155 lbs Gegard Mocassins vs Victor Putznaya

Winner: Gerard Mocassins by unanimous decision.

265+ lbs SB Supporter vs Trainer Box

Winner: SB Supporter by KO (Head Kick) at 01:22 of round 1.

185 lbs Mikko Rourke vs Aragorn Arathorm

Winner: Mikko Rourke by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Luca Blight vs Randy Savage

Winner: Luca Blight by KO (Strikes) at 03:01 of round 1.

170 lbs Perrin Jones vs Caleb Reimer

Winner: Perrin Jones by unanimous decision.

155 lbs Aitch Bubbles vs Viktor Sol

The main card fired off with a solid beatdown. While Sol could take the fight to the ground, he was unable to stay there. Both of his successful takedown attempts ended up with referee standups in about a minute after the takedown. The inability to keep the fight on the ground then spelled his doom – he was unable to cause any damage there while he was constantly getting pummeled in the standup. A tough loss for Sol indeed.

Winner: Aitch Bubbles by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Lostma Braincells vs Ken Banners

As opposed to the previous fight, this one was extremely close. Banners started great in the first round, getting a lot of hits in and stopping Braincells ground and pound attempts on the ground. The other rounds weren’t so cheerful for Banners through – Braincells started to clinch up with him while in the clinch he was completely dominating. Banners couldn’t quite find the answer to the clinch so he lost the other 2 rounds due to it. 29-28 for Braincells.

Winner: Lostma Braincells by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Mickey Rodriguez vs Roland McGregor

Poor McGregor, he sure ate a ton of hits in this match. In the striking McGregor didn’t really attempt much, not that he had the time as Rodriguez was always fast to clinch. Once he got into the clinch, Rodriguez completely dominated with 100% striking accuracy, leaving McGregor completely exhausted and thus unable to do anything even when he finally made it to the ground. McGregor did land some ground and pound after his successful takedown, but that was way too little compared to the barrages he took in the standup and the clinch.

Winner: Mickey Rodriguez by unanimous decision.

135 lbs JP Greywar vs Alberto Lopez

The champion showed his overwhelming defense in this matchup. Lopez was unable to land nearly anything in the striking phase and notice that the match took 5 rounds – he really made plenty of attempts. Not getting damaged by the striking, Greywar had all the time and comfort he needed to take the match to the ground. Once on the ground, he was completely dominant. He couldn’t quite get the finishing blow quickly, but he simply kept trying before he succeeded, ending the match under 1 and half minute before the decision. And impressive match by Greywar.

Winner: JP Greywar by TKO (Strikes) at 03:37 of round 5.

205 lbs John L Sullivan IV vs Sun Wukong

While in the previous match the champion showed impenetrable defense, in this match the champion showed overwhelming KO power. Strikes hit wise, they were about equal with Wukong getting 9 in while Sullivan getting 11. But quality wise, they were simply on a different level – with the 10th hit Sullivan only half-hit Wukong, but that was enough to rock him. The following 11th hit was a straight stone-cold KO with nothing left to be said. What is the most puzzling thing about the match is the fact that Wukong didn’t even attempt to clinch. That will remain a mystery to everyone through, as even his manager – me – doesn’t have the slightest idea how did that happen.

Winner: John L Sullivan IV by KO (Punch) at 04:37 of round 1.

AXF 49 Preview

185 lbs Sero Kim vs Matt Silva

Two veteran fighters took the job of starting our main card tonight. Kim is an exceptionally well rounded fighter, who has literally tried everything you can during a real fight. This versatility will certainly be his biggest asset tonight, because while Silva has a great standup and ground game, he is lacking real experience from the clinch game so Kim will eventually want to test him in that area. However, it is not very likely that the match will be singlehandedly decided by the clinch, so expect a lot of movement among various positions through the fight.

265 lbs Andrus Orlhovki vs Bernard Blake

Orlhovkis wrestling is unimpressive at best, but that definitely is not the case for his takedowns as he has an incredible 88% takedown success rate. Sure, he does not try them very often but apparently when he wants to, he succeeds. Although in this match he might not exactly want to take it to the ground – while he is the worse boxer here, Blake both tends to prefer the ground and has a rather unorthodox style of preferring punch combos over other strikes. Simply countering the punch combos could prove to be the easiest victory to pull off for Orlhovki.

145 lbs John The Butcher vs Darren King

Neither fighter has yet to fight in a clinch so odds are, they will not start now. With that being said, King is the typical one dimensional boxer, who has a really good KO power – all his 8 wins are by a KO and not so good chin – both his losses are by a KO. Butcher is a touch more versatile with takedowns being a part of his repertoire. So while he would like to occasionally try a takedown, he cannot really swing all the way for that as if he wouldn’t land the first few, he would simply exhaust himself. Therefore, we are going to see a violent striking match in which whoever finds the opponents chin faster, wins.

185 lbs Drizzt Do Urden vs Tane Te Rauparaha

This is practically a mirror match. Both fighters have no offense on the ground and are more comfortable with muay thai than with boxing. Either way, I doubt either of them will want to take it to the ground for anything more than harvesting points, so look forward to a striking battle in muay thai style. The most interesting part will be the clinch – while Urdens clinch strategy so far has been to escape to the ground through a takedown, Rauparaha has a solid clinch game with both elbows and knees being ready to be used. This will also be the key to the match – if Urden cant escape the clinch quickly, he is likely to get hammered in it.

170 lbs Bald Bull vs Nai Khanom Tom

Slaughterhouses are usually used exquisitely for cows, but this time it looks like we have a bull walking into one. Tom has an overwhelming advantage in the standup phase while he is not worse in the ground game. Still, the ability to take it to the ground is going to be absolutely key for this match as Bulls chances anywhere else are purely theoretical. With that being said, even if he gets to the ground he will have to be very careful there – Tom is more than ready to sweep from the bottom and change the successful takedown into his own advantage. So the mission for Bull is simple – survive the striking, get takedown, stay on top no matter what, hammer Tom into the ground with ground and pound. Should he fail at any point through this plan, he will likely lose.

135 lbs Wacko Warner vs Rob Roy

Winner: Wacko Warner by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Hank Reardon vs Jack Napier

Winner: Hank Reardon by TKO (Strikes) at 04:35 of round 2.

170 lbs Jason Montros vs Me Myself Irene

Winner: Jason Montros by Submission (RNC) at 04:27 of round 2.

265 lbs Bernard Blake vs Andrus Orlhovki

Winner: Bernard Blake by KO (Strikes) at 00:46 round 2.

145 lbs Leroy Goins vs Larry Glover

Winner: Leroy Goins by TKO (Strikes) at 01:39 of round 3.

265+ lbs Xtreme MMA vs Lil James Thunderstruck

The opening match sure was a simple one. Thunderstruck somewhat couldnt find his pace and never recovered – he didn’t land anything but 1 lousy head punch while MMA was doing whatever he wanted – he hit with absolutely everything aside from 1 punch combo and a takedown attempt. He sent Thunderstruck down to the mat with a combo, followed and immediately nailed him with a massive hammerfist, leaving Thunderstruck out cold like if he was struck by a thunder.

Winner: Xtreme MMA by KO (Strikes) at 01:03 of round 1.

145 lbs Darren King vs John The Butcher

Granite chin is a really nice thing to have. But it cant help when the fighter keeps getting pummelled without fighting back – Butcher only attempted 6 strikes in the match, which looks really weak compared to Kings 30. The result follows from this statistic – Kings strikes eventually piled on and referee couldn’t help it but stop the ongoing onslaught.

Winner: Darren King by TKO (Strikes) at 01:56 of round 1.

185 lbs Matt Silva vs Sero Kim

Finally we get some fighters with easy names. Too bad the match wasn’t any more complicated than the names – Kim was completely unable to stop Silvas clinch game, which ended up with him eating about 70 strikes in it with only little fighting back. Kim did land some good strikes, some even in the clinch which managed to cut Silva, but the quality wasn’t quite enough to do anything about the quantity of Silvas strikes. Silva also landed a couple of takedowns, but that didn’t really amount to much as the round ended soon after the first one and the ref stood them up after the 2nd one. A dominant victory for Matt Silva.

Winner: Matt Silva by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Tane Te Rauparaha vs Drizzt Do Urden

Urden really wanted to land a head kick in this match. He tried it by far the most times from all the strikes available and it simply didn’t work. The head kicks didn’t land, which let him open to strikes of Rauparaha. If that wasn’t bad enough, there was also the clinch – Rauparaha was completely dominating it. When getting hammered in striking and being unable to escape in the clinch, Urden really didn’t have much to do which resulted in a cut by elbow KO.

Winner: Tane Te Rauparaha by TKO (Cut) at 03:04 of round 2.

170 lbs Nai Khanom Tom vs Bald Bull

Bull did surprisingly well considering he walked into the slaughter house. He wasn’t getting hit too much or too hard from the start and even managed to land a takedown. Too bad for him the takedown was so late in the round – he had only a little over a minute to do something with it. He still tried quite a few strikes and a couple of submissions, but Tom was too unharmed to be phased by it. Once the round ended, it was all over for Bull. Exhausted from the 1st round, he couldn’t accomplish anything in the second one and Tom leisurely hammered him until his lights went out after a beautiful right straight.

Winner: Nai Khanom Tom by KO (Punches) at 03:16 of round 2.

185 lbs Chris Porter vs Lachlan Anderson

Winner: Chris Porter by TKO (Strikes) at 03:54 of round 1.

135 lbs Todd Maxwell vs Lee Leeson

Winner: Todd Maxwell by Submission (Triangle) at 01:52 of round 1.

205 lbs Thomas Pusher vs Casper Orion

Winner: Thomas Pusher by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Ivan Borisov vs Joe Slow

Winner: Ivan Borisov by KO (Strikes) at 04:57 of round 1.

265 lbs Shane Carwin vs Zach Morgan

Winner: Shane Carwin by unanimous decision.

145 lbs Charles Manson vs Harrison King

The opening match of our main card was an explosive one. King definitely walked into the cage with his left foot today as he missed his first couple of strikes and ended up getting heavily punished for it. Manson didn’t let even the slightest opportunity slip as he mercilessly hammered Manson with leg kicks and punches, King tried to bounce back by a takedown but it failed as his legs were already quite damaged. The finish didn’t take long, as King couldn’t do anything to slow Manson down he got KOed in under 2 minutes.

Winner: Charles Manson by KO (Punch) at 01:35 of round 1.

