NFC 137 Reinikainen vs Protagonist Preview

The Nordic Fire Championship was live from Suomi International for NFC 137: Reinikainen vs. Protagonist. 17,323 from all over Helsinki, Finland filled the location to capacity along with nearly another 90,000 watching on pay-per-view from around the globe. Ten fights were contested during the event, with five on the main card featuring title fights from both the welterweight and middleweight divisions.

The main card started with Masaru Midget (21-4-0) facing Hemmo Kalske (22-6-1) in the heavyweight division. Midget, who had rebounded from a loss to title NFC 136 title contender George McTrigger with a one-round drubbing of Mehmet Sable, was looking to make it two in a row. Kalske was intending to rebound from a five round decision loss to Challengers Alumni Peter Smith. Early on in the fight, Masaru Midget and Hemmo Kalske swung for the fences early, both landing significant body shots. In the second round, Kalske cut Midget open with a head kick, and later caught him with a knee in the clinch before grounding him with a right hand. At 2:24 of round 2, Hemmo Kalske wins by TKO (Punches).

The next fight featured the NFC Welterweight Champion Felix Flashlighter (28-11-1) putting his title on the line against Dirk Zeldenthuis (18-3-0). Coming off a superfight loss to Otso Jokinen at NFC 134, the world class boxer looked to rebound with a title defense against the man he defeated at NFC 110. After his August 27th loss to Flashlighter, the ADCC champion Zeldenthuis has put on a show, only dropping one fight out of six, his one loss to James Kirk being avenged at NFC 132. The fight started off strongly for Zeldenthuis, taking the first round with numerous takedowns and ground control. Flashlighter did well to stay upright and work his boxing game in round two, possibly winning that round with the judges. Round 3 nearly saw the fight end as Dirk went for an armbar, but Felix defended it well. The championship rounds were split by each fighter. The fight went to the judges decision, and with scores of 47:48, 48:48, and 47:48, it was Dirk Zeldenthuis walking away with the Championship by way of Majority Decision.

Following that was a middleweight bout between Jean Pierre Babin (10-1-0) and Joey Silvera (12-3-0). An experienced prospect with frightening power in his legs, Jean Pierre Babin was building off of his impressive NFC debut victory. Meanwhile, the hometown Silvera has been affiliated with NFC organizations during his entire pro career, and holds the distinction of never being submitted. Not much to this wild brawl- at 3:37 of the first round, Joey Silvera scored a massive right hand and emerged victorious by KO (Punch).

The co-main of the evening featured Waldorf Astoria (29-8-0) fighting Victor Reinhardt (26-10-0) in the 170 pound division, possibly to decide the next contender. Early on, Waldorf Astoria was cut open and taken down, but in the second round, Reinhardt started to get worn down from numerous leg kicks. Round three saw Waldorf Astoria avoiding takedown attempts and picking "Bloodlust" apart from distance en route to a 28:29, 27:30, 28:29 Unanimous Decision victory.

The main event of the evening was next and it did not disappoint, as Kalle Reinikainen (17-3-0) took on Hiro Protagonist (24-8-1) with the NFC Middleweight Championship up for grabs. Protagonist came into the fight on a six fight winning streak dating back to his days in Challengers, while Reinikainen last lost a 185 contest nearly a year ago. The first round probably went to Protagonist. The second saw both fighters, throwing bombs, with Protagonist getting rocked from a left-right combo from Reinikainen. More of the same in round three. In the first of the championship rounds, Hiro started to mount a comeback before catching Kalle with a superb hook. A second left hook to the head dropped Reinikainen for the miracle comeback- at 0:48 of round 4, Hiro Protagonist wins the NFC Middleweight Championship by way of KO (Punch).

Results from the undercard:

Tony Tauno defeated Heikki Kuula by KO (Head Kick).

Mikael Samoth defeated Diaz Brothers by Submission (Triangle Choke).

Sean Michaels defeated Bill Cutting by KO (Punches).

Alfa Uros defeated Guru Majja by Unanimous Decision (29:28, 29:28, 29:28)

Marko Torturo defeated Ming Xin by Unanimous Decision (29:28, 29:28, 29:28)

NFC 138 Tolonen vs Pain Preview

The Nordic Fire Championship will be live on March 10th, 2012 from Suomi International for NFC 138: Tolonen vs. Pain. Helsinki, Finland is the location as this event, which you can see live via pay-per-view (contact your local provider) features ten fights between the best mixed martial artists in the world. It's all headlined with a clash between the #1 and #2 Super Heavyweight fighters in the world.

The main card will begin with a welterweight bout between "The Farmboy" Ratt Hughes (25-11-0) and James Kirk (13-5-0). A veteran to the sport with more than 30 fights to his name at the age of 29, Ratt Hughes is an ADCC champion grappler who has just avenged his loss to Eric Cartman at NFC 135. He faces a stiff test in Kirk, whose recent record surely belies his ability. A black belt Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitor, Kirk ran roughshod over NFC Challengers and won three straight in the NFC for his first bouts, capturing the welterweight championship in the process. Since then, three straight losses have stunted the 24-year old's momentum, but James Kirk is always a threat.

In the lightweight division, Santeri Norzu (22-8-1) faces Glasgow nativie Osgar "Blunt Force Trauma" MacGregor (16-6-0) in further action. Having rectified his draw with Sinuhe Egyptian at NFC 130 with a onesided decision victory in the rematch, the heavy-handed Santei Norzu hopes to reinsert himself into title contention at 155. The 27-year old already has 15 (T)KOs to his name, but he will have his hands full with Scotland's own Osgar MacGregor. A powerful boxer who leaves everything in the cage, MacGregor has endeared himself into the hearts of the NFC fans for his wild, slug-it-out style. Not one of his NFC bouts have gone to decision, win or lose.

The evening continues with two light heavyweight bouts. The first of which features Simon Adebisi (20-6-0) fighting "Son Goku" Sun Wukong (19-5-0). Only 28 yet possessing over 25 fights, Abedisi- the former #1 in the world at 205- is a former champion looking to get right back into the title hunt after a loss. A sensational boxer with an endless gas tank, Abedisi is currently the holder of most submissions at light heavyweight on the NFC roster. Sun Wukong is a fighter, meanwhile, with no shortage of dangerous weapons. All of his NFC victories have been by TKO or KO, and the man has gone to decision only seven times in his career. Looking to build off of his third round knockout of Urho Itaniemi, Wukong aims to put himself back in the title picture.

That title picture features NFC Champion Gristle McThornbody (26-4-0) facing Vicious Fights champion Pekka "Teufel" Perkele (23-9-0) in a promotional superfight between the #1 and #2 promotions in Finland. Having won all of his Nordic Fire Championship appearances, McThornbody looks to further his rampage at 205. Having never lost a fight by decision, it's surely kill-or-be-killed for McThornbody, yet Pekka Perkele will not be an easy opponent. During his career, Perkele has earned a reputation as a bonus hunter- with 6 fights of the night and 4 KOs of the night under his belt, the man who first appeared in NFC way back at NFC 12 returns after losing only once in seven Vicious appearances. This is only the co-main event- expect fireworks.

The main event features another superfight between two legends of the sport- Iiro "The Man" Tolonen (31-8-0) faces Starship Pain (29-6-1) in a Superheavyweight bout between the champions of the Nordic Fire Championship and the Beserkers Champions League. In 15 appearances in the NFC, promotional hall-of-famer Tolonen has only lost once, and currently rides a seven-fight win streak dating back to October of the previous year. A world class boxer that is seemingly elite or better in every category across the board, the man with 24 (T)KOs to his name faces his toughest test yet in the man who looks to usurp him in the 265+ rankings- Starship Pain. A BJJ black belt who has never been submitted in his career, Pain is on a winning streak of his own- having racked up 8 straight finishes over his BCL competition, the ADCC champion with knockout power looks to etch his name in the echelon of legends with a victory over one of the best in the sport today.

Only 3 months in to the year and we've got multiple fight of the year contenders on one card- this is an event you cannot afford to miss.

On the undercard:

Pedro Pedofiili vs. Rolf Thorkildsen

AJ Texeira vs. Jan Puman

Kristof Nikitin vs. Goran Persson

Doc Chillum vs. Urho Itaniemi

Frank Andersson vs. Seppo Taalasmaa

NFC- Nordic Fire Championship 170: Shakur versus Stroker

Bob Jones here yet again ladies and gentlemen. In case you don’t know me I will introduce myself. I am a writer and radio broadcaster for mmajunkie.com, I have done previews in the past for organizations such as- The Siberian Fight League, Immortals New York, Xtreme Fighting Championship, and for Synchrocity for The Convicted Fighter tournament. I am also the co-host on MMA:The Immortals Show.

But enough about me and on to a small rundown on the fights. We have an action packed night with all different weight classes represented. I will go in depth on all the main card fights and give you some blurbs on our undercard. May I remind you that Nordic Fire Championship is the number one org in the world. It has the best fighters, the best fights, and the best places for you to watch them. So let’s get down to business.

