    Part Time Training

When stated like this, I totally agree. We should cater to those who train full time, not those who cannot manage a win/money. Frankly, this gives full-timers an advantage of less crowded classes when part-timers are working.
  2. WHy not focus on defense. Stay on your feet and, if you go down, have the defense to not lose. If that is the case, you should be able to KO them.

    Polls

Mass emails allow us to write everyone, but sorting the responses can be hard. A poll option that allows me to look/share the results is my goal so I can get a better idea if I should increase rates for my gym.

    gym members

Elite MMA and Dropset Dojo are both gyms in NYC, so on some level there is a feeling of competition. I, however, agree that the fighter should be compensated and on some level protected, at least for a week. My justification is simple: when a fighter enrolls in a gym, he pays an upfront cost. Should a gym owner look to boot someone, it could be after the first Thursday payday. They could get as little as a weeks training on 3 weeks pay. Burn! I think the real issue is control of the gym by the owners. We try to gather information to make sound business choices, like coach hiring. Yet, we cannot see who is training with which coach, we don't know who is sparring, and we don't even know who is active. some simple solutions for the owners: --Color code the names of gym members to let us know if they are part-time or not and if they are able to make next week fees or not. (the part-time portion is very important because we can adjust our maint. money if a guy is not training to recoup energy after being tanked in a fight) --Sparring breakdown: allow owners to see who is sparring on which days. Like another owner mentioned, I tinker with ways to improve sparring, and I want to know if they are working or being abused. --Different chat boxes for different things. A lot of us use a wall of text to advertise new coaches, sparring schedules, sponsorship agreements, etc. Maybe we can make it cleaner for everyone. By standardizing it, you can make sure the right info is getting out to everyone. --option to "minimize" some of the really irrelevant stuff. This can be extended to non-owners. Like being able to hide the hundreds of names of other fighters in the gym. --Pure vanity here, but maybe put a white-washed logo of the gym in the background so as the person scrolls down, they are constantly reminded of the control I wish I had over their fighter's life. Ok, I am just being silly. --Be able to edit chat in the gym. I have had no (zero, zip zilch) problems yet, but there are times I can imagine a need to regulate what is put out there. If someone joins my gym to spam or advertise something I do not support, I feel I should be able to have some level of control. I can see chat breaking down in the wrong circumstances. As a large gym with many members, it is only a matter of time before 2 guys have fighters square off and only a matter of time before on runs his/her mouth.
  5. I think this can be be a bit much. If an owner of a gym is looking at this page of fights taht comes close to resembling the people in the gym, It would just be another wall of useless text. I think there are issues with gyms far more pressing than stalking your members. I rather have more options for sparring for instance. For my gym, I try to use self-reporting from each member about things like title fights if they want it posted. A lot of people simply don't care/don't want their business aired out, and I respect that.
  6. I agree that the system isn't far from broken and that it can work just fine for active guys. At the most, I lose a days supplement when I forget to change on of my fighters that I am resting. I think the issue comes down to a little bit more control in supplements. There are times one supplement won't cut it in a day because I want to train 2 very different things. Again, good planning really limits the waste. I guess it just seems as natural to want control over what a fighter does with putting stuff in his body as he wants with how he trains.
  7. What does one gain from travelling to cities? Am I able to take fights in the city? Am I able to train there?

    Training...

I kept reading that as 99.97% useless. Anyways, great bit of info, thanks for the heads up. And I was sparring for the training

    gyms

I think with these gym upgrades there should be several considerations: --new gyms must be able to differentiate themselves. That means they must be able to afford some level of the gear to start. Maybe in the $10,000 range (a little more than the signing bonus of some coaches) --there will be a learning curve and mistakes made and coaches must be able to afford change. At something like $60,000, a gym owner would have to work for months for a couple upgrades, and what if he finds that no one cares for an item? Other ideas are large investments in an item and a pay-to-use feature. This would favor large gyms, but if the idea is to draw money from the fighters, just find a way to make sure not as much goes to the owner. I think gyms would benefit greatly from differentiating from others. I think that will create movement of fighters, higher quality product to keep fighters. We have to remember though, that most gyms don't generate much money compared to something like a fight org. If you simply need to draw money from gyms (and fight orgs), consider insurance. I know I have had injured fighters that need 15 days of TLC.
  11. My fighters hidden box apparently is "Good in bed." Fighter number 15143. Anyways, better than cuts easy, but a bit silly

