"Nasty" Nate Lamb (242955) - Gameplans Suck

So I am now 2 fights into my career here at Impact and if I have learned one thing, since my step up, it is this. Gameplans suck!

Take my first fight here, against Gusserrano Cabrera. I studied the guy, saw we matched up pretty well, had confidence in my abilities and said fine. I'll match my blue belt against yours and we will see what happens. As you know, that didn't go so well, we went to the ground, I thought I had him a couple of times but in the end I got caught in that sodding Kimura. Well, there goes my undefeated record. Back to the drawing board.

And so, I get myself another fight booked, this time against Boniface Boccasio, another BJJ blue belt, and a quite decent wrestler, now, I have grown through my loss, it has made me a better fighter and a better person, and I decide, instead of playing to my strengths, to play to my opponents weaknesses. Whilst Boniface had done good Jits, he was pretty awful in the standup. I myself am a pretty good kickboxer, seems straight forward, light him up on the feet, take home the win. Erm, no. I still end up on the ground, the guy even f*cking sweeps me into mount, nod I have no choice but to take his arm away from him.

So going forward the plan is this. Screw plans, they suck. Whoever is put in front of me next, and I have no idea who that is yet, know this. I am gonna walk into the middle of that cage, punch you in the face, and see what happens next. Should be a hell of a ride.

Peace out, love to coaches, sponsors etc.

"Haha maybe you should actually finish an opponent before you ask for a title shot. People don't buy tickets to watch a boring Ass fight." Texas Outlaw

wrestling insider magazine : How do you feel about your win against Tyrion Lannister after most had written you off claiming that difference in jiu jitsu would be your downfall

Jeffrey Hughes : he might be a 7th degree monkey belt in pyjama fighting but i know how to wrestle and that's what was going to win the fight even though i am disappointed for not being able to finish him

wrestling insider magazine : why are you disappointed in a victory over a highly ranked foe?

Jeffrey Hughes : well I regret not using my greco roman wrestling skill in the clinch because i'm sure i would have finished him within 2 rounds in the clinch and also i'm still ranked really low, I just beat the number 2 guy in the division and i'm still 15th out of 25 while guys like Texas Outlaw are above me for no reason, I'm being overlooked as a player in this division whilst i've wrecked guys like they've never been wrecked before.

wrestling insider : what do you plan on doing now?

Jeffrey Hughes : i'm going to take a break and continue training and when i'm back i would like a fight against Pale Monster as he looks really weak for a champion and his wrestling does not impress me

The reason you are ranked so low is because of your hype, you've been calling for a title shot every time you win and this doesn't help your hype.

You haven't been overlooked, I have been happy until now to offer the fights to the guys you have been calling out that are way above your rank, I don't think that is being overlooked.

You've got good ambitions but you won't be getting a title fight whilst you are ranked ~11k p4p and the potential champions are 4k p4p, you have to work your way up and earn it. You're heading in the right direction, just keep working hard and if your fighter wins enough and you climb the ranks you will get your title shot but you can't just expect to call out the champ and get your fight, sorry.

Impact Battle of the Belts 1 & 2 mini review

The Battle of the Belts was a mini tournament to sort out which two fighters would enter the cage and fight for the Title.

In the first event, in the 155lbs class we saw Pale Monster go up against Tabarik Maisumov. Monster was dominant in the first round and was controlling a lot of the action from the ground in rounds 2 and 3. He was desperately trying to get a submission but Maisumov was able to defend well and showed some great skill by managing to escape on one occasion. He also made a couple of strange decisions, he managed to get in to the mount in round 3 but then immediately stood up, some decent ground and pound might have ended the fight very differently. Monster did enough for the judges to give him the win and he keeps his 5 fight win streak.

Monster goes through and will fight in the Title fight.

In the other 155lbs fight, we saw Ross Peerson enter the cage with Ryan Kyznetsov. Peerson seemed to be the more aggressive fighter and managed to score a lot more takedowns, he tried to get a takedown and succeeded with 7 attempts, Kyznetsov tried 22 times but Peerson defense meant that Kyznetsov was only able to takedown Peerson once. Peerson also threw a lot more punches and that was enough for the judges.

Peerson goes through to the title fight.

In the first of the 170lbs fights, Santa Claus met Sam Jhonson. This was yet another fight that went the distance, Jhonson seemed to be more capable of scoring the takedowns, whether or not it was part of Claus' plan to let that happen or not I'm not sure but Claus definitely went into overdrive once on the floor trying for lots of submissions but unfortunately not being able to get a tight enough grip. Claus scored less takedowns but due to his high levels of work on the ground, he did enough to take the win.

Claus advances to the next round and will fight for the title.

In the second of our 170lbs fights, we saw Shapovolov Sokoloff put on a demonstration of his bjj skils. He managed to take down Francois Leon and after a short amount of grapplling, he managed to make Leon tap out with a perfectly executed Kimura.

Sokoloff is through to the next round and will be fighting for the title.

In the 205lbs fights, first up was James Irvin vs Jimmy Sheppard. Irvin took the fight to the clinch and was successful with his dangerous knees, a very brave attempt by Sheppard and it just shows how tough he is to stand up to those knees and not get knocked out.

Irvin progresses through to the final round.

In the other 205lbs fight, Merari Bakannustus fought Dave Dance. it was another close match that went all the way to the judges decision. Dance scored an impressive amount of takedowns but it seems te judges thought Bakannustus deserved the win as he tried harder once on the floor with submissions. Dance did manage to get some ground and pound through his defences but not enough to finish the fight.

Bakannustus advances and is through to the title fight.