170 lbs Cletus Kasady vs Carmine Hawkins

Hawkins has one hell of a granite chin and we could see it once again. Although he might have wished to not have it for a bit in this match – the amount of punishment he took was simply overwhelming. As Hawkins never got his game quite going, Kasady was quite free to land his strikes and that’s exactly what he did. Kasady attempted about 229 strikes and landed 185 out of them. Judges then had a rather easy job making the decision as Kasady was simply overwhelming tonight.

Winner: Cletus Kasady by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Alec Dimanche vs Rice Farmer Lady

If there is something you can say about Dimanche from this match, it is that he knows how to block head and body kicks. He avoided all 6 which Lady tried and that singlehandedly won him the match, because the failed kicks left Lady out of position. That resulted in Dimanche landing easy shots, pouring damage on Lady. With the kicks not landing, Lady wasn’t really doing anything to slow Dimanche down, resulting in a quick TKO which was only a logical follow up of previous knockdown which rocked Lady.

Winner: Alec Dimanche by TKO (Strikes) at 00:58 of round 1.

185 lbs Goguryeo Kim vs Staltz Volkof

While kicks didn’t quite land in the previous match, it was the other way around this time – Kim landed almost every kick he attempted. Since he went for the exhaustion strategy, it was mostly leg kicks and body punches that he threw at Volkof. The damage to his stamina quickly pilled on, resulting in Volkof being unable to do anything significant. The fact that Volkof went combo heavy didn’t exactly help him either – as he spent most of his time hitting air.

Winner: Staltz Volkof by unanimous decision.

170 lbs Villi Kotobalavu vs Jamie Greywar

When you say “nothing really happened”, in MMA you would refer to this match. Both fighters went super heavy on counter, resulting in neither of them really doing anything. Since Kotobalavu was the bigger and heavier guy, he had quite an advantage in the almost mirror strategies. Nobody tried the clinch, Greywar tried some takedowns but only like a couple of them through the whole fight. Overall Greywar approached the bigger and heavier opponent carefully, while Kotobalavu played it as safe as possible. As the result nothing really happened - the lack of action is best illustrated by the fight rating of 8%.

Winner: Villi Kotobalavu by unanimous decision.

145 lbs Karel Gil vs Bill Pharoni

Winner: Karel Gil by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Willy Sanchez vs Jason Penl

Winner: Willy Sanchez by Submission (Kneebar) at 00:47 of round 2.

265+ lbs Sione Finau vs LeRoy Jenkins

Winner: Sione Finau by TKO (Strikes) at 04:57 of round 2.

265 lbs Ales Zhandunka vs Oupa Nieminen

Winner: Ales Zhandunka by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Jeff Spicoli vs Jimmy Blair

Winner: Jeff Spicoli by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Flex Dynomite vs Jason Glover

Glover put up quite a fight. He jumped into the fight aggressively and stormed Dynomite with large series of punches. But Dynomite wasn’t too thrilled about it – he calmly dodged almost all of Glovers strikes and hit him back. The situation where Dynomite landed almost everything and Glover almost nothing wasn’t something that could go on for very long and it didn’t – Glover got all his stamina drained and finally succumbed to the strikes close to 4 minute mark of round 1.

Winner: Flex Dynomite by TKO (Strikes) at 03:45 of round 1.

185 lbs Arnaud Savage vs Nate Knuckles

Striking defence, that’s something Savage definitely has. He easily neutralized the strikes of Knuckles and even got some of his own strikes in. It was kick to be precise. Without doing any amount of damage, it was only a matter of time before Savage could take it to the ground. To his luck, that happened at the very beginning of round 2 so he had plenty of time to work in. And that he did, he relentlessly attempted to advance his position or to do a submission, Knuckles was defending well, but it was only a matter of time before he could no longer do so.

Winner: Arnaud Savage by Submission (Armbar) at 03:04 of round 2.

265 lbs Russell Jackman vs Stuey Ungar

Ungar is not going to be proud of this match. He couldn’t do much in the striking, but he did manage to get into the clinch relatively quickly. There he could have simply fought the knees vs punches battle, which is really good for knees and do just fine. Now instead of that he quickly broke out from the clinch and that virtually sealed his fate as he didn’t get a chance from that point forward. Jackman took him to the ground where he softened him with punches. He was only stood up by the end of the round. In the round 2 he simply stormed weakened Ungar by strikes and it didn’t take long before Ungar got taken out by that.

Winner: Russell Jackman by TKO (Strikes) at 01:15 of round 2.

155 lbs Luke Fluke vs Jake Walker

This was one nasty fight. Walker was completely unable to stop Fluke or slow him down in any way. He didn’t land hits, he couldn’t avoid clinch and he was unsuccessful at preventing Flukes strikes. Fluke on the other hand did the exact opposite – he hammered Walker with strikes, mauled him through clinch and avoided his strikes with easy. It took only half a round before Walker got overwhelmed and lost.

Winner: Luke Fluke by TKO (Strikes) at 02:29 of round 1.

145 lbs Tad Ghostal vs Geronimo Malkind

This match wasn’t very long but they sure did put up one hell of a show. Malking quickly landed a takedown right after he got rocked. Not only it allowed him to recover from the previous strikes he got, but he also got the chance to apply some pressure. He tried to do that but Ghostal wasn’t very impressed by it – he defended most strikes, all sub attempts and most position advances. Ghostal also tried some counter offense but it didn’t amount to anything. After the equal round 1, Ghostal went into the round 2 with a ton of bloodlust. And the champions blood he got – he landed a ton of strikes, mostly on Malkinds face which caused a ton of damage on Malkind and eventually earned him a TKO by the end of the 2nd round.

Winner: Tad Ghostal by TKO (Strikes) at 04:13 of round 2.

AXF Friday night Fights 41 Preview

265 lbs Frank Mir vs Baldur Eirikur

Can a bjj blue belt stop a bjj black belt on the ground? We will see the answer to this question pretty soon as that is what we are going to see in this match – Mir is an experienced bjj black belt and will be definitely looking forward to taking Eirikur down and showing his bjj skills off. He will not have it easy though – Eirikur is the better wrestler here so he will heavily oppose that notion and try to keep the fight on the feet. He also has a solid weapon to deploy in the striking – his great ko power and world class boxing is what makes Mirs clock tick.

265 lbs Vin Ner vs Silver Boo

After the ground game oriented matchup, we get a striking one. Both fighters are equal in terms of wrestling and bjj, so neither of them should have any significant advantage should the fight get to the ground. It’s a different story with striking through – Vin Ner is a skilled Muay Thai user while Boo is a pure boxer. That gives Ner a great opportunity to punish Boo with leg kicks and operate through clinch – a place where his elbows and knees will shine. Boo, on the other hand, will look to beat the soul out of Ner as quickly as possible – before he can escape from the striking distance to clinch or to the ground.

265 lbs Bip Bop vs Bruce Almighty

This will be a great match between two promising fighter. Bop is a greatly talented young fighter with a monstrous ko power, but this time he will face a real challenge – Almighty is a great Muay Thai artist with about as much ko power as Bop. He has a bit underwhelming ground game but that matters little in this match – Bop has yet to try a takedown and odds are, he will rather look to score a KO than to explore new areas and attempt takedowns. Either way, this will be a striking battle to behold.

205 lbs Gary Indiana vs Dane Stuart

Enough of striking, time for some takedowns! Indiana is a great wrestler and an even better bjj practitioner so there is little doubt about where he wants to take the match. But in order to do that, he will need his legs fully functioning – something Stuart will want to take a look at with his kicks. Stuarts ability to slow Indiana down will be critical to this match, because if he gets taken down without doing any prior damage, he will be in a lot of trouble.

185 lbs Chuck Fuck Tito vs Kha Ri

Its time for the main event of the evening and it will be a middle weight title match. Tito is a fresh champion, who took the title in a dominant fashion and is no doubt eager to prove his worth again. Ri doesn’t look like he is going to be intimidated through – he matches Titos skills perfectly and will thus be looking forward to an even match. His main weapon will be the clinch – Tito has some experience with the clinch, he even has 100% hit rate at that but that is still nothing compared to the amount of clinch mauling Ri has done in his career. The clinch will be the turning point of this match – should Tito be able to prevent it and/or keep up in it, he will have a great chance of defending the title through winning in the striking.

185 lbs Marshall Arts vs Mahut Uno

Winner: Marshall Arts by Submission (Guillotine) at 04:01 of round 2.,

265 lbs Frank Mir vs Baldur Eirikur

This fight took almost full 2 rounds, but to be honest Eirikur didn’t have much say in it. The thing is, Mirs takedowns are not your average takedowns – when he jumps at you he does, as the name of the action suggests, take you down. With no discussion – here again he landed all of his takedowns, which was pretty much it for Eirikur. Once on the ground, Mir was simply dominating and he had it quite easy at that – Eirikur was frantically trying to improve his position, which only left him open to ground and pound, counter advances and finally a submission. Still, submission victory is something we haven’t seen for a while on the main card.

Winner: Frank Mir by Submission (Triangle Choke) at 04:26 of round 2.

265 lbs Silver Boo vs Vin Ner

The two rounds couldn’t have been more different. In round 1, both fighters were fighting around in the striking distance and attempting takedowns. Ner was the one who had success with it – he landed the first takedown of the match and used it to deal a massive amount of damage. He attempted some submissions as well, but no luck this time. Boo kept his head calm, recovered during the inter-round break and changed his gameplan – he went for the clinch in round 2. That was a game winning decision for him – Ner was unable to do anything once in the clinch and just got hammered. Boo finished with a spectacular KO – after Ner finally broke out of the clinch and attempted a takedown, Boo countered with a beautiful knee right in the face.

Winner: Silver Boo by KO (Knee) at 01:35 of round 2.

265 lbs Bip Bop vs Bruce Almighty

This one was fast, under one minute to be precise so it was actually really fast. Almighty turned out not to be so mighty when it comes to striking accuracy – he couldn’t really land any strikes and Bop took advantage of that by beating him up when the inaccurate kicks left Almighty open. That couldn’t go on for very long as Almighty quickly accumulated damage in his face without any real success from his side. Bop used the momentum and landed a great looking KO just before the 1 minute mark.

Winner: Bip Bop by TKO (Strikes) by 00:55 of round 1.

205 lbs Gary Indiana vs Dane Stuart

Stuart came into the fight with a smart plan – slow Indiana down with leg kicks and then knock him out with punches. Unfortunately for him, Indiana wasn’t phased by the initial strikes and proceeded to do a really cool clinch into instant takedown. It succeeded on the 2nd attempt but it was really impressive nonetheless. On the ground Stuart didn’t have much say in whats going to happen – Indiana simply didn’t let him and kept on pouring strikes on his face. In round 2 Indiana left the tricks behind and took the match with force – he took Stuart down, softened him with punches and then submitted him. Truly a textbook approach and flawlessly executed at that.

