  1. Sauna Fights 1 review First of all, thank you everyone helping us to make this event (Mike Tycoon, special thanks for you). It was better than we had ever dreamed it to be. Sold out The Underground in Amsterdam witnessed ten fights, of which seven ended before full time. Event rating was 91.63 and that is very impressive for first event. Now to the fights. 265+ lbs Jesus Pope v Rutger Van Dijk In our very first main event we got to see two skilled ground specialist going at it. In the first round Pope started feeling out his opponent by some leg kicks and Van Dijk tried to show his punching skills but sadly for him, his punches didn't land. After less than one minute Pope went for a single leg takedown and managed to get the previously undefeated Van Dijk on his back and ended up in half guard. This was obviously bad for Van Dijk, as Pope started immediately pounding his opponent with punches and elbows. After some time Van Dijk started to look kinda desperate, even trying to submit Pope from half guard. Obviously that attempt was doomed to fail. Rest of the first round was really one mans show, Pope pounded Van Dijk from guard, side control and at one point he even had Van Dijk mounted for quite some time. Pope tried to submit Van Dijk by a arm triangle in the end of first round but Van Dijk was able to avoid it and survived to second round. In the second round Pope immediately took Van Dijk down Van Dijk looked quite tired after the first round. But we can't blame him, after the G'n'P treatement Pope gave him in the first round most fighters would have not been able to continue to second round. This time in the ground Pope wasn't able to do much because Van Dijk managed to control fight from the bottom and with more than three minutes left in the second round referee was forced to stand our fighters up. The fight standing showed again power of Pope's leg kicks and after about one minute of softening Van Dijk's legs Pope took this fight to the ground. After punishing Van DIjk for some minute and half with good G'n'P Pope decided that it's time to start looking for a finish. It was obvious at this point that if those 60 or so hard punches given in the ground aren't taking Van Dijk out Pope has to try something else. Pope tried in the last 75seconds of the second round to submit Van Dijk on three occasions and in the very last second ouf our second round Van Dijk tapped out due to a armbar. Van Dijk's corner tried to yell at him to hold on because the round was going to end, but the unbelieveable noise created by our crowd in sold out "The Underground" made it impossible for Van Dijk to hear anything. Jesus Pope seemed extremely happy about his performance. Dominating this fight from the beginning to the end and being able to finish previously unbeaten Van Dijk, he surely had reason to celebrate. Winner by Submission (armbar) 4:59 of Round 2. Jesus Pope! Pope recieved submission of the night honours with his armbar. 205 lbs Whatever Man v Mark J Shields Co-main event featured submission artist and more experienced fighter Whatever Man from Belarus and debuting as a professional Amsterdam's very own Mark J Shields. As we predicted, Whatever took this fight to the ground. But the interesting part of the fight was that the first takedown attempt in this fight was made by Shields, who clearly had the disadvantege in the ground. But sadly for Shields he wasn't able to do much in this fight. Whatever was able to avoid everything Shields had to offer standing, none of his punches or kicks landed and also his takedown attempt was a failure. Man was able to take this fight to the ground when there was more than four minutes left in the first, so he had plenty of time to work his ground game. But he decided to try to end this one quickly. After one minute he started twisting Shields arm looking for a Kimura from Shield's half-guard, but he was quickly able to pass to side and there find the leverage to complete his submission and end this fight. Shields got a bad start for his career, but at least now he knows that he has to be more patient standing and try to improve his ground game. Despite his loss we hope to see him again fighting at Sauna Fights. And of course, Whatever Man moves up in his division seeking up for new challenges. Winner by Submission (Kimura) 1:06 of Round 1. Whatever Man! 265 lbs John Matrix v Pau Nadal As we suspected in our preview, Matrix kept this one standing. But what we didn't excpect was the dominance Matrix showed in this fight. Matrix was able to defend both takedown attemps by Nadal easily and Matrix didn't miss a single punch in this fight. Our fans in the audience were truly enjoying the match and went absolutely crazy when Matrix knocked Nadal out cold with uncanny uppercut that was so hard that Nadal was lucky to find his jaw in one piece and still in the right place. Winner by KO (Punches) 0:23 Round 1. John Matrix! KO by Matrix was of course KO of the night. 170 lbs Matti Teppo v Ryan Shay Matti Teppo was the first black belt to fight in Sauna Fights. But in the first round of his fight against Ryan Shay, Shay showed that he has no respect for Teppo's belt as he tried to take him down right away. Teppo was clearly surprised by this but was able to defend it. Just after 30 seconds or so Teppo showed Shay how takedown's are properly done by lifting Shay in air and dumping him to the ground. But on the ground Shay showed some surprising skills as he was able to control Teppo a bit, even was on the top briefly at one point. Luckily for Shay referee decided to stand both fighters up quite soon. But again Shay showed that he doesn't fear Teppo's submissions and he tried instantly to take Teppo to the ground. After trading some punches, of which only Teppo's landed the black belt from Turku, Finland decided to clinch up again and again took Shay down from clinch. This time he showed who is the boss on the ground, softening Shay up with some punches from the mount. When first round was coming to an end, he ended the whole fight by going for a armbar from mount, forcing Shay to tap out. This was a very impressive performance by Matti Teppo, who showed today that he is dangerous opponent both standing and