    gyms

Having the owners invest in things like a sauna, therapist might be a way to increase cost in a gym. One way to differentiate gyms is to have 5 options but only space for 2 in each gym. Examples: Sauna for cutting weight easier Physical Therapist for reducing injury time. Maybe make this subject to diminished returns if there are a lot of people, kind of like the current system Snack Bar- slightly increase supplements Ice Bath- reduces energy loss of high energy exercises like cardio and weight lifting slightly Mirrors- increase effectiveness of self-trained training (cardio, yoga, weightlifting) Training cage/ring- slight increase in MT and boxing sparring high quality mats-slightly increases wrestling and bjj sparring Day care- Part time fighters gain an extra evening fighting My idea is to focus on things that are neglected, such as sparring. Another is to encourage things that would reduce coaching burden by having people wanting to train more on their own (mirrors, ice bath). Finally, I think the day care could engage fighters who are border-line because they haven't been successful fighting. Anyways, I think making these expensive is an option, but make it a one time cost without maint. The logic to this is a gym might decide to have a fixed cost versus weekly payroll. Maybe have this count as a coach slot as well...just an idea.
  13. I think the trend is gyms with no coaches. I don't think these guys cheat, probably just guys who wanted a VIP account w/o weekely expenses while they run and lift. I don't mind this I guess, to each their own. it seems you just need to address multiple businesses. Perhaps just add a cool-down, like sacking a fighter. You can only have one gym every 6 months, one clothing company every 6 months, etc. That means a person can experiment with a company for 90 days, try another for 90 days, and then go back to the first.
  14. Only like $1000. It was essentially the minimum coach cost of $500 doubled as the signing bonus. I know these things are low on the list of priorities. The constant error message is annoying only because it is so hard to make coach or an adjustment to a number if there is a mistake. The money is nice, of course, but I would pay it to have this fixed
  15. I was typing in a coach skill to hire. I was typing in "150" but accidentally typed "250." The endless stream of error reports said that it was out of range. To fix this takes a magic combination of hitting ok and backspace before the next error window. I hit "Enter" to speed this up. Got the back space, but the next error message popped up. I re-hit enter, but rather than close the error message a second time, it hired the coach (giving me a MT trainer with 20 skill points). This has always been annoying, but it shows that it can basically become a $1000 mistake for us (because it doubles the min. signing bonus).
  16. Guys, guys...the enemy is Attiction. I am trying to rally support to boycott this guy. Mike has said he is busy and writing code to prevent one a-hole is low priority As members, the best thing we can do to support Mike is boycott him. Companies failing because of crap like this will hopefully set a precedent no one wants to follow. I say that if you are an organizer, gym owner, or in an alliance, send a mass message encouraging a boycott. If you are not able to send these mass mails, write your gym owner and organizer to do this. He is harming fighter pay, which can hurt training, which can lead to worse shows, fighters dropping gyms, etc.
  17. I requested you stop sending all of my fighters these predatory contracts. And within minutes, I was still receiving them. My exact words to you were "If you do not stop sending my fighters these offers, I will go to the forums." I have made good on what I wrote to you. Frankly, it seems you work harder on sending a mail to everyone out there than actually building a product people want. I have mail in my mailbox from fighters new to the game who feel abused, and they want out of their contracts because they did not understand the premise of the contract in a game they don't yet fully understand. Your spamming every fighter in an org or gym is designed to grab these guys, and I feel it is wrong. You think it is fair to limit their ability to earn money for the sake of your hype? Good luck in having people not hate that. Luckily, this post is not based on false information. It has been a problem written about by many people. I hope this is addressed, if for no other reason, than to stop predatory scum bags like you from ruining the experience of others in the future. I would say I wouldn't buy your clothes, but I had never intended to buy them in the first place. Next time, spend all day working on your template.
  18. Some times, I just want to make a poll rather than relying on a ton of emails to come back and a pen and paper to mark lines representing their vote. I have considered using my gym's website an outside website (http://www.micropoll.com/) to do this polling. Maybe you can add a feature like this instead. I know it is common in forums, so maybe you can allow org, gym, and alliance owners to do this.
  19. I am getting some responses from the members of my gym who have accepted this. They did not understand the consequences of the $0 thing because they are new to the game. I understand that there is some individual responsibility, but to those new to the game, I am sure they were not anticipating predatory deals being sent out. For the most part, I have not seen this on the game yet, though I have only played less than a month.