Winner: Garry Indiana by Submission (Arm Triangle) at 02:53 of round 2.

185 lbs Kha Ri vs Chuck Fuck Tito

Huge stamina, that’s what Ri has. He attempted almost 300 strikes over the 5 rounds and he didn’t get gassed or exhausted. The fact that he landed most of them certainly helped him, but that doesn’t change anything about how good stamina does Ri have. Tito was quite surprised by the never ending barrage of kicks and punches and decided to focus on stopping of the clinch attempts while going for quality over quantity when it comes to strikes. Sadly for him, the strikes he landed were nowhere near enough to stop Ri and as the match proceeded to approach the judge decision, the situation looked more and more grim for Tito. And grimly it ended – the difference in the amount of strikes landed was simply overwhelming, so judges had an easy job electing Ri the new champion.

Winner: Kha Ri by unanimous decision.

135 lbs Alberto Lopez vs Chopper Reid

Lopez has a bjj brown belt, but its not like he is in any rush to actually use it – he has yet to attempt a standing takedown and has only very rarely attempted it from the clinch. So while the difference in bjj might look scary for Reid, there isn’t much to worry about for him. Leaving ground game aside, neither fighter is particularly active when it comes to clinch so there is only one place these two will fight – the striking. They are both skilled boxers and able muay thai users. So it will be a lot of punching with some occasional kicks. There is one thing to look for, Reid has a thing for punch combos – he attempts them a lot, lands them a lot and takes his wins through them. Odds are, he will try them again.

265+ lbs Patrick Stettin vs SB Supporter

Wrestler vs muay thai user, this one will be decided quickly – if Stetting can get the fight to the ground before his legs take too much damage, he will be in a very good shape to win the match. If hes not, well, we all know how it looks like when a muay thai artist gets to do his thing. An interesting point will be the start of the 2nd round – should neither fighter finish It in the first round, they are likely to be fairly exhausted and thus it might be quite difficult for Stettin to land another takedown. Should he be unable to do that, Supporter really wont need more than a minute to pick him apart.

265 lbs Maniacal Styles vs Ken Banners

All the muay thai artists have broken lose in Sydney tonight – we got another of them fighting once again. Styles has exactly 1 trick in his book – kicks, head kicks to be precise. Banners knows this and has one main goal for this match – to avoid the head kicks of Styles. Should he be able to do that, he will have plenty of opportunities to hammer him with his fists. Either way, this will likely be a very short match with an explosive ending.

205 lbs Sun Wukong vs Roland McGregor

Talking about muay thai specialists, here comes another one – Sun Wukong. Much like the previous fighters, he is primarily focused on kicks. While he eventually throws a punch or two, its still all about kicks with him. Should he get enough space to land a bunch of leg kicks, he will be fine. Too bad for him, it wont be that easy – McGregor will have none of that and will simply look to take the match to the ground. Given his superior wrestling skills, odds are he will succeed. Then it will be all about Wukongs ability to survive before the bell rings or referee stands them up, because there is little he can do once on the ground.

265 lbs Lostma Braincells vs Emilio Ramos

After three matches of kicking, we finally get some change. It will be all about punches in this one. Sure, Brancells has his a takedown or two before but in this match he doesn’t really have any advantage should he take it to the ground and more importantly, he has no reason to do. He is every bit as capable as Ramos when it comes to the standup fighting so odds are he wont look to explore new grounds and simply use his strongest assets instead. An interesting point of this match might be the clinch – neither fighter has particularly effective clinch game as far as the previous matches go, so one of them just might want to test his opponent in this regard.

170 lbs Thiago Alves vs Lemmy Ramirez

Winner: Thiago Alves by TKO (Strikes) at 00:56 of round 1.

155 lbs Viktor Sol vs Yogi Bear

Winner: Viktor Sol by unanimous decision.

155 lbs Barry Scott vs Gegard Mocassins

Winner: Barry Scott by TKO (Strikes) at 02:31 of round 2.

185 lbs Gary Dove vs Mikko Rourke

Winner: Gary Dove by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Kook Connor vs Joe Higashi

Winner: Kook Connor by unanimous decision.

135 lbs Alberto Lopez vs Chopper Reid

Tale of the tape deems Lopez has lethal high kicks. Too bad they forgot tell him, because he didn’t attempt a single one during the match. Its not that he needed to use them through – he comfortably out boxed Reid with a flurry of punches, which drained a lot from Reid and gave Lopez plenty of space. He used that space to clinch and that turned out to be the single best strategy for the match – Reid didn’t really know how to react to it so he just ended up getting hammered.

Winner: Alberto Lopez by TKO (Strikes) at 04:59 of round 1.

265+ lbs Patrick Stettin vs SB Supporter

Supporter really has a granite chin like no other, although this time he might have wished not to have it. The whole story of the match was decided by Stettins takedowns – they landed. Every single time. Not that it was many times since 3 takedowns is all it takes for 3 rounds. Once on the ground, Stettin was simply dominating with superior ground and pound, which left Supporter lying down on the ground thinking hard if he should give up or lie for some time more and get hit a bit more. He chose the latter and its exactly what he got – the score 30:25 on all 3 judges cards is self explanatory.

Winner: Patrick Stettin by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Maniacal Styles vs Ken Banners

Banners knew that kicks will be coming at him in this match, but apparently there was little he could do about it. Styles went for a swarm of accurate kicks and it definitely did pay off. Banners, on the other hand, went for high power punches, which ended up being not the best choice – while he did manage to cut styles with his jabs, he could do little else as all the kicks he got hit by left him stunned and therefore unable to do anything. He had some success with the clinch, but it was way too little to turn the tide of the match.

Winner: Maniacal Styles by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Sun Wukong vs Roland McGregor

Takedown defense, it is something Wukong has. Its not that McGregors takedowns were weak or something like that, no, his takedowns are great but Wukongs defense was up to par with them. Without being able to take the match to the ground right off the bat, McGregor found himself in a difficult position – striking against a better striker. Wukong solved McGregors dilemma through and simply took the fight to the clinch. Once in it, there was little McGregor was able to do and kept getting hit by knees and punches. McGregor had one really nice pull guard attempt, but Wukongs takedown defence once again kicked in and saved the day for him. McGregor could take the punishment only for so long, especially while getting hit by knees to the face, repeatedly. One of the knees proved to be fatal to him and ended the match in the middle of round 1.

Winner: Sun Wukong by KO (Knee) at 02:01 of round 1.

265 lbs Emilio Ramos vs Lostma Braincells

Well, Braincells might not have planned this match too well. He fired of with a body shot spam, which quickly turned into being very predictable and an experienced fighter like Ramos had no trouble in doing just that and thus avoiding any major damage and landing some of his own strikes. That wouldn’t have been so bad, if Brancells didn’t decide to “escape” to the ground. That’s where all hell broke lose – they both went for an almost identical strategy, but Ramos turned out to be a level better at it. Braincells attempted 14 position advances and 14 ground and pound strikes, but he landed just 1 from each. Ramos, on the other hand, didn’t mess around and landed 22 out of 22 ground and pound strikes with 3 out of 4 position advances to boot. Braincells really couldn’t take that much damage, so after the start of round 3 only little was needed to knock him out.

Winner: Emilio Ramos by KO (Punch) at 00:54 of round 3.

205 lbs Luca Blight vs Akio Kurosaki

Blight is an extremely well rounded and well trained fighter. But this is still going to be a great test for him – Kurosaki is a totally one dimensional specialist, which just happens to be the right type of a fighter to beat the well rounded types. The key aspect will therefore be the clinch – Kurosakis plan is dead simple: get to the clinch, stay there and murder Blight with his vicious elbows. Blight, on the other hand, has a multitude of strategies. He can either avoid the clinch and win the striking, avoid the clinch and take it down or not avoid the clinch and beat Kurosaki at his own game.

185 lbs Matt Silva vs Xander Arapeta

The second match of the evening looks a lot like the first one – Arapeta is a muay thai specialists who just happens to prefer the clinch like Kurosaki while Silva is a very well rounded fighter, much like Blight is. The strategies are therefore going to be quite the same – Silva will look to avoid the clinch and either go create some value to the ground or simply attempt to win in the striking. The latter is going to be quite difficult for him through – Arapeta has great kicks while Silvas muay thai isn’t exactly great, so he might be quite undefended when it comes to kick offense.

145 lbs Benton Styles vs Larry Glover

This fight is going to be quite different from the previous ones - a much more balanced in all aspects. While Styles has Glover quite outmatched when it comes to muay thai, it seems like Styles isn’t quite used to the classical muay thai weapons – kicks and the clinch. Glover is actually the more experienced fighter when it comes to the clinch, so he might counter intuitively go for the clinch instead. Striking wise, if Styles can pull off effective kicks, he might have quite an advantage. Otherwise he could be in trouble as Glovers focus on punches may prove to be quite deadly.

145 lbs Darren King vs Leroy Goins

After three striking oriented matches, we finally get some change – this one will be all about takedowns and subsequent ground game. Goins is a beast when it comes to wrestling and bjj, so he will no doubt attempt to take advantage of these assets of his and try to take the fight to the ground. That also defines Kings strategy quite well – he pretty much has to beat the hell out of Goins in the striking phase. Otherwise he has no chance as it seems highly unlikely that he will win in the clinch or on the ground.

205 lbs Tairy Greene vs Mickey Rodriguez

The title match of the night will combine the two key aspects of all previous matches – takedowns and clinch. Greene would really like to take it down to the ground, where his powerful ground and pound would be a great thread to Rodriguez. Sure, Rodriguez has very decent defence when it comes to the ground and will thus not be an easy prey once taken down, but still he wont be able to make much of active play down on the ground. Where he wants to fight is the clinch. He has a truly impressive record of dominating the clinch so he will most likely look to do exactly that as well. There is little history of Greenes clinching skills so we will just have to wait for the match to see them.

265+ lbs Kacperniuski Demon vs Xplicit Powerhouse

Winner: Kacperniuski Demon by Submission (RNC) at 04:23 of round 1.

155 lbs Dallas Hall vs Suchart Chaowanungkarn

Winner: Dallas Hall by KO (Strikes) at 02:55 of round 1.

265+ lbs Lil James Thunderstruck vs Trainer Box

Winner: Lil James Thunderstruck by KO (Punches) by 00:25 of round 1.