especially in ground. Winner by Submission (Armbar) 4:27 Round 1. Matti Teppo 265 lbs Mitchell Stehling v Chip Chap This fight really fired up our crowd. I suspected myself that this one would be settled in the ground, but Stehling decided otherwise. Chap tried to take this one to the mat early in the first, but Stehling was able to sprawl nicely and started beating his opponent up with punches and kicks. This fight lasted only 31 seconds but in this time we saw some excellent stand up game by Stehling, finishing this fight with devastating right hook that dropped Chip Chap and referee was forced to end this one. While Stehling was going crazy celebrating his impressive victory, Chap had a intensive discussion with the judge claiming that Stehling had poked him in the eye earlier in the fight. But the referee says no such thing happened. I think we will have to see that one from replay, but it's not going to affect results. Winner by TKO (Strikes) 0:31 Round 1. Mitchell Stehling. This fight was awarded with fight of the night honours.
  2. Sorry guys for keeping you waiting. I had to move this week so it's been quite busy. Last weekends reviews will be online tomorrow (Amsterdam time) http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1282147589Sauna3.jpg Sauna Fights 3 Preview On 4th of September we are making our 3rd appearence in Amsterdam's The Underground. Both of our previous events have been sold out and left the crowd begging for more great Sauna action. Looking at this Saturday's card, I am sure that we will be able to provide another great event to - hopefully - sold out The Underground. All fights are non title fights, so three five minute rounds for every fight. 265 lbs Pertti "Raju" Rauta (8-3) v Paul "HARD" Baller (8-2) Fight fans across the world have always loved to see when big guys fight. And that's something we will see on this Saturday when our cage has to hold more than 500lbs of MMA-fighters going at it. As in all our fights, it's hard to predict winner. But in this fight it's also very hard to predict is it going to be ground war or stand-up war. Baller has only blue belt in BJJ, but as always belts can only tell you so much about fighters ground skills. He has submitted for example a brown belt and several purple belts. In this fight before even thinking about submitting "Raju" he has to work his way trough Raju's excellent takedown defence. He has been able to defend more than 90% of takedown attemps in his career. And when you try to take him down you might also get kicked or punched in the face, so be careful Baller. Raju is the more decorated MT and Boxing specialist of these two. He might look to soften HARD out with his excellent clinch-game and then maybe finish him with some vicious punching. But who knows, we will see it on saturday. I personally can't wait to see this fight because both are very popular fighters and I know when Amsterdam's very own Paul Baller enters the cage our fans will go NUTS! 155 lbs Juan Mann (4-1) v Otakar Janecky (9-3) Our co-main event features rising star Juan Mann and the more experienced Otakar Janecky. Otakar has had some tough fights this year. His record in 2010 features four wins and three losses and he is coming to this fight with two fight win streak from QFC fights. But now he will have to get back to more serious organized matches when he faces only 20 yrs old Juan Mann, who hasn't lost a fight since end of April. Mann in his fights often tries to look for a submission victory, but has only once managed to pull one off. On Saturday he should keep the fight standing. Since Janecky has submitted 8 of his 12 opponents, it's fairly unlikely that Mann could survive in the ground with Janecky for three rounds and not get submitted. But if the fight is kept standing he has decent chance to win this thing. Young englishman is known to be heavy handed (altough never knocked anyone out) and has the better stand-up of these two fighters. Once again, we will wait and see what happens on Saturday! 265 lbs Aart Van Strijder (4-0) v Stefan Struve (3-2) In our second heavyweight bout Muay Thai artist Van Strijder faces quite well rounded Struve. Van Strijder is tough opponent for anyone. Trying to stand and bang with him is very difficult. He likes to leg kick opponent when they come too close, and if for some reason opponent manages to get trough those kicks he will clinch you. When clinched he likes to work out his opponents by kicking them with hard knees to body or even to head. His opponent Struve will probably try to take this in to the mat. His stand-up skills are OK, so he might be able to defend against Strijder, but not damage him. Van Strijder's ground game has not yet been tested, but as far as we at Sauna Fights know, he likes to skip his BJJ sparring sessions. Struve has not been able to finish any of his opponents yet, but this is his first fight with "real" MMA-org and he is gushing with confidence. Let's just hope he doesn't try too hard. 170 lbs Johnny Dalton (5-3) v Jae Darko (4-5) Fight between Dalton and Drako is most likely going to end in (T)KO. Drako comes to fights looking to really hurt his opponent. Quite often he is the one lying in canvas thinking what wen't wrong, but I think he is one of those guys who rather get KO'd than win by decision. His opponent Dalton isn't any different. He is holding the better record of these two and only one of his five wins is via decision. I don't think this one needs any more introduction. This one might be over quickly and the winner is who happens to hit first. Don't blink when you watch this one. 155 lbs Tony Johnson (2-2) v Veijo Meri (4-7, 1 NC) This fight is vital for both of these fighters. They both don't have the best record in the world and desperately need to win. Meri is coming to this fight with two fight win streak, one by KO and one by armbar. Johnson won his last one, but was defeated in the one before that, both fights ended by TKO. Both have the KO power to end this and Meri can also submit his opponent. Neither fighter have ever won a fight by decision, so I'm pretty sure we will see quite entertaining fight on Saturday. Because as I mentioned earlier they both need this win desperately.
