  1. So you guys don't care for bellator I take it? I think Bellator has put on good fights. Not really wanting to debate the issue though cuz I will watch all and any MMA lol
  2. Demo2_medium The UFC just continues to outdo itself. The number of ways to view a pay-per-view offering from the leading mixed martial arts promotion in the world continues to grow. You can order from your cable provider, stream online via popular destinations such as Yahoo and they’ve even started using social media giant Facebook to air free prelims. Now they’ve officially upped the ante. The organization today announced a partnership with NeuLion, Inc. to launch a new service that will provide fans with an interactive way to view live events. The website is already up and running but prior to UFC 126, the first event to officially offer the service, fans can preview the various features offered with a free demo look at round one of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard from UFC 125. The website is aptly named UFC.TV. Company President Dana White commented via press release: “Fans are always asking for more ways to get closer to the action and NeuLion’s capabilities allow us to deliver. With this technology, fans have ultimate access during our events and can control camera views, audio and score the bouts along with other fans.” Sounds good, right? Well, there’s a lot more. Star-divide This has the potential to be a groundbreaking venture by a company that is always looking for new ways to please its ever growing fanbase. NeuLion Chief Executive Officer Nancy Li believes they will gain even more with this partnership: “We are pleased to be working with the UFC and our new partnership will bring fans a whole new set of products and services. Whether online or mobile, fans can stay connected to UFC like never before. Granting UFC fans the most immersive experience yet, we are excited to be a part of the next step in their digital expansion.” So how exactly is this going to be an “interactive experience?” During live events, fans will have the ability to control the audio and video feed. You will be able to view the pay-per-view in broadcast quality with features such as quad view, picture-in-picture and even live chat with friends. You can even score the bouts yourself too. As previously stated, the service will launch officially on Feb. 5 for the highly anticipated UFC 126 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will feature an exciting main event pitting Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, not to mention a couple of potential slobberknockers in Forrest Griffin vs. Rich Franklin and Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones. Sounds like perfect timing. Anyone sold enough to give it a try?
  3. CHICAGO, Ill. (February 3, 2011) – Bellator Fighting Championships today announced the singing of seven-time UFC veteran Ben “Killa B” Saunders to its already stacked welterweight roster. Although Saunders will not participate in the upcoming Welterweight Tournament, “Killa B” will make his Bellator debut during Season 4. Bellator Season 4 airs LIVE on MTV2 beginning Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 9 pm. “Ben Saunders is an exciting, powerful welterweight with explosive knockout power. Ben’s dangerous and always shows up to fight. I’m excited to see his first fight under the Bellator banner on MTV2 in April.” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. A veteran of the sixth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Saunders enters Bellator with a 9-3 professional record, with eight of his nine victories coming by way of knockout, TKO or submission. “Killa B” holds notable victories during his time spent in the UFC over the likes of Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis, Bellator veteran Ryan Thomas, and Brandon Wolff. In his last outing, Saunders scored a decisive first-round submission due to strikes over Elijah Harshbarger last November. With momentum and a wealth of experience on his side, Saunders is eager to face any and all in his path. “I’m here to test myself against anyone that they throw against me,” said Saunders. “I want to be the best. I want to be a champion, and that’s my goal. I’m here to kick some ass, make some money, and take a belt along the way.” Star-divide Long before he was recognized as a world class mixed martial artist, Saunders struggled to find a support network for his dream of fighting professionally. At just 14 years of age Saunders took a job at McDonalds to finance his martial arts training. Soon after graduating from high school, the Florida-native found a local gym online which was located in Orlando. Saunders convinced his family that he was attending classes in a community college when in reality he was spending the majority of his time training. However, it was the lack of support and negativity from his family and teachers that motivated Saunders to push further in the sport. “My car broke down, so I lost my job and I was getting ready to get evicted from my apartment. At one point my family hit me up and they were so negative, they were like, ‘What the are you doing trying to do this fight thing? You’re not making any money! You need to go to college! You need to get a real job!’ I was just like, ‘I have a point to prove – Don’t tell me I can or can’t do something’,” said Saunders For more information, visit Bellator.com, follow Bellator on Twitter @BellatorMMA or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Bellator

  10. Hear Ye! Hear Ye! UFC middleweight number one contender Vitor Belfort has apparently been promoted to town crier, taking to the airwaves to announce his upcoming title fight against Anderson Silva. "The Phenom" confirmed the date of Feb. 5, 2011 (again) via last night's live appearance on HDNet's "Inside MMA," which puts their 185-pound dance at the yet-to-be-announced UFC 127 pay-per-view tentatively scheduled for Superbowl weekend. Assuming Silva's ribs heal in time and Belfort doesn't get hurt. The Brazilian submitted to chronic shoulder pain earlier this year, opting for surgery instead of a UFC 112 title fight. After "The Spider" danced the night away against Demian Maia in Abu Dhabi, Chael Sonnen stepped in for the recuperating Belfort and nearly crushed Silva before tapping out in the fifth and final frame. In fact, the performance was so dominant, UFC President Dana White promised an immediate rematch, and slotted a now-healthy Belfort against Yushin Okami at UFC 122. Then the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) came along and levied charges of drug use against Sonnen, effectively benching him for one year (or until his appeal is heard) following his UFC 117 career performance. Star-divide Enter Nate Marquardt. After a "Great" performance against Rousimar Palhares on Sept. 15, Marquardt relieved Belfort of his duties in Germany and will now face "Thunder" for the chance to challenge the winner of the UFC 127 title fight. It seems the division may finally be working itself out. The Phenom hasn't competed since a first round destruction of former division champ Rich Franklin back in Sept. 2009. The stoppage — coupled with his two devastating knockout wins under the Affliction banner — were enough to convince White that "The Old Vitor" is back and ready to face his fellow countryman. It's a tall order, considering Silva hasn't really lost in more than five years (sans a disqualification loss to Okami at Rumble on the Rock 8), and he's essentially obliterated the middleweight division since entering the Zuffa fold in mid 2006. In fact, he's been so good (pre-Sonnen) that White and Co. started matching him up against 205-pound fighters to give him more of a challenge. He passed with flying colors, sending former champion Forrest Griffin running for the hills and pasting James Irvin with a highlight-reel, fighting-ending combination. However, Silva has not had a solid (perhaps trademark is a better term) performance in the middleweight division since he submitted Dan Henderson at UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" back in March 2008. He's had two forgettable -- albeit winning -- fights against Patrick Cote and Thales Leites since that time followed by the travesty against Maia and of course, the clinic by Sonnen. It's safe to say that the promotion is looking to Belfort to bring the excitement back to the middleweight division ... win, lose or draw.
