Interviewer: Great, now he comes from a wrestling background, do you feel that you'll have the advantage when it comes to the submission game?

Abdul: I think it really depends on how the fight goes to the ground, and when it does. If i see the opportunity i will go for the submission, but i would be more happier beating him until he quits, or if i get lucky enough to punch him out...i don't want to under estimate him, so we shall see how it goes

Interviewer: Now your nickname, "The mountain" did you get that in the gym, or is there a story behind that?

Abdul: Well that name comes after my patriotic nature, DAG-ESTAN means Land of Mountains...so my nickname also serves as a flag...

Interviewer: what are your goals for the future?

Abdul: my goals are to solidify my fighting skills and be the champion of my division...I understand that it will not be easy, but I don't quit.

Interviewer: Ok last question, what does your parents feel about your descent into the MMA scene?

Abdul: My parents are very proud of me. The attitudes towards combat sports and MMA where I am from is very different from places like Europe and USA...my entire community is very proud and this has been very good for my morale.

Interviewer: Thank you, and good luck

Abdul: Remember my name!

Holmgang release gate figures + an in depth look at the fights that took place monday night

"Man, I just woke up and am now ready to release the gate figures and results from last night's event" Jack Walian, the holmgang CEO, swashbuckler, handwrapswrapper, spit bucket holder and lighting technician stated in a press conference earlier today.

When told it was Wednesday, NOT Tuesday, the visible still hungover Walian excused himself with having taken one too many of the new local favorite holmgang cocktail.

When pressed on the contents of this new official Holmgang drink Walian became unspecific and vague, but rumors say that it contains a liberally applied amount of vodka, and a highly flammable, yet unknown Russian liquid, some unnamed sources claim that this liquid was acquired through some dodgy Russian military contacts. And it has to be mentioned that the explosions heard after the event, are being attributed to this drink being dropped to the floor by unconfirmed reports.

During the short press brief Walian stated that "The PR department has every reason to be happy with themselves" not mentioning the fact that he is the one running the PR department of course, that would be tacky.

That being said he does have a point, a full thirteen hours before the event a grummy looking document promised cheap beer, blood and explosions. And due to the reputation of Wild bob's bar to deliver on all three accounts a stunning 625 people showed up to get drunk and watch someone's skull get caved in.

Walian was modest about this event and claimed that "This was our warm-up show if you will" reporting a 5000$ loss on their first event, yet he was very adamant in saying that their upcoming events would be huge financial successes, and that Holmgang's investors had no reason to fear for their money.

The fights themselves were also spectacular according to Walian, even though he earlier claimed that "all I remember from last night, uuuh, monday, is somebody's tooth lodging itself in my arm rest, somebody puking on my new leather shoes and a referee shouting 'STOP, PLEASE STOP, OH MY GOD STOP' when confronted with this fact however, the offending journalist was tossed out of the press confrence by what can only be described as a walking, talking brick wall and some muffled squelches were heard from outside the hotel room.

Now the first fight was highly anticipated among harcore MMA fans, as the former legend Ripp Arrm was returning from retirement after a five year layoff from professional fighting.

He was facing off against Borre Oppeboen, the finnish russian combat veteran with 28 fights under his belt, who was also coming off a long stint away from MMA, focusing on his remaining brain cells after being on the receiving end of nine (t)ko losses.

Now most people had Ripp arrm as their favorite, an experienced veteran who is a former top three middleweight? No way he could possibly lose to a guy struggling to keep a positive record, was the contention in the room right before the fight.

But they were all proven wrong by Oppeboen, who took Arrm down and demolished him with ground and pound, the former p4p great with 11 submission victories had nothing to show for when taken down by the Finnish monster in front of him. The fight went to a decision, with most of the action on the ground with Oppeboen on top, a deserving decision win for the RC veteran.

The second fight were two rookies barely out of their first training camp.

Both had one fight, and both had one victory, while Vort Under had won his first fight via submission, CJ Aldeberg had grinded his way through his first fight earning a close decision.

Aldeberg who has a purple belt in BJJ and a decent boxing background was tipped as the favorite in this fight, and the bookmakers were not proven wrong, as Aldeberg dominated the fight, landing takedowns and strikes at his will. While he domianted it up until the third round, Aldberg started to feel the pressure as Under, who was breathing like a walruss at this point charged at him and put on an onslaught of submission attempts. Unfortunately, he was neither successful nor able to control the position, and when they once again found their way to the mat Aldeberg grounded and pounded Under to near consciousnesses forcing the ref to stop the fight.