  3. http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1282147559Sauna2.jpg On Sunday 29th of August 2010 Amsterdam will be treated with more entertaining Sauna-action! Sauna Fights 2: Getting Warm is held in "The Underground" where we will present ten entertaining fights, all planned to last three five minutes rounds. Fight previews: Ilpo Larha (5-1) v Doug Marshall (5-0) MW-division Our main event features two of our top middleweights. Both fighters have won five times, Larha has been KO'd once, but Marshall is still holding clean record with zero losses. That's something Larha seeks to change in their fight. He is the better grappler of these two, that's something we can say for sure. So he will for sure look to get this fight ground as soon as possible. There he will try to twist Marshall's arms on positions evolution has not yet adapted to. But taking Marshall to ground isn't like stealing candy from a child. Sure Larha might be better wrestler, but this is MMA and so Larha has to walk trough Marshall's lethal kicks before he can even try taking Marshall down. As you all might guess, this fights result depends on if Larha will get Marshall down. Larha has been KO'd before so I personally think Marshall will look for early highlight-reel finish by high kick. If that kick doesn't miss, fight might be over very soon. But if he misses and Larha sees the opportunity to take him down, we might see this one ending via submission. Ronny Johnson (2-0) v Kenny McGrimshaw (1-0) WW-division As I am writing this, my friend from London who was watching McGrimshaw train called me. He told me shoking news, McGrimshaw looks tired and his fighting morale seems also kinda low. I personally talked to Johnson today and he seems to be in top shape and looking to take his first victory by knock-out this weekend. And to be honest, if McGrimshaw doesn't get some rest before the fight, this might be one-sided banging. But let's hope McGrimshaw gets his act together and comes from London to show us his submission skills. Still, I have to give this one to Johnson. a "The Alphabet Man" b (2-0) v Ripa "Vissiin" Saranapuolella (1-0) MW-division In this fight The Alphabet Man, with two submission victories is faced against Vissiin, who has only fought once and that ended in first round when Vissiin TKO'd his opponent. A B is the more well rounded fighter, who doesn't care if the fight is done on the ground or standing, but this time he sould avoid standup-war. Vissiin is coming from camp "Olen haitaria soitteleva nekrofiilipianisti". Their actions make Team Jackson's nipple tweakings seem like most normal thing to do. But when the cage door closes, Vissiin is all business. I believe Vissiin has keys to victory here. He has good enough wrestling to keep this fight standing and is definately the better boxer here. But, as always... This is MMA and nothing is sure until winners hand is raised (assuming referee isn't Dan Miragliotta.) Peter Haage (1-0) v Mauricio "Pitbull" Makleiz (1-0) LW-division I think this LW bout might be stand-up fight that traditional Amsterdam fight fans will appreciate. Peter Haage is the better grappler here, but I don't see him finishing this one on the ground because he wasn't able to do anything on ground in his first fight. He might try to make this clinch-war, since he was quite successful beating his opponent in clinch. Oppponent that had superb MT. But if this fight stays out of clinch Mauricio will probably punch his way to victory. But we can be sure that both fighters will do their best, they are both fresh fighters, hence looking to impress matchmakers and crowd. I won't even try to pick winner on this one. Simon Adebisi (1-1) v Justyn Smith (3-5) SHW-division SHW fight with Adebisi and Smith is going to be interesting, that's for sure. Adebisi is coming to this fight after suffering disappointing TKO loss to MT specialist who has now 4-0 record. That fight has created lots of discussion afterwards, that 3-0 fighter against 1-0 fighter was unfair match-up. But Adebisi doesn't want to comment on that, he says that his higlight KO this Sunday will make everyone forget that he has ever lost a fight. But Smith is also fed up losing fights. In his career he has had devastating 5 fight losing streak. After that this Canadian fighter has managed to pull two wins, both by (T)KO. He said that he has lost enough fights for one career, and will never lose again. Well, we will see, but sure thing is that he will not give up easily. Sadly, we have also heard that his also been overtraining for this match. Lets hope he takes enough time to recover before Sunday, so we will se him perfoming at his best.