205 lbs Luca Blight vs Akio Kurosaki ,

The opening fight of the main card was a long one. Although that doesn’t mean equal one – Blight completely dominated the striking phase, in the clinch and on the ground. Kurosaki was quite unable to find an answer to anything Blight did, so ended up taking a ton of hits without doing much of his own. The only place he seemed to fair well with was the clinch, but simply got taken down from it so he wasn’t able to take an advantage in there due to not having enough opportunity.

Winner: Luca Blight by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Matt Silva vs Xander Arapeta

After the one sided first fight we get a true battle in the second one. Arapeta started the match great, he stuffed some takedowns and used the opportunity to land a lot of strikes. Especially leg kicks were important as they drained Silvas ability to mount offense. Silva did get a takedown mid round, but he was unable to do anything there and the referee quickly stood them up. In the second round things looked the same grim for Silva again, but he mustered all his strength and managed to land a powerful takedown into side control. He used this one last opportunity to smash Arapeta into the ground and thus end the match with an explosive KO.

Winner: Matt Silva by TKO (Strikes) at 03:57 of round 2.

145 lbs Benton Styles vs Larry Glover

This match was an amazing slugfest. Both fighters went power heavy while head sniping, apparently trying to KO. Since they both have a great KO power, it is a wonder that match almost made it to the 2nd round. Almost, because Styles showed a great chin and thus took the barrage from Glover without taking too much damage, while his strikes definitely left their mark. The damage quickly piled up and ended with a violent KO.

Winner: Benton Styles by KO (Punch) at 04:30 of round 1.

145 lbs Leroy Goins vs Darren King

The match started with quite a standard and almost equal striking exchanges. Unfortunately for Goins, King wasn’t too happy with that so he took the fight to clinch. Going was quite unsure what to do there so he ended up eating some shots before he broke out from the clinch. Once again King wasn’t very happy with being in the striking distance, so he went for a takedown, which he got. And then BANG, he ended the match with 2 strikes. The first strike rocked Goins, the 2nd one finished him off. Just like that.

Winner: Leroy Goins by TKO (Strikes) at 01:29 of round 1.

205 lbs Mickey Rodriguez vs Tairy Greene

The light heavyweight title was a battle as close as it gets. Greene started of in a very powerful manner, when he got the takedown he wanted and then again after the referee stood them up. The referee standup nicely shows the problem of Greene in this match – he could take the fight to the ground, there he could land some ground and pound but he was simply unable to improve his position on the ground, so he never really got to doing too much damage to Rodriguez. That left Rodriguez in quite a good shape for the later rounds, where he took full advantage of it – starting from round 3 he simply overpowered Greene thanks to having lots of excess energy and thus he took the victory by a 48:47 decision.

Winner: Mickey Rodriguez by unanimous decision.

Winner: Wacko Warner by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Sero Kim vs Chris Porter Decision (Unanimous) 3 05:00

Winner: Sero Kim by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Shane Carwin vs Bernard Blake Decision (Unanimous) 3 05:00

Referee standup, Blake sure as hell doesn’t like that ruling now. He got 2 takedowns in this matchup, 1 from the striking and 1 from the clinch, but he spent less than a minute on ground in total. Now since ground was his main chance for winning, he ended up getting destroyed. The weapon of choice of Carwin was a clinch, where he purely dominated and kept going at it till the end of the match, where referees had no choice but to give him a well deserved victory.

Winner: Shane Carwin by unanimous decision.

265+ lbs Sione Finau vs Xtreme MMA Decision (Unanimous) 3 05:00

MMA landed 14 strikes, 4 takedowns and 1 position advance. Finau landed 15 strikes and 3 position advances. No clinchgame happened and both fighters got cut once. Now, how the hell did Finau win all 3 rounds on all 3 judges scoreboards? In some way, he managed to perfectly time all his successful actions in such a way, that he barely won the round and saved the rest for the other rounds. Still MMA is probably really pissed from this fight – its not that he was any less successful with his moves than his opponent, but he still got 30-27 UA loss.

Winner: Sione Finau by unanimous decision.

145 lbs Charles Manson vs Geronimo Malkind TKO (Head Kick) 1 01:58

After seeing the previous match, Manson decided that he is not going to let the judges to have any effect on the match. He flew in like a storm and struck Malkind with a barrage of powerful strikes. Malkind was unable to respond properly, so he just took damage and swung at thin air. That couldn’t go on for long, so Manson used the built up advantage and took Malkind out with a beautiful head kick.

Winner: Charles Manson by TKO (Head Kick) at 01:58 of round 1.

185 lbs Goguryeo Kim vs Staltz Volkof Decision (Unanimous) 3 05:00

Kim walked into the match with a clear strategy – exhaust the opponent with punches to the body and leg kicks and thus secure a win by decision. And he did exactly that through a perfect execution. But the match wasn’t as simple as that – Volkof also had his say, or at least tried to do so. His plan was to keep Kim at bay with precise strikes and beat him up in a clinch. Little did he suspect that the one who is going to get beaten up in a clinch is going to be him. We cannot see his face or face of his manager, when he finally clinched up and ended up getting hammered by punches without really landing anything, but it must have been priceless. With clinch turning out in Kims favour, he had no real opposition so he secured the victory.

Winner: Goguryeo Kim by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Alec Dimanche vs Russell Jackman TKO (Cut) 2 04:29

Talking about bad decisions during the previous match, we got another one right here. But before that, the striking battle was completely equal – Jackman landed more hits, but Dimanche had more power behind them so he caused more damage and managed to cut Jackman. Not that the striking took long – Jackman landed a powerful counter takedown early in round 1, getting himself an active position on the ground. He didn’t really manage to capitalize on it though, as one of his failed sub attempts ended up with a disaster – Dimanche got a sweep to side control. From there he quickly his Jackman with some ground and pound, cutting him as a result. In round 2 Jackman went for the clinch after the initial striking, which turned out great at first – Dimanche was quite unable to do anything there so he immediately ate a punch that cut him. Unfortunately for Jackman, he pulled guard as the next action. From bad situation in clinch Dimanche suddenly got to being at the top on the ground – an advantage he did not let go. A bit of ground and pound opened Jakcmans cut even further, forcing the referee to stop the match.

Winner: Alec Dimanche by TKO (Cut) at 04:29 of round 2.

170 lbs Jason Montros vs Carmine Hawkins

Winner: Jason Montros by Submission (Arm Triangle) at 02:18 of round 3.

205 lbs Thomas Pusher vs Forrest Griffin

By the skin of his teeth, thats how closely did Pusher win. The first round went well in his direction – he landed a ton of strikes, dodged the opponents strikes and once he got dragged to clinch, he took the opponent down without taking too much damage. On the ground he simply dominated and thus won the round comfortably. But from the 2nd round onwards, Griffin pulled himself together and started fighting up. Rounds 2 and 3 were quite similar – Pusher was dominating the striking while Griffin was dominating the clinch. The sole takedown that happened was quickly stood up by the ref. As the time between striking and clinch was divided almost equally, the judges judged these rounds at 10-10. From winning the first round, Pusher won the whole match.

Winner: Thomas Pusher by split decision.

185 lbs Jeff Spicoli vs Nate Knuckles

After the drawn out match, we get a much shorter one. Spicoli stormed into the cage without a slightest sign of mercy. Knuckles was quite unable to answer correctly, which ended with him taking a lot of hits without any rebuttal. That couldn’t go on for long, feeling the pressure Knuckles ducked into an uppercut which rocked him, following right hand from Spicoli then took him out.

Winner: Jeff Spicoli by TKO (Punches) at 01:59 of round 1.

265 lbs Stuey Ungar vs Rice Farmer Lady

Ungar had a great start – in the first 30 seconds, he managed to score 2 knockdowns, 1 cut and rocked Lady once, all in 3 punches. Lady somehow survived, but never really managed to come back to the match. While he did a great job with his kicks, Ungar simply kept taking the fight to the clinch, where he was easily overwhelming Lady. With no chance to stay out of the clinch, Lady could only suffer through the match until the end of the 3rd round, when the final bell rescued him.

Winner: Stuey Ungar by unanimous decision.

170 lbs Perrin Jones vs Cletus Kasady

Takedown defence, Kasady sure needs to work on that one. Jones took him down with his very first action of the match, which pretty much decided the outcome of the whole match. While Kasady did not get immediately murdered once on the ground, he still took a considerable amount of damage, which effectively crippled his abilities for a comeback once he got back to his feet. With the niggling damage, Kasady ended up losing the striking battle and also the clinch, which left him no place to hide. He still defended quite well, so Jones couldn’t finish him till late in the 3rd round, when he finally managed to break the defence of Kasady and land a submission.

Winner: Perrin Jones by Submission (Kimura) at 03:53 of round 3.

170 lbs Nai Khanom Tom vs Villi Kotobalavu

There are equal matches, where both fighters are perfectly equal. Then there are little to large advantages, where one fighter has a slight to large edge in one area. There are also huge advantages, when one fighter is vastly outmatched by his opponent. And then there are flying knee KOs. Tom didn’t give Kotobalavu a slightest sign of a chance as he dodged all his strikes and landed a quick series of huge kicks, which rocked, cut and knocked Kotobavalu down, respectively. The last 4th kick wasn’t quite going right, so turned it into a flying knee right to the temple, knocking helpless Kotobalavu out cold. Given the fact that he has moved on from our organization to Synchronicity, it was truly a fitting performance by Tom.

Winner: Nai Khanom Tom by KO (Flying Knee) at 00:56 of round 1.

Winner: by unanimous decision.

170 lbs Lucas Black vs Nick Drake

Winner: Lucas Black by unanimous decision.

145 lbs Joe Foe vs Liam Machin

Winner: Joe Foe by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Dane Stuart vs Jason Glover

Glover didn’t pick the best strategy for this match. He went heavy on punch combos, trying to knock Stuart out. Now that normally isn’t too bad, but this time around the opponent had a really good chin, so the power combos didn’t amount to much. As a result of that, Glover ended up not hitting too many strikes, while Stuart was able to somehow equal up the striking score with great leg kicks. Glover still won the striking by a bit, but that was all for nothing when it came to clinch – Stuart was completely dominating in it, not letting Glover do anything and thus taking all the points for himself.

Winner: Dane Stuart by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Ivan Borisov vs Marshall Arts

I don’t know what Arts had in mind for this match, but it certainly didn’t work out. In the striking phase he got fairly beaten up without much of his own initiative. He simply didn’t attempt enough strikes to succeed. He tried to get to the clinch, where he ended up just eating a punch and the quickly bailed out. Borisov wasn’t exactly amused by this, so he went for a takedown, which he got and right into side control. From this point onwards he didn’t give Arts the slightest chance as he completely butchered him with some vicious ground and pound.

