Im sure he is more worried about being takendown versus Maia getting out of the first round. Maia is a dangerous grappler and once he gets his hands on his opponents they tap out!

Aderbal Maia was the special guest of Psicóticos por Vale Tudo, an MMA talk show in Brazil. After few fan questions live in the broadcast, one of the viewers asked Maia's opinion about the Ryan Conner and his manager Stu MacKyntre recent declaration.

 

Aderbal Maia: Sorry, i've being busy between training, interviews and event promotion, the last declaraction of Conner that i remember, was he asking for more time to train, because was not ready to fight the Undefeated Killer.

 

João Psicotico: I've noticed you have being called Undefeated Killer recently, is that because you're undefeated and keep winning all fights in the first rounds or because you're always making undefeated guys taste the first lose?

 

Aderbal Maia: I guess its both ways, Eduardo Barros, Daeron Inglorion, Pedro Couture, and most of the others fighters i've fought, they were all undefeated before fighting against me, and the funny part about that is, Conner is also undefeated right? Well, it make me even more excited for this fight. Now, about the declaration, what he said?

 

João Psicotico: Something about you being old.

 

Aderbal Maia: Silly Conner, with the age comes the experience, i've being fighting even as kid and started my professional career with 25 years, and since then i'm fighting always its possible, even with 27 years, i still dont need 1 month of rest before taking another fight, was not me asking for rest because "my back hurt" the first time this fight was offered.

 

João Psicotico: Then you dont mind about his declarations?

 

Aderbal Maia: Let me tell you something, João. I'm gonna step up in the cage, will drop him into the ground, will slap his face off to teach him about respect and then will make him sleep, quiet and peacefull, after that i can expect some excuses like one month was not enough to fight someone like the Undefeated Killer.

They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Maia hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

I am a huge wrestling fan. We will get more promos and some interviews before he debuts. This guy is my project. So far he has had 9 weeks of training one on one with elite coaches and he will have a few more before his debut. He has passed up a lot of my fighters in skill points becasue he is a fast learner. Now I just have to hope his other hiddens are good.

As for the future, Conner went to see Gypsy Rose Lee, the infamous fortune teller of Rio and this is what she saw in her crystal ball;

 

 

 

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

 

Maia tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Conner defends well and Maia ends up having to push Conner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

 

Maia drops his hands momentarily and Conner needs no second invitation. Conner feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Maia's jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Barbarian FC 16 Preview by Conor Brazier

It was a sad goodbye for Tony as he told us that was his final preview, he is such a great writer and personality on mmatycoon, but all good things come to an end and there are now big expectations for the next writer Zlatan Brock who I'm sure will be just as great as Tony. Zlatan start's writing next week and as a result will miss the preview of Maia and Conner, which is why I'm writing this preview. There are two things to remember while I'm writing this preview. The first being this is my first ever preview on mmatycoon and the second thing to consider is.. I'm no Tony! So with all things considered lets go to the first fight.



Uno Torres vs George Millie



Both of these fighters are making their BFC debuts after both of them got finishes of their own fashion in their MMA debut. Torres is a brown belt and BJJ and the ground is his home, wife and dinner in MMA with his only win coming in by submission. Millie is a striker being respectable at both boxing and Muay Thai. In Millie's first fight he used the clinch a lot and ended the fight with a head kick and vicious striking, he will look to use the same strategy against Torres, however he has to be wary that if Torres gets the takedown, he is going to be tapped out quickly. I can definitely see both fightings winning with good gameplanning but Torress is gonna get an early takedown and get his first win in the BFC with a slick submission.



Adam Kraft vs Noob Saibot

This matchup is very interesting as a BFC newcomer Kraft, will be coming against a BFC veteran in Saibot. Kraft is a very well rounded and young fighter with a brown belt in BJJ with one submission victory. Saibot looks to be a very good striker but has really lacked that finishing ability with his four wins coming by decision and even has one loss via KO. Saibot has to get a finish against Kraft otherwise Kraft will get the takedown and use his BJJ skills to tap Saibot. I think the first round Saibot will get off with his striking and land on Kraft but lack the finish and I see Kraft taking it on the chin and getting the takedown and subsequently the finish in round 2 via submission.



Frankie Hoggets vs Damian Kazimierczak

Hoggets and Kazimierczak are both brown belts in BJJ and would ideally like to make this a ground fight.. If it was any other opponent. Hoggets is younger but has a lot more experience and has the striking edge over Kazimierczak. Kazimierczak is older and less experience but has the slighest advantage in his wrestling so he will be looking to make this into a straight up grappling contest where as Hoggets may want to use some of his advantages in striking. The only thing longer than Kazimierczak's name is the night he is in for, both fighters will neutralize eachother on the mat and Hoggets has the experience and striking advantage needed to earn himself the unaminous decision.



