I have personally no problem seeing child molesters hanged, we've been through all that in the past Chris. However, what i'm saying if the capital punishment makes the problem worse (and it plain and simply does), it makes no sense doing that. I'd rather be raped than killed, I'd rather my family was raped than killed etc... etc.. etc... if those were the only two available options.. Period. You sound like you'd rather have them dead! That is one of the consequences of the death penalty for lesser crimes.. But you Americans are getting so sanitized over all the violence all over your country, an eye for an eye mentality becomes the norm. Even if that mentality has shown to enhance the problem, rather than reducing it. The sole reason for the oldest current democratic gathering, In Iceland in the year 930 AD, was this same eye for an eye mentality. Families were wiping each other out, not just one or two families, Sackett style, no, fucking everyone was doing it.. drastically reducing the population of this Island. There already is a death penalty for murder in the US. Is that actually deterring anyone? Sure doesn't look like that statistically. Any pedophile knows he is risking his own life by molesting a child, any child. Most parents would kill them or severely mutilate them, if caught.. Wouldn't you? Still you have pedos in any society, regardless of the official punishment. Even where they get stoned to death... So, again... how will a capital punishment in a civilized society help? It can yes, but in the severe cases, like mass murderers, it doesn't. Thieves aren't the problem here, mass murderers are. If one gets the same punishment for rape and for murder, what factor in that punishment, will deter the rapist from murdering his victim?

The problem with having a capital punishment, for example Rape, Pedofilia etc.. is that it is counter productive. You end with more or less the same amount of rapes, but a lot of dead women and children on top of that. If you get the same sentence for raping as you get for killing, then you kill everyone you rape... Gets rid of the primary witness... Not very complicated. History has shown this to be the case. Hence, civilized nations, have come away from this practise. I would rather have my Wife/daughter raped and alive, than murdered, if that were the only two choices I had. The same would go for myself... rather raped and alive, than dead.

Agreed! Humiliate them, that's exactly how to deal with this type of trash.... Talk about these type of people as very mentally ill individuals.. Feel sorry for them, not scared of them... Keep mentally deranged people far away from access to firearms. Make it impossible for anyone to own military style weapons... Period. And if allowed at all, only to be stored locked away at a shooting range.... (If caught anywhere outside of a shooting range, you get a mandatory prison sentence of 1 year,, minimum) Make it harder to get a license for higher caliber guns, than it is to get government Security Clearance. Minimum age to own any gun over 21 years... Possibly even 26 years of age (after the last developing brain connection for consequences, is in place) etc.. etc... But allow those "qualified enough" to own smaller caliber guns, to some extent. That would put a brake on many these type of incidents...

I disagree. No death penalty in the EU needed, with low crime and imprisonment rate. The civilized western part of Europe suffers a bit from criminals from the eastern block, raising the crime rate. But we are starting to deal with that, by sending the criminals back to their own country to serve their prison sentence.

Prison population in the USA, is a world record! On top of that, one of the worlds biggest, if the the world record of re-offenders... And what has that led you guys to.... Out of 10.35 million people imprisoned worldwide. 2.2-2.4 million of those, are imprisoned in the USA. That's c.a. 22% of the worlds prison population... However, the USA is only c.a. 3.75% of the total world population Almost a useless bankrupt punishment system, since re-offending is so common. SAD! While the European system is based on rehabilitation of those prisoners and has fewer re-offender percentage.... shit that has been proven to work. They punish with a prison sentence, but actually have a system aimed at helping those prisoners back into society, as a law abiding citizen. It doesn't work on everyone, but it works well for the majority if prison releases.