Winner: Ivan Borisov by TKO (Strikes) at 02:38 of round 1.

265 lbs Lostma Braincells vs Bruce Almighty

This match really didn’t go the way Braincells wanted. He got completely destroyed during the striking phase, where Almighty landed pretty much whatever he wanted while Braincells was unable to respond in any way. He attempted to escape to the clinch, but in it he just ate some shots before Almighty simply broke out of the clinch. This went on for full 2 rounds. But in the 3rd round Braincells manned up and finally landed a takedown. On the ground he quickly realized that this is his last chance to win the match, so he softened Almighty with some ground and pound and went for submissions. 15 seconds before the end of the match, he got one, getting himself a huge comeback victory.

Winner: Lostma Braincells by Submission (Armbar) at 04:45 of round 3.

135 lbs Pablo Soriano vs Jamie Greywar

Two all rounded monsters have ran into each other in this match. With their skill levels virtually equal, the match really went in a really surprising way. Soriano simply dominated the striking phase. While he wasn’t able to land many strikes, his constant aggression really paid off as it kept Greywar at bay and thus he was unable to land strikes of his own. Greywar didn’t like the way this was going, so he went for takedowns, which he got with a surprising ease. Once on the ground, Greywar was in his favourite phase, but Soriano really kept his cool and defended with great efficiency. Not only he was able to get referee standups, he was even able to stand up on his own. The end of the match was quite intense as Soriano got a standup into clinch, which was a place no fighter was originally planning to fight in. Soriano got an upper hand in this part, which was probably what gave him the 3rd round on the judges score and thus took the whole match with it.

Winner: Pablo Soriano by unanimous decision.

205 lbs Gary Indiana vs Flex Dynomite

The main event of the evening was a battle between the generations. Indiana is whole 8 years older than Dynomite. And he clearly showed that experience can stand up to superior training. He performed quite well in the standup, trading hits almost equally. But that wasn’t his main aim – his goal was to get the fight to the ground. And that he did. But once the fight went to the ground, the positions switched – Indiana was a touch better on the ground just like Dynomite was a touch better in the striking. He was maintaining the better position, but failed to do any real damage. The round scores then mirror the slight differences – Gary took the first round due to the early takedown, Dynomite took the second round thanks to being able to stop the takedowns until late in the round and the 3rd round was… equal. 10-10 for both fighters ended the match in a draw, which is something we haven’t seen in a main event for quite a while.

Winner: None, the result was majority draw.

Winner: Rick Flare by unanimous decision.

185 lbs Jimmy Blair vs Joe Slow

Winner: Jimmy Blair by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Jacks Sole vs Baldur Eirikur

Winner: Jacks Sole by Submission (Strikes at 02:31 of round 1.

265 lbs Miller HighLife vs Desmond Hume

Winner: Miller HighLife by unanimous decision.

265 lbs Vin Ner vs Ales Zhandunka

Winner: Vin Ner by unanimous decision.

170 lbs Derek Safo vs Timo Silakka

In this match Safo was simply too much for Silakka. He completely rolled over him in the striking phase, landing a ton of hits while letting just one punch combo hit him and moreover, he completely stopped his takedown attempts. If that wasn’t disastrous enough for Silakka, the fight soon moved to clinch for which Silakka evidently had no plan. He ended up getting 31 hits from 32 thrown, which ended the match with a swift KO for Safo.

Winner: Derek Safo by TKO (Strikes) at 04:47 of round 1.

170 lbs Johnny Storm vs Titus Fletcher

This match was all about KO power. Both fighters went for a wide variety of strikes, out of which few landed. Storm couldn’t land a single kick while Fletcher landed a tiny bit of everything. But that didn’t make the match very long, because Fletchers chin was simply not up to the par of Storms fists. He rocked him with a jab and then KOed him with a right. Just like that, the match was over.

Winner: Johnny Storm by KO (Punch) at 04:45 of round 1.

205 lbs Little Nog vs Mauricio Rua

Rua found himself strangely outmatched in this match. In the standing what was expected to be a close match turned out to a complete murder as Nog kept relentlessly storming Rua with punches, out of which many landed. Rua tried a takedown, which he easily got, but that didn’t help him much. Sure, he could control the position and thus stay on top, but that was about it. That wouldn’t have been so bad, but he actually didn’t go for the takedowns too often, resulting in taking a lot of unnecessary beating in the striking. That was his downfall in the end – Nog took him out with a beautiful KO.

Winner: Little Nog by TKO (Strikes) at 03:05of round 3.

265 lbs Silver Boo vs Frank Mir

Boo really showed his skills in this match – he didn’t let Mir do absolutely anything. In the striking, he swarmed him with strikes, which resulted in Mir just standing back and eating punches. Mir tried a couple of takedowns, out of which one hit the target, but that didn’t really help him as he didn’t get to do anything on the ground due to a referee standup. With ground not working and losing the striking, Mir went to the last place he could – the clinch. But that didn’t help him either – Boo did the exact same thing he did in striking and thus completely dominated the clinch. All the strikes Mir took caused him a severe cut, which got worse over time and forced the referee to stop the fight.

Winner: Silver Boo by TKO (Cut) at 01:12 of round 2.

185 lbs Arnaud Savage vs Chuck Fuck Tito

Three rounds, three landed takedowns, 30-27. That sums this match up. Tito stepped into the ring with his left foot, so while he could stop the few initial takedowns of Savage, he didn’t really use it to anything as he couldn’t land any strikes. Savage, on the other hand, mixed his takedowns with leg kicks, which greatly helped him to set the later takedowns up. Once he got the takedown, it was really bad for Tito. On the ground it was mostly a positional battle as neither fighter was really successful with ending the match, but that worked greatly in Savages favour as it allowed him to conserve his energy, which he could use on submission attempts, which let him stay on the ground. While he didn’t land the submissions, the referee still evaluated them as an activity and thus let him stay on the ground. With no answer to the later turn takedowns, Tito couldn’t do anything but lose to the referee decision.

Winner: Arnaud Savage by unanimous decision.

AXF Friday Nights 44 Preview

145 lbs Karel Gil vs Tony Jaa

In the first fight of the night we get to see a rare sight – two perfectly well rounded fighters. They both have great skills and experience in all areas of the game and thus can fight pretty much wherever they want to. Therefore the match will likely go through all positions as both fighters will be looking for a weakness. As for where that may be, Gil isn’t too familiar with head and body kicks, but since he has been doing great with leg kicks it seems that its more a matter of preference than actual ability to kick. Similarly, Jaa has some reserves when it comes to landing elbows, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t trained them since the last fights or just met an opponent who was exceptionally skilled at blocking elbows. Either way, this is one match to look forward to.

205 lbs Stanley Goodspeed vs Willy Sanchez

To the contrast of the previous match, we really have a good idea of how are these fighters going to win the match – Goodspeed has 11 out of 12 wins by KO and Sanchez has 10 out of 12 by submission. Unless the hell freezes over, they are going to try to get a 12th KO and 11th submission, respectively. The key to who is going to have his way is their wrestling and physical abilities – if Goodspeed can avoid takedowns, he is sure to outbox the opponent and land a KO. Similarly, if Sanchez can get a takedown or two, especially early before he gets damaged, he has good chances of ending the match right from that.

155 lbs Barry Scott vs Viktor Sol

Now this match is going to be interesting, because both fighters have a very similar fighting style – get to the ground and win on the ground. The interesting question is, if either of them will actually risk going to the ground – whoever ends on top will have a significant advantage, but also risk a submission after leaving himself open from ground and pound. They might actually both be afraid of the random submission and keep the fight standing, which would make it anyones game as Scott is a touch better with punches, but he is lacking in the kicking area. Still, Scott has an advantage going to this match simply due to his experience with landing submissions – that is the single most threatening thing to any ground and pound fighter.

265 lbs Jacob Obworth vs Shogun Silva

Now we finally get something simple. Obworth needs a takedown, badly. If he cant get one, he is going to be a in a world of hurt as Silva shouldn’t have much trouble beating the hell out of him in the striking distance. What will be interesting to see is whether Obworth goes for the takedowns directly or tries to get to the clinch first and then get the takedowns from there or both. Still, clinching up with Silva is not exactly the safest way to proceed, but the time he will have to land the takedown if he decides to do it only from striking distance will be severely limited. Either way, this is one tough match for Obworth.

185 lbs Kha Ri vs Tane Te Rauparaha

Ri si outmatching opponent in every primary skill, but its actually nothing special – Rauparaha is no newbie to being outmatched in primaries and he has been doing fine so far, sitting on a three fight win streak. Now how is Rauparaha going to approach the match? That’s simple, his main weapons are his kicks in the striking and elbows and knees in the clinch, so he will look to make use of these and try to slow down Ri with leg kicks before finishing him off in the clinch. Obviously, Ri will want to have none of that, but it wont actually be so simple. If he focuses too hard on countering the clinch attempts, he will eat the leg kicks and might easily lose on points. On the other hand, if he goes aggressively after Rauparaha to punish him for the leg kicks, he is likely to run into the clinch and he just might get hammered in it. Either way, the fight is much harder for Ri than it looks like.

BREAKING NEWS:

With the demise of Fallout many superstars of the company have had their careers in limbo, two of those stars who both train at one of Sydneys premium gyms: Favour House Atlantic were Benny Tronk and Joey Bolten.

It was announced today that both of these superstars had signed with AXF. Tronk started his MMA career with AXF but could only amount an unimpressive record of one win with three losses. Tronk made his way into Fallout and amounted an impressive record of ten wins with five losses. With Fallout coming to it seemed like a no brainer for Benny to head back home to AXF.

Joey Bolten started his career in Fallout amounting a career record of five wins, one loss and his latest bout ending in a draw. Joey was offered a contract at a rival org in Sydney but opted to sign with AXF with his training partner to try and make a name for himself in Sydney.

Both men were excited to join Sydney's consitant number one organisation and were both eager to find out who they would be enterting the cage with first!

Hellllllooo fight fans! I think I may need to use some time to give an introduction, some of you may know me as "Dubs" others just "Neilzy", I write. I love to cover fights and love it even more when the fights are good. AXF has contracted me on a trail basis to cover some fights and give my opinions on what is going down on fight night! I give out money, I give my opinion and I be as honest as possible, that's why people love me and why people line up to get my autograph when I use the public restrooms.. okay well maybe that doesn't happen but one day it will... one day. Let me just give a heads up on how things work. See those numbers next to your fighters name? That's their win loss record. The number in the brackets? (That's these .. () for you uneducated folks.. that's the fighters record in AXF, and finally the "bounty"? If your fighters is lucky enough to be picked they are gettin' some cash from my own wallet! I think that’s enough about me though, there is one hell of a night of fights to cover for AXF's 100th show!!

