  1. For me it's the matchmaking. It may be exactly because these guys are in a "minor league" promotion, but it seems like they go out and put it all on the line every time. The FotN bonus was 10k and went to one of the dark matches LOL, the Ox Wheeler fight. I don't doubt that any of the WEC guys would get eaten alive by Penn, or Diego, or Florian...hell, even Guida. It may indeed happen that once everyone has fought each other and had their rematch and title shot, that the matchups will get stale and the WEC will lose its luster. And if they had shown another UD fight or 2, I might not have liked it so much; they may have just gotten lucky that they had Mike Brown and Mark Hominick with a couple 1st round wins to plug in to the telecast. For free MMA though, WEC puts on a far better show than the UFNs do. Sadly, now they're talking about putting Aldo vs Hendo for the first WEC ppv, which I can't really see myself buying

    Specific techniques

Rather than learning the advanced chokes individually, I would make it a group of Advanced maneuvers which would have their own triggers in the sim and fight pbp. Each primary would have their own new "Advanced" Secondary. How they're manifested in the sim could be governed by a slider for basic/advanced. At its root, it will be adding another tier of low success rate/high payoff skills to the game. The skill would help determine the success rate of the Advanced moves, preventing it from being a purely cosmetic use of a slider to generate different pbp outputs. Using your example, Advanced BJJ would be another Secondary, drawing on appropriate Physical and Primary skills. A bjj player would access different chokes and submissions from the new pool as they favor Advanced BJJ on the slider. Submission offense would still be effective and necessary, containing the basic submissions, armbars, RNC, triangles, etc. Adv. BJJ could have the more technical ones like your omoplatas, darce and of course, my favorite...the flying gogo. If the guy had his advanced bjj slider maxed out, he could end up sitting in rubber guard trying to throw a bunch of subs that don't hit, where a basic sub might have worked. It would require some new 'move' descriptions in the sim, or some old ones being taken from the basic bjj pool and put in the advanced one. Shouldn't be overly complex though, since if it's governed by a slider it's either one or the other. Run it through whatever checks are needed in the sim ie success rate of move, chance of defense working vs it, and voila! Flying gogo A MT player could have either advanced MT strikes, or something as different as European kickboxing style moves, since Euro kickboxing is not represented at all in this game. Flying knees, spinning backfist, and others could be included in Adv. MT...again governed by a slider to differentiate moves with a high percentage vs low percentage of success An advanced Boxer would access I don't know what? Additional combos? Bob and weave to avoid or mitigate damage? An adv. wrestler would access new throws, slams, takedowns, positioning? This could be another good use of the "experienced" attribute as well, to identify that an Advanced maneuver is being set up or likely to be used on you and help you defend, or identify that the combo you just landed is an ideal time to try a flying knee, etc. I think this would be a fairly major undertaking to integrate into the sim in a balanced way, but also think that the game is going to have to expand the choices either via more Secondaries or new Primaries such as making Euro Kickboxing or Judo their own thing, as even with the number of Secondaries we have everyone is eventually going to look similar. When all players have access to the same pool of maneuvers, all you're dealing with is grinding to Elite to hope you can pull yours off before the other guy gets his. This method would allow another level of guesswork. Is the brown belt you're facing Wonderful in Advanced BJJ or Wonderful in Advanced Wrestling? Should you be worried more about a high level choke or getting slammed with a high level throw? Plus it would add 4 more coach types, making gym owners choose even further what areas they want to focus on. Anyway, +1 to this guy's idea, lets see if anyone comes up with something better. Cheers!

    Morale

+1 I'm in favor of this too. A simple line right below the % energy notation in the fighter breakdown would be perfect. No major format change, nothing cumbersome or obtrusive. Easy as pie.