  4. http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1282147517Sauna1.jpg We are proud to announce our first event Welcome to Sauna, which will be held 27th of August in The Underground Arena, Amsterdam! And now to the preview: All fights are non-title fights with three five minute rounds Jesus Pope vs. Rutger Van Dijk SHW-division And what a main event we have for our first show! Jesus Pope comes to fight with impressive record of seven wins and only one loss. His only loss was in April when he challenged Boris Metusalem for NFC's (#1 org in Helsinki) SHW-championship belt. After that he has destroyed two opponents. One of them is currently NFC SHW champion! Both wins came before full time by G'n'P. But his opponent Van Dijk has what Joe Rogan would call "sick ground game!" After destroying SFO Amsterdam's SHW division, where he won three title fights in a row, Van Dijk has signed with Sauna Fights to seek for some new challenge. Van Dijk has won all his five fights. Every fight has been over before even going to the third round. He has shown that he can submit on ground and it doesn't matter if he is on his back or on top. And he's G'n'P is just awesome. His hits land on ground with 70% accuracy, which is amazing taking into account that those are really hard bombs that he throws. It's hard to predict winner in this one. If Van Dijk manages to get Pope on his back then Pope might be in trouble. And if the fight stays standing it's really anyone's guess what the result is, because neither of these fighters have really shown what they are capable on their feet. John Matrix vs. Pau Nadal HW-division In this fight, altough Matrix (1-0) has won his only match by G'n'P he might look to keep the fight standing. His first opponent had totally useless ground game, but this time he is facing guy who has his both wins via submission. Which is quite impressive considering that Pau Nadal (2-1) only has blue belt in BJJ. But as we have seen so many times before, belts don't always tell the whole story of fighters ground skills. Nadal has been knocked out once before, so that's something remarkable boxer Matrix might look to try in this match. If it stays standing, I'll have to give it to Matrix, but if Nadal manages to get it to ground then I think he has good chance to win. Rankka Ankka vs. big fat LHW-division One thing is for sure. This fight will stay standing. Big "Slob" Fat (2-1-1) is clearly more experienced mma-fighter of these two and hasn't lost a fight since his pro-debut. But he hasn't been able to finish any of his opponents, so we will see if this changes on 27th. Altough his opponent Rankka Ankka (0-0) makes his pro-debut in this fight, it's really not the first time he is in a fight. Coming from Malmi, violent suburb of Helsinki, he has had to defend his honour against local gypsy-population. In streets of Malmi his vicious left high kick has made him famous and feared. Since nobody wants to fight him anymore in the streets, he called us at Sauna Fights if we could arrange him pro fights, so he can prove that he is more than just a street fighter. And that was more than ok for "Slob" who looks to get his first KO against Helsinki's "street-phenom". This fight I'm not even going to predict winner. Stats speak for "Slob" but broken jaws treated in Malmi hospital emergency room speak for Ankka. Whatever Man v Mark J Shields LHW-division In this fight Whatever Man (2-1) from Belarus is seeking to submit hometown hero Mark J Shields (0-0). Whatever Man comes to this fight with two fight win streak, both wins by 1st round submissions. But his problem is that he is quite one dimensional fighter. Mark J Shields who is looking to impress home town crowd in his first fight is more well rounded fighter, but lacks the experience of Whatever. I think Whatever will take this, because he and his corner are more experienced. But I wouldn't be surprised if Shields knocks Whatever out early in the first, because Whatever has serious holes on his stand-up game.
  5. http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1282500132saunalogo.jpg Hello everyone As many managers who have fighters in Amsterdam or in nearby cities may have noticed there is a new well and truly active org. That org is Sauna Fights. Sauna Fights is owned by three superbly active veteran members of FinnFighters, and we also have Dan Early working for us, guy behind Crashforce.