Dallas Hall 5-1 (1-0) v Victor Vaughn 1-0 (0-0) 170lbs

Opening our night of fights we have a welterweight contest with Victor Vaughn making his AXF debut. Both fighters like to see the action hit the floor and then they like to try to go to town with the ground and pound. This one is hitting the mat as soon as possible, Hall would have a better chance standing and letting his fists talk but I think Vaughn is going to get him to the mat right after the opening bell. It's going to come down to who is the better wrestler and in this case Vaughn has the advantage. It's going to be a long ground and pound night and it's going to Vaughn who notches up the win in his first AXF contest.

Winner: Victor Vaughn via Decision

Gegard Mocassins 7-3 (1-3) v John The Butcher 8-4 (3-2) 155lbs

All three of Mocassins career losses have come in his AXF fights and unfortunately for him I see another one being added here. Mocassins usually opts to take the fight to the floor but I don't see him being able to do that to Butcher in this one. Butcher will stuff the takedowns and fire back with carefully placed lefts and rights which are going to send Mocassins down and out to the canvas as he suffers yet another loss.

Winner: John The Butcher via Knockout

Andrus Orlhovki 9-4 (3-4) v Zach Morgan 8-7 (6-7) 265lbs

The heavyweights tee off here and this is going to be a close one! Morgan is an AXF veteran, having fought in the very first card and Orlhovki is no stranger to fights himself. It's going to be a stand up war to start with and I think that Orlhovki's chin is going to be good enough to stand up to the strikes of Morgan. Morgan may try and get it to the floor but Orlhovki has the advantage there, even if it is only slight. I think that it's going to the judges and it's going to be a win for Orlhovki who will hit the right punches at the right time.

Winner: Andrus Orlhovki via Decision

Andrew Bowers 1-0 (0-0) v Desmond Miles 2-1 (1NC) (0-0) 205lbs

Two fighters make their AXF debut here tonight and once again it's going to be a grapple battle. Both fighters like to let their fists do the talking on the ground so it's going to come down to who has the better skills on the ground and in this contest it's the man with more experience; Miles. Sure he hasn't has THAT many more fights then Bowers but those couple of extra bouts are going to come in handy in this one and I think that once Miles takes Bowers down it's going to be a great display of control and strikes for Miles to get the decision victory.

Winner: Desmond Miles via Decision

Aitch Bubbles 11-1 (7-1) v Baby Jay 9-4-1 (1-1) 155lbs

Baby Jay makes his return to AXF with the demise of Fallout *sniff sniff*. Jay has his work cut out for him in his return as he enters the cage with a proven striker in Bubbles. Jay hasn't been stopped since September at the hands of Bu Laia but I think that Bubbles' barrage of punches are going to be too much for the Fallout veteran. It's going to be a very sad homecoming for Jay who is going to end up on his back early on as a result of Bubbles' fantastic striking.

Winner: Aitch Bubbles via Knockout

Bip Bop 6-0 (1-0) v Emilio Ramos 9-2 (8-2) 265lbs

Undefeated in his career thus far Bop has a pretty big test in front of him in this one. Both men are strikers and both LOVE to finish their fights before the judges can even think about making a decision. Bop has only reaches the third round once and that fight ended in his one and only decision victory. It's going to be an exciting fight that is for sure! Who is going to walk out the winner though? I think that Bop's KO power is going to be too much and too fast for Ramos. Bop is going to be aggressive and he is going to hit those important punches first and notch up his seventh career win.

Winner: Bip Bop via Knockout

Bounty: If Bip Bop wins in the first round he will get the $1000 bounty!

Bu Laia 18-6 (0-0) v Luke Fluke 12-3 (3-0) 155lbs

Another familiar name to me here in Laia. What was originally only supposed to be a super fight to prove who the best lightweight fighter in Sydney really is has pretty much become the fight before the title unification fight. With Fallout coming to it's demise and Laia holding it's 155 pound title it seems like fate that these two would be fighting in this card. Laia has pretty much dominated the competition in Fallout and Fluke has done the same here in AXF. Anybody who has seen Laia fight knows that he likes to be cautious and really wear down his opponent where as Fluke will do whatever it takes to get the win and do it with class each and every time. I don't think Laia has met a striker like Fluke before and I think it's going to show in this fight. Fluke is going to be the one wearing down Laia and it's going to come down to one punch that lands flush and Laia is going to suffer his first career knockout.

Winner: Luke Fluke via TKO

Ledil Kuch 11-0-1 (0-0) v Mickey Rodriguez 12-3 (3-1) 205lbs

Fists are going to be flying! Both of these fighters can throw them like no tomorrow whether it's at striking distance or right close up in the clinch. Kuch fights for the first time in AXF in this one and he is going to be pressing the action to Rodriguez! Rodriguez will take whatever punches he needs to but when the opening comes it's going to be lights out for Kuch who is going to meet the canvas for the very first time in his career. I think that Rodriguez is going to be too much in this one and he is going to further confirm his position as the number one light heavyweight in AXF.

Winner: Mickey Rodriguez via TKO

Tad Ghostal 9-1 (5-1) v JP Greywar 16-2-1 (3-0) 135lbs

Another familiar face here in Ghostal who holds both Fallout's and AXF's 145lbs belt and he faces another champion in Greywar who holds AXF's 135lbs title. It's an interesting fight that's for sure with Ghostal predominant being a striker and Greywar being more of a "jack of all trades", sure he has some impressive Muay Thai but he also has some impressive ground and pound that he likes to display from time to time. Ghostal hasn't had to fight much and had dedicated a lot of his time to training his art, that being winning. I think that Ghostal is going to come out of this one with a huge surprise for Greywar and it's going to end up in the judges hands. As long as Ghostal can keep the fight standing he should walk away with the win.

Winner: Tad Ghostal via Decision

Molly Greywar 11-1 (4-0) v Oppolla Doc 18-5 (3-0) 265lbs

Annnnnd now our main event of the evening! Both men are undefeated in their AXF fights so someone is walking out tonight with their first loss under the AXF banner! I think that Greywar is going to be the one that walks out of the main event with another "W" next to his name. The reason? His striking both at a distance and in the clinch is going to be too much for Doc. Having being stopped three times before I think that Greywar is going to see that as a weakness. Greywar is going to test the waters first and the second the opportunity makes itself known he will finish will a highlight reel knockout to end the 100th show for AXF!

Winner: Molly Greywar via Knockout

That's all the action folks! What a night of action it is going to be! I can't wait! I'll see you next week (if you will have me of course) for another card of exciting AXF action!

AXF 056 **100th Event** Review

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/3927/jokerthepimpfallout.jpg

This report is brought to you by Joker The Pimp.

Since Fallout has met its end, the Joker Brother is now officially the reviewers of AXF, tee hee! Well, it was a good time to join the AXF squad as they are officially hitting the 100 events milestone. To celebrate this one heck of a show, 10,000 fans filled The Bridge arena in a record-breaking event that scored 193.96.

Andrew Bowers vs Desmond Miles

Bowers was in trouble ever since the beginning of this one as he was under heavy pressure from Miles. Miles didn't tired out fast and he continued to press onward which forced Bowers back to the cage. Miles utilized the cage and landed a takedown in which Bowers has no chance to defend against. Miles didn't stop there and delivered a lot of ground and pound to force a stoppage. Winner: Desmond Miles(TKO:Strikes)

Dallas Hall vs Victor Vaughn

Thing wasn't easy for Vaughn in this one as he has to constantly back away to avoid the takedown threat of Hall. Still, Vaughn was a very clever guy. He avoided takedown then took Hall down to make sure he has the top position, which is critical in any fight -- despite that Hall wasn't that good on the ground. Vaughn played a well-rounded control game on the mat and put in some solid ground and pound every round for an easy 30:27 victory. Winner: Victor Vaughn(UD)

Gegard Mocassins vs John The Butcher

John really didn't wait, just like a butcher wouldn't wait for his prey to run or do anything. John swarmed in with some quick punches that connected quick well and eventually Mocassins was rocked by the sheer amount of power of John. As soon as Mocassins's feet was soften, John timed a great overhand right and that one dropped Mocassins like any other preys of The Butcher. Winner: John The Butcher(TKO:Strikes)

Andrus Orlhovki vs Zach Morgan

Morgan's good boxing was displayed throughout this fight as he was able to outstrike Orlhovki at any time of the fight. Besides that, Morgan also took Orlhovki quite a few times and Orlhovki repaid it with some clinch and pound of his own. It was a pretty close fight and it was hard to judge the first two rounds. In the end, the judges gave the favor to Morgan in a 29:28 decision victory and I think Morgan's combination was a big factor in this one. Winner: Zach Morgan(UD)

Aitch Bubbles vs Baby Jay

Bubbles was having the upper hand throughout this one and Jay was very clever to take Bubbles down to rest up but then the referee wasn't happy with such action and forced a standup pretty quick everytime the fight went to the ground. You can't really blame him because Jay's offense was really just hitting the ground and not Bubbles. Jay was hit and hit back fairly well until a counter right of Bubbles that came out of nowhere. Jay was clearly soften up by that one and Bubbles landed a stiff jab as a follow-up and Jay was really out of the fight. The referee did the right decision and called it a night. Winner: Aitch Bubbles(KO: Punch)

Bip Bop vs Emilio Ramos

Ramos was wild from the beginning of this one and his kick was just too much for Bop and it kept Bop out of range to mount any offense. Bop was still finding a way to attack but his plan failed as soon as he was hit by a huge head kick that dropped him straight. Winner: Emilio Ramos(KO:Head Kick)

Bu Laia vs Luke Fluke

I have to say that Fluke impressed me in this one. It was rare to see someone landed that many counter strikes like him and it was really a good fight to watch. Of course, Laia did mount some offense of his own but Fluke was landing more and more often. First round, Laia was cut; Second round, Laia was rocked once; Third round, Laia was out after a head kick and some follow-on ground and pound. Winner: Luke Fluke(TKO:Strikes)