  4. Congrats man, takes balls big as church bells to do that. Much respect.
  5. I was a little undecided, but now it's for sure. The WEC is now my favorite org to watch for quality matchmaking. It may be that the little guys are cardio machines on a level that the heavier weight classes can't match, but even the no-names come out and bang, and give good fights. They started off with Mackens "Who???" Semerzier vs. Deividas "Who???" Taurosevicius going the distance. Tauro was pretty strong and kinda bullied Mackens with wrestling and takedowns, won a UD. The second fight was Mike Brown vs Anthony Morrison. Morrison facing some serious competition for a young guy, and Brown facing a tough kid who could really set him back if he loses. Brown pushes Morrison to the cage, takes him down, softens him up with some punches from a crucifix then after a short scramble takes Morrison's back, RNC victory in less than 2 minutes. Third fight, Dave Jansen vs Kamal Shalorus. Shalarus is 37 but he's an Olympic caliber wrestler, and it showed. Jansen got stuffed constantly and it pretty much was rock'em sock'em robots as Shalorus won the standup and didn't allow anything else to occur. Shalorus by UD. Fourth, Mark Hominick vs Brian Caraway in a time-filler since the Brown fight ended so quick. Hominick looked quite sharp and slapped a first round armbar on Caraway. Next, Uriah 'the California Butt-chin' Faber vs Rafael Assuncao. Faber really looked back to his old form, dynamic and powerful, lots of action and transitions and puts Rafael out by RNC in the 3rd round. Main event, Jamie 'Tin Man' Varner vs Ben Henderson. Varner came out looking sharp also after a year off. Henderson kept running into front headlocks from his takedown attempts but Varner couldn't make anything of them. Varner throwing punches, Henderson throwing kick after kick. Every clinch seems to have Varner doing better. Varner is more aggressive. Henderson more concerned with fixing his hair and kicking, rather than trading punches with Varner, then out of nowhere he lets Varner inside on a shot, jumps into an arm-in guillotine and Varner, still standing, taps within 3 seconds. Henderson thanks Jesus and his team for the win, will face whoever WEC says to fight next, happy to fight Cerrone again. Varner, not content with losing his belt, makes a typical asshole comment in the postfight interview. To the chorus of boos he lets loose with "I was winning that fight...I came to fight, Ben came to grapple, two different things." Which is in fact, true, but man keep that guy away from a microphone, everything that he says comes out in the punkiest possible way. All in all, a great night of fighting, well worth the space on the DVR. Versus and Spike are p4p the worst for volume of commercials, so fast forward is your friend!
  6. Just looking at the comparisons, he's going to trust his wrestling to keep it on the feet, and try to break any clinch to keep it at range and strike from there. He won't wrestle and try to GnP a purple belt. You won't train enough boxing or wrestling to give yourself the edge in time for the fight. If it were my guy, I'd recommend doing a crash course on MT and clinchwork, go for the clinch and try to get a takedown from there. You're a pure bjj guy and he's a pure striker, so I'd have to guess that your Takedowns and his TDD will be roughly equal. If you can get a 2 level advantage on his MT, you can hope to counter his Wrestling advantage, protect yourself from his range striking and have a good chance of taking him down into your world. Once you have a good MT advantage, a Wrestling spar would be icing on the cake, if you have time. On the ground you'll want to throw those subs, because he's going to be all about position and standing up. That's my 2 cents
  7. Also, each training type takes different amounts of Energy. Cardio takes the most and yoga the least, with the others in between. Your conditioning level will determine the amount each category will take, so a Cardio session at Superb will take less energy than it took the same fighter at Abysmal.
  8. ...from the bottom We're charging hard to become the largest gym in Amsterdam...150 members in just under 1 week...but the new sort-by-price sent us to the last spot of the HighStreet listings in Amsterdam. No worries, you guys know where to find us! Plenty of single-digit sparring sessions available and, as always, the best possible facilities in the 'dam! See ya there!
  9. -1 One of the first lessons you learn is to not get too attached to your fighters. You can nurture them for weeks or more and find out they're mentally retarded or cut easily, then no matter how much you love the name, they're on the scrap heap. When you buy a free agent, you buy the whole package, name, bank account, win/loss record...the works.
  10. I think the problem is the 3 straight sparring sessions. When you do more than 2 straight, you'll get the famous "diminishing returns" mail. Make sure you don't put 3 in a row again and you should be fine.
  11. To be honest, I didn't even see sub of the year at all, I may have been fast-forwarding too fast. Just like TUF and all the Fight Nights, anything on Spike I assume is going to be 50% commercials so I fast forward faaaaast.
  12. Now that I do agree with. Definitely better, even just by merit of eliminating full gyms from consideration and getting them out of the way.
  13. Just watched it on Tivo, it was pretty much a UFC showcase, a couple WEC things got nominated but didn't win, no other org even mentioned, not even for ring girl of the year Weepy tribute to Mask, Diego Sanchez drunk off his ass to receive an award, Cris Cyborg as a brunette and looking rather feminine, and Arianny with Dress of the Year award voted by me. A couple pretty funny vignettes in between the award presentations, like "Randy Couture-Divorce Lawyer" and "Kimbo-flex" If you're a Dana/UFC hater, it'll be hell on you. Only an hour long so I guess worth watching.