The next fightalso had the underground MMA fans buzzing, the 5-0 Bo Johnson was taking a step up in competition after winning a local tournament, and facing off against the 3-1 simon garfunkle.

The fight was tipped to hit the mat, as they had in their combined nine fights won seven fights by submission.

Garfunkle who holds a brown belt in BJJ was tipped as the heavy favorite, mostly due to his grappling experience, but this night pure BJJ was put to the test against Bo Johnson's excellent submission wrestling pedigree.

After failing a leg lock from guard Johnson who found himself on his back, wasted no time in diving for another submission locking up an inescapable triangle choke, forcing garfunkle to tap earning himself the submission of the night bonus in the process.

The fourth fight had two nearly blank pages facing off against each other, tweny-year old Rocco Kesselring made his professional debut versus submission wrestler Horatius Cocles whose only fight had ended in a quick and destructive knockout with Cocles on the receiving end.

But Cocles had no plans to lay down and cry just for loosing some brain cells, in his Holmgang debut he put on a grappling clinic getting a judo takeown to side control, acquiring the mount and slapping on a guillotine and walking out of the cage in a little less than one minute.

The Co-Main event featured Paul Cicero another former great looking to return to his winning ways against Jaromir Jag a remarkable veteran of over fifty fights, remarkable due to the fact of having won every, single, victory, by desision, and beign finished twenty-four times in his career.

This fight went as expected with Cicero demolishing Jag with ground and pound not one minute into the fight.

The main event was a completely different story, as the Russian veteran Konstantin Khavin took on the Finnish Voitto Vekkiotsamo.

Both fighters had won a majority of their fights via knockout, and the fight was literary a house on fire, due to someone knocking a holmgang cocktail to the ground.

The two warriors did not care however and charged at each other neither man taking a step down and making it an excellent muay thai match rather than an MMA fight.

One could argue that the home crowd favorite Voitto Vekkiotsamo was winning the fight, landing more strikes, completely dominating the second round and being the aggressor, but nobody will remember that.

All they will recall after this fight is Khavin all of a sudden exploding in the clinch and knocking Vekkiotsamo out, creating an uproar in the crowd as their Finnish Hero bounced off the mat. Forcing Khavin to flee the ring as several "fans" started throwing exploding drinks at him.

So there you have it folks, Holmgang's warm up event before they start their first season of what promises to be an explosive and highly intoxicated affair, made not any less dangerous considering the drunk captain at the wheels.

Holmgang announce Gym partnership

A visibly disgruntled Jack Walian was seen leaving the premises of the newly established MMA gym Finnish Boot Camp in a hurry, followed by an entourage of big men with tatoos and scars throwign rose petals in front of him.

Minutes later an email was sent out to every fighter who has currently signed with Holmgang notifying them of this exclusive opportunity to train at a top level gym without the hassle of crowded classes and limited access.

"A gym only for fighters signed to Holmgang" Jack Walian, CEO, announcer, bouncer and camera man for Holmgang said in the press conference that followed.

Reportedly the negotiations were everything, but peaceful, tables were broken, harsh words were said and a rumor is going around that a scuffle broke out between Sung Kim a fighter under the management of the Finnish Boot Camp owner, John Varlianth and Jeff Blatt an alcohol abuser from Walian's stable, all parties deny this, but it has to be said that Blatt's excuse of "walking into a door, and then falling down an elevator shaft" for his missing front tooth and fresh black eye were not completely satisfying to the more observant commentators.

Never the less, somehow an agreement was made and Walian seemed ruffled, but relieved that this ordeal was over.

During the press conference Walian explained that this gym was a limited offer, and initially would only be open to to the first thirty fighters who joined, and would in essence be paid for by Holmgang's coffins.

How he can afford these expenditures after having only one event, which was reported to have run at a loss, is a mystery for many, but a few hours after the press conference Walian was seen handing over a briefcase and a saxophone container in the parking lot outside the gym.

Holmgang CEO: Beginning of season 1 a huge success

"Everything went smoother than a baby's pooper" Jack Walian, the CEO, greaser, ringside physician, judge, soda mixer and drug tester of Holmgang said in the press conference following Holmgang Challengers: 1

Walian reported that the event, which was filled the thousand seat arena The Underground to the brim last night, made a 25 thousand dollar profit and that "this is only the beginning".

