  1. This is breaking down in to a discussion only about supplements and a specific solution I mentioned that is not part of the game. I am more interested in the core problem than possible solutions.
  2. I can get 150+ recovery supplements in Vegas for half the price as 147 stuff where most my fighters are. My sponsor takes care of providing me with freebies, so that price is better. But the reality is that if it was 25% more, with proper planning, LV makes more sense. My idea is to remove the ability to plan. That is make the time it takes supplements to get to people variable by up to 2 weeks. Even then, that would not keep people from buying, they would just maintain larger stocks.
  3. A new rule has been implemented to try to help small nutrition company owners in local markets. This is because a few large companies in LV can supply the world. I am one who thinks this change won't be enough. As the title says, the rich get richer, and the poor will be ignored. I am not going to blame a company like Non-Stop nutrition for being successful. In fact, I strive to emulate them with my business. What you see is an older company that has 2 advantages: a great product and more importantly, great advertising. As one of the most popular companies, they are the first thing you see when you search companies. When managers discuss supplements, the first thing they mention in improving are better supplements. Where to go? Not a local store that sells 130-140 stuff for under $100. Go with that 150+ stuff in Vegas, there are a few of them. Of course, I don't mean to attack Non-stop nutrition or the nutrition business. I just call it as I see it. And it is not limited there. To extend it to the gyms, I draw on my experience in NYC. NYC is a new city that has had people vying to be the top elite gym proprietor. That has led to true polarization in the gyms: several with only elite coaches and many with no coaches at all. The reason this is so damning is that as the signing bonuses wear off and fighters face the reality that $150-$200 is not reasonable for them, they are left with little options. People want elite training without elite prices, and the gym owners do not cater to the middlemen in this environment. What is worse is that an owner more competent than us schmucks may come around, but he will hardly be able to break into the saturated marketplace. The fight orgs are a bit alien to me. The very premise of the orgs is to attract better fighters, so one would expect those that can pay more to make more money. I actually have less to bitch about because this competition generally benefits the fighters with higher pay and better match making. Sorry if that is anticlimactic. I would love someone to post their frustrations with being a small fish in a big pond though so that I can better understand the thought process. Don't take this as complaining. It is more just to foster a healthy discussion. The number of fighters has doubled since I got here, and I feel like there has been a polarization effect. I would like to hear other opinions about how wrong I am in hopes of learning more about the game.
  4. I will restate this by saying that this is the worst idea possible for the game. We should focus on fighting with work as almost a punishment because it keeps us from actively working with our fighters. If anyting, I think working more should be punished.
  5. I just don't think this will have much change. I just saw 150+ for $50. I am a planner, as many people (business owners) are. I could buy a month worth of this for what I can get a single 147 for in my city. Do you know how hard that is to pass up? I think you should add a random time to get the supplement to a person, say between 3 days and 2 weeks. If I cannot plan, I will stick with home. (Send something in the postal service and you will understand this isn't a stretch)
  6. Bingo. why not try 2 weeks first...or make it longer to see if people even notice...which they won't
  7. Tested, worked. Thanks. I was scared to throw it away for fear of losing both.
  8. I have sent shirts to my fighters from my manager. It turns out that they "combined" to make 2 (100) shirts rather than a (100) and a (150). Seems a bit of a problem.
  9. I won't allow it Edit: Just because people who like things the way they are don't make a thread doesn't mean we don't out-number you. The age thing is just fine. I made my fighters to last until medical school is over.
  10. ~ has ^ back. He has to be careful here. If he gets too high, ^ will squirt out the back. Change: ^ is escaping through ~ legs. If ~ can only...Nope, ^ has gotten out. result: Standup
  11. Commentary text:^ is finding out the plum is not his sweet spot! Results: KO (knees) Commentary text:^is really controlling this one from the clinch. I don't know how much ~ can stand before....OHHH NELLY! What a shot! The ref didn't see another punch like that. This is all over. Results: KO (punches)
  12. I am a little amazed by the coverage this gets now. I mean, I would want at least 18 months with a guy. The problem is that some guys fight once a month. That gives us time to actually train for the guy we will fight. I enjoy that planning more than the results.
  13. Businesses are def. a game of their own. I had times where I almost quit Tycoon because I thought I was doomed. Luckly, several NYC companies came together in that first week or so, and it provided good networking (just like in real life)
  14. Sydney has some gyms that are not well developed. Maybe if you talk to the owners about helping you now by mailing their members could be paid back with sponsorships later. Asking for help is fine, especially if it keeps you in business. I won't lie, the business aspect of the game is far more competative than I imagined. I am not rolling in the dough like I thought I would be. Just get the word out aggressively, and you can go from there.
  15. I don't have to worry about this, so no one read into it... I was thinking that some gym owners might find themselves borderline on pay from time to time. If this is the case, the ways to rapidly cut costs are to sack a coach or reduce gym cleanliness. Raising fees would probably cost memberships, and gym equipment isn't typically replaced frequently. Cutting coaches is undesirable because the signing fees can be pretty extreme. In some cases, the fix may just be temporary, and they would be hesitant to lose out on their already-heavy investment by sacking him. My suggestion is to keep the coach on retainer for half of his salary. He will not teach classes (not even part time), so the owner should be motivated to quickly get him back in action. This should keep the system from being exploited (like hiring a "part-time coach" with elite skills for a gym with 10 people). Have the coach be out from the time he is put on retainer until the Thursday after 7 days. So if I put him on retainer Tues, that is 9 days until the next Thursday on which he can work. Again, this will keep people from trying to eek out free time. It also encourages better planning, either putting them on retainer Wed night or Thurs before they are paid. This could save some coaches up to $2000 a week in a pinch. Members should be hesitant to switch if they know their coach will be back in a week--if they leave, they risk losing a week's money when they sign up somewhere new.