Ledil Kuch vs Mickey Rodriguez

Both men fought hard but Rodriguez was clearly on another level from Kuch. Add to the fact that Kuch was cut early in the first round and Rodriguez was clever enough to aim at that newly found weakness, Kuch's performance was dropping as the fight went on. Kuch was a very tough personnel though as he was able to defend or take Rodriguez's attacks without showing fear or weakness except one time in round one that his legs were soften real bad. He hanged on though to a decision, which was 30:27 for Rodriguez. Winner: Mickey Rodriguez(UD)

Tad Ghostal vs JP Greywar

Round 1 was nothing but Greywar as a successful takedown granted him that round. Ghostal was flat-footed on the bottom as Greywar kept it busy enough to stay there. Ghostal wasn't in any kind of danger down there but he lost that round for sure. Round 2 and 3 were similar. Ghostal did some good sprawls and tried to force a striking battle against Greywar. Surprisingly, Greywar was around his level in striking and he was hitting more kicks as well. The very solid performance earned Greywar a 30:27 decision. Winner: JP Greywar(UD)

Molly Greywar vs Oppolla Doc

We started the main event with an action-packed round 1 that see both fighters "bloodified" by the hard hits of their opponent throughout the round. Greywar easily won that round with a takedown followed by ground dominance. Round 2 was a strategic standup battle but Doc focused too much in defense that really wasn't working. I think Doc was trying to counter but Greywar was patient enough to pick his shots and landed a good amount of them. Round 3, Greywar took the fight once again to the mat after a bit of striking. By then, I can say that Greywar would win if they brings it to the decision. No, Greywar didn't like a decision today and pounded Doc out instead in the final minutes of round 3, ending the fight with vicious ground and pound. This is indeed a happy day for the Greywar family. Winner: Molly Greywar(TKO:Strikes)

Judging by the string of goopy drool that runs off her face when she looks at the rankings, Molly wants that strap Doc! Face her again for the Unified HW/SHW Human vs Mastiff title!

I hold out little hope for humanity in this struggle.

Helllllooo again fight fans! What an event we had last weekend! Ten thousand screaming fans saw first hand what Sydney MMA is all about! One hell of a show was put on and I ended up getting Seven results correct.. however.. no bounty was paid out! Let's see if we can get one paid out this weekend folks as we gear up for another awesome show!

Vince Angus 1-1 (0-0) v George Droop 0-0 (0-0) 155lbs

Opening our night of fights we have two men making their AXF debut and one of those guys is also making his MMA debut! It's always hard to know what to expect against a fighter who has not graced the octogan yet so for Angus it's a tough fight. Angus is primarily a boxer and from early preliminary scouting it seems as though Droop has some impressive hands himself but may also like to take the fight up close and personal in the clinch. It's going to be a tough night for Angus and I think that Droop will get this one for the first win of his career and he is going to do it in highleet reel fashion!

Winner: George Droop via Knockout

Thiago Alves 7-6 (2-3) v Me Myself Irene 7-7 (0-3) 170lbs

Irene still hasn't tasted victory under the AXF banner and he may not have to wait a little longer to get his hands around his first win in Sydney's number one fight company. Even though Irene has some pretty impressive kick boxing he has a pretty significant downfall in his wrestling and that's exactly where Alves is going to focus his attention for this fight. Expect Alves to try and wear Irene down with punches to the body and then as soon as the opportunity comes up the action is going to the floor where Alves with ground and pound his way to a decision victory.

Winner: Thiago Alves via Decision

Suchart Chaowanungkarn 1-1 (0-1) v Rick Piper 1-0 (0-0) 155lbs

Piper makes his AXF debut here tonight and Chaowanungkarn is looking to get his first win in the company. Chaowanungkarn stands a decent chance, he is going to look to close the distance in the fight and take it to the clinch, if the action stays there he has a win no doubt but if he opts to take the fight to the floor he may be in a little trouble. Sure his ground and pound is dominating but Piper's first win was from submission and Chaowanungkarn's white belt just might not hold up on the floor. I think that Chaowanungkarn will be able to keep the fight standing and will frind out a decision win.

Winner: Suchart Chaowanungkarn via Decision

Yogi Bear 8-3 (7-3) v Ace Lyons 5-4 (0-1) 155lbs

After some mixed success on the Sydney circuit Lyons makes his return to AXF against a veteran of the promotion in Bear. This is going to be a hell of a fight just because these guys are pretty much polar opposites! Lyons prefers to keep the action standing but can hold his own on the ground where as Bear loves to dominate on the ground but has some decent boxing to help him if the fight stays upright. It's hard to say which way this one will go. As long as Lyons can stuff the takedowns of Bear he has it in the bag but Bear is an accomplished wrestler so Lyons may have some trouble in that department. I think that Lyons is going to have enough ticker to keep in control in this one andhe is going to get a win on his welcoming back to AXF

Winner: Ace Lyons via Decision

Xplicit Powerhouse 2-2 (0-1) v Tate Tots 1-0 (0-0) 265+lbs

Another fighter makes his AXF debut here tonight and he is going to be having a pretty successful one by the looks of things. Tots has some great wrestling and that's where he loves to take the fight, straight to the ground. Powerhouse also likes to mix things up on the ground and I don't think he is going to be able to keep in control down there in this one. Tots is going to use his vicious ground and pound to put Powerhouse away on the score cards after three rounds of action.

Winner: Tate Tots via Decision

Roland McGregor 12-6 (3-3) v Randy Savage 9-4 (4-2) 205lbs

Both of these fighters like to let fists fly and I think that's exactly what we are going to see happen! Savage has an impressive seven stoppages to his name and McGregor has an equally impressive six. I think these two guys are going to be throwing down for young and old and it's going to be one hell of a scrap! Although McGregor likes to throw his fists he is going to have to fight with his brain in this one and try and get the fight to the floor where he has the advantage. I think that Savage's punches will be more carefully placed and he will wear McGregor down and when everybody least expects it that knockout punch will come and Savage will get another win under the AXF banner.

Winner: Randy Savage via Knockout

Alberto Lopez 7-2 (5-1) v Darren King 9-5 (1-1) 145lbs

I think it can be said that King hates the judges. All nine of his wins have come by way of KO/TKO and all five of his losses? The exact same fashion. His "go for broke" style may get the best of him tonight though. Lopez is a conditioned striker and knows exactly how to take his opponents down. Five of Lopez's seven wins are by KO/TKO as well so he is no stranger to finishing fights. I think that King''s chin is going to let him down in this one and Lopez is going to strike harder, faster and more precise to get himself a stoppage win.

Winner: Alberto Lopex via TKO

Tairy Greene 11-6 (0-1) v Luca Blight 6-1 (2-1) 205lbs

Here is another battle that could go either way. If Blight can keep the action standing he should take this one away easily but Greene has some pretty good wrestling skills that he likes to utilise, that with his ground and pound and submissions can be pretty dominating and hard to beat. If Blight can stuff the takedowns he has this fight exactly where he can win it but I think that Greene's wrestling is going to be too much. Blight is going to end up on his back at some point throughout this one and that's where Greene is going to go to work and as long as he can do it at least once a round he will get the win in the eyes of the judges.

Winner: Tairy Greene via Decision

Benton Styles 7-0 (1-0) v Leroy Goins 8-1-1 (5-0) 145lbs

It's undefeated taking on undefeated. Styles is undefeated in his career and Goins is undefeated under the AXF banner. Styles tore through the QFC circuit before winning in "style" in his AXf debut. I don't think he has met a challenger like Goins though, who has the right tools to hand Styles his first career loss. Styles' stand up has been dominating in his past seven appearances but I think that Goins is "goin'" to show him up in a big way. Goins can take the fight to the ground where Styles has never really been in his seven fights and I think that's exactly what he will do. I'm thinking that Goins will get the decision win in this one but I would LOVE to see him pull out an impressive stoppage for Styles' first loss.

Winner: Leroy Goins via Decision

Bounty: If Leroy Goins wins via KO/TKO/Submission he gets the $1000 bounty

Bonus Bounty: If Leroy can do it in the first round he gets an EXTRA $1000!

Lath Hoy 16-6 (0-0) v Matt Silva 16-5 (7-1) 185lbs

And here it is.. our main event of the evening! Impressively Hoy has scored all but one of his victories by way of submission so it's pretty safe to say that he is going to want the action to hit the floor. Silva on the other hand has left his destiny in the hands of the judges a total of eleven times, I don't think Silva is going to want to let someone seal his fate in this one because if Hoy has his way he will be controlling the pace in this one from the floor. Silva has the tools in his hands to keep this one in his grasp but I think that Hoy's obsession to get the fight to the ground is going to be too much for Silva who is going to end up tapping out to hand Hoy his first ever win in Sydney's number one org!

Winner: Lath Hoy

Some good fights here tonight folks, be sure to get to the arena early as there are only 7000 seats this week! That's all from me now enjoy the fights and be sure to tune in next week for some more pre show entertainment!

AXF 057 Review

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/3927/jokerthepimpfallout.jpg

This report is brought to you by Joker The Pimp.

Hello everyone, welcome to another week of AXF action and this week in AXF 57, we are hosting a special 3 minutes round event just to make sure those fighters came in and out of the fight with aggressiveness. Is this setting more fun than the usual 5 minutes round? Let's see.

