There's no question Randy's clinch was world class on Saturday. But wrestling involves taking an opponent to the ground and getting into a dominant position. Which Randy didn't do. Randy was only in the advantage position because he had Vera against the cage. That clinch work your talking about was all defensive. Couture didn't make one move to advance his position once he got Vera against the cage.

Vera did enough damage to hurt Couture twice. Comparatively, Couture did zero damage. I'm not saying Vera dominated the match. It was about as boring a 15 minutes as I've seen in a cage in a long time. But I was watching the fight with a match maker and a girl that works for Spike on TUF, and I've talked to other analysts that watched the match, and none of us can believe that Couture won. It was a piss poor fight from both fighters. But the general consensus is that Vera should have taken the win.

I think the 7 Day Clothing Sales is great. If there's time for the effort, a best selling items would be nice. See what T-shirt is selling best, or what nutrition supplement is doing best.

That's actually a really good idea. I'd love to see Mark DellaGrotte (Team Sityodtong in Boston) coach a team against like American Top Team or something. Maybe get Matt Hughes' fight camp involved. That would actually be really interesting. The problem is, a lot of these coaches don't just have their pro team, they also run a public gym, and have their own classes they teach on top of training pros. Taking the time out to shoot TUF may not be feasible for a lot of those guys. But still a great idea.

First of all, its not the UFC 10 point system. Its the 10 point system administered by each state's athletic commission (or equivalent) as prescribed under the Unified Rules, which were developed by the Nevada SAC, and adopted by all states that currently sanction MMA. Secondly, its a system built for boxing, and it doesn't work for MMA. On top of that, just because you can see how the judges awarded a win to a fighter based on the 10 pt must doesn't validate anything. The fact that a fighter can win a fight by simply hugging his opponent exposes the flaws. When you judge the fight based on the overall fight, the way some Japanese fights are judged, the fight, I think clearly goes to Vera. Vera was the only fighter to score damaging blows, or advance position. Couture never got out of neutral. And when a fighter fails to create any offense in a fight, he shouldn't win. Offense wins, Couture had no offense, therefore, he should not have won. All that being said, there have been four major examples of how judges fail to accurately judge fights just this year. Two in the UFC (Machida/Rua & Couture/Vera) and two in the UWC in Virginia (Beebe/Easton a few weeks ago and a fight back in April). Nobody involved with MMA, promoters, fighters, analysts, like the 10 point must. The major consensus is that "its the best we got, but we need better". And Saturday's main event was just another example.

I never dealt with The Ryland Factor, I spent most of my time on the EWBattleground forum, and was a big fan of EW Revenge, which made the transition to WMMA easier. I'd like to see someone put together a solid 1 player text based sim. This site is great. But I'm really impatient, I can sit and sim through 3 or 4 years in a single session. This MMORPG stuff just takes too long for me.

Sorry, what fight were you watching? Randy did absolutely ZERO damage during the fight. All he did was own "cage control". He out hugged Vera. They both neutralized each other equally. Randy scored one takedown, and Vera was back up right away. Vera scored some serious strikes, but wasn't able to get out of the grapple. That fight was a draw, neither fighter worked to end the fight, and neither fighter dominated. And Randy sure as hell didn't "take the fight no question". That fight was a perfect example of the flaws in the 10 point must, and how fighters can get cheap wins with the points system.

Yeah. She said in a vlog post after the fight that Coenen claims she was sick before their first fight, and Roxy says she didn't play her game this fight, so it sounds like she's looking for a rubber match. Still, a lot of people who watched the promo videos running up to the fight were impressed with the way she carried herself, so hopefully she'll get more fight offers. I'm hoping to get the interview wrapped up today so I can post it.

Agreed. 29-28 to Vera. Did a ton of damage with the feet. But just couldn't break the clinch. Randy wasn't doing any damage, but I guess they gave him the win for neutralizing Brandon's stand-up. Was impressed with Pearson & glad Bisping got back on track.

I had it 29-28 to Vera. Randy didn't execute his game plan, because he never got Vera on his back. Hugging him against the cage and not doing damage shouldn't win a fight. Vera was the only fighter doing any damage, or trying to finish the fight. And even if Randy gave up on the takedown, he was still taken down. Its not like you get to say to the judges "Don't count that one, I wasn't trying." Overall, it was a good fight. Great job by Bisping who reminded us that yes, he is in fact a professional fighter.

I got turned on to MMA during Griffin/Bonnar. I was watching it at a buddy's fire house in their bar, and during that 15 minute war, just said "Yeah, this is something that can keep my attention." Since then I've been lucky enough to sit ring/cage side for three MMA events, and I'm credentialed for four or five more this winter. I was at the 2nd pro MMA event in PA, and the 1st in the metro-Philadelphia area. I've gotten to know some local fighters, and I'm getting to know some other writers & photographers. I can talk fights for a week, and not mention one UFC fighter. I just got done interviewing Roxy Modaferri, I'm waiting for my laminate to a fight with Wilson Reis & Tara LaRosa on the card, and I'm really anxious to see this kid Jim Hettes fight later this month. So as serious MMA fans, we really need to get out there and support the local promoters. Great fights can happen anywhere. They don't just happen on UFC cards. One of the best fights I've seen was at a local fight. Mike Pierce and Paul Bradley. 15 minutes of just dudes punching each other in and around the mouth. One of my favorite fighters, Leo Pechana, hasn't had a fight bigger than an RIE main event (2nd round win over Aaron Meisner via mata leao). And for me, its not just about getting out and seeing the fights. Its about doing something to promote the fights. I run a regional MMA blog. I cover Asylum Fight League and Ring of Combat more than I cover UFC. So if you've got a camera, or can write, man. Get out there and do something. The regional & local scene needs your help.