And that holds true for a lot of young fighters who appeared on last nights card, but the fight who really stood out from the pack was the professional debuts of two young warriors the fans definitely want to see more from.

Tony Fontana vs Jerry Cotton ended in a split decision, and was dubbed fight of the night by commentators and fans alike, earning both fighters an extra 3000$ to their fight purse.

"This fight was completely crazy, those guys really earned their pay tonight" Walian stated when asked about this fight.

And the fight was truly a barnburner, while being dominant on the mat, Jerry Cotton was visiting a striking clinic when the fight was standing, but every time Fontana started putting the pressure on, he would get taken down. It really was a miracle that neither of them got submitted either, seeing as the two warriors attempted a total of 23 submissions during the fight, but it was in the striking department Fontana came the closest to victory.

Late in the third he made Cotton dance the chicken dance and was close to having the fight stopped when Cotton managed to drag the fight to the ground, and unfortunately for Fontana managed to be saved by the bell.

Other notable fights would be Justin Payne's impressive wrestling display, showcasing his prowess as he put away Lajby Lajos in a couple of minutes earning the knockout of the night award.

Holmgang begins pre-event party 20 hours before event

For some the pain and commitment of others seem to be only a reason to drink and get in fights after the show, one of those people is Jack Walian, the CEO, cleaner, renovator and innovator of the up and coming MMA organization Holmgang.

Today he opened The Underground a full 20 hours before the event promising lots of great fights and drinks "and when time comes for the event, I'm sure that is going to be great too" he said speaking of tomorrow's event Holmgang: The End is Nigh.

Already starting what promises to be a great party/after-party during the press conference, Walian had flaming shots delivered to him and the recently acquired ring girls whom he had strategically in the seats closest to him.

Spending more time trying to undress the unfortunate young "models" with his eyes than answering questions, this was a rather dull press conference, made no less awkward by the homely looking gals Walian had hired, but we did a get a chance to take a closer look at tomorrow's fights and I will give you a short breakdown of all the fights on the card.

Fight 1:

Heavyweight: Sherif Fathy (0-1) vs. Punk Pulian (Professional debut)

The opening fight is sure to be a blast, amateur muai thai sensation Punk Pulian is making his MMA debut against Sherif Fathy, an unassuming wrestler from Egypt who has trained for MMA for quite some time to get ready for this.

Both fighters are looking for their first wins, Pulian is making his debut, but Fathy has one fight under his belt, where he suffered a brutal knockout in the second round.

After disappearing for a few months he is now coming back for more as he takes on yet another seemingly lethal striker, hopefully he has plugged the holes in his game and will be able to avoid being made a heavy bag with limbs.

Fight 2:

Middleweight: Jack Fury (Professional debut) vs. Freddy Powers (Professional debut)

On paper these youngsters are looking very similar, the eighteen year old Jack Fury holds a purple belt in BJJ and claims to be a decent kick boxer, whilst his nineteen year old opponent, Freddy Powers holds a blue belt, but has a background in amateur boxing having placed well in competitions some years back.

Other than that there isn't much to be said about these two, they are unwritten books, blank pages trees about to sprout roots, both are looking to make a statement in this, the beginning of their careers and if all goes well we can see the beginning of something great here tonight.

Fight 3:

Openweight: Jaromir Jag (22-33-2, 0-1 Holmgang) vs. Ripp Arrm (23-6-1, 0-1 Homgang)

In this fight two veterans of the cage clash in an epic battle of forget-me-not's, Jaromir Jag is a veteran of 57 fights, unfortunately well over half of those have been defeats, however he has still managed to become a champion once, and a contender multiple times. Ripp Arrm on the other hand is a legend in the sport gone to seed, having taken a 5 year lay-off from MMA he is not the same devastating grappler that took him to the top echelon of this sport. However he is on his way to recovery and against the grinding machine Jaromir Jag his grappling potential could still shine through.

Fight 4:

Openweight: Juha "Kari" Tappio (15-12-1) vs. Morris "The Maniac" McDonald (19-13-1)

Juha Tappio and Morris Mcdonald seem to be a close fight on paper, with a theoretical advantage going to McDonald on account of him having a slight advantage when it comes to grappling experience.