185 pound title fight: Alfa Uros(21-6)The Current Belt Holder--- versus Guru Majja(19-7-1)

Both of these men have performed great as of late. Uros has beaten Majja- but Majja is 5-0-1 in his last 6 fights against some pretty good top competition in NFC. His overall record in NFC is 5-1-1 with his one loss coming against Uros. You can bet this time he wants things to turn differently though. Uros is 6-1 in his last 7 fights and is 12-5 in NFC, and he also was 3-0 in the now extinct NFC: Prospects. Uros is the best 185 has to offer and we will see if Majja can keep his hot streak going. Uros is another tough FinnFighter who continue to dominate NFC. This fight actually has a chance at going to the ground too with both fighters being such excellent wrestlers. These two fighters only have 18 TKO’s between them in 40 wins, they are much smaller than most of the guys on the main card and would rather grind out a decision victory then swing for the fences. Guru Majja’s last win though over the former title holder Kalle ended up in a submission victory by strikes. It was very dominating and there is a chance Majja can win this rematch.

Prediction: I’m going to take the underdog: Majja by TKO

Main Card: Fighting At Light Heavyweight: Tomi Juntunen(11-6) versus Ryo Narushima(24-6)

Well both of these fighters are COMING OFF OF A LOSS. So a win gets one of these guys back on track. Juntunen is 24 years old and less experienced but will have roughly a ten pound weight advantage. Also he is 8 centimeters taller and should use that reach to his advantage. The two combined have 27 TKO’s out of their 35 victories! Juntunen is known for being extremely flexible but was submitted for a loss in his last fight in the Montreal based org CEC. Juntunen was the title holder at 205 in CEC but did not defend it once after losing, he also was 1-1 in a short stint with NFC much earlier this year. Narushima hails from Tokyo, Japan and fights with excellent karate with a very well balanced stand up attack. HE HAS NEVER been TKO’d, only being subbed 3 times as well. Narushima is a beast and 3 years older then Juntunen but has a reach disadvantage so he must move in and let his short punches with power unleash. Narushima also won a belt recently and lost in his first defense. He is a long time IMMA fighter and compiled a 4-2 record there and is representing IMMA against NFC. He was never able to beat Kauno Kaalikorva though losing 3 times to the same man, twice by submission! Narushima is very flexible as well but we will most likely see an all stand up battle as the two never attempt takedowns. Juntunen is more of a quick KO artist and Narushima is more of the wear-and-tear fighter and attempts a ridiculous amount of leg kicks. Narushima was considered one of the best young talents out there when he started out 15-0, since that he is 9-6 against a step up in competition. There is no question though this will have fist flying back and forth mostly from a striking distance. Juntunen looks to come out a bit stronger from the gates though but if this gets to the third round expect Narushima to take over. Both have rock hard jaws that’ll be tough to break through. This will be a tough test for both fighters.

Prediction: Narushima wins a decision. These two both have too good of chins for there to be a knockout. Juntunen might steal the first round but Narushima will take this in the later rounds with devastating kicks to weaken his opponents body. 29-28 decision in favor of Narushima.

Main Card: Fighting In the Super Heavyweight Division: Niklas Nort(12-3) versus Iiro "The Man" Tolonen(37-13)

Tolonen is a legend in the MMA community. He is the current champ in the super heavyweight division although this is a non-title fight. Although his career has tailed off a bit as he is 3-5 in his last eight fights, he still owns 74 percent win percentage and is facing a fight NINE YEARS younger than him tonight! One wonders how Tolonen keeps it up. He has beaten the likes of Golden Glory, Jobe Nkemakolam, and Starship pain but has lost at the hands of the best including former number 1 fighter Anton Chigurh. Tolonen won’t be making a rise to number 2 pound for pound fighter anymore, but he can certainly continue his amazing Hall of Fame career where he has fought 28 fights in NFC winning 22 of them! Enough about Tolonen though and on to Niklas Nort. Nort is a tough Finn Fighter who has 12 victories all by TKO…. ALL IN THE FIRST ROUND! He has also been TKO’d three times though, twice in the first round. He really is a boom or bust fighter. No big deal though as his strategy will be to find a way to knock Tolonen out quickly in the first. Also he has done it before, by way of a head kick. He prefers to use his fights and throw combinations, but he does have two TKO victories by kick so Tolonen better be wary in this rematch. Tolonen has 28 TKO victories but has had it done to him 11 times. For him to win this fight he needs to land the power punches first and show who really has the better chin. Tolonen’s manager- Opa Jokinen, has put countless fighters in the top ten and wants to put Tolonen back in there and with a win tonight he may be very close. Nort only has had 15 fights in his career and is only 25 so a loss for him wouldn’t be the end of the world, but another win over Tolonen would just continue to push his career forward. Nort took a step back after losing twice in a row and needs to show to the fans that he can last in a fight against a top name fighter again. He beat Tolonen the first time but I’m not sure if he can now after exploiting his weak chin the past two fights. Both are similar in size and stature and prefer to box but can incorporate some Muy Thai into their game as well. This should be a stand up war, and if Tolonen’s last two wins tell us anything- that experience and age can actually make you better when your skills decline.

Tolonen by KO in the 2nd round… I would say a decision victory but no way Nort’s chin last’s that long and he takes his third loss in a row.

Main Card: In the Super Heavyweight Division: Nino Blaze(23-7) versus T.J Cummings(17-8):

These two fighters are combined to be 40-15 but have one thing in common… They both have a loss to Iiro Tolonen. Also Cummings has lost by being cut 6 times and has been finished all 8 times he has lost, not too impressive. He does have 15 TKO victories though so he cannot be underestimated as he could take a disadvantage of any mistakes. Nino Blaze is coming off an extremely impressive win over Tore Rebo who had been coming off of a 4 fight win streak, and Blaze stopped him in his tracks with a TKO victory in the first round. He also is currently the heavyweight champion at only 214 pounds, ala Randy Couture eh!? Cummings was a former champ in the now extinct Sauna Fights. But now in the present Blaze is currently the 7th ranked super heavyweight in the world and could break top 5 with a victory here. His manager Rhasta Smokeleaf could use the victory as well in his quest to become the best in the world, he is arguably a top 5 manager in MMA today with his solid stable of fighters including former top 20 fighter in the world Saddam Hussain. The fighters are close in age with Blaze being 28 and Cummings only a year younger and Blaze has a slight edge in experience and a big one in winning percentage. Blaze even has an incredible upset TKO victory over Emeka Shakur, the man fighting in the main event tonight. 6 of his 11 losses though have come in NFC, showing how the step up in competition for Blaze has affected him. He is 11-6 in NFC whilst Cummings is only 1-2 in his so far short stint with NFC. The underdog is clearly Cummings here but he has some KO power so Blaze needs to be wary, but if Blaze executes properly he should come out on top this fight. The problem is though Blaze only weighs 214 pounds and is outweighed by Cummings by almost 100 pounds, but Blaze should be much faster and avoid the power punches from Cummings. Don’t expect this fight to end up on the ground either. It’s going to be a night of standing and banging in NFC on November 11th.

Prediction: Blaze by TKO in the third. He can wear Cummings down and avoid his hard punches and finish him late in the fight

Co Main Event: In the Super Heavyweight Division: Tore Rebo(20-8) versus Pertti Rauta(29-16)

Rebo aka “The Torpedo” has been a force in NFC, with a record of 3-1 with wins over Tolonen, Nort, and Cummings who are all top super heavyweights. He is also a former belt holder in Blitz: Reach now extinct but a legendary fight organization. Rauta has never held a belt but is a former number 1 super heavyweight and has an experience advantage. Rauta is a tad past his prime at age 34 and Rebo is in his at age 29. Rauta in his current stint with NFC is 2-2 but his overall record in the organization is only 5-8. He is a legend in the MMA world but has not turned many heads in NFC and is well below .500, solidifying why he has not been given a title shot even with victories over Nort and Tolonen. The two combined have 39 TKO’s out of 49 victories! Expect this one to have fists flying while Rebo does more from outside with his reach advantage. Rebo is 225 centimeters tall and Rauta is only 192 centimeters tall, but Rauta can always get inside and test the latter’s chin. If Rebo can just keep picking off his opponent though it’ll be a rough night for Rauta who could get cut open, or just dominated in a decision victory. Tore Rebo has beaten some of the best in NFC with his .750 winning percentage and if he wins this against Rauta, I would consider him a title contender at super heavyweight… I should hope at least, and I guarantee the fans will cry for him to have a title shot at 4-1 in NFC against top competition. Rauta on the other end is on the tail end of his career and really needs a streak of wins to end his career on the right path, and a title shot does not seem evident. Both of these fighters have beaten the champ, Tolonen; but have not stringed together enough wins to warrant themselves at the top of the division, but they are definitely top 5 in NFC. If Rauta loses retirement soon may be evident but he has represented FinnFighters well over his career, but never getting a title belt may disappoint his great run in MMA. Rebo on the other hand still has much of his career ahead of him and is looking like the favorite in this matchup.