    Mouse over

I think this may be complicated and down the food chain from things like bookies and fight engines, but I would love an ability to mouse over a fighter name in something like "My Fighters" and just see a wealth of knowledge. Fight date, an energy bar, maybe training....basically what VIP stuff offers in that big red A thing, but without having to do massive clicking when trying to organize 10 guys. Maybe make it modular so I can choose what I want displayed or not displayed.
  21. Maybe just reset their entire account to how it was before they started VIP and their fighters initial settings. Example: I go bankrupt, my fighters lose all supplements and clothing. They are reset to their stats when created. I now choose between a bottle of booze and a bottle of aspirin or doing things the right way from that point forward.
  22. Attliction (459) has apparently found its business model in offering $0 sponsorships...to everybody. And when you request an end to this...more spam. I understand there are not great advertising tools to get a brand-name out on the market other than sponsorship. As a business owner, I have contacted managers about joining my gym if they are in the admin gym. However, this continues after asking to be stopped and is not a single request to a manager about sponsorship: it is ten requests. With the $0, it is also predatory. I think we should have a way to ignore a manager/company or report what we feel is abuse. I am not alone in thinking this in NYC. Fight orgs have written their members warning them of this, noting that it may negatively affect their ability to earn (train) for up to a month.
  23. Since we seem to come up in a lot of forums, let me start my own thread to address both questions and attacks. Dropset Dojo was founded to be a place in NYC that would be the kind of place I would want my fighters. I started because there were a lack of gyms meeting my standards when I arrived in NYC after trying out Sydney. I wanted to look at where people were choosing to train and how fighters were losing and address both issues. While not perfect, I have continued to try new things and have grown to the largest gym in the Big Apple. I like to think it is because of my open communication about my future plans to gym members so they know what to expect. As many managers can attest to, I have used their suggestions to keep the gym fluid and accessible to the greatest amount of fighters while keeping costs low. The competitive pricing is not a gimmick. I feel that I should make enough to keep the gym clean, keep the best coaches coming in, and pay back my loan. If at any point I feel my fighters are not receiving the top training, I will cap membership. If you are thinking of creating a fighter in New York or want a gym that fits your demands better, message me or check us out at Dropset Dojo. --Dilbert
  24. I won't go into exact numbers, but at the moment, we have less than 10 guys per trainer. That is not entirely different than elite. The main difference between the two is not coaches per fighter. It is where we choose to focus our energy. 40% of fights end on the ground, and I made sure to try to provide the best defense against that. On top of that, I have laid out to my fighters in the gym the next week-2 weeks so they are assured how these numbers will stay low while still providing a significantly cheaper price. VIP members can compare and ask me about future changes if they are interest. I think they will feel confident that they are getting the best money can buy.
  25. I think being able to track energy from the gym for each fighter would save a ton of time. I find myself going through several mouse clicks (the end of the world!) for 10 fighters. By adding a button or a mouse-over feature, it would save a ton of time.