However, both fighters are high level grapplers who enjoy nothing more than throwing their opponents to the ground and having their way with them. It might not be the most exciting fighting style all of the time, but when McDonald or Tappio is on top and pounding their opponent, they promise that the crowd will go ballistic.

So that is all that can be said here folks, two great grapplers who have nothing to gain from striking will look to throw the other guy down and pound him to submission.

Fight 5:

Openweight: Paul "The Boss" Cicero (16-7, 1-0 Holmgang) vs. "The Lizard King" Jim Morrison (16-20)

Another former great taking his career to the Holmgang veteran openweight division is Paul cicero, "The Boss" was at the height of his career the champion in Blitzkrieg, and now the veteran is looking to reinvent himself and once again feel solid gold strapped around his waist. And while the Holmgang belt is made out of cotton balls and some Electrical tape, he seems just as motivated as if it was really made out of gold.

His opponent Jim Morrison has never tasted such success, and is currently on a eight fight losing streak, he has to turn that around tonight and experts say that his best chance is to strike with Cicero, seeing as Cicero's grappling prowess was what got him famous in the first place.

Fight 6:

Light Heavyweight: CJ "C4" Aldeberg (2-0, Holmgang 1-0) vs. "Torky" Erkki Torkylainen (2-1)

Throughout his very, very shrot career, CJ Aldeberg have relied on his grappling to win his fights, and against Erkki Torkylainen it would be sage advice from his corner to keep doing exactly what he is doing, because even though they are both well rounded, Torkylainen is a dangerous man if you give him the opportunity to pull you into the clinch, and Aldeberg should be pretty desperate to avoid this happening to him.

It is very difficult to predict what will transpire in this event, Torkylainen seems like he is just as well rounded as Aldeberg, so whomever comes in to this fight with the best training camp and preparation is sure to take this one.

Fight 7:

Heavyweight: Adam "Psycho" Bradbury (1-0) vs. Cigano "The Spider" Da Silva (2-0)

Da Silva is a dangerous man, both his fights have ended with vicious one punch knockouts, and when this 25 year old boxer sees a weakness you better tuck your chin unless you want to be put to sleep.

Adam Bradbury on the other hand showed in his debut that he was a well rounded fighter, fighting everywhere at all times, his ground and pound clinic should worry Da Silva slightly, as rumors from his training camp indicate his knowledge of grappling is limited to arm wrestling and that one time he fell in a street fight.

Co-Main Event:

Lightweight: Jack Black (1-1, 1-0 Holmgang) vs. "Goodmorning" Lorenzo Hatemorning (2-0)

In his two fights Lorenzo Hatemorning has sent a message to all his future opponents out there, "Go to the ground with me and I break your arm". Having finished two fights in a little less than three minutes total Hatemorning showed his grappling skill and potential on the regional circuit in Russia, but his next opponents promise us that he will not be tapping out any time soon.

It will be exciting to see what this local favorite has to show against an undefeated grappler from Russia, where they supposedly grapple grizzly bears, but the guys on the street say that his striking will be the most important key to victory in this one, punch the grappler in the face and he will crumble is the hope among those who follow the local MMA scene.

Main Event:

Openweight: "Mean Mugging" John Malham (16-9) vs. Sergei Khripunova (21-10)

It is sort off a grappler vs. striker match up in the main event. Even though both are accomplished and well rounded mixed martial artists, it is undeniable that the BJJ black belt Malham feels the most comfortable on top off his opponents, especially after suffering seven knockout losses in his career.

Khripunova on the other hand, is a world class boxer, and while he has submitted seven opponents throughout his career, all of those came as he was starting out, now that he has developed a high level striking game it is obvious where he wants this fight to take place, on the feet and in Malham's face.

We did two interviews tonight, both were with Holmgang middleweight grand prix participants and they both had one message for their opposition "you will lose"

"We will have a great fight for the fans"

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/39/39b33.jpg

"Wtf" Johnny Michael

Pro record: 2-0 (1 sub)

Fighting style: BJJ

Height: 193 cm

Weight: 180 lbs

Fights at: Middleweight

Interviewer: How did you get into Martial arts?

Michael: When I was 16 or 17, my best friend got interested in MMA and joined a class in Turku. After a couple of months of training he started to teach some tricks to me in our high school's gym and I was hooked. I got a lousy job to get some money and joined the gym myself. Its been a crazy ride since and I have no intent to stop anywhere in the near future!!