Vince Angus vs George Droop

Droop didn't waste too much time standing and Angus really wasn't expecting the clinch. The result was Angus eating a lot of punches on the clinch and it seemed that Angus just couldn't adjust to Droop's dirty boxing style of approach. He did try to force the separation with jump guard attempts but Droop let him get up and then closed it again for another clinch. Angus was simply not fast enough to move out of the way and the fight was stopped a little before the final bell because of the vicious cut Angus was having. Winner: George Droop(TKO:Cut)

Thiago Alves vs Me Myself Irene

Alves clearly was all up for business tonight and he avoided a standup battle with the muay thai practitioner with a very quick but strong takedown into side control. Then, it was just time attack for Alves and he won the time attack by unleashing his attacks quick and strong on Irene's face, forcing a quick stoppage due to cut. Winner: Thiago Alves(TKO:Cut)

Suchart Chaowanungkarn vs Rick Piper

This one was a very action-packed nine minutes for the audience. Both fighters were rushing toward each other from the beginning. One looking for clinch while another looking for takedown. This was pretty much a well-rounded fight with both guys able to take the fight to their ground and do some damage to each other. After three rounds of clinch plus ground action, the judges gave this one 29:28, 29:28 and 28:29 for the winner, Rick Piper. The closest round was round 2 but it seemed that Piper's two takedowns worth more in the hand of two judges, hence the 29:28. Winner: Rick Piper(UD)

Yogi Bear vs Ace Lyons

The key to this fight was takedown. In round 1 and 3, Bear was able shut off Lyons's impressive striking game with his takedown. Yes, Lyons was a terrifying striker standing up but on the ground, he was nothing but a man without any offense. He was able to defend against Bear's ground and pound anyway but then he didn't do enough on both rounds against Bear. Round 2 was his time but he probably overtiring himself that round and that led to Bear's easy takedown on round 3, which costs Lyons the match. Winner: Yogi Bear(UD)

Xplicit Powerhouse vs Tate Tots

Both guys have the same problem. They were god on top position but useless on the bottom. Hence, this fight was decided by who was the one taking his opponent down to secure the top control. In round 1, it was Tots with a counter takedown and Powerhouse learned the lesson. Powerhouse took Tots down before Tots could even think of counter in both round 2 and round 3 and attacked his way to victory with a 29:28 decision. Winner: Xplicit Powerhouse(UD)

Roland McGregor vs Randy Savage

I thought Savage could finish this one as he was able to knock McGregor down early of first round with one hell of an uppercut but then he wasn't able to finish McGregor on the ground. The latter two rounds were McGregor's rounds. He returned the pounding of Savage but giving him some pounding after a successful takedown. Savage's bottom game was not up on par as well so he really couldn't do much on both round, ending this fight with a 29:28 decision for McGregor. Winner: Roland McGregor(UD)

Alberto Lopez vs Darren King

Finally, a sexy knockout! You can see that Lopez has the determination to knock King out from the second he walked into the cage. Man, that was the eye of the tiger. King started with some aggression but he turned more and more passive and defensive because Lopez was getting crazier and crazier. With a perfect mix of head punches and leg kicks, Lopez easily dispatched King with a uppercut and then some follow-up strikes from mount for the TKO. Winner: Alberto Lopez(TKO:Strikes)

Tairy Greene vs Luca Blight

This was pretty much another copy of Yogi Bear vs Ace Lyons. Greene took Blight down and dominated the ground in round 1 and 3 while Blight was able to outstrike Greene in round 2. Hmm...rounds with odd number is easier to get a takedown? An interesting hypothesis. Anyway, the fight ended with a 29:28 decision for the grappler. Winner: Tairy Greene(UD)

Benton Styles vs Leroy Goins

Styles was the first one to dispatch the "takedown for decision win" strategy thanks to his very impressive sprawl and good striking. Goins was able to strike too but at the same time he was looking for takedowns to seal the deal on the round. Sadly for him, Styles was constantly outstriking him and his sprawl was proven to be the better technique in this one. Goins landed a takedown on round 1 and 3 but the one on round 3 was just before the bell so this was a 29:28 for Styles. The result might be different if this was a 5 minutes per round fight. Winner: Benton Styles(UD)

Lath Hoy vs Matt Silva

In the main event, we have two fighters with their own distinctive style. Hoy was a very impressive BJJ practitioner while Silva was an all-around guy that can exploit the weakness of literally any fighter. Round 1, Silva decided it was the best to get top control over a dangerous jiu-jutsu guy and shot for a takedown. That was a very clever strategy as he was able to control Hoy, attack Hoy and defend Hoy's submission attempts, all at the same time. Round 2, Hoy took a few shots but later took the fight to the ground with a nice shoot of his own. Hoy was very aggressive on top, chasing a submission until the end of round 2, Silva survived. Round 3, they had a good period of striking going with Silva getting the slight upper hand and then Hoy surprised Silva with a quick takedown a minute before the fight. He wanted to end this with another submission win but Silva was just too good in defensive grappling to be submitted in such a short time. Final result, 29:28 from all judges for the winner, Lath Hoy. Winner: Lath Hoy(UD)

Verdict: A pretty average result this week.

The end result was a lot of close decision and just a few finishes. Wow, I never really see a card without 30:xx so this is a pretty unique night for me.

Helllloo again fight fans! Another week meets us with yet another AXF card, this time though it's Friday Night Fights! We down size for this weeks event after two jam packed shows and 3000 lucky Sydney MMA fans get the chance to see some of Sydney's best up and coming talent. I still haven't been able to give out a bounty yet, will this be the show for someone to get it? Let's get into the action folks!

Chad Harpenter 1-1 (0-0) v Ricky Ponting 0-0 (0-0) 155lbs

Two fighters make their AXF debut here tonight and Ponting even gets the chance to make his career debut under the best org in Sydney. Ponting is untested as yet but his opponent is a pretty good wrestler. I think that this one will hit the floor pretty early on and it's going to stay there. Harpenter's chin should be able to bear the brunt of Ponting's early strikes and after that it's ground and pound time and the judges are going to award this one to Harpenter hands down.

Winner: Chad Harpenter via Decision

Damien Cross 1-0 (0-0) v Mateo Velez 2-1 (1-0) 265lbs

Two heavyweights face off next and Cross SHOULD have been able to walk through this one with his boxing however early reports say that his training camp hasn't been the best and he may not be heading into the fight as energized as he could be. Valez is going to take advantage of that and he is going to be able to avoid the strikes from Cross and then take the action straight to the floor. When he gets down there it won't take him long to show everyone his submission skills and he will walk away with Cross tapping out.

Winner: Mateo Velez via Submission

Xander Arapeta 9-6 (0-1) v Chris Porter 14-10 (1-3) 185lbs

Fresh out of Hilo Arapeta is going to be looking to get his first taste of victory under the AXF banner. Porter too wants to taste victory again only being able to do so once out of four trips to the octagon in the AXF. It's hard to say just how this one is going to transpire. Porter is going to want to get the action to the floor where he will be able to utilize his submission game but Arapeta is going to be a tough customer to take down. Arapeta is going to use his kicks to his advantage and really give Porter something to think about. I think that Porter's takedown attempts are going to be overwhelmed by Arapeta's kicks and the judges are going to side with the former Blitz fighter.

Winner: Xander Arapeta via Decision

Kook Connor 4-2 (1-0) v Przemyslaw Kaczynski 3-0 (1-0) 185lbs

Both men are undefeated in one fight each under the AXF banner. Kaczynski hasn't lost in three outings to the octagon and Connor is riding a four fight win streak. Ideally I would give this one to Kaczynski, whose stand up has proven to do him quite well but rumour has it his cap leading up to the fight hasn't been too good. He has been training at Cozad in Sydney and that really has hurt his morale leading into the fight, he doesn't look like he wants to get in there against Connor and that's going to cost him. Connor's clinch game should be enough score him the victory, interestingly enough Kaczynski's clinch game has been relatively untested in his three career fights. Connor should have what it takes to get the points and walk away with another AXF victory.

Winner: Kook Connor via Decision

Ken Banners 6-4 (1-4) v Bernard Blake 7-4 (4-4) 265lbs

All four of Banners' losses have come through the AXF so he is going to be going into this one with it all on the line. Something impressive is that all six of Banners' wins have come by way of stoppage, he wants to finish his opponents when he gets inside the cage that's for sure! Blake sure is going to prove to be quite the challenge for Banners. Blake has quite a good clinch game, something of which Banners will probably not be able to compete with. Unless Banners can hit Blake flush early on in the fight I see this one being tied up and staying there for Blake to get a win by way of decision.

Winner: Bernard Blake via Decision

Caleb Reimer 14-4 (1NC) (8-1) v Carmine Hawkins 7-3 (2-2) 170lbs

Now if I were Remier going into this one I would look at Hawkins' white belt and smile, a perfect opportunity to get a finish. Remier however loves to let the judges seal his fate, all fourteen of his career victories have come by way of decision, he really just loves to dominate his opponents and show the world his skills. Hawkins' boxing and clinch game would usually be enough for him to get the win but I think Remier is going to have some tricks up his sleeve, whether it's taking the fight to the floor or pitter pattering his way to victory he knows how to win on the judges scorecards and that is going to help him in a big way in this one.

Winner: Caleb Remier via Decision

Bounty: If Caleb wins by Submission he will get the $1000 bounty!

Joe Man 15-11 (0-0) v Crusty Pelican 13-7 (5-3) 145lbs

Fallout veteran Man makes his AXF debut here tonight and comes in with a whopping twenty six fights to his name, if there was an experience card that needed to be played in this one he has that won hands down! Pelican is no stranger to the cage himself, notching up twenty career fights, two seasoned fighters go at it here and it's tough to decide where the action will take place! Both men like to use their BJJ game to score a victory but Pelican tends to let his hands do the talking as well. I think that Man is going to want to see the action get to the floor first and will eat a lot of punches in the process. Once on the ground Man should be able to keep the action going in his favour and although he may not finish Pelican he will do enough in the eyes of judges (who look to be getting quite the workout tonight) and will walk away with a decision victory in his AXF debut.

Winner: Joe Man via Decision

Patrick Stettin 11-3 (7-2) v Sione Finau 16-7 (2-0) 265+lbs

The former champion gets to make another step towards redemption in this one as the big boys in the super heavyweight division give us some exciting action! Both men like to let their fists do the talking whether it's standing up or on the ground. Stettin is going to be hungry to get yet another win so that he could maybe start working towards another title reign. Finau is going to be tough to stop but I think that Stettin is going back to his old winning ways and he is going to do it in style. Fists are going to fly in this one and Stettin should get himself a nice TKO victory.

Winner: Patrick Stettin via TKO

Sun Wukong 11-3 (4-2) v Thomas Pusher 12-7 (7-3) 205lbs

One thing is for certain, this one is staying standing and it's kicks against punches. Wukong has some pretty devastating leg kicks to his resume and Pusher opts to let his fists meet his opponents face at all costs. It's always tough trying to decide whether it's punches or kicks that are to be more successful. Wukong will really tire Pusher out who will be throwing his punches but I don't think as many will land as he would like. Kicks to the legs and body really tire you out and Pusher is going to find that out the hard way tonight.

Winner: Sun Wukong via Decision

Alec Dimanche 8-2 (4-0) v Kent Russell 8-1 (2-0) 265lbs

And now our main event of the evening! Both men are undefeated in their AXF careers so someone is walking away tonight with their first loss in the company! The great thing for the fans in this one? Both men love to finish their fights so we can expect one hell of a stand up war. Dimanche may find himself in a bit of trouble though if Russell can tie him up in the clinch. Russell loves to dirty box his way to victory and certainly has had some success in wearing down opponents in the clinch. Both these guys are going to be going for broke and someone is going to hit the canvas hard, that person tonight though is going to be Dimanche whose lack of experience inside the clinch is really going to hurt him tonight.

Winner: Kent Russel via Knockout

That's all the action folks, be sure to tune in on Friday to see what should be a sensational night of fights!