  14. Ya, I took this change as the first step of several...if this was all he intended then it was kinda...meh. Sorting ascending/descending by price range would be great. Would also like to see sorting by coach. It would probably need its own page though, might be too cumbersome to handle directly off High Street. Dropdown list of coaches by Primary type, sort would yield all coaches in that city teaching that Primary, maybe then a tickbox to add/remove skill levels (Elite, Sensational, etc.) to reduce the yield. I imagine Secondary sessions would be a bit much, esp given that they can be changed on a whim, unless there was a quick and dirty way to parse all the scheduled Secondary sessions often enough to keep it updated. Used in conjunction with price list, the coach sort would get you in the right range for your purposes eg. I need a Wrestling coach who doesn't have to be elite but Wonderful or better, for less than 300. Or I need a gym with at least Boxing MT and Wrestling elites, min price 550 to eliminate all the scrub gyms from consideration. Or just sort ascending/descending by price range would be great
  15. Ideally you'd work your Cardio and Primaries at a low cost gym, then move to an Elite gym to improve Primaries and secondaries with small session sparring and coaching sessions. If you're already at a 350 gym, get your cardio to a basic level and get as much Elite training as you can before you run out of money. When you get low on cash, there are always low-cost options where you'll end up working your fitness and sparring. You're not in my city or I'd shill for Peak Condition, but I'm sure New York has something similar. If the sparring sessions are overcrowded at your elite gym, check the coaching sessions. If the coaching sessions are overcrowded, check for sparring. 12 people packed in an Elite coach isn't going to do as much good as you'd like.
  16. Weekly fees come out at 10:55pm GMT each Thursday. If I'm not certain that I'm going to be around to quit my gym after the 9pm GMT daily session on a Thursday and before the fee process at 10:55, I will sometimes just work my schedule so I have one or two rest sessions on Thursday. Then I can quit my current gym Wed PM or Thurs AM (whenever I know I'm gonna be around), let the rest sessions run without a gym and wait til the weekly fee process is complete. Then any time after 10:55pm Thurs, I join my new gym of choice. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy
  17. +1 for at least taking another look at Knees
  18. Injuries? 3 of your guys have 3 day injuries, and one has 7 days.
  19. In just over 5 days, Peak Condition Fitness of Amsterdam has blown through the century mark, with well over 100 fighters developing at our facility. Sincere thanks to our members and the community at large for supporting this endeavour. To all new players, veterans, and anyone considering joining: There will always be room at Peak Condition Fitness for new members; no caps, no limits, no BS. I'll keep the gym at Pristine cleanliness and the equipment Brand New no matter what, so EVERY member enjoys the full benefits of the Peak Condition experience. Stop by and see for yourself, you'll like what you find! Cheers!
  20. Don't use supps on resting days, they're only useful when used in conjunction with the right activity. If you have the box checked while you rest, they'll still get used up, but won't benefit you in any way. Muscle supp only on Weight days, Stamina only on Cardio days, and Recovery on all other active training days. Haven't done Circuit training so someone else would have to recommend for that one The only supps to take on rest days would be Weight Loss/Weight Gainers. Cheers!
  21. I loved watching that fight, he brutalized the guy from the clinch and stuffed his takedowns like I suggested, then finished him with a highlight reel KO from range like the other guys suggested. Picture perfect win!
  22. Man I'm interested to see how this is going to shake out. On the one hand, if someone creates a successful org and wants to bankroll a gym for themselves and their buddies, how can you tell them no? On the other hand, I have zero intention of signing for a fight with someone who came up that way. I would almost recommend a league-type structure, where people who have had all that very specialized training can fight amongst themselves in one league, and get all the "prestige" or whatever they're looking for by steamrolling people with lab-created beasts. Then a "minor-league" which contain the impoverished unwashed masses (like myself), kinda like how they had UFC/Pride, then IFL, then cagefights out back behind Crazy Bob's Barbeque and Package Liquor. How people would get divided into leagues I have no clue, nor do I know if each city would have league tiers or if, say, Vegas became big-boy land and developing fighters would be banished to Helsinki or, god-forbid, LA. Anyway, will be watching thread to see what comes of this. Like Mike said, whatever you decide, something needs to be done and it's better to piss off a few people now than a few hundred later.
  23. In the time Strength went from Feeble to Superb with one of my guys, Speed had exactly one gain from Feeble to Mediocre. Creation is the way to go.
