  1. Personally, as an org owner I would never give someone a title shot who's coming off a loss unless it's an immediate rematch of the previous fight.

If anything, you'd think the the challenger would be complaining. Still not sure why this is an issue for the champ. If I was the champ here, it wouldn't be my preferred fight but I'd accept it no doubt.

The point is not the fight only. He offered me a fight against a fighter ranked as 10k p4p and I declined. I had nothing to win with the fight, but yet I could've accepted it if the org owner asked me nicely. However, did you see the two messages he sent me? The point of the topic is not only discussing whenever to accept fights or not, but also to warn everyone against that org. Just check the messages the guy sent me and you will see what I mean.

  2. I don't know about that. I already trained with some brown belts that has a tremendously great defensive grappling skills but not that much offense submission skills, and they just do great in bjj championship. I mean they weren't able to submit purple belts in gym, but they weren't submited for a black belt as well, due to their fightin style (more defensive, just trying not to make mistakes and trying some advanced position when they have a chance), and they won almost all fights by points. Damm, I already saw one black belt been champion only scoring one takedown, then fight on top just defending against submissions and sweps, sometimes judge decided for a stand up, he scored another takedown and then same strategy. Won four fights just fighting like that.

I really think there are some brown and even black belts jiu-jitsu fighters who are something like Sensational or even Elite in defensive grappling, but only Competent in submission (comparing the real life with mma tycoon skills). They know a lot of submissions positions but they just don't apply it very well against fighters who has good defensive skills, so they just fight to win by points. Comparing mma tycoon skills with real life, we cannot say that been brwon or black belt they would be at least wonderfull or exceptional in submission offense, because if that were true then they definitely would submit purple, brown or even black belts often, wich is not the case for the fighters I mentioned before.

PS: I don't like fighter who has this fight style, I'm just saying that they do exist and even can achieve very good results in tournaments.

I agree with you, almost 100%.

However, there is something I have to add to the topic as well. I've been training BJJ for 2 years, and I'm a blue belt, I've seen a lot of tournaments and joined quite a few. There are black belts and black belts, if you know what I mean.

I've seen black belts losing for blue ones, not for a lucky attempt that got him unprepared (as happened to me lol), but really for being better than them. Unfortunately some guys gain the belt without deserving it, without being prepared for it. Yet these guys aren't complete useless, even the worse ones can't be defeated by a raw blue couple times in a row (by raw I mean someone who just got a blue belt). Even a bad black belt has some skills, but usually a guy who is terrible at submissions will also be terrible at defensive grappling. When you train to defend yourself, you learn the submissions together. You might not be good at them, but you will know how to utilize them.

Comparing to MMATycoon, I'd say that someone with sensational defensive grappling would have at least superb submission offense (enough to submit several blue belts and maybe some purple ones). If a black belt is a complete useless at submission, he won't be good in defensive grappling as well.

Btw, we have to be careful to compare BJJ with No Gi. It's really, really different and not all BJJ fighters find the transition easy. In No Gi, all the belts become closer and the gap between levels becomes smaller. If you add the possibility of being punched while trying to work your ground game, it affects the confidence of a black belt to fight MMA going for submissions, even if he is good at it. Look at Toquinho, he lost a fight in the ground being much better at BJJ than his opponent.

  3. If you would of accepted the fight instead of worrying about losing your belt then you wouldn't of been stripped and still had the opportunity to have the title.

I don't mind with the title, honestly I'm not even bothered about losing it. The point wasn't losing the title, I just hoped to have fair fights, right now I just want to get my fighter out of the org.

Stu, I don't know what Prima Donna means, but I have a felling about what it problably does. The thing is, I didn't come here to have it sorted out, just to show how a guy was acting for having an org. Acting like he could do whatever he wanted to anyone. I hate to be disrespected, I don't do it to anyone so why would I have to accept it? I had thousands of bad days and it may have affected the way I acted in certain ocasions, but this doesn't seem like a bad day to me. Even if it was, we can't do whatever comes to our mind just because we're on bad days.

Honestly, I have no respect with people who has this type of attitude.

And now answer me, knowing what I told you, would you join this org with a fighter of yours? Knowing the owner will think you have to do what ever he wants and he will let your fighter waiting until the end of the year if you don't do it?

  4. I have never owned an org so I have no agenda. Stu is right. If you are the champ, you accept every challenger, bar none. If you don't defend your title against anyone in your weight class, you don't deserve to be the champion.

I understand your point, however I don't agree with it. I'm not saying champions have to fight only the top contenders, sometimes it is not possible, but if he got there he deserved it, the minimum I expect is a bit of respect with him to send decent offers.

It's like saying Aldo had to fight Vina if Dana said so, who is a guy eliminated from the TUF here in Brazil. He might fight, but I think it's a disrespect with the champion.

  5. The way i see it your the champ accept whatever fight is offered.. If he can't find your fighter decent competition then finish your contract and go to another org.

I try to accept every single fight offer I receive, even if I think it's a unfair one due to ID/skills (If I really don't agree with it, I send a message but accept it anyway).

Now, someone who talks that way, and later threaten me about leaving my fighter in the org until december is a good guy? He already stripped my champ and offered a fight against a fighter who is even less hyped. I accepted it so I can leave this org asap.

  6. Edit: You changed the fighter links, so ignore that post.

It looks like an unfair fight for sure, but the other fighter has an experienced manager with a good reputation. I would accept and leave it up to his own judgement if he chooses to accept or not. He is experienced enough that he doesn't need other managers to protect him and can decline his own fights. If I were him I'd decline, though.

I know Marus, he is a great guy (actually we are alliance mates) and it wouldn't bother me if he accept it, but his fighter is not even close to be one of the top hyped in the weight class, it's not only unfair with my champ it's also unfair to all other fighters in front of him who would wish to have a shot.

I understand your point, but I don't consider that we have to choose fights looking at managers. And look how rude he was, if he was at least polite and tried to explain me why should I accept it, I'd problably take it in consideration.

  7. I see you already beat the guy in your last fight, so it is strange to get a rematch offered so quickly. It was a close fight and all I can assume is the other guy asked for it hoping he could avoid the clinch if you fought again. If that isn't the case it is poor matchmaking.

That was actualy my fault, the fight I declined is another one, I corrected my mistake (sorry about that).

  8. Btw, this is the first time I decline a fight on his org, and whoever has any of my fighters signed knows I don't usually decline fights, I must accept like 29 in each 30 offers.
