  1. Hell may be freezing over, because Pat Miletich and Dana White may make nice very soon. Miletich recently told MMAInsider that he's working with White to arrange a meeting between them in the coming weeks. The famed trainer and UFC head honcho have been on the outs for years after a litany of slights, real and perceived, between them over the course of eight years in the industry. Miletich reportedly washed his hands of White in 2006 after being promised a coaching spot on the third season of "The Ultimate Fighter," only to see Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock take the job. But time heals wounds, and a lot of time heals really bad wounds. Things may be turning around. LINK
  2. A groin injury Georges St. Pierre sustained in his battle with Thiago Alves will not sideline him for as long as expected, manager Sherri Spencer announced in a press release Saturday. The 28-year-old UFC welterweight champion was in the third round of his third title defense at UFC 100 when the injury occurred. "I don't remember exactly, but when I was on the bottom, in my guard, and Thiago pushed my knee down and I heard my groin, my abductor snap," said Pierre at the post-fight press conference. "I heard a noise and it was pretty bad." St. Pierre reported the trouble between rounds to trainer Greg Jackson, who had choice words for the champ in maintaining composure. "(Jackson) says to me, 'I don't care! Hit him with it!'" continued St. Pierre. "So I was like I guess I have to go back there and finish the fight. That's the gameplan." LINK
  3. Currently not all fighters are tested at each event. Some are selceted at random
  4. Keith Kizer, Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, on Friday released post-fight drug test results for UFC 100, which took place on July 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Thirteen athletes were tested for performance enhancing substances and drugs of abuse: Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Georges St. Pierre, Thiago Alves, Dan Henderson, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Jon Fitch, Jon Jones, Mark Coleman, Jim Miller, Dong Hyun Kim, Tom Lawlor, and Shannon Gugerty. All athletes tested negative. LINK
  5. “I’m very thankful for Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta from the UFC and I’m glad that me and Dana (White) kind of got to brush each other off. We may not still like each other or whatever but we came to amends — which is awesome. I gotta thank Strikeforce for giving me an opportunity and I want to thank Affliction for giving me an opportunity.” –Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and current Zuffa exile Tito Ortiz tells TapouT Radio that while he still won’t be exchanging Christmas cards with the UFC President, he and Dana White have patched things up after many years of back-and-forth squabbling. 6. World Victory Road (WVR) recently announced the first handful of participants for it’s Sengoku 10 event, which takes place at the Saitama Community Arena in Saitama, Japan, on September 23. The first (and last) Elite XC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva (12-1), UFC veteran Joe Doerksen (41-12) and former IFC lightweight champion Ryan Schultz (20-11-1) are the participants scheduled for Sengoku 10, though all pending opponents are to be announced at a later date. Silva last competed at Sengoku “Rebellion” this January, where he picked up a quick and easy win over Yoshihiro Nakao who came up lame with a knee injury just one minute into the bout and had to forfeit. “Bigfoot” has been targeted as one of the focal points (along with Josh Barnett) for a yet to be announced mini-heavyweight tournament, so a good outing at Sengoku 10 should keep him in the running for that while a loss may not. 7. Yushin Okami (24-4-0) vs. Chael Sonnen (24-10-1) set for UFC 104 according to UFC Japan. Here is how the rumored card is looking so far: - Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua - Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez - Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen - Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer - Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida - Pat Barry vs. Antoni Hardonk - Rob Kimmons vs. Jorge Rivera - Razak Al-Hassan vs. Kyle Kingsbury LINK
  8. Mike Swick talking to Steve Cofield (transcript via Fight Opinion): Everyone I know obviously we’ve talked to after the fight you know hates him. Like you said they want to see him fight again. He does have the ‘it factor’ for sure. I mean everybody wants to see him fight again. I’d like to see him fight Cain my teammate you know or Shane Carwin or some of these other guys because I don’t think he’s technically a top fighter... I mean he’s going to sell PPVs and he’s going to a big draw but I just hope you know the newer breed of fighters coming up don’t look at him and try to be like that. I mean we’re not WWE. You know, we’re a different organization. The two big differences between us and WWE are the facts that you know we are real. I give them respect for the acting and for the athleticism. They’re very talented guys for sure, but it is a big difference what they do and what we do. We go in there and we fight and people get hurt. You put everything on the line in the Octagon and it’s real and on top of that, another great difference between us and them is that the amount of respect we have. We respect each other, we’re always showing respect to each other, there’s always a little bit of talk here and there to build up a fight but at the end of the day when the fight’s over you know we respect each other and we respect the sport, we respect the fans. Mike Thomas Brown on Inside MMA: "Normal sports fans, or MMA fans, I don't think they're into type of thing. But the pro wrestling fans, that's what they're into. I've never been a pro wrestling fan, but I could imagine, I know there's a lot of them, how they got really into that. They love the heel, the bad guy, the jerk who talks a lot of smack. So maybe it'll attract some hillbilly fans." LINK
  9. DREAM 10's main attraction won't be superfights such as Shinya Aoki vs. Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro or Melvin Manhoef vs. Paulo Filho, but rather final leg of the 2009 DREAM Welterweight Grand Prix tournament. DREAM 8 marked the beginning of the Grand Prix with opening round bouts between WEC veteran John Alessio and grappling phenom Andre Galvao, Lithuanian striker Marius Zaromskis vs. Seichi Ikemoto, Yuya Shirai vs. Jason High, and clash of Japanese titans in Shinya Aoki vs. Hayato "Mach" Sakurai. Four welterweights remain in the hunt to become tournament champion. LINK
  10. Brett Rogers is huge, Aleksander Emelianenko is the tallest and if it wasn't for Jeff Monson, Fedor would be the shortest top heavyweight, proving right there that skill > size: - Fedor Emelianenko 6'0" (230) - Josh Barnett 6'3" (248) - Brock Lesnar 6'3.5" (265) - Frank Mir 6'3" (245) - Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 6'3" (246) - Randy Couture 6'1" (220) - Shane Carwin 6'3" (260) - Brett Rogers 6'5" (262) - Andrei Arlovski 6'4" (244) - Alistair Overeem 6'5" (242) - Cain Velasquez 6'1.5" (239) - Jeff Monson 5'9" (242) - Mirko Filipovic 6'2" (226) - Fabricio Werdum 6'4" (256) - Cheick Kongo 6'4" (230) - Junior dos Santos 6'4" (237) - Antonio Silva 6'4" (260) - Ben Rothwell 6'5" (264) - Aleksander Emelianenko 6'6" (253) - Gabriel Gonzaga 6'2" (258) - Chris Tuchscherer 6'2" (264) - Paul Buentello 6'2" (244) - Heath Herring 6'4" (250) - Ray Mercer 6'1" (257) - Gilbert Yvel 6'2" (237) - Bobby Lashley 6'3" (256) LINK
  11. "Machida karate" is the current riddle of the light heavyweight class, with its angular stance, control of range, and explosive counter-strikes the bane of every fighter who encounters it in the Octagon. It goes without saying, but most have not done a good job at adapting to the style. His training partners struggle. "Sometimes, I ate some shots," said Vitor Belfort, who often sparred with Machida at Black House in Brazil. "I ate five to get one." Rua thinks people are taking the wrong approach. “Most of the guys that fought Lyoto… found a problem with patience, with finding the right moment to attack, or to counter-strike him,” he said. “Some guys try to rush it too much; some guys try to stay too patient, (and) they start to get nervous because of that.
