Mixed Martial Arts London - Presents

MMAL 17: Mo Vs. Alvarez

July 10th, 2011

Hosted by Hayashi's Lounge in London

Featuring in our Main Event:

Bali 'Ang Buto' Mo vs. Eddie 'God Fist' Alvarez in a 265+lb. Match-up!

And an action-packed undercard, including:

Dylan McQueen vs. Manu 'Poor' Ginobili (265+ lbs.)

Chris Thomas vs. Pommy Whiner (185 lbs.)

Rowell 'Jegjegmon' Mandapat vs. 'Terrible' Terrence Turnbuckle (265+ lbs.)

Olan 'Lupoy' Payat vs. Dondi 'Mighty Mouse' Daga (265+ lbs.)

Ramsey 'RG' Garcia vs. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts (265+ lbs.)

Rhaegar 'The Knight' Targaryen vs. Tobias 'The Sandman' Jacoboni (185 lbs.)

Warankh Nsembo vs. Alex Lloyd (265+ lbs.)

Jumar 'Mr. Maoy' Lumines vs. Popoy 'Poy' Bato (265+ lbs.)

'Mieke' Mega Mindy vs. Bebe 'Lupoy' Nose (265+ lbs.)

For the opening fight of the evening, we bring you an open-weight bout and introduce to you 'Mieke' Mega Mindy, a fighter making his professional debut tonight at MMAL 17. His opponent, Bebe 'Lupoy' Nose comes into the fight certainly holding more experience under his belt, but unfortunately (with a 1-4-1 record), not all of it was good! Both have some serious boxing skills, but if Mindy can take the fight to the ground, his superior wrestling and superior size (a 45lb. weight advantage) could put him in a position to win the fight.

Coming up next is another open-weight affair featuring Jumar 'Mr. Maoy' Lumines (2-5-0) vs. Popoy 'Poy' Bato (2-4-0). Nine of their thirteen combined fights have ended in decision, which may foretell the outcome of this battle, but we'll hope for a war and may be pleasantly surprised! Bato is coming of the only TKO win between the two and may want to continue the trend with another exciting stoppage!

In the third bout, it's Waranhk Nsembo (10-15-0) taking on Alex Lloyd (2-4-0) in an open-weight battle. There are many factors involved in the outcome of this fight and nearly every one leans towards Nsembo! Lloyd is at a 80lb. weight disadvantage along with the fact that his opponent has over four times the amount of fights under his belt! All of that and the fact that Nsembo is on a 5 fight winning streak with 4 of them coming by way of stoppage in the first round! If Alex Lloyd can come up with the right strategy, no fight is out of reach, as he is certainly no pushover. Can he stop Nsembo's win streak?

Fourth, we'll see the professional debut of both Rhaegar 'The Knight' Targaryan and Tobias 'The Sandman' Jacoboni when they battle at 185 lbs! There is no secret of how the fighters want this to go and they are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Targaryan's ground game has been highly touted, and he'll try and bring the fight down for sure, but Jacoboni has been even more anxiously awaited in MMA for his boxing prowess. By many accounts, if Jacoboni can get two good punches in before Targaryan's inevitable takedown it may be one more punch than is needed! We'll see Targaryan's chin tested, and if he passes that test and brings it to the mat, he could very well have the first win of his career.

Ramsey 'RG' Garcia (2-4-0) vs. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts (1-4-0) will be the fifth scheduled fight and it will be at open weight. There is no weight difference between them, both around 205lbs., but that's hardly what you'll notice. Garcia's outstretched arms would barely touch the top of Roberts head! Keep in mind, though, that Garcia has been known to go for broke often and in his first five fights scored to K.O.'s (in a total of 45 seconds), but was K.O.'d three times (in a total of 1 minute 46 seconds)! Roberts certainly holds the edge in technical striking skill and has only been knocked out once but Garcia's style is risky for both fighters! If Roberts can weather the storm and keep calm he could take his second win here at MMAL 17.