Interviewer: For those of us (me) who doesn't know, what's Turku?

Michael: Turku is the 3rd or 4th largest city in Finland, and the place where some of the first finnish mixed martial artist's started to train and fight. One of the first MMA events in Finland was held here, called Finnfight. Some notable fighers who have fought there are David Bielkheden, Tom Niinimäki, Jon Olav Einemo, Joachim Hansen and Alexander Gustafsson

Interviewer: So far in your career you've only shown your ground game, is that something you're looking to change?

Michael: When I first started training, I prefered the ground game and especialy BJJ. It has been the cornerstone of my gameplans this far and it doesn't seem likely I will change that at least just yet. I am aiming to be a complete mixed martial artist so sure I'm always working every aspect of fighting and I'm training hard on my boxing and muay thai too ofcourse!

Interviewer: Now, why did you sign up for the Holmgang Grand prix?

Michael: The first two fight's I had in QFC weren't giving me the real competition I seek. First match went to distance but I would say it was more of my nerves than the skill of my opponent that did that. In my 2nd QFC fight I got to deliver a sweet armbar and I knew I was ready for bigger challenges. So that's when I got the offer from Holmgang and it felt like the right place to continue my career.

Interviewer: Sheng Chung Lin is the opponent in your fight, and reports pin him as a decent wrestler, how do you think that will affect your chances in the fight? Can he avoid your takedowns?

Michael: I know he has good wrestling and some skills in the stand up too. Im sure we will a great fight to the fans! Im pretty confident that the fight will hit the mat at some point and I do feel like my submissions will come on top in that department. I've grappled with some great wrestlers in the gym and I've taken them down almost at will so Chung will have a tough job at keeping this fight standing if thats what he wants to do.

Interviewer: So you feel confident about this fight? Have you been working on your takedowns specifically for this fight, or are you that sure about your wrestling?

Michael: I always prepare myself for the fight in a way that I can be confident when I walk in the ring. I have trained on my takedowns with my training partner Maku Amir, who might be smaller but a beast when it comes to wrestling. If Chung can stuff my takedowns I'm not afraid to try some crazy flying-things either to pull of the submission!

Interviewer: All right, last question, What do you think of the tournament that is set up and what are your plans after you win the holmgang belt?

Michael: I haven't really scouted the other opponents from the tournament yet. I'm 100% confident that Chung is just a stepping stone on my way to winning the tournament and capturing that belt. After I get the belt I will be looking to improve my skills and stomping any challengers put in front of me!

Interviewer: Any last words?

Michael: Tap, nap or snap!!

Holmgang gym partner increase capacity

"We simply had no choice, I was receiving death threats at every hour of the day" Jack Walian, CEO, gift bag-packer, cup-stretcher and handy-man of the up and coming MMA organization Holmgang said in a press brief earlier today.

The gym was opened to Holmgang's fighters only two weeks ago, and the response was immediate, the exclusive gym filled up to the brim almost at once, and now Holmgang officials announce that after tiring negotiations the organization has finally agreed with the owner of Finnish boot camp to increase capacity and hire at least one more coach.

Reports flooded the blogosphere earlier today when profanities and loud bangs were heard from the gym earlier today.

"It was horrible" a source that for his own safety wish to remain anonymous, he does however divulge that he was at the gym training when the negotiations took place.

And it looked for a while that things would take a turn for the worse, reportedly the two business owners got into an altercation and Walian actually had Jack Warlianth the manager of Finnish Boot camp thrown out of his own gym while shouting "I pay your bills, you bum"

Reports on Warlianth's military background does seem to check out, because not 30 minutes after this incidents five black SUVs with american flags on the hood were parked outside and in the scuffles that ensued somehow an agreement was made.

"He made me an offer I couldn't refuse" Said Walian. "We will be looking to expand the gym even further by adding more coaches and allowing for more fighters to join the gym, and this is our best, and only opportunity of doing so"

The new coach, Muay Thai legend Stevie Campbell (55) who until this morning was enjoying a nice quiet life as a gardener in Sussex, was reported missing earlier today by his wife, he was however found leaving a plane in Helsinki escorted by two gigantic men and issued a brief statement that he was "Happy for the opportunity and thanked them for such a generous offer off a cracker and two-" he was however cut off as the two men dragged him out of the airport and into a waiting SUV.

