  8. INFAMOUS 1 Preview The newly merged and renamed Infamous Fighting Championship will put on its first show on Friday night from the Las Vegas Hard Knocks. As has been stated by the new ownership there will be title unification bouts at all relevant divisions and the first one will take place on this first card. Elbows Fisticuff (6-3) vs. Anderson Ruas (4-0): 135lbs. The first IFC show will be anchored by a bout between Bantamweights Elbows Fisticuff and Anderson Ruas. The records of these two fighters lead to some interesting conclusions. All four of Ruas’ victories have come by way of decision. Meanwhile all six of Fisticuffs victories have come via knockout with four of those victories coming by way of head kick. This fight will be determined by which fighter can implement their gameplan and enforce their will on the other. The winner will entrench himself in the thick of the 135lbs. division in the IFC. Osgar MacGregor (4-0) vs. Connor Cozad (4-0): 145lbs. Title The first title unification bout will be for the Featherweight Title when the EFC Champion Osgar MacGregor takes on SCFL Champion Connor Cozad. Both men built up identical 4-0 records in their respective organizations and when they meet on Friday night somebody’s 0 will go. Three of MacGregor’s wins have come via (T)KO whereas two of Cozad’s wins have come by way of submission. One could expect that each man will be looking to finish this fight in the manner which they are most accustomed to doing. MacGregor will look to test Connor’s chin; meanwhile, Cozad will be looking to test out Osgar’s BJJ chops and see if it’ll be snap or tap. Leon Czolgosz (4-1) vs. Butch Williams (2-0): 170lbs. The fight between Leon Czolgosz and Butch Williams will almost certainly be fought predominantly on the mat as both fighters have a proclivity for pulling off submission victories. Leon has the better wrestling and if/when this fight goes to the mat he will likely be on top; however, Butch Williams has the more accomplished BJJ resume so it will be interesting to see if he can sweep to gain to position. This fight will probably come down to who has the better defensive grappling. I expect one of these men to walk away with a submission victory. Jason Williams (3-1) vs. BJJ Submaster (3-1): 170lbs. The welterweight bout between Jason Williams and BJJ Submaster will likely be determined by whether the Submaster shows up. If he does he will almost certainly get a choke, or rip an arm or a leg. If he is lackluster though he will play right into Williams’ hands as Jason would like nothing more than to be able to grind out another listless decision victory. Noah Qualls (1-2) vs. Brooks Staal (2-2): 155lbs. The lightweight match between Noah Qualls and Brooks Staal will be a striker verses grappler battle with Qualls looking for a submission and Staal looking for the knockout. Qualls has the better wrestling so he will be looking to drag this fight to the floor and coax a tap from his foe. To do that though he will need to wade in and put his chin at risk as he faces a talented striker in Staal who has knockout power. If Staal can put a crisp shot on Qualls he could well turn out his lights. Walt Roofer (3-1) vs. JanOle Stafjard (3-2): 145lbs. When Walt Roofer and JanOle Stafjard meet in a featherweight match one can expect to see some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on display. Roofer has a significant striking advantage; however, he has not shown in the past a desire to use it. He would be well advised to do so in this fight because if this fight goes to the ground he will be in trouble facing the more adept ground fighter in Stafjard. If JanOle is successful in getting this fight to the floor it shouldn’t take long for him to pull off a submission but what happens between that will almost assuredly be entertaining. John Shepherd (4-1) vs. Tiberias Rockefellor (6-4): 185lbs. This middleweight bout between John Shepherd and Tiberias Rockefellor is a sleeper candidate for fight of the night. Shepherd will enter this fight coming off of his first career loss. Meanwhile Rockefellor is on a four fight winning streak. Do not be surprised if this fight goes to the ground. And if it does expect to be entertained by two men that are comfortable grappling; while having the more impressive BJJ resume do not just assume that Shepherd will get the submission as Rockefellor is no slouch on the mat himself. This fight could be decided by who winds up with top position on the ground. Chuito Torres (2-3; 1NC) vs. Zhou Li Fu Chao (0-0): 135lbs. The first bout in the history of the IFC will pit Chuito Torres against MMA neophyte Zhou Li Fu Chao. Torres does not stand out in any one area. He has never finished a fight; however, in Chao he may find an opponent unprepared to go to the floor if Torres chooses to put the fight there. Chao will enter the MMA arena for the first time with impressive Boxing credentials, and will no doubt be looking to knockout Chuito Torres and put an exclamation mark on his pro debut.