Coming up sixth is Olan 'Lupoy' Payat (3-3-1) and Dondi 'Mighty Mouse' Daga (4-4-0) in an open-weight match-up and it's another classic striker vs. grappler matches from the early days of the sport! A Goliath ground specialist vs. an elusive and accurate David! And Payat has his speed work cut out for him and will have to use it, because if Daga drags him down and gets on top, it's going to be a painful night!

Rowell 'Jegjegmon' Mandapat (4-2-0) will take on 'Terrible' Terrence Turnbuckle (3-4-0) will be the 7th fight of the night and will also be an open-weight battle. Everyone who has studied this fight agrees that Turnbuckles only hope lies on his submission skills and MUST bring this fight to the ground. Mandapat's striking is leaps and bounds above his opponent and also holds a 45lb. weight advantage but his ground game is simply non-existent. His plan is to avoid, at all costs, letting Turnbuckle (who's three wins all come by submission) get his hands on him. This fight has a high likely-hood of ending in dramatic fashion!

With our 8th fight, we bring you a 185lb. match-up between Chris Thomas (5-3-0) and Pommy Whiner (1-0-0). With Whiner's only fight ending with a submission win and Thomas's 3 losses all coming by way of tap-out, it seems to most that his route to success lay down that path. To start the process he must first get the fight to the ground, which is where his skill set suits him best. His wrestling is shown to be very strong but Thomas is no push-over in that manner. We mustn't forget, also, that they hold the same rank in jiu-jitsu and Thomas has certainly been working on his submission defense. If this is the case and the fight goes to the ground it may be the wrestling skills and the hearts of both that are tested most!

9th, we bring you Dylan McQueen (5-1-0) and Manu 'Poor' Ginobili (4-3-0) in an open-weight bout that features the biggest size difference between fighters that you may have seen in a good while! McQueen will weigh in around 300lbs. to Ginobili's 205lbs. but skill-wise the difference is slim. Well, in a way! McQueen bring some superb boxing and strong wrestling into this match while Ginobili will rely heavily on his brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu to deal with the aggression of his much larger opponent. The fact, though, that Ginobili may be bringing in cuts that are not completely healed into the fight may very well be his undoing in a long bout, so if there's a submission to be had, he'll have to seize the opportunity fast!

The main event tonight is sure to be a clinic of grappling prowess put on by both competitors. Bali 'Ang Buto' Mo (7-0-0, 6 Submissions) and Eddie 'God Fist' Alvarez (6-0-0, 6 Submissions) are both ground wizards and in 13 total fights (and all 13 wins!) between them, 12 have been 1st round submissions! Mo may very well hold a slight edge in the wrestling department and may score or defend the takedown more easily, but with a brown belt in jiu-jitsu, 'God Fist' is no stranger to fighting from his back. If there are more than 10 strikes thrown on the feet, it'll be considered a barn-burner, but will almost certainly go, quickly, to the ground. The experts are anxiously awaiting the bout to see who's strategy will come through strongest and who will receive the first negative mark on their record!

To the managers / fighters in MMAL!

I'll be writing up the hype for shows in the 2nd half of the week in upcoming weeks and I want as much flavor into them as I can to keep them interesting and accurate! To do this, you gotta help me out, because looking at stats and past fights only gives me so much to work with... So, I'm looking for some ideas from YOU, the Managers, about the feelings your fighters have about upcoming fights / past fights / or fights they aren't even involved in! Want to instill some fear into your opponent? Want to call out the champion? Have a message to the people upstairs about how you should be used? DO IT! It will only add more flavor and keep things fresh.

So PM me in game (follow the link down bottom) @ Kegaru Tetsudori with your ideas and I'll get back to you ASAP about what I'll throw in to the next hype-up!

Also, I'll throw up some general questions that would be asked in an interview and you can just pick a few from the list that you think are applicable and fill em out and send em over.

Remember, a fighter who backs up his words is one to fear, but of course, a fighter who doesn't is one to ignore.

Mixed Martial Arts London - Presents

MMAL 19: Aiming High

July 17th, 2011

Hosted By Hayashi's Lounge in London

Featuring in our Main Event:

Ryan 'Shooter' Bang vs. Cyril Salace in a 185 lb. Title Fight!