Immortals HQ New York, CEO Steel by video conference to his Helsinki fight adviser Jussi Pekka Seppa, sat with Holmgang heavyweight Marcus Avery.

Steel “Jussi, Marcus you too look well”.

Avery “It’s the coldest place on earth man, makes Birmingham seem like the fuckin tropics, but its OK, just want the chance to fight now. A lot of guys have made their debuts and I just want to get in there, tear someone a new asshole.”

Jussi “Hey Steel, alls good here, Marcus is coming along just fine and it wont be long now before you can tell Jack he is ready to go.”

Steel “Lets not rush these things, and Jack isn’t pushing which is fine with me. Turpin signed with Holmgang today, and he is on his way to you boys now.”

Avery “Fucks sake, a wanna be pikey, thanks boss.”

Steel “Jussi, Randolph’s too big for Jack’s 265 division, so when he gets there you gotta get him under 265.”

Jussi “That’s great news, get another one of your kids out here. Here’s hoping everything works out for you here Steel.”

Steel “The gym looks good, and Jack hasn’t pushed Marcus to fight even though he has exceeded his inactivity clause. I’m thinking sometime mid January we can get them in the cage.

Anyhow, I’ve been to Stockholm, and Goteborg where the chicks are hot, but Ive always been told that Finnish chicks are rough as fuck, that true?”

Jussi “Who told you that?”

Steel “Guys I know in Stockholm.”.

Avery “Bulldog licking piss off a nettle comes to mind boss!”

Steel (laughing) “OK, cool, anyway Turpin lands 10pm tonight your time, I’ve got another appointment now so keep in touch.”

Video conference ends.

Following the post match press conference, a clearly intoxicated Jack Walian, CEO, medical attending, hot dog-seller and media-distributor of the up and coming MMA organization Holmgang had little to say about tonight's event.

In front of a nearly sold-out crowd the Holmgang fighters in action delivered some of the best fights in Holmgang history.

Walian did however state that he was "Looking to take over the Helsinki crown from IMMA and NFC" and that "they have a bulls eye on their backs" however, pundits say that staying relevant will be his main job going forward.

The most anticipated fights of tonight's fight card were the sixteen hopeful middleweights who all had Holmgang's middleweight title in their sights, now only eight remain and we will be taking a closer look at the competitors and how they did in their first fight of the tournament.

Brock "The Rock" Jennings

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/41/41w4.jpg

Professional record: 3-0

Fighting style: MMA-styled grappling

Next opponent: Juan Punchd

Jennings came into tonight's bout with an impressive grappling background, and having finished both his two previous fights with first round submissions he seemed to be a sure win if the fight hit the ground.

And the Australian really impressed the fans in tonight's outing, determined to keep his streak of first round finishes going, Jennings really turned the heat up in towards the end of the first round in his match against Ronnie Hannigan, who was forced to tap out from the vicious ground and pound Jennings was putting on him with only one second left on the clock. Hannigan will surely be disappointed with himself for cracking so late in the round, Jennings however is already looking forwards to the next round.

Juan Punchd

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/9/9b5.jpg

Professional record: 6-0

Fighting style: BJJ

Next opponent: Brock Jennings

The second man out is yet another impressive grappler, this Mexican fighter sports a brown belt in BJJ and has been impressive so far in his young career going undefeated in six straight fights, and was dominant in the tournament that launched his career winning four fights in four days.

After this tournament Punchd has lit a fire underneath both his opponents and is now credited with two first round tkos courtesy of his vicious ground and pound. And it was clear from the beginning that Punchd was boss in his first round fight, getting the takedown immediately he proceeded to unleash vicious face-crunching ground and pound in what would be one of the shortest fights on the card.

"Smooth" Johnny McBride

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/19/19w11.jpg

Professional record: 4-1

Fighting style: Submission wrestling

Next opponent: Sheng Chung Lin

All of McBride's W's have come via submission, and all, bar one has come in the first round, McBride has one message to his opponents as he takes one step further towards the deep end of the pool "roll with me and prepare to tap". McBride is a great submission artist and if he is given the opportunity against Chung Lin will absolutely obliterate the poor guy on the ground by the looks of it, but his challenge will merely be to get the fight there.

His fight was the by far shortest fight of the night, lasting only half a minute before a kimura was slapped into place and his opponent could only do what he was taught in basic training, tap or snap.