Prediction: Rebo by KO who keeps his run in NFC going

The Main Event of the Night: In the Heavyweight Division: Emeka Shakur 26-7-1 versus Harry Stroker(21-11)

Shakur is a big name in NFC, he has 25 TKO victories in 26 wins. He has quick hands and can put a man on his back quickly. He is currently the 7th ranked heavyweight in the world and a teammate of Iiro Tolonen’s. He has beaten the likes of Golden Glory, and Anton Chigurh- both former number one fighters in the world. He himself has been TKO’d 6 times though but has more often that not gotten to the other guy first. Stroker is also a FinnFighter boasting a black belt. Stoker has won 5 straight in NFC and has not lost, 3 by TKO and 1 by submission. He can bring this fight anywhere to try to beat Shakur, this could be the first of our Main Card fights to end up on the ground. Shakur though will try to use his shorter base to prevent takedowns. While Stroker can try to use his extra range to find a home for some combinations to open up takedowns, he is 15 centimeters taller than Shakur. Shakur though is 7-2-1 in NFC and he has really dominated the division and if he wins this fight he solidifies his claim as the best at heavyweight in NFC. Shakur is currently 4th ranked in NFC and 29th pound for pound in the world, a win definitely puts him in the top 25 and borderline top 20. While Stroker is top 100 in the world but he would like to push for top 50 and a win here would be a great start, he is 7th overall pound for pound in NFC. This fight though is sure to have rave reviews though if it goes as planned. It’s between two top ten fighters in the organization alone and it is a big time main event. Don’t take a bathroom break during this one folks, you need to see this action. I think overall though it comes down to whoever is the better fighter, will win.

Prediction: I firmly believe Shakur is a top 5 heavyweight in the world and gets a TKO victory over Stroker

Blurbs about the under card:

Ej Balingit is a former super heavyweight title holder and stands at 29-9 and will go up against Paul Polter(20-5) who is only 2-2 in NFC and had an NC against Balingit, he is 4 years younger and 16 inches shorter and may be outmatched.

Former title holder Hiro Protagonist(30-12-1) goes up against former belt holder Kalle Reinikainen(22-9). This is their fourth matchup and Hiro is 2-1 against Kalle. Both have struggled as of late but Kalle made it all the way to number 2 pound for pound in the world. Both fighters though ARE 0-2 in their last two title fights and are not in line for a title shot with a win, but it could boost them several spots in the 185 ranks.

Tony Tauno(19-11) has won three in a row at heavyweight and faces Mikko Kyatta(22-17). 32 TKO’s between them, look for a finish. Big FinnFighters matchup.

Rich Silva(24-9) was a great fighter at super heavyweight… But has lost all three of his matches in NFC. He has 9 TKO’s and 8 submission victorites. Adam Resso(3-5-1) has lost 4 in a row and had an NC against Silva originally. Silva is 7 years older and should finish Resso.

That’s all for tonight, enjoy the fights- This was Bob Jones for Nordic Fire Championship- whose sponsor is Beast Mode based in Las Vegas. Have a good one MMA fans.

NFC: 171 Jokinen versus Taalasmaa

This Fight is going to be one of the biggest events in NFC history as the number 1 and number 2 heavyweights face off in the world. The last event will be tough to beat as it was the highest rated event in NFC history! But this event is sure to turn heads too and we have a huge card planned for you… The fans

Main Card Fight: Welterweight Division(170) Dirk Zeldenthuis(25-7) versus Tauno Palo(35-20-1)

These two fighters are the definition of veterans. Palo has 56 career fights and has fought in 4 organizations. He has been a champion in 2 orgs and a contender in all 4. His career is on the tail end though and he is now 31, but he still has gas left in the tank as he is 5-2 in his last 7 at NFC. His overall record in NFC is 7-7 and he is coming off a title loss to Doc Chillum who is still champ. Palo is very aggressive standing and in the clinch and likes to stand and bang but has shown vulnerability with his chin and ground game. His attack is superb and his defense is mediocre at best. He will look to attack Zeldenthuis and have him reeling backwards. Zeldenthuis has won two straight and a couple more wins should give him a title shot. Both Palo and Dirk were both formerly TKO’d by Doc Chillum, reducing the fan’s eagerness to see these two take on the champ again. Zeldenthuis was champ though and defended it four times before losing the belt to Chillum. Zeldenthuis is 13-6 in NFC and has beaten Palo before by a dominating decision in which Palo was controlled. Zeldenthuis has an amazing gas tank with 16 wins by decision and he wants to take this to the ground and control Palo. Whether he can get him down is the question though. Palo’s strategy will be to use his reach advantage and try to pick off the former champ.

Prediction: Zeldenthuis repeats what happened last time and gets an easy unanimous decision and he moves to 26-7

Main Card: Lightweight (155) Takanori Gomi(24-5-1) versus Sven S Svensson(15-8)

Svensson is one of the toughest fighters to beat ever. He is not the fighter who is most talented and will dominate in victories, but boy is he tough to beat. Svensson in 23 fights has not been finished or even wobbled! Gomi wants to change that on the 17th though at NFC: 171 and he has the credentials to do it. Gomi has 14 TKO’s and 2 submissions for victories and he can get fights on the ground or keep it standing. Gomi even has a victory over champ Jokinen even though he has lost the last 2 against him. Gomi is 5-4 in NFC and a former title holder and former top 10 fighter.. In the world. Svensson has his hands full here against a more talented fighter, but Svensson has the heart and chin to take it too him. Gomi can take this fight anywhere and why not the mat as Svensson is taken down 44 percent of the time! It would be tough to KO Svensson there though but a controlling victory could give him the decision. For Svensson to win he needs to go in guns ablaze and hope he can meet with Gomi’s chin who has only been TKO’d twice in 30 fights. Gomi is even a former number 1 lightweight in the world but is 3-4 in his last 7 and has struggled a bit more than people thought he would in the legendary NFC. This fight is between two guys on the outside looking in on a title fight, but it’s sure to be a absolute battle and the question for this fight is “Can Gomi be the first to finish Svensson?”. There is no significant reach advantage and both fighters prefer to be at striking range rather than in the clinch. Gomi can get it to the ground though and I expect him to use this to his advantage.

Prediction: Gomi doesn’t get the finish but gets a solid 30-27 decision in my eyes over Svensson who just can’t handle the tough Japanese MMA legend of Gomi

Main Card: Light Heavyweight: Billy Batts(21-6) versus Marko Torturo(25-8-1)

Batts is another top Convicted Inc fighter, this time for manager Soyster Eighty-Nine, another top manager in the world with a top NFC light heavyweight in Batts. Batts is 7-1 in his last 8 and this is his DEBUT performance in NFC. We have yet to see if he can handle being in the top org in the world and it’s competition but he has fought in top orgs like Ascension and Gold Standard Fighting. He was a champ in the now extinct RHOE and Cult of Violence LA. Torturo has 15 wins by decision and 10 by TKO so he can go either way. He has fought all of his career in NFC and Fire FC the former to NFC. He is the current 205 champ and while this isn’t a title match he still has a lot to prove seeing how he has not defended it yet. He is 9-2-1 in his last 12 though and is really hot right now and is looking tough for Batts to stop. Batts though has some pop in his punches with 14 TKO victories but it all changes against the champ in Torturo who is among the hottest fighters in MMA right now in the world. These guys are both top 100 though pound for pound in the world but Torturo is top 5 in the Light Heavyweight division in the world and a win can only rise him up in the ranks. In terms of competition these guys have faced the best. Batts recently had a win over Taj Al Din- an alliance mate and top 25 fighter in the world, and Torturo has faced everyone and their brother in NFC- which is the most competitive fight organization in the world. This one is evenly matched and will be quite the entertainment for fans.

Prediction: Torturo by decision, he is a beast and will continue to carve his way through the LHW division in NFC

Co Main Event: The Welterweight(170) Champ: Doc Chillum(23-6) versus Alan Bundy(30-11)

Chillum is the champ at 170 and has really concreted his spot in the 170 pound division in NFC. His domination has proven how good of a fighter he is 11-2 in his last 13 with 1 loss coming to Jokinen- the best fighter NFC has to offer and the top lightweight in the world. Alan Bundy comes over from GAMMA where he had won his last 3 fights in a row. He was and is still champ of the welterweight division in GAMMA and won the belt on two separate occasions and defended it 12 times.. That MUST be a record right??? If anyone has a chance to topple Chillum for the belt it’s definitely the experienced and hardened Bundy. Chillum has defended his belt three times now and Bundy is looking to get his second belt. Bundy is four years older and has 12 more fights of experience but a lower winning percentage. Bundy though is very diverse with 11 TKO victories, 3 by submission, and 16 by decision. He can take this fight to the ground where Chillum does not like to be at all as proved in the Jokinen fight. Chillum likes to let his hands fly with 15 TKO victories but he is more about winning fights then dominating them, and that’s not bad at all. Chillum likes to pick apart guys and if he see’s them get wobbly he attacks and finishes, but it is better to be safe then sorry and he prefers to stay outside and let his shots hit home over and over. Bundy is a type of opponent though Doc has only faced a couple of times and has struggled with. Chillum is the favorite at the casino but I think that Bundy should be with his excellent wrestling and defense.