  11. Florian-dunham_medium In what could be a fight of the year candidate, Kenny Florian expects to face Evan Dunham on an already stacked UFC 127 card, which is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 5, 2011. “Kenflo” announced on ESPN’s MMA Live that he has verbally agreed to face “3-D” on Super Saturday. After losing his title bout with BJ Penn back in August of last year, Florian bounced back with two submission victories over Takanori Gomi and Clay Guida. Florian was in a race for UFC gold once again before being stopped in his tracks by Gray Maynard back in August, which earned “The Bully” a unanimous decision victory and a shot at Frankie Edgar‘s lightweight title. He’s got to climb back to the top of the ladder once again. And a win over the very talented and surging Dunham would go along way toward achieving that goal for a third and possible final time. Star-divide Going into his bout with Sean Sherk, Dunham had a perfect (11-0) record, defeating the likes of Efrain Escudero and Tyson Griffin. Dunham lost his fight to “The Muscle Shark” by a controversial split decision. While Sherk controlled the first round with his wrestling and effective ground and pound which opened up a gash, many believed Dunham had bounced back in rounds two and three to earn the nod from the judges sitting ringside. Didn’t happen. But even in defeat, Dunham’s stock continues to rise as he has emerged as a hot up-and-comer who could one day make a championship run himself. That journey will begin in early 2011 if he can somehow get past the contender killer from Boston, Massachusetts. UFC 127 will feature a main event that showcases Anderson Silva, who will defend his middleweight title against Vitor Belfort. Former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin is expected to co-headline the pay-per-view (PPV) event when he scraps with former middleweight title holder Rich Franklin. Also, two top prospects will go to war as undefeated TUF season 8 winner Ryan Bader meets light heavyweight sensation Jon Jones.
  12. Tyson-tuf_medium Props: CanadianPress.com Quoteworthy: Legendary heavyweight boxing champion -- and unabashed mixed martial arts fan -- Mike Tyson weighs in on the James Toney freak show, saying "Lights Out" did himself and the "Sweet Science" a disservice by thinking he could go in and just knockout Randy Couture at UFC 118 back in August. Toney ended up taking an early nap, succumbing to a choke midway through the first round after looking like a fish out of water. UFC President Dana White cut him shortly thereafter, indicating that he had proven his point: World class boxers just can't walk into a cage and steamroll a well-trained MMA fighter. Tyson, meanwhile, feels that it is possible for a boxer to transition to the sport, but he needs to be athletic and take it seriously. Care to disagree with "Iron?" Be sure to catch Tyson on tonight's episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) on Spike TV. He'll be sitting ringside and making a special appearance as a guest of White and presumably the network.
  13. Not again. Vitor Belfort has reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury and has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 122 "title eliminator" fight against Yushin Okami on Nov. 13 in Oberhausen, Germany, according to MMA Weekly. Stepping in for "The Phenom" will be former division number one contender Nate Marquardt, who will now face "Thunder" in the main event of the Spike TV telecast after a "Great" performance against Rousimar Palhares at UFC Fight Night 22 earlier this month. Opportunity once again came knocking, thanks largely in part to a dreadful year for the hard-hitting Brazilian. After a lingering shoulder injury became too much to bear, Belfort pulled out of his UFC 112 middleweight title fight against reigning division champion Anderson Silva at the Concert Arena from Ferrari World, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, back on April 10. Star-divide It was the second time his bout with "The Spider" was postponed. They were initially penciled in to collide at UFC 108 earlier this year; however, minor elbow surgery for Silva postponed the all-Brazilian brawl until Spring. Perhaps it wasn't (or isn't) meant to be -- Belfort has yet to make his middleweight debut and hasn't seen the inside of the Octagon since a first round destruction of former division champion Rich Franklin in a 195-pound catchweight fight back at UFC 103 on Sept. 19, 2009. At this time, the UFC has yet to make an official announcement regarding any changes to the Nov. 13 line-up; however, that hasn't stopped Internet conspiracy theorists from somehow tying this into Chael Sonnen's recent drug bust at the hands of the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). With a year long suspension likely awaiting the mouthy ex-politician, Anderson Silva will be left without an opponent for early 2011. UFC 122: "Belfort vs. Okami" was supposed to provide the next top contender, but now the promotion may once again shuffle the deck depending on the timeline for Belfort's return. Bottom line? Either Nate Marquardt or Yushin Okami are likely to leave Oberhausen with first dibs on the middleweight strap. But who will be wearing it by the time they get there? That remains to be seen.
