  1. This may make for the rich get richer. Already, those with more money get better gyms and will go on to earn money. If those top fighters also get the edge in sparring, then what chance will anyone have? I am not saying a fighter made last month should beat a guy made in Feb, but what I am sayig is that there has to be a hope for guys to climb the latter and not be pigeonholed by some losses. If you look at Mike's blog on his manager page, he notes one of his fighters emerged from something like 0-3 to a very respectable level. If a similar fighter after your proposed change were 0-3, he would have to wait a much more significant time period to recieve a similiar level of competancy from sparring. Sparring gyms are the minority. I think it is important to address this from the right perspective-the vast majority of people play the game legitimately and should not have to worry about a system leaving them behind to tackle a small problem.

  3. I would be happy with a system that allowed an owner to set certain limits. I feel it should be restricted some how, say only a certain number of sessions per week can have a minimum. Every gym I have been to has sparring just for top guys, often instructors at the place and a couple top students. Let us face it, even in real life, you want this kind of challenge. In the game, it serves the same purpose to make the gym better. As always, I only fear abuse of the system, or at least fear people being singled out. If 2 sessions per week were dedicated to this system, it would take a little over 6 months to get the reported 64 sessions it took the first black belts to pop. At that point, it is dedication, not abuse. I have always advocated planning on the user level over adding code (similar to using existing laws instead of making new ones), but it is impossible without a massive body of work to prove someone is violating the system. Giving a tool to the gym owners would be popular in my mind. My idea would be something like making the manager able to set the minimum Saturday sparring number. If the owner wants it open to all, so be it. If he wants a limit, he can set it. This at least helps distinguish gyms, which was part of the rationale for the $499 price fix.

You sound French to me Johnny....or should I say Jean-Pierre?!
  5. The story makes it sound like there were 3 in the room, but the punchline is that his dog and girlfriend are one in the same. Thankfully, he explained this to me because I am not good with jokes. he assures me gives her the best "milk bones," what ever that meant.
  6. I understand your argument now, however, people have the option to move fighters to virtually any weight class. Females would, obviously, be limited in this category, and the internet trolls of war would start banging their drums as they ask for their broads to fight real fighters. I just think this is Pandora's box (get the pun there?) that we don't want opened (more pun)