Prediction: Bundy get’s some takedowns and wins a decision victory

The Main Event: The Top Two Light Weights in the world: Otso Jokinen(31-5) versus Seppo "Suppo" Taalasmaa(37-16)

Jokinen has won the NFC Lightweight belt twice and has defended it 12 times but he won’t need to worry about losing it here in this non-title match. His record in NFC is 25-3! He is a legend and Hall Of Famer and has been ranked number one in the world pound for pound, he has 22 TKO victory’s and throws hard punches and kicks and even has a solid clinch game and can fight on the ground proficiently as well. In the other corner he faces another veteran of 53 fights, Taalasmaa. Taalasmaa has won 7 straight in IMMA but has lost to Jokinen before by being TKO’d in the 4th round in NFC. This fight is non-title but is 5 round so we will have some championship rounds which was a struggle last time for Taalasmaa against Jokinen. Taalasmaa landed takedowns but wasn’t successful when finally on the ground, and Jokinen just picked him apart on the feet in the stand up game. Taalasmaa needs to get more work done on the ground and try to put Jokinen away. Jokinen has only been finished twice so this is no easy task but Taalasmaa has 10 TKO victories and 13 submission victories so he has no trouble putting guys away. Jokinen is a different talent though, he is the BEST lightweight fighter in the world. Taalasmaa is only 10-6 in Fire FC/NFC and has struggled a bit at times in the world’s top fighting organization. Taalasmaa will have a decent experience advantage and small reach advantage but Jokinen likes to get up in his face and throw rockets for punches. Taalasmaa has beaten 7 straight but none of them were as good as Otso Jokinen. My money is with Jokinen this fight.

Prediction: Jokinen wins by TKO… But earlier this time, in the 2nd or 3rd round

NFC: 171 Jokinen versus Taalasmaa Review

Bob Jones here again MMA fans and one of the biggest MMA events in history just went down and I myself was 4-1 in my predictions! Not bad and I made a bit ah money at the casino too. Here is the lowdown on the fights in case you missed what happened or you just want an expert’s opinion.

Main Card Fight: Welterweight Division(170) Dirk Zeldenthuis(25-7) versus Tauno Palo(35-20-1)

Zeldenthuis is who I took to win and he delivered. I also took him to win in a unanimous decision in which he did! He landed 4 of 6 takedowns and controlled the action and dominated on the ground. His key to victory was staying on top of the tough Palo and grinding out a victory. Going for a KO would be nice but Palo has a tough chin so Zeldenthuis played is safe and got an important victory and is now 26-7. Also in the clinch he out struck Palo 17 to 6 including some vicious uppercut’s that just padded the judges scorecard’s and Zeldenthuis proved definitely he was the better fighter. Even standing at striking range he was very even with the veteran Palo who attempted 27 kicks but only landed 6. Dirk avoided most of Palo’s strikes and Palo could not land power shot’s flush which would have been his biggest chance to take a victory. In the first round it was very close with the fighters going back and forth. Dirk landed a takedown and could not do much with it and the fight went in and out of the clinch several times. The first round was slow paced but the fighters struggled and it was very even. The second round came and Dirk shot quickly for a takedown but did nothing with it. Standing up though he knocked around Palo for 3+ minutes and brought it in the clinch and threw some haymakers and took the round. In the 3rd round it got ugly as Zeldenthuis took Palo down and threw repeated blow’s to his head and rocked him and almost got a KO victory but stayed wary. Zeldenthuis fully sealed his victory with a dominating 2nd and 3rd round, not quite 10:8 round but he did fully win a good decision victory.

Main Card: Lightweight (155) Takanori Gomi(24-5-1) versus Sven S Svensson(15-8)

I took Gomi in a decision victory here due to Svensson’s tough chin and he won a extremely close majority decision. Gomi attempted 15 takedown’s but only landed two but when he was on top he was winning easily. Svensson showed huge heart and toughness facing a much better fighter who was a former number 1 lightweight in the world. Gomi I believe did win this fight in my eyes 29:28 and took the first two rounds but got lazy and got beaten by Svensson in the 3rd. Gomi easily took the first two rounds with a good arsenal of punches and kicks and some clinch work as well, he was frustrated though he could not land any takedowns. When Gomi got a takedown in the first round though he got a couple of shots in on the ground and took that round easily. Gomi goes on to face Vladimir Solovyev who has 24 wins and has lost to Gomi before. Gomi is hoping to ride in coming off of this win over Svensson.

Main Card: Light Heavyweight: Billy Batts(21-6) versus Marko Torturo(25-8-1)

I took Torturo by decision here for this fight and that is just what he did in winning a 29:28 unanimous decision. Marko Torturo had lost the 1st round but came back to easily win the next 2 rounds in a great come from behind victory. Torturo just won his fourth in a row and will be defending his belt soon. He put his elite Muy Thai to use and dominated Batts with a battering clinch game and devastating kicks. The kicks and knee’s slowed Batts down and Torturo took advantage of him throughout the fight. Batts fought valiantly and stole the first round after beating up Torturo a bit with some hard punches and even cut up Marko lightly towards the end of the round, he controlled the clinch for this round only as Torturo turned it up in the later rounds. Torturo use a variety of kicks both high and low in the latter rounds to slow Batts down and he was also able to clinch up and throw some mean elbows and knee’s to prove to the judges he deserved a victory. This win really showed Torturo’s gas tank off after losing a round and coming back to dominate the next too. Don’t count Batts out of anything at Light Heavyweight in the world though as he has moved on to Empire and will look to show off his granite chin there. Right now after that victory though Torturo is the 3rd ranked light heavyweight in the world! He will now look to defend his belt for the first time against former CEC champ- Tomi Juntunen who is 1-0 in NFC. This fight though between Batts and Torturo definitely kept the fans entertained though with their clash of hard kicks and knee’s and put towards the record setting ratings.

Co Main Event: The Welterweight(170) Champ: Doc Chillum(23-6) versus Alan Bundy(30-11)

I took Alan Bundy to finally topple the Welterweight champ here at NFC and boy was I ever wrong and it put a blemish on my record. Doc Chillum took a unanimous victory in 5 rounds over Bundy. He won a close one though 49-47, 48-47, 48-47. Chillum showed his superiority though on the ground as he was taken down 4 times yet a single punch did not land on him and only one submission was attempted by Bundy, it was more of a lay and pray tactic that did not pay off. The fight started off in the 1st round with the fighters trading blows and Chillum landing some significant leg and body kicks while Bundy landed a couple big right hand’s. Late in the round Bundy landed a takedown but could not land a strike and the round ended with him on top not able to do much but control. The second round came and Bundy landed more significant strikes then Chillum did and landed two takedowns, although he did not do much with them he had more cage control. Also Bundy landed harder strikes and kept Chillum moving backwards for a lot of the round. After watching the second round all of the judges had Bundy winning so far and I believed that he could pull it off against the champ. Doc Chillum is the champ for a reason though and came back and won rounds 3,4,and 5. In round three he immediately brought the fight in the clinch and did some damage with some dirty boxing and he out struck Bundy from the clinch over the course of the fight, Doc took the 3rd round handily. In the fourth round Chillum finally got the better of Bundy on the feet and started throwing some excellent blow’s to his chin. Bundy became frustrated and landed a takedown but got to eager and Chillum sweeped him and ended up in mount but neither fighter did any damage on the ground. The fifth round came and Bundy was exhausted and Chillum looked a bit fatigued too. Chillum landed several hard kicks though and defended takedowns and won that round as well. The champ had come through winning three straight rounds to retain his title, Alan Bundy put up quite the fight though. Chillum will now face Fight Day FC champ Ricardo Gracie in a super fight in NFC, both fighters are ranked in the top ten in the world for their weight class. Bundy has now resigned to GAMMA where he is a title holder.