    Gym Full

I love Tycoon Assist. I am torn on this though. I think the VIPs getting the assist is our reward for paying to keep the site going. Sounds elitist, but why don't we deserve to keep that to our selves (for now)?
  17. I understand there could be a difference in the Brits and our spelling. My point is there are multiple spellings on the same page. It is just about looking neat and professional. If I alternated spellings, whether they were correct or not, it would look bad.
  18. Most of it in the title. You have "striking defense" and "striking defence." far be it from me to correct spelling, but even I know that is wrong.
  19. You generate all these images for the avatars, wouldn't it be cool if the injuries from the fight showed on their face. I realize this is far down the line of things to do, but maybe it can just generate discussion now.
  20. As a gym owner, I can say that I thought I could offer the world for under $100. The fact is, so many gyms operate with almost no wiggle room. Cheap gyms have there place, and I think they are needed, but you will eventually get what you pay for.
  21. Non QFC fight stats Total number of fights: 2267 Fights ending by KO: 798 (35.2%) Fights ending by Sub: 1019 (44.9%) Fights ending by Decision: 450 (19.9%) Fights ending as Draws: 16 (0.7%) So there are more submission wins, but it looks like it is the decisions that are low, not the KOs. What is really needed is more of a fatigue factor so a fight goes to decisions. KOs don't need to be added at all, otherwise you are just going to see 44% KOs. 35% subs, and people bitching there are too many KOs. See how that works?

    10-8 round

Maybe less takedown attempts...66 attempted. I mean, I know Kaleb Starnes was stuck in reverse, but you did just as much running as he did trying to get all of those.
  23. I like the way submissions are now. I am not looking for a carbon copy of life. If I am having a fighter specializing in submissions, it is because I want a fight on the ground. Part of the fun is figuring out how to get the other guy there. Yes, there are some standing submissions, but they represent a small % of actual fight results. If anything, it would be an anti-wrestling tool, and you would find that guys shooting in with crappy wrestling are other submission guys. So instead of ending on the back, it ends on the feet. That just isn't worth the time. I can also wait for rubber guard....
  24. Mike had shown some results about a month and a half ago. They were roughly 33% per ending (that is around 1/3 sub, 1/3 KO, 1/3 decision). If that is accurate still, that is essentially what the UFC sports. Do you know how cool that is?
  25. As Mike said in another forum, part-time/no training are not permanent solutions, but just a quick fix. (Reading comprehension skill: 129)