And an action-packed undercard, including:

Clive Willams vs. Maxxi Moon (265+ lbs.)

Alexis 'Bebe' Mandapat vs. Julio Marquez (265+ lbs.)

Boomer Sooner vs. Raymund 'Boy Punit!!!' Lee (170 lbs.)

Akbar 'Terrorist' Hussein vs. Franco 'Slow Hands' Mancini (205 lbs.)

Vitor 'The Spider' Silva vs. London 'Packie' Saint James (265+ lbs.)

Shady Marshall vs. Big 'Poppa' Pump (265+ lbs.)

Rj 'Taba' Paned vs. Roberto 'Jake' Sotto (265+ lbs.)

Dj 'DJ Pogi' Tiongson vs. Global Global (265+ lbs.)

Gennaro 'Punk Master' Gatusso vs. Max Alvarado (170 lbs.)

In our opening bout, for MMAL 19: Aiming High, we present a 170 lb. matchup between two up-and-comers in Mixed Martial Arts London! Brazilian Jiu-jitsu brown belt Gennaro 'Punk Master' Gatusso (2-1-0) will face Max Alvarado (1-1-0), a quality wrestler by all accounts. In the stand-up they are not terribly outmatched, but each will bring in different styles to that area, but the difference lies surely in their grappling skills. Alvarado's wrestling pedigree should allow him to control where the fight takes place and he'll have to rely on his boxing or ground and pound to win the battle. On the other side, Gatusso may have an extremely hard time bringing the fight to the ground where he can bear down on Alvarado with submissions. Of course, if he does manage to get a good hold on his opponent he should score a quick technical submission win for himself, with little resistance.

Dj 'DJ Pogi' Tiongson (2-6-0) will square up with Global Global (0-1-0) in the second bout and will fight in the Open-Weight division. Global Global will be coming into the fight at 265 lbs. and will have nearly a 100 lb. advantage in weight! His wrestling, for someone so early in their career, is top notch, and he has some decent boxing skills to back it up, but 'DJ Pogi' will try and counter with his own strengths. Tiongson's stand-up skills are far and above Globals, but on the ground he flops about like a fish on land, so he will absolutely need to keep this fight standing to have a good shot at a win. 'DJ Pogi' will need to use his advantage in experience to keep Globals hands off him while touching Global as often and hard as he can! With 95 lbs. of weight difference between these two warriors the conclusion of this bout may seem to be a foregone but remember that in MMA, Anything can happen!

In the 3rd Bout, Rj 'Taba' Paned (3-3-0) and Roberto 'Jake' Sotto (2-3-1) will throw down in the Open-Weight divisions second showing of the night. With both men weighing in around 205 lbs. and having little difference in height, this bout will surely have little to do with body types, but the difference in styles makes this fight a guessing game! Paned is simply awful on the feet, as opposed to Sotto's near mastery of the stand-up game. On the flip-side of the coin, Paned will simply be able spin around, above, and beneath Sotto at-will, on the ground, and would have little trouble finishing with the first submission he tried. They've similar records, similar size, and completely different styles, so if you're betting on this fight, you better just lay your money down, close your eyes, and point to a random fighter.

Shady Marshal (2-3-1) vs. Big 'Poppa' Pump (1-4-0) will be the fourth fight and will also be scheduled as an Open-Weight bout, as you will soon see is an absolute necessity in this case! Pump will weigh in at around 300 lbs., while Marshal will come in a bit lighter (130 lbs. or so!) and at a slight height disadvantage (Almost twenty inches!)… Do the styles matchups even matter? Yes they do! Both fighters come in with an extensive background of training in wrestling so this could very well be a game of who can take control and keep the fight where he wants, but Shady must also use his boxing to keep Pump at bay because his submission skills are not sufficient to keep his much larger (and much more skilled in Jiu-Jitsu) opponent from dominating him on the ground.