The Main Event: The Top Two Light Weights in the world: Otso Jokinen(31-5) versus Seppo "Suppo" Taalasmaa(37-16)

I decided to take Jokinen in an early TKO victory as he did to Taalasmaa before in their original fight in the fourth round. This fight went to a decision though and all of the judges ruled in favor of the now number one fighter pound for pound in the world.. Otso Jokinen. And boy was it close as all three judges ruled in favor of Jokinen 48-47, this was a barnburner that capped off the NUMBER ONE EVENT IN NFC HISTORY! The first round started off with a bang as Jokinen took the fight in the clinch and used a variety of punches in a dirty boxing technique to get the upper hand on Taalasmaa. Taalasmaa landed a takedown and landed a couple strikes to the head of Jokinen. Taalasmaa almost swayed the judges to give him the round but late in the round Jokinen jumped back up. Jokinen had vastly out stuck Taalasmaa on the feet though and the judges gave him that round. The second round came and Taalasmaa grabbed a takedown and held it for the whole round. Jokinen defended well but Taalasmaa got in some good shots and controlled the whole round although he could not make it past guard and Jokinen even landed a sweep and got on top but Taalasmaa soon regained control. On the ground Taalasmaa out struck Jokinen 15:1 all fight long! Jokinen would lose this round due to his inactivity on the ground although he did dodge a lot of strikes, but Taalasmaa showed control. In the third round Jokinen took it to go up 29:28 on all judges score cards. Jokinen landed a couple of leg kicks to slow his opponent down and mixed up his punches going high and low. Taalasmaa surprisingly got the fight in the clinch himself where both fighters landed a couple of shots. Jokinen though landed more power strikes including a couple of huge uppercut’s in the clinch and secured this round. In the fourth round Taalasmaa held a takedown for a little over four minutes and grazed Jokinen with strikes over and over even though over half didn’t land. Taalasmaa even got to advance position getting to full mount and dropping some elbows but could not finish it. To his credit though Jokinen has quite the chin but Taalasmaa took this round clearly in the judges eyes and now after four rounds it was all tied up 38:38... The fifth round came and it was a battle, both fighters were now sweating profusely and fatigued. The fight moved in and out of the clinch twice but the majority of the round was spent in it. Taalasmaa landed a nice elbow at one point but Jokinen’s dirty boxing just kept beating up Taalasmaa. Jokinen took this round and the fight and became the number one fighter in the world. What a fight and what an event though, credit to all fighters on the night for a job well done. Taalasmaa proved he can stand and bang with the best of the world, but Jokinen again reigns supreme and moves to 32-5 and will now face Roddy Piper(32-9-1) who is the champ at CFC and Taalasmaa moves back to IMMA to defend his belt

NFC 172: Smith versus Stark

Bob Jones here from mmajunkie.com and free lance reporter, NFC just keeps getting better and better everyone. Their past two events have been their top in history and top 5 in the world’s history and now long time fighter Otso Jokinen is number 1 in the world! No reason why NFC can’t do it again though! Here we go!

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1354214945NFC173.jpg

Main Card Bout: Hug "E" Raction(16-7) versus Niklas Nort(13-3) in the Superheavyweight division 265+

Hug Raction

Versus

Niklas Nort

These two are considered “inexperienced” by NFC standards (even though they have 39 fights between them) but do possess loads of talent. Nort has proven himself at NFC over and over now beating Iro Tolonen twice now, the man that is a legend now in NFC and former number 2 ranked fighter. Nort won by KO in his last fight over Tolonen in the first round just a few weeks ago! And he did it months ago with a head kick in the first round! His chin has had its own troubles though and he has been TKO’d 3 times. Nort has won every single fight of his fights by TKO in the first round so he is a big time “boom or bust” guy but he makes it work effectively and is ranked very high in NFC. Raction comes over from IMMA where he is 3-2 there and coming off of 2 straight wins over tough fighters. He has 15 TKO’s in 16 victories and in 7 losses he has been TKO’d 7 times… Another boom or bust guy. This one is going to and I guarantee it, in a knockout! Who does it first is another question. Raction is a bit better of a boxer and Nort is a tad better in Muy thai and neither fighter intends for this fight to end up on the ground. Wow we have a tough one to predict here ladies and gentlemen. Raction’s recent victory over Tomi Koski by KO was superb and Nort has beaten the best NFC has to offer. Expect this to be kept standing, and at striking distance. Nort throws a bit more kicks but look for mostly hand strikes from two very powerful super heavyweights. Nort has a 30 pound weight advantage and a 15cm height advantage so he will have some reach but Raction will be a bit quicker. Other than that though these fighters look pretty even.

Prediction: Nort by TKO in the 1st round.. I can’t pick against Nort again!

Main Card Bout: Arni Ironz(12-4) versus Pertti Rauta(30-16) in the super heavyweight division

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/12/12w2.jpgArnie Ironz

Versus

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/15/15b17.jpgPertti Rauta

Ironz is another fighter coming over from IMMA in their heated rivalry in NFC. Ironz has much less experience then Rauta but has extreme power behind his strikes with 11 TKO victories! He likes to mix up his strikes going for the head and the body and throws a good amount of kicks too and has some dangerous high kicks! Ironz has been finished all four times he has lost, three by TKO and one by submission. Rauta is one of the most experienced fighters NFC has too offer and is 10 years older and probably a tad slower then Ironz with all 46 fights on his legs. Rauta has 22 TKO victories though and has fought the best NFC has too offer as well. He has recently beaten Tore Rebo and Niklas Nort and beat the latter by TKO. Rauta likes to stand and bang but would prefer too from the clinch where he throws nasty sharp edged elbows and knees. Rauta will give up 15 pounds to Ironz but has a 4cm height advantage and will be the taller skinnier fighter, an advantage for a muy thai fighter who likes to throw knee’s to the head! Ironz strategy will be to use some leg kicks to slow Rauta down and throw some big shots to try to KO Rauta who has a great gas tank. Don’t expect this fight to go to the ground either, tonight is a stand and bang party! Ironz manager is currently number 1 in the world right now though so that is good having a manager on a hot streak certainly! Never underestimate a finnfighter though in Rauta who will battle till the end. This one is very even and both men have their strength’s and flaws as well. Rauta has a clinch and muy thai advantage while Ironz has a bit more KO power and the hottest manager right now.

Prediction: I’m going with the edge in experience here… Rauta wins a grinding 29:28 decision victory

Main Card: Nino Blaze(24-7) versus Jack Tripper(22-10) in the Super Heavyweight division

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/1/1w20.jpgNino Blaze- The Champ

Versus

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/9/9w9.jpgJack Tripper

Newcomer Jack "The Ripper" Tripper comes over from IMMA with 3 consecutive victories, 13 TKO victories, and 9 submission victories. He is now 35 years old and a grizzled veteran. He holds 6 years of age experience over Blaze who is an NFC keep sake. Jack Tripper likes to get the fight on the ground often too but is not slouch in the stand up game. He throws a decent amount of leg kicks to slow his opponents down and likes to throw some big shots to his opponents head. Jack Tripper ended his career in Genesis as the champ in the Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight divisions winning 5 in a row there before the organization disbanded. He also showed off in his last two fights his ability to go to later rounds, but he is only 3-5 in decision decided fights in his career, but has used his KO power to his advantage. His strategy is looking like to rough up Blaze standing up and if that doesn’t work he can always go for takedowns as wrestling is another strength of his. Blaze comes in off of two victories in a row and he has 19 TKO victories and likes to stand and bang. His strategy is looking like took keep it standing and throw mean kicks and punches mostly. He has some good dirty boxing skills from the clinch too and has a decent gas tank and may have a slight advantage in each of those. Blaze is the champ in the Heavyweight division for a reason and wants to keep proving to the fans why. He had recent TKO victories over TJ Cummings and Tore Rebo.. His punches can open up opponents to cuts too leaving them blind and at risk to the doctor. Nino Blaze just turned 29 on the 29th of November so a win for him would be a nice present to himself. Ripper has a 70 pound weight advantage over the champ Blaze but Blaze will be quicker and dart in and out but Ripper will be blasting from downtown. Blaze has shown he can hang with the big boys though and I like him here.

Prediction: Blaze in a decision victory 29:28 and keeps hanging with the big boys

Co Main Event: Congo Ashantie(24-4) Naoto Sugawara (22-7)versus in the Super Heavyweight Division

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/39/39b18.jpgCongo Ashantie

Versus

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/38/38w2.jpg Naoto Sugawara

Beast. That is one word to describe Ashantie who is a top 50 fighter in the world who has won 7 fights in a row coming over from IMMA. He has beaten Ironz and Raction who are both also on this card and beat them back-to-back with KO punches in the first round! He once had a 6 fight streak of all TKO victories and recently had a 5 fight streak of all TKO victories as well. He is 7-2 in decision victories so he can take a fight the distance as well and has a great cardio stature. Naota Sugawara has some power though with 19 TKO’s in 22 victories, he will also have 65 pounds on Ashantie. Both fighters are the same age but Ashantie seems to be the better overall fighter in all aspects of the game slightly. Ashantie is from Jamaica and represents his country proudly. He loves to throw chopping leg kicks and knees and has a great Muy Thai background but don’t underestimate his hand strikes or boxing either. His manager Ital Scratch knows what he is doing as well and will have a great game plan for Ashantie. Sugawara represents Japan and is 2-2 in NFC and coming off a loss against Harry Stroker. These two have never faced off either so it’s something new for the fans as well. Sugarawa is more of a dirty boxer liking to lean and dig in the clinch. He can tear at the opponent until they open up and gets TKO’s. Sugarawa has never faced someone as good as Ashantie and has lost to the two best opponents he has face so let’s see if he can finally topple a big name fighter. I’m leaning towards Ashantie with this one due to his amazing striking and overall ability as an MMA fighter. Also- Sugaraw has been TKO’d all 7 times he has lost.