Sheng Chung Lin

Professional record: 2-0

Fighting style: Sprawl and brawl

Next opponent: Johnny McBride

A towering middleweight from China, Chung Lin is yet another undefeated prospect putting everything on the line in the chase of that glorious middleweight title.

Seeing as he sports an excellent wrestling background one might think that Chung Lin would chose to focus on the ground game, however he is taking a different approach using the techniques from his years of wrestling to destroy his opponents in the clinch, the guy has destructive knees and showcased some tonight as he destroyed Johnnie Michael in a six minute beatdown. Chung Lin will be very difficult to deal with for anyone who wishes to take the fight down, as Michael got to experience as all his takedown attempts were duly stuffed in tonight's fight.

Kid Comeback

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/30/30w41.jpg

Professional record: 2-0

Fighing style: Submission fighting

Next opponent: Yunus Abshir

The amount of grapplers who are fighting in the second round is really staggering, and Comeback added himself to the pack in a no way humble or discrete way as he finished his fight in a little under a minute while adding his second professional victory to his record. A great prospect with a bright future, but a very troublesome opponent for his second round bout.

Yunus Abshir

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/43/43b6.jpg

Professional record: 1-1

Fighting style: Somalian stick wrestling

Next opponent: Kid Comeback

The dark horse of the tournament one could say, coming in with only a loss on his resume, many were quick to write off this young African martial artist, he proved anyone with doubts wrong though as he spent about fifteen minutes turning the judges onto his odd style of disruptive skipping maneuvers and onslaught of not so very accurate punches. However he showed strength and determination coming through the fight the victor, and I think we have just seen the beginning of a great legacy being built.

Alessandro Maximilian

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/39/39w10.jpg

Professional record: 2-0

Fighting style: Muay Thai

Next opponent: Unknown

Alessandro Maximilian has been really confident coming into this tournament, his manager touting him as the big favorite to win the tournament and tonight he showed why.

Coming off a first round knockout in his debut, tonight Maximilian got to test his cardio, chin and bone density as he went the full fifteen minutes against Marcello Cobretti a great Canadian wrestler who took Maximilian on to deep waters in the grappling department, but Maximilian persevered and put on a striking clinic whenever he got the chance earning him the decision win.

Unknown

Professional record: Any

Fighting style: Wing chun?

Next opponent: Alessandro Maximilian

If everything had gone according to plan Abdallah Said would be the one competing in the second round, after a dominating win in the first, but after his win Said did not show up to the press conference after the event and has not been returning his calls, rumors of a personal crisis back in Oman are surfacing alongside rumors of Jack Walian having put a bounty on his and his managers heads. More updates as the story unfolds.

Make Amir 3-0 (2-0 holmgang ) vs. Simon Garfunkle 4-2 (1-1 Holmgang)

The undefeated submission wrestler Maku Amir is now standing in front of the biggest challenge of his career, as he takes on the more experienced Simon Garfunkle in the opening bout of this event.

Having sailed through his first two Holmgang bouts with relative ease Amir is expected to rely on his unexpected knockout power which was briefly displayed in his last fight against Jack Kowalski to win him this fight.

Simon Garfunkle, while not undefeated, the BJJ brown belt made a valiant comeback in his last fight to score a first round submission over Ron McDanzig and looks to get the fight down to use his BJJ experience to get the win bonus and possibly the submission of the night bonus.

Trent Williams 0-2 (Holmgang debut) vs. Josh Ball 1-3 (0-2 Holmgang)

In the second bout neither fighter looks that impressive when you look at their resume, a combined five losses in six fights is not the ideal start for a young fighter's career, however Jin Sen famously started his career with four straight losses before taking off, so there is still hope.

Trent Williams who is still chasing his career's first victory has yet to see the second round in a professional fight, and even though he claims striking to be his strong point, has only landed a single punch throughout his fighting career. That being said, if it is true that he is a decent striker, then Josh Ball is the perfect opponent in many ways, all losses via first round knockouts, he does however sport a brown belt in BJJ so this fight will revolve around who can dictate where the fight ends up.

Marcello Cobretti 0-1 (0-1 Holmgang) vs. Max Birchhood (Professional debut)

Not a lot to be said for this fight, two relatively blank pages, Birchhood sports an impressive amateur kick boxing record, while Cobretti was at one point touted to be a future Olympian in wrestling in his home country Canada. After turning to MMA however he has trained extensively in multiple styles to fill out his holes and will be once again treading the water after his disastrous debut in the Holmgang middleweight grand prix.