I would like to suggest Olympus Stadium, in honor of the bungle that is the Olympic Stadium
  8. From everything I read on wiki in the past, this is a fixed number. I would compare him to other fighters--it could be he is just fine and the error is on your part. Look at his energy, supplements, sparring class, and then make your determination. However, if he is winning, he is still a good fighter and might be worth holding on to.
  9. My only thought on female fighters is that it will dilute the fighter pool when several (non-UFC) weight classes are hardly competative when compared to other weight classes. I have also posted that I do not think the game should be "true to life" in every way, but something in me has a problem with a woman with 150 strength out-muscling a guy with 140 strength were they to fight on here. Let us face it, women are weak (I would gladly compare any feat of strength to any female fighter)--it is the biological reality of everything from bone structure, muscle fiber density, and hormone levels that make this something femi-Nazis cannot deny. A good high school pole vaulter would easily set the woman's world record in practice....and I am babbling now. My point is, I would want something in the code to signify this difference despite my understanding this is a game and not necessarily in line with reality. That sounds like more work than it is worth to add a feature for the least popular fighters in the world.
  10. I had considered this in my head. At some point I will have a good fighter and at some point he will cease to be good. I don't want him off the books, he is my trophy. I also think gyms can use an incentive. In general, I think any company should be able to retain the manager's talent for some bonus, but we can all agree it isn't worth a high-intensity debate since we are far from reaching that level of game. The troubles that come with your suggestion are numerous though. For starters, how do you pay the coach? Is it a flat rate or based on his skills? If it is based on his skills, elite conditioning, which he would easily have by retirement, would cost you $2750 before any other skills. Easily, the fighter could run over $10,000/week if he has trained for a long time and at a high level. If it is a flat rate, you may end up having a grossly over-qualified coach for the pay. It would also greatly handicap new gyms, as older gyms with fighters like 10 or 70 are becoming coaches and have many talents in high demand. This would make the pay scheme even more sensitive. And let us talk about abusing the system. Guys could train a guy in 1-2 areas just to make him a coach. Some people would even just give a guy 110 starting stats (made to 111 after creation) just to retire them. Again, this would make price susceptible to abuse. I think there are several things to be considered. One is just a personal "hall of fame" (or shame?). Another is to make the coach an all time sparring coach. This would obviously need serious restrictions. I would consider a minimum of one year since creation, a minimum hype rating, and still consider possible weekly fees to be paid and the gym would have to be around for something like 6 months (so people aren't just creating a gym to spar with their retired red belt). In other words, the guy better damn well be worth it! This provides some distinction between other gyms in having the coach spar. It would be difficult to abuse in a developed gym because there is no guarantee you will spar with the guy. Also, I consider few willing to spend $20 (6 months of VIP to run a gym based on my restrictions set) and 1 year (again, my restricted time line) just for a sparring partner. I would assume with that amount of work, they would jsut keep the fighter if he is that good. So while I like your idea, as I have considered it myself, I feel it is too open to abuse. It would take serious modification to the basic idea and heavy restrictions that I cannot fully foresee to make this a safe concept for the game.
  11. To counter the entire legal system--this is not real. It is a game, and it deals more with strategy of the game than mimicking true-to-life events. And I think wanting your money back on a silly investment is absolving you of all responsibility. So many commonsense techniques can be used. Look at the fight record. Look at the ability to cut wait or energy in general. Look to see if he has purchased supplements or gear repeatedly. You can weigh all these things to begin to form an impression on the manager. Companies are hard work and without risk. I completely do not support the most lucrative company-type in the game being cleared of financial responsibility with its fighters. If you make a bad pick on a horse, you don't ask for a re-bet. If you cannot pick managers willing to stick with the program, why should your org get a second, third, or fourth chance?
  12. Bipolar disorder is a serious condition, and you must seek medical help. You might go all Lenny on us and snap the puppies neck, then sit there petting it, asking why it made you destroy it. You should stock up on a massive number (10,000?) units before Mike ninjas the change in there. Anywho, until then, I say destroy the competition. Teach them that the real world extends to the virtual.
  13. The increases are not linear. What you might accomplish in 2 days at Useless might take 2 weeks at wonderful. Recently, there was a major gym getting black belts, and a number that stuck in my head was something like 64 sessions, and I am assuming that is starting from a brown belt. So you will probably train that for quite some time, and may feel it isn't worth it.
  14. I think the conditioning aspect needs to be tweaked before I would enter one of my fighters. In the old days, guys winning fast and without damage had an advantage. There are times on here that not having cardio seems to hardly matter. I would not risk injury and losses for a fighter unless I felt my dedication to conditioning would pay off.
  15. I think this is why active managers should be better compensated. You took a risk on those guys and lost. I have gotten several very lage signing bonuses for my top fighters because the org owner knows they will be there when he needs them.
  16. The problem of looking at the average of members is that people have like 140 points, and the average would be close to 140/4 for most gyms
  17. I know you can lose cardio, but can a day off on Sunday cause this?

    Gym record

I thought of this the other night. The pros are that you can try to interpret the data and pick wisely, the bad news is that the gym becomes vulnerable to other managers' ability to set a slider. I think instead something more useful would be the trend. For instance, the gym win % for the 1-5 fight, the win % of 6-10, etc. This is 2 fold: it tells you the experience of the gym in general and the ability of the gym to make a guy competitive. If fighters aren't getting better, that is the bad part. Seems very impractical, and as a former gym owner, I would be against it, but I think it is a better direction.
  19. Thanks Mike! Any idea what causes this? I am always paranoid about using Firefox (it is just easier for me to delete my porn history), and I blame that for my problems. Does the game run better on any particular browser?

  24. It will still polarize. People with brown belts won't spar with anything under 100, so they are out. Purple belts will then pop slower if they know there are no brown belts, etc. The best chance is coordination from your individual gym to find a plan that works for that gym. I have tried various things at the gym I ran, some successful, some not. I think at some point, the onus of responsibility is on the managers to work together to get the best training conditions.
  25. I intended to send my fighter 1 energy supplement from my stash today. Instead, it sent my fighter 68 energy supplements. That is like 2.5 years of supplements. Fighter #12463 Manager # 4957 Message under possessions: "Dane Hoy - XtremeRecovery 150+ - (Sent 2009-08-30)" I will be unable to watch it to see if there is an error in the number arriving (seems like a possible double whammy coming). If it helps, I use Firefox. No other windows were open, such as fighter pages, etc. If there is anything else you need answered to help, I am at your service.