Ashantie get’s a 2nd round TKO against the weaker chinned less battle tested Sugarawa

YOUR MAIN EVENT: Peter Smith(31-13) versus Thomas Stark(32-10) Light Heavyweight Division 205

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/34/34w3.jpg Peter Smith

Versus

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/2/2w13.jpgThomas Stark

This is another one for the ages. Smith comes over from IMMA where he has dominated and has won 6 fights in a row against the best fighters in the division and he has been closing in on top 50 pound for pound in the world. He faces Thomas Stark here who is another legend and a fighter from NFC. He has gotten all the way to 6th ranked pound for pound in the world and had 3 title defenses for the Light Heavyweight belt before losing it to Marko Torturo(who he had beaten twice before, once by TKO). He has beaten top fighters like Torturo, Phil Ivey, De Vos, and beat former number two pound for pound fighter and NFC legend Kalle Reinikainen. He is currently 6-2 in NFC and 6 of those fights have been title fight! He is 4-2 in title fights which is very impressive. Smith is not taking Stark lightly though and will have his own arsenal to try to win the fight. Smith is big on boxing and tries to throw much more strikes then his opponent but takes a lot in return. He has 21 TKO victories but often they are dragged out and he likes to wear down opponents rather than go for quick KO’s. He prefers at striking distance but is potent in the clinch too and will not take this fight to the ground. Stark is a bit taller and thinner then Smith and has less POW to his punches but is equally dangerous. Stark is 14-6 in decision victories and would like to bring this one all three rounds where he could have an advantage in the later rounds versus Peter Smith. Stark likes to fight from the clinch much more and likes to drag the fight out and control. He throws a lot of knees though if he gets a Muy Thai clinch and can get TKO’s that way with a knockout or by cut. He often gets hit more than he gives hits but he has a very tough chin and can be tough to put away. This matchup is a tough one and Smith would like to grab a knockout earlier and Stark wants to lean and clinch and throw a couple good dig strikes and wear out his opponent.

Prediction: Stark by decision. Drags this out in the clinch.

NFC 176 Jokinen vs Egyptian Preview

The excitement is growing for NFC 176 featuring one of the greatest match-ups of all-time with world pound for pound number one vs two. That noise you may have heard this week was One Bad Man. Moses Diggs is in Helsinki to face long time NFC vet and Light Heavy Champ Torturo and he has predicted bad things for Torturo. Can he back it up? If nothing else, we are fairly sure he doesn't like Communists.

http://mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1356637598nfc176.jpg

Before we get to all of that…Let's take a look at the Main Card…

Light Heavy: Narushima vs Juntunen

Narushima, former IMMA middleweight champion has the advantage of experience. The 24 year old is going into his 31st career fight. His opponent, Juntunen is only 24 years old entering his 20th career fight, but he has the size advantage with about three inches reach and ten pounds before dropping weight. Both fighters have suffered recent losses by submission, but this is likely to be decided standing up (or falling down..). Juntunen's last fight was a majority decision (3-2 one all cards) loss to Torturo for the NFC light heavyweight title. Narushima last fought in early Oct where he lost the IMMA middleweight belt by submission.

Light Heavy: Pinta vs Smith

Pinta is a long time NFC veteran and former NFC Light Heavyweight Champ. He lost the belt to Stark by TKO at NFC 157 and failed to get it back suffering another TKO at NFC 166. He rebounded with a unanimous decision win at NFC 174 just 17 days ago. Smith came to NFC on a six fight win streak in IMMA, but also came crashing down with a KO loss to Stark at NFC 172.

Smith is a devastating puncher who won three straight TKO victories recently at IMMA. Pinta tends to mix in more kicks, but both tend to keep the fight standing and out of the clinch. Whether that will stay true in this fight remains to be seen, but expect an exciting one that is likely to end early.

Middleweight: Protagonist vs Takala

Protagonist won the NFC middleweight belt by KOing Reinikainen at NFC 137 and is recently on a two fight win streak once again knocking out Reinikainen at NFC 170 and following that with a unanimous decision win over Asteroid at NFC 173. Protagonist last fought for the title at NFC 167 losing a unanimous decision to Uros.

Takala is making his Nordic Fire debut while riding a four fight win streak with three of those by knockout. Takala is the younger, less experienced fighter, 25 years old and with only 20 career fights he is looking at a bit of a step up in competition. The 35 year old Protagonist is out to keep his own win streak showing the youngster he still has a lot in the tank.

While Takala does have a win by armbar early in his career, don't look for him to pull guard anytime soon. Both fighters like to mix it up from the outside and this one could likely end with someone's lights going out.

Co-Main Event - Light Heavy: Torturo vs Diggs:

To some, failure to re-distribute wealth to the workers would be considered capitalist exploitation of the common worker and reason to form a union or something. To Diggs, sitting on a lot of money makes you a communist, but hey, after what he did to Orochi I suppose a communist can be whatever the hell he wants. In any case, I am fairly sure communist = something Diggs doesn't like all that much. He has predicted an abundance of pain to people he doesn't like all that much and he is capable of delivering.

That right folks, contract issues in the rear view mirror, Diggs has has braved communist Helsinki to deliver a beating to Nordic Fire Champ Torturo…but of course, Torturo may not like that plan all that much. Anyway, lets look at the fighters for a bit shall we?

Torturo has not been as vocal as Diggs going into the fight (but hey, that is a high bar to reach to be fair), but the NFC Champ is on a five fight win streak. His last fight was a majority decision win over Juntunen at NFC 174. His last loss was a KO loss to Stark at NFC 160 which he avenged by defeating Stark for the title at NFC 169. All of Torturo's recent victories have been by decision, so, don't look for him to score the KO.

Diggs only recent loss was a majority decision to Boba Fett with his other three most recent fights ending by KO. He rebounded from the loss to Fett with a devastating first round KO of IMMA champ Orochi. He has predicted a win by mass application of pain (or something to that effect) and I suspect he may try to end this one early.

Main Event - Welterweight: Jokinen vs Egyptian

In an historic main event, it's the world's pound for pound #1 vs #2. IMMA, Empire and NFC have gotten together to make it happen and it doesn't get any bigger than this folks. Let's take a look at just how they got here.

Jokinen, NFC Lightweight Champ, last lost at NFC 148 to Gomi and is on a ten fight win streak with six of those coming by TKO. He avenged the loss to Gomi with a TKO in NFC 159 and a unanimous decision in NFC 169. In his last fight he scored a TKO against CFC featherweight champ Roddy Piper. At NFC 171 he beat IMMA Lightweight Champ Taalasmaa by unanimous decision. Jokinen is a bit underweight fighting at welter, but he beat NFC welterweight champion Doc Chillum at NFC 167 last time he fought at that weight.

Egyptian comes in the reigning IMMA Welterweight champion and is on an eleven fight win streak of his own with seven of those coming by KO/TKO. He scored an historic win his last time out with a unanimous decision over Sam Hall. Hall is a former #1 pound for pound fighter who was considered by many the favorite in that fight.

Both fighters prefer to keep the fight standing and neither is afraid of going for the clinch. Both make heavy use of dirty boxing, but Egyptian has been known to mix in a few knees on occasion. Jokinen is fighting above his natural weight class and he is also giving up over six inches in height to Egyptian. He is used to fighting opponents a couple of inches taller, but is giving up six inches in height to Egyptian and he is fighting above his natural weight class so the size advantage goes to Egyptian.

It doesn't get any bigger than pound for pound 1 vs 2 for all the bragging rights.

The first fight of the evening starts of in the 205lbs division, Stroker (28-11-1) is a sensational striker who will be making is fourth NFC appearance. Stroker was on an 8 fight unbeaten strike in Crashforce before making was way over to the NFC. He has since gone 1-2, most recently dropping a decision to Tomi Juntunen. His opponent, Silakka (13-9) is an exciting and dangerous striker himself. Silakka also came to NFC through Crashforce but lost his debut by TKO against Simon Adebisi. Both fighters need this win if they want to stay relevant in a division full of the world’s best. Both fighters like to stand and trade and it’s safe to say this fight is not going to a decision. I think Stroker has the better chin and would give him an edge.