Spanish Rice vs Paulo Sanchez

Rice is a good wrestler with good striking and big power in his hands, his only loss is to A Congo which is no real embarassment because he is one of the top fighters in the division. Rice has three victories all by T/KO. He will look to use his powerful punches and takedown defence to keep this fight standing and to get another TKO, but will Sanchez allow him to do that? Sanchez has a purple belt in BJJ and good wrestling (not as good as Rice's) and will be looking to get his third victory by submission by takedown and tap. If he gets this fight to the floor I have no doubt he will get the victory but I can't see him taking Rice down, Rice stuffs all of Sanchez's takedowns and walks away with a 1st round KO.



Machida vs Jones

This is going to be the typical striker vs grappler contest, maybe even a taste of whats to come with Maia vs Conner. Machida is the grappler with good wrestling and a brown belt. Jones is the striker with good boxing and good wrestling. Jones will want to keep this fight on the feet and knock out Machida. Machida will want to get this fight to the ground and tap Jones out. This fight doesn't leave the first round. Every fight starts on its feet which advantages Jones as Machida isn't going to take him down and the only time he will go down is because he's knocked out. Jones first round KO victory.



Inglorion vs Carneiro

Both these fighters are brown belts in BJJ. Inglorion has the wrestling advantage over Carneiro and Carneiro has the muay thai advantage over Inglorion. A fun fact is that Carneiro shares his last name with Chelsea football clubs hot female physio Eva Carneiro, however she's into football (soccer) and not MMA so she won't be there to fix Carneiro's arm. Inglorion walks away with a ... Second round submission, Carneiro might just make it out the first.



Mcgregor vs Eluard



Mcgregor is a wrecking machine with only one loss to the Barbarian fight clubs 185 pound tournament finalist DJ Paul. He has excellent wrestling, good boxing, a granite chin and even a blue belt in BJJ to help him wreck other fighters. However Eluard is his kryptonite, he has the better boxing than Mcgregor which means Mcgregors game plan is going to be to takedown Eluard... but oh wait news just in! Eluard is a brown belt in BJJ to make things even harder for Mcgregor! Mcgregors granite chin holds up just enough for him to get the foolish takedown and get submitted in the second round. Eluard looks to be a big prospect in the middleweight division, keep an eye on him.



Imperiex Prime vs Ricson Gracie

Both these fighters are experienced, they have 20 fights between them! Prime is a heavy handed machine with all his wins coming by TKO, he also has very impressive wrestling to match his boxing. But don't be fooled by the name Gracie or his brown belt in BJJ, this guy has all his wins by TKO too. Usually when a Gracie takes you down you're gonna fear the tap, but not here, if Gracie gets the takedown Prime has to fear his senses! But luckily for him he has the wrestling ability to stop the takedown. The only thing cooler than Imperiex Primes name is the knockout he will get again Gracie as he uses his heavy hands and keeps this fight on the feet.

Both these guys are outstanding wrestlers with purple belts in BJJ, this is going to be an exciting grappling match! Nikolopoulos is an undefeated fighter with all but one of his wins coming by first round submission. Chua has the slightest wrestling advantage over Nikolopoulos which is what he's going to need as Nikolopoulos is so small with his tiny limbs, he's not going to be tapped out. I think Chua grinds the decision on this one.

If you're not excited for this fight, I'm sending both these guys to your house, one will choke you out and the other will knock out your choked out corpse, okay that's physically impossible but these guys are BEASTS and this is going to be an amazing fight. Both these guys are undefeated with a combined record of 17 wins and zero losses. Maia is currently the BFC light heavyweight champion and is known as the 'undefeated killer' as he has killed plenty of undefeated fighters, literally killed, the insurance for BFC has shot up after this guy is around. I'm joking, he doesn't kill them but he might as well he is that good. He has a brown belt in BJJ and excellent wrestling, he's proven his submission skills by all his wins coming by submission and even tapping out black belt Abraham Kurse. Maia is going to want to take this fight down down down to the ground and get that first round tap out, which will happen if he gets the fight to the ground. No doubt. Conner is an undefeated KO machine with all his wins coming by T/KO. Maia doesn't want to be on the feet with Conner and Conner doesn't want to be on the ground with Maia. Conner has a 30 second period of time to avoid his takedowns and knock Maia out or Maia will get that takedown and that first round submission. Usually I pick the striker as all fights start on the feet and thats their advantage but Maia is just a different kind of fighter, he will get the tap out and make Conner feel very silly for all the trash he has been talking which can be found on the Barbarian smack talk thread. Well worth a read.

That's all I hope you enjoyed my first and probably last ever preview, this took me a day to do literally because of various technical difficulties but I had a blast and I cannot wait for this event!