Up fifth, we'll see Vitor 'The Spider' Silva (3-4-0) vs. London 'Packie' Saint James (4-7-0) in an Open-Weight bout with a 50 lb. weight difference, with Saint James at 230 lbs. and Silva at 180 lbs. 'Packie' brings in a more-than-capable wrestling/boxing base, which he may plan to use to keep the fight standing and use his striking. Silva holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and all three of his wins have come by way of submission, so he will almost certainly try for takedowns from standing or clinch. Both of these fighters are coming off wins and would love to extend their streaks, so they will both be hungry for this fight.

Sixth, we'll see Akbar 'The Terroist' Hussein test his BJJ Brown belt in his Pro-Debut vs. Franco 'Slow Hands' Mancini (2-0-0, 2 KO's) in a 205 lb. match-up which has a high likelihood of ending by stoppage! Mancini started off his career with two exciting knock-out finishes and will be going for the hat-trick at MMAL 19, for sure! It's been heard that Hussein is purely a ground fighter, but all fights start on their feet so he'll need to weather a storm on the way!

The seventh fight will be held at 170 lbs. and will be the Pro-Debuts of both a talented wrestling prospect, Boomer Sooner, and an up-and-coming Muay Thai expert in Raymund 'Boy Punit!!!' Lee! These two both have good backgrounds in multiple styles but the submission game is not a strong point of either, so the fight will be decided on who can control where the fight takes place. Boomer has decent boxing but will not want to take too many shots from Lee's very technical stand-up before going for a strong takedown. Boomer will need to dominate on the ground and go for the finish when the opportunities present themselves, but 'Boy Punit!!!' won't go down or stay down easy, as he is no newcomer to the wrestling mat himself, and will look to do damage on the feet and in the clinch.

In the eighth bout, an Open-Weight affair, we'll see Alexis 'Bebe' Mandapat (4-3-0) vs. Julio Marquez (7-5-0) display their skills in the cage. Marquez brings a busy mix of wrestling and boxing, throwing combo's often in preparation for takedowns and ground and pound. Mandapat is going to hope to catch Marquez on their feet with his impressive boxing while keeping him at distance with kicks. If it goes down to the floor with 'Bebe' on top, it will be hard for Marquez to get back up to where he can do good damage, so he might try to do damage earlier than normal in this fight!

In the 9th bout of the evening, Clive Williams (8-7-0) will try to return to his winning ways, while his opponent Maxxi Moon will try to stay undefeated and claim his fourth career victory! Another striker vs. grappler match-up, and although neither are completely lacking in the others’ areas of expertise, neither will likely test their own weaknesses willingly. Williams will certainly be looking to put Moon on his back and keep him there and he’ll have to do it quick! Moon’s three wins were all spectacular striking finishes and none of them lasted even one minute into the first round, so there’s a good chance he’ll try and continue the trend and stop Williams as soon as the bell rings. The longer this fight lasts, the more chance Williams has to come out on top.

In the Main Event of the evening, we bring you a 185 lb. Title fight contested by two current champions! Ryan ‘Shooter’ Bang (9-2-0) currently holds the Open-Weight Title Belt and brings in a solid all-around game. His boxing and wrestling skills are certainly above par and he holds a purple belt in BJJ which he may need to use in defense of his opponents grappling attacks. Cyril Salace (6-2-0) is the 185 lb. Champion and will look to use his excellent ground game to keep the strap around his waist. He brings a brown belt in BJJ backed with some solid wrestling to get the fight where he needs it, but his stand-up skills are absolutely lacking. Salace’s chance lies purely in submission and he’ll need to draw knowledge from his past wins, all of which came by way of opponent tap-out, but Bang surely knows this and will surely be coming into the fight with some new takedown & submission defense to counter. With 12 of the 15 combined wins of these two warriors coming by way of stoppage (6 Subs for Salace, 6 K.O.'s for Bang), this fight seems to have the makings of a great main event and promises an exciting end to the night! Can Salace submit Shooter or will he go out with a Bang?

MMAL 19 promises a night of excitement and suspense, but all questions will be answered by the end! Come to Hayashi’s Lounge in London on July 17th, or you’ll be stuck hearing about it instead of telling about it!