Tony Tauno vs Harry Stroker

In the second fight of the night we have some heavyweight action as Tauno takes on Stroker. Tauno (21-14) is a NFC veteran known for his well rounded fighting style and exciting fights. Tauno is currently on a two fight skid, most recently getting KOed by Meridius. Tauno is getting older and if he wants to make one more run it needs to start here. Stroker (22-15) is a lanky fighter who uses his range well and will be making his 12th NFC appearance. Stroker started his career at 185lbs and is currently flipping between 265 and 265+, he most recently lost to Alistair Overeem by KO mid February. Both fighters are coming of recently losses and need to turn things around here. Tauno has a BJJ advantage and likes to offensively use his wrestling to exploit weaknesses his opponents might have on the ground. Stroker is hard to submit and will be looking to score from the outside but he needs to make sure he doesn’t spend too much time on his back.

EJ Balingit vs Tore Rebo

In the third fight of the night we go even bigger as this time the super heavyweights take centre stage to perform. Balingit (31-11) first fought for the NFC in 2011 and has had a long and successful career in the organisation. He managed to win the belt the first time he fought for it but has since had trouble in title fights and hasn’t been able to put wins together, he was most recently submitted by Mir at NFC 179. Balingit likes to strike and mix in nasty clinch work to give his fans a show. His opponent, Rebo (20-12) came into the NFC with a fair amount of hype and even managed to win his first three fights in the organisation. Since, however, he has lost 5 fights in a row and is really fighting for his job here. Rebo and Balingit both like to strike but Rebo has been KOed 9 times now in his career and one questions his chin and motivation at this point.

Bruce McBrain vs Huey Freeman

The fourth fight of the night sees a change in pace to the Welterweight division as McBrain takes on Freeman. McBrain (23-15) is a dangerous puncher with serious KO power proven by the fact that 20 out of his 23 victories come by (T)KO. He will be making his 5th NFC appearing and will be looking for his second victory under the organizational banner. Freeman (27-16-1) is a dangerous grappler who knows a thing or two about striking. Freeman likes to exploit his opponent’s weaknesses and looks for any way to finish a fight. Being a smart fighter he also makes sure to win rounds just in case he cannot get the finish. Freeman is a NFC veteran and recently snapped the first 3 fight skid in his career with an impressive first round stoppage of Kate Nyrkki. McBrain needs this win bad and Freeman wants to keep the momentum he just picked up again so this should be a good clash of styles fight.

Simon Adebisi vs Tomi Juntunen

In the last fight on the undercard we go back to the light heavyweight division for Adebisi vs Juntunen. Adebisi (26-13-1) is a NFC veteran who was once considered the best fighter at 205lbs who was always dangerous with his slick submission game. Adebisi has had a hard time getting back to his position and will look to build of his win over Simo Silakka. Juntunen (13-9) is one of the younger fighters at 205 being only 25 years old. Juntunen is a dangerous striker with KO power in his hands who always looks to excite the crowd. Juntunen is currently 2-3 in the NFC and will look to avoid losing 2 in a row. Classic striker vs grappler matchup here, will be interesting to see who can force their game on the other.

Marko Torturo vs Lowieke De Vos

In the first fight of the main card we have a great fight with the NFC light heavyweight title on the line. This fight is a rematch the first of which took place back at NFC 167 where Torturo took the UD victory home. Torturo (28-11-1) won his belt at NFC 169 and defended his title against Juntunen back at NFC 174 but hasn’t defended it since. Torturo went 1-3 in the super fights against champions from other orgs and is looking to get back on track by defending the belt he stills holds dear. His opponent, De Vos (16-4) is fighting under the NFC banner for the 7th time, most recently beating Juntunen by unanimous decision. De Vos is a dangerous boxer with good power in his hands and will be looking to test Torturo’s chin and will. Torturo is also an elite striker so the fans are in for a show.

Iiro Tolonen vs Pertti Rauta

In the second fight on the main card we have an amazing fight for the NFC Super Heavyweight title as two of the biggest fighters step in the cage to do battle. Tolonen (40-15) is a true veteran of MMA and the NFC having fought under the banner a whopping 31 times. Tolonen was once considered one of the pound for pound top 3 fighters and is even a member of the NFC hall of fame. Tolonen currently holds the belt and last defended it in bloody fashion against Nyrkki Sankaria. Tolonen is already 36 years old but still looks strong and dangerous every time he fights. His opponent, Rauta (31-19) is also 36 years and holds his best fighting days behind him but is still a relevant fighter in the division. Both these fighters have done and seen it all and prefer to fight on their feet. This one could easily come down to who wants it more.

Niklas Nort vs Frankestein Mir

In the third fight on the main card two more super heavyweights step in the cage to duke it out with Nort vs Mir. Nort (15-5) is a heavy handed striker proven by the fact that all of his wins came by way of (T)KO and many of them where straight up KO’s, definitely not someone against who you want to drop your hands. Nort most recently snapped his two fight skid, knocking out Tore Rebo with a head kick in the first round. Mir (24-11) is the polar opposite of Nort, being a submission fighter. Mir holds 15 submission wins on his record with a real affinity for kimuras and armbars. Mir fought under the IMMA banner and is set to make his fourth appearance for the NFC, he is currently riding a two fight win streak after submitting Balingit in the 2nd round back at NFC 179. The winner of this fight should get a big step up in competition which means they will both be going for it. We have the classic MMA match with a grappler taking on a striker.

Nikolai Kovalenko vs Alistair Overeem

In the co main event of the evening two hard hitting heavyweights take centre stage to warm every one up for the smasher of a main event. Kovalenko (29-11) is a long time PCL veteran. After winning the belt and defending it twice he decided it was time to join the NFC. His hype got derailed in his debut against Jack Trippier but he looks to get back on track against Overeem. Kovalenko loves to punch people in the face and the 24 TKOs to his name prove he is pretty good at it. Overeem (22-7) is a versatile and elite striker himself and reminded everyone of that when he viciously knocked out Stroker with a head kick back at NFC 181. Overeem has yet to go on a long win streak in the NFC so he will be looking to start one here. Both these guys like to stand and bang, this one is for the fans and probably won’t make it out of the first round.

Otso Jokinen vs Sam Hall

In the main event of the evening we have a spectacle the whole world has been waiting for as Jokinen once again moves up to 170 to face a top ranked fighter in Sam Hall. Jokinen (37-5) is a NFC hall of famer, the current number one pound for pound fighter and perhaps the best fighter of all times.

Jokinen is the two time NFC lightweight champion and has ruled that division for years which has led him to step up to 170 from time to time to take on one of that division’s top ranked fighters. Jokinen defeated Doc Chillum and Sinuhe Egyptian who where both considered the best welterweights at the time. He goes into these fights with a big size and height disadvantage which is ridiculous considering he could make 145 if he wanted too.

Sam Hall (39-8-2) is a legend in his own right having been the number one pound for pound fighter before. Currently, Sam is ranked 11th on the pound for pound scale and the best at 170 (excluding Jokinen). Sam is the Empire Welterweight champion and has been a champion in multiple other organizations, a true prize fighter.

Jokinen won the Doc Chillum fight by a controversial decision and even though he beat Egyptian fair and square it is safe to say he doesn’t get easy fights at 170. Both fights went the distance, with Jokinen dominating the clinch and stand up but fading in the later rounds. Hall might even be the hardest tests yet considering his weight advantage, he will probably be one of the heavier guys Otso has ever faced.

Otso is a heavy handed striker who likes to use his dirty boxing in the clinch as well as go for takedowns to secure rounds while Hall is an elusive striker who likes to outpoint you over 5 rounds while avoiding takedowns. Hall also likes to fight in the clinch and mixes up his MT well from there, he could have an advantage here considering his variety and weight will come into play well. Otso, being the lighter fighter, should be more agile and faster on the outside although he will have to deal with Hall’s range from here. Otso is the better wrestler and ground fighter but Hall is notoriously hard to takedown and submit.

Over 5 rounds Jokinen should get a chance to use his ground game and he could look for it here more than he usually does. Good luck picking a winner, this is the kind of fight where you cannot pick a winner because both guys are just such legends of the sport and have seen it all.

That concludes the preview of NFC 183: Jokinen vs Hall. For those of you who won’t make it to the live event in LA, make sure to catch the main event on PPV, you are not going to want to miss this!

Marko Torturo Vs Lowieke De Vos

The first fight on the main card featured the light heavyweight title fight and everyone was wondering whether Torturo still had the motivation and drive to defend his belt after his tough run as of late. The first round started with Torturo landing a big hook early on that stunned De Vos but he wasn’t hurt and proceeded to find his own range. De Vos tried to land takedowns throughout the round but Torturo managed to stuff them all. Both fighters where mixing up their strikes amazingly, throwing high and low kicks and a variety of punches. De Vos couldn’t take it to the mat but landed more punches and kicks as Torturo always had to watch out for takedowns as well. Both fighters started off aggressive in the second round, landing strikes but Torturo started finding his groove and landing more efficiently. Torturo manged to land a few hard body kicks which combined with yet more failed takedown attempts from De Vos really took a toll on De Vos’ cardio. De Vos managed to land a takedown late in the second round but did nothing with it and it was not enough to steal the round from the champ. Early in the third it became clear De Vos was tired, Torturo still had lots of gas in the tank and really began to light De Vos up. De Vos managed to show why he is always dangerous with a few strong counters but Torturo’s chin held up fine. De Vos continues to try and close the distance and manages to clinch up late in the third but quickly disengages himself. Torturo won a few more striking exchanges before getting takedown by De Vos at the very end of the round but it was once again not enough. Now three rounds into the fight, the champ has come back from a bad first round and looked very in control of the fight. In the fourth round you could see how all of the body and leg kicks had worn down De Vos. Being a tough dude he hung in there, looking to land his own shots but really got picked apart by the champ whose confidence was growing by the round. The fight would probably not have gone 5 rounds had De Vos not been so tough, he started to eat more and more shots as Torturo became increasing accurate and started working good combinations too. The decision was just a formality, as the champ retained his belt by unanimous decision. It as a valiant effort by De Vos but Torturo showed why he is considered one of the best at 205.