Jorma Soini 0-1 (Holmgang debut) vs. Erik Gudjonsen 0-1 (0-1 Holmgang)

Both these next fighters share something in common, they are both coming off their first professional fight, and they both suffered a loss in their debuts.

Both of them would like to earn their first career win, and pushing the other guy further down the ladder.

The norwegian Erik Gudjonsen is following in the tradition of many Norwegian mixed martial artists, getting the fight down and forcing the tapout, claiming a purple belt in BJJ there is no question what he plans to do in this fight, the question however is if he can get past the wrestling of the Finnish Soini, who will look to keep the fight standing at all costs, making this another one of those fights, where whoever decides where the fight takes place will be the victor.

Gerard Link 2-0 (1-0 Holmgang) vs. Rimbon Gracie 4-1 (1-1 Holmgang)

Coming off a first round TKO in his Holmgang debut, Gerard Link must be feeling confident as ever in his hands when he steps into the cage with Rimbon Gracie.

Towering over most guys in the division, Link must keep his limbs tucked in this one, as his crazy reach might work against him if the fight goes to the floor, and that is exactly where Gracie wants to take it.

Having won all four of his victories via submission, Gracie's rear naked choke started to become legendary in the underground dutch MMA community, somethat that most likely turned some heads over at Holmgang as well resulting in a contract and the a huge opportunity for the 21 t

Andraej Drakorov (Professional debut) vs. Lev Tolsoy 1-1 (0-1 Holmgang)

Macadam Baird 2-0 (1-0 Holmgang) vs. Ben Richards (Professional debut)

Running tournaments is never easy, and sometimes fighters drop out either due to injury, personal problems or not being able to cope with the competition, luckily in this case Ben Richards was clamoring for an opportunity to compete in the tournament and jumped on it once given the chance.

He is not getting an easy task however as he faces off against undefeated Macadam Baird, an excellent wrestler with a vicious ground and pound game.

Even though he is untested, reports on Richards says he is a fair wrestler himself, and that he may even possess abilities to match those of Baird, however that we will be seeing a wrestling match tonight is really out of the question, the only question that remains to be seen is who can assert their dominance early.

Daniyel Nebi 2-0 (1-0 Holmgang) vs. Ndamukong Beats 2-1 (1-0 Holmgang)

By knocking out the prominent striker Ron McDanzing with such ease in the first round, Daniyel Nebi surely must have turned some heads in the light heavyweight division, the Muay Thai prodigy showed a very deep toolbox in the striking department and will surely look to send the same blitzkrieg in the direction of Ndamukong Beats' jawline.

Beats on the other hand will most likely do anything in his power to avoid the lethal striking abilities of Nebi and will instead do the same as he did in his last fight, get the takedown and stick on his opponent like glue.

Who will win? The ground and pounder or the striker? Personally I say the fans, as this should be one hell of a fight

Nameless One 22-14 (0-1 holmgang) vs. Ted Danielson 12-8 (0-1 Holmgang)

Having suffered twelve knockouts in his career, Nameless One's flaw is more of a rift at this point, and odds are against him as he goes up against a man who seemingly only wins by knockout in Ted Danielson, .

There is hope however, in Danielson's holmgang debut, Pekka Lipponen a man who seemingly gets knocked out when he stubs his toes, was able to wrestle himself a decision against Danielson, and as I said before, therein lies the answer, One's only shot will be going for the takedown and of course, getting it, anything else will only be prolonging the inevitable rushed drive to the hospital

Johny Do 19-23 (Holmgang debut) vs. Ilham Aliyev 25-11-2 (0-1 Holmgang)

Having just broken a four fight winning streak, Ilham Aliyev is clamoring for revenge as he takes on Johny Do, repeatedly stating he wants a rematch with Og Kush a win here tonight will put him an enormous step towards that goal.

However, he must not take Do lightly, as he has won nine of his twelve last fights. This olympic level wrestler's main strategy is the grind, putting his opponent on their back and punching said opponent in the face repeatedly. and although he does have some submissions on his record, I highly doubt he will get one against a BJJ black belt in Aliyev.

I expect Do to get the takedown and start going for a knockout with Aliyev throwing caution to the wind and his hip through the air as he looks for that sweet sweet submission.