Iiro Tolonen vs Pertti Rauta

In the second fight of the evening we got to see two of the biggest fighters under contract with the NFC duke it out for the super heavyweight strap. The veteran Tolonen came out aggressive looking to mix up accurate shots with occasional power shots. Tolonen quickly managed to find his range and started peppering Rauta who did not seem to have an answer. About halfway through the fight Tolonen lands a huge head kick that sends Rauta down and had him cut up bad. Rauta was waved back to his feet by the big veteran and showed class by landing a takedown even though he was clearly rocked. Tolonen managed to get back up to his feet but Rauta seemed to have recovered. Rauto clinched up with Tolonen at the end of the first but it was a clear round for Tolonen. In the second round Tolonen once again looked to establish his jab and mix in kicks, Rauta landed some strikes of his own but was clearly not as good as Tolonen on the feet. With a bit more than a minute left Rauta manages to land a nice takedown into guard and started working his ground and pound. Tolonen managed to stop Rauta from mounting him but ended the round on his back, making it a tough one to score. The start of the third round looked very similar to the second, Tolonen was using his range well to land more strikes but Rauto started having some success with his own jab and leg kicks. The striking for that round was just about even until Rauto switched it up and took Tolonen down with a nice takedown. Had he kept top position, that could have secured the round but the savvy veteran landed a nice sweep right into full mount. Tolonen managed to end the round in mount, raining down punches on his opponent. It was another close round, but one that should probably go to Tolonen. By the fourth round you could tell that these guys are too big to be fighting for so long but they both stayed active. By this point of the fight the accuracy of both their strikes had gone down but Tolonen was still being more active. About half way through the round Tolonen started finding his range again and landing heavy leg kicks and few good uppercuts. Rauta started to work hard for the takedown but managed to get it with only a minute left. Tolonen worked from the bottom but Rauta managed to end the round in half guard. Once again, a really close round. Tolonen obviously did not want this fight to go the distance and came out swining for the final round, leaving it ALL in the cage. He managed to land some big shots on Rauta who was running on nothing but fumes at this point. It seemed like all Tolonen had to do was land one or two big shots because Rauta was just stumbling all over the cage with exhaustion. Rauta is a veteran though and knew he had a chance if this went the distance and hung in there like one tough SOB. The score cards where interesting, as two judges gave Tolonen all 5 rounds while one judge actually gave Ruata 2,3 and 4. I believe the decision was the right one in the end, Rauta made some of those rounds really close with his grit and drive but Tolonen was the better fighter without a doubt.

Frankenstein Mir vs Niklas Nort

In the third fight on the main card we had two more super heavyweights go at it as they battled for position in a tough division. Both fighters came out looking to land some strikes but it went to the ground within a minute with Mir landing a nice takedown. Nort, however, managed to land a kimura sweep right away and started controlling Mir. It was a good battle for position but Mir managed to land his own reversal and get back on top. In the final minute or so Mir managed to pass Norts guard and threaten him with submissions. In the second round Mir shot for a takedown and got it right off the bat but was once again swept and this time right into mount. Nort did a good job controlling from mount but wasn’t being too active, after a few minutes Nort managed to advance to Mir’s back and held this position the entire round. The third round of the fight was pretty uneventful, Mir once again landed a takedown early and started working his ground and pound. It wasn’t as fast as the times before, but once again Nort lands a sweep and takes top position. Mir wasn’t having this though and mange to slip out on to Nort’s back. Mir started looking for a RNC but more to pass the time, wasn’t really looking to finish. Nort worked hard to get Mir of his back and managed to turn in to half guard. Mir wasn’t being active from top at all so Nort got to full guard and tied up Mir. The referee had no choice but to stand these guys up for the last minute but neither fighter managed to land a strike. Arguably the least eventful fight on the card, Mir won the fight by decision but I don’t think many people cared.

Alistair Overeem vs Nikolai Kovalenko

After a snooze fest of a fight the fans where ready for some action and, thankfully, Overeem and Kovalenko delivered. The first round was a full on brawl, both fighters were coming forward looking to land their strikes with authority. Overeem was looking to land some good punches but was obviously looking for that high kick while Kovalenko used his range well to land some combos, leg kicks and a lot of body shots. Overeem took some strong punches on the jaw but showed a good chin and continued to stay in the pocket. It was tough to judge such a fast paced round but Kovalenko edged him by a margin. Overeem responded great in between rounds and seemed to have gotten some good advice from his corner because he immediately clinched up with Kovalenko at the start of round two. Right away Kovalenko was on the defensive as Overeem looked work his versatile clinch game. Kovalenko managed to break the clinch but Overeem would stay tight and lock him back up. A little over half way through the second round Kovalenko manages to break clinch again but ended up eating a big left right combo from Overeem on the feet. Overeem wave Kovalenko up and started chasing him down for the finish. Kovalenko hung in there and right when he seemed to be doing better Overeem lands another combo and this one knocks him out cold. Very impressive win for Overeem, lost that first round but came back and changed up the game on his opponent and finished the fight.

Otso Jokinen vs Sam Hall

The fans had waited all they could wait at this point and the roar was deafening as both fighters received a great reception on the way to the cage. At the start of the first round Hall throws a big head kick right away to show he means business, Jokinen replies by clinching up right away and negate that ridiculous range advantage. In the clinch we all know what Jokinen does he best and he started mixing in his word class dirty boxing with good effect. Jokinen also looked for takedowns but Hall managed to keep this fight on the feet. Hall was looking to break clinch but also used his MT against the legend and was throwing knees, elbows and punches every chance he got. Near the end of the round Hall manages to bring it back to range and both fighters exchanged strikes as the round came to an end. Most of the round took place in the clinch and Jokinen showed his superior control and dirty boxing to take that first round. In the second round Jokinen started to show off his striking, bouncing around effectively whilst landing strong leg kicks and good body punches. Once again Jokinen showed he had no trouble striking with bigger guys. Hall was working his own striking but wasn’t landing near as much as he normally does. About halfway through the second round Jokinen clinches up again and starts landing some nice uppercuts and punches on Sam Hall. Hall was working his own striking but was on the defensive mostly and even ended up on his back near the end of the round. Jokinen landed a nice takedown from the clinch and started controlling his opponent. Both fighters were not doing much on the ground and ref stood the up but there was barely any time left in the round. Another clear round for the champ as he managed to show his striking, clinch and ground game all in the same round. Round three starts off looking much better for Hall as he manages to stuff a takedown and prevent a clinch attempt from Jokinen. Hall the clinches up with Otso and actually lands one or two nice elbows while defending Jokinen’s dirty boxing. But Jokinen once again works a takedown from clinch, this time with lots of time in the round. Jokinen starts working hard to pass the guard of Hall which proves to very tricky. With about a minute left Hall lands a great sweep right into full mount which got everyone on their feet. Jokinen started working really hard and Hall could not really capitalize with any damage before the round was done. The fourth round starts off great with both guys swinging for the fences until a low kick from Hall goes a bit high, but Jokinen doesn’t need much time and the fight continues fairly quickly. Jokinen starts looking to clinch again and gets it pretty early. Both fighters started laying it all in the line in the clinch with Jokinen landing some big punches and going for takedowns. Hall tried to work his MT but he had to be cautious of the takedowns and spend a lot of time defending. With less than a minute left, Jokinen lands a huge uppercut in the clinch, right up the middle. Hall is clearly rocked and Jokinen looked to take advantage with a takedown which Hall somehow manages to shrug off. Back at a striking distance, its clear Hall doesn’t have his legs under him and Jokinen smells the blood. Jokinen quickly jumps in with a huge 3 punch combo that had Sam Hall knocked out cold before he even hit the ground. There were only 10 seconds left in the round, showing great finishing instinct from Jokinen.

Once again Otso Jokinen managed to show the world just how good he is, fighting the much larger and very experience Sam Hall and managing to finish him within the time is very impressive. This was the best Otso has looked against a welterweight and I personally wouldn’t be surprised if we see him take on some middleweights next. Anyway folks, that’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed the event and the review, this is Maxmillian Marks signing off for now.