In the first of the 265+lbs bouts, Mark McCain fought Tom Jones. Jones tried a risky move early on and tried to beat McCain at his own game, he took McCain to the ground even tho, on paper at least, McCain is the better wrestler. He held his own for a while but was unable to get anything significant. Once the fight was stood up, McCain took the initiative and tackled Jones to the floor. Jones tried to escape and gave up his back, McCain grabbed the opportunity and applied a rear naked choke.

McCain is through to the next round.

In the last of our competition bouts in the 265+lbs weight class, the vocal Mike Goon went up against Maximillian Xerzeron. Both fighters have had a lot of success so far but their styles in which they did it couldn't be more different. Goon with raw KO power and a smack talking mouth, Xerzeron, calmy and quietly going about his business to prove he's the best in the division with lethal kicks. Goon had taken a battering from his last fight and may have not fully recovered, and it wasn't long before the dangerous kicks of Xerzeron were hitting their target and opening up Goon's face again. After a couple more head kicks broke through his defences, Goon hit the canvas and Xerzeron pounced and finished the fight with a Kimura.

Xerzeron is through to the final round.

And that wraps up the mini tournament for the title fights. The event for the title's has been booked and will take place on the 19th April.

155lbs Pale Monster v Ross Peerson

170lbs Santa Claus v Shapovolov Sokoloff

205lbs James Irvin v Merari Bakannustus

265+lbs Mark McCain v Maximillian Xezeron

A full preview of the fights will be published, with a the list of Title fight bonuses nearer to the event.

" yea it was a decision against a granite chin in which I steamrolled his Ass. I'm sry you're a pillow fighter, not my fault you put on boring Ass fights. Here's an idea stop declining fights and you might get ranked high enough to face some real fighters". TO

Jeffrey Hughes : i only declined that fight so i could get you but apparently you had some other fighters, if by boring you mean excellent displays of technical wrestling i will take that as a compliment, you're just another brawler who can somewhat wrestler but trust me if we ever face each other you will end up on your back quicker than a pornstar with a mortgage to pay

Jeffrey Hughes : i want an easy fight that's meaningful and since you have a bit of hype it would have been an interesting one but some other no name brawler would be just a waste of training also, the guys i've beaten would smash you anyway, ask Tyrion if i'm pillow handed that guy is the former no2 in the division and was pretty much the top contender and i wrecked him, try knocking me out from your back

Sorry, you're not going to get any 'easy' fights at Impact, all I can offer are fair fights.

I Like that you guys are active on the smack talk but please keep it light or within character of your fighter. I don't want it to start getting to be personal or abusive. Thank you.

Was training with the former #1 Bruce Lee in CT Antiga União, Stu liked it and said that i can have a great future in here. Now i'm a Impact fighter and the middle weight will never be the same.

i don't think Goon and i are being personal, i'm taking this for what it is,it's just a bit of aggressive fun that no one is really bothered my character is very chael sonnen-ish, and the manager is a bit like matt lindland, it's a persona nothing more nothing less

Yoko Ono : Goon, my fighters push the pace relentlessly and force the other fighters to fight defensively and i'm sure Sammy Dubois will taste Joseph Yakowitz's power,

Impact has been lucky enough to be able to host an exhibition fight between Terrance Clam Digger and Jupiter Jones.

Terrance "Jackson" Clam Digger was generous enough to take some time out from his training and speak to Impact's very own reporter, Josh Rogan.

Terrance Clam Digger

Hi this is Josh Rogan and today I'll be trying to get an insight into the mind of one of the top fighters from Sisu Fights, Terrence "Jackson" Clam Digger.

Rogan: Terrence "Jackson" Clam Digger is ranked 260th in the world, Jupiter Jones is ranked at nearly 3000th, how did this fight come about and what were your reasons for agreeing to fight him?

Clam Digger: It's a bit of a funny story, actually. I was in bed Ronda Rousey, practicing zhu-zhitsu when my phone rang and I saw it was my manager, Ilya B. calling. I really didn’t want to give up that North-South position, but I figured it might be related to that new contract I just signed with Sisu Fights few days prior. So, I got on the phone and he tells me that he got into a dick-measuring contest with another manager who wants his top fighter tested, and since all of his top fighters had fights pending, by default I was his selection. That didn't make me feel very appreciated, and I wanted to tell him off, but Nick Diaz, who was also with us (he was playing PS4 and smoking ganja) must have had an effect on my decision, as he glared at me while passing the bong, and said those famous words: "Don't be scared, homie". The rest is kinda hazy, but I am still putting bits and pieces together, and figuring out why my manager would agree to something like this.

Rogan: I hopefully get chance to ask Jupiter Jones this question too but I'd be interested to hear your comments on it. After agreeing to fight Jones, you could probably have fought in pretty much any of the bigger orgs and gained a lot of publicity for your fighter but instead you've chosen to fight in a relatively new, small org. Could you tell us your reasons for that please?

Clam Digger: My manager didn't tell me it would be in a small arena, I was told we'd be co-main eventing Jones-Texeira. Well, whatever, I really don't care, I'm getting fed up with this Don King-like treatment. I dunno, this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I'm going to try and make the best of it--try to put my emotions into training hard and coming in focused.

Rogan: Jupiter Jones is the clear underdog, is this purely an exhibition fight or do you think he might actually have a chance of winning?

Clam Digger: I have to make sure I am fighting who Mr. Berler said I would be fighting-- I was told that the guy was a beast that can't be finished and that I shouldn’t get too comfortable. He did mention that the guy is ranked significantly lower, and I don't know if he used this as motivation, or what, but he said that if I lose, I'll become the laughing stock of MMA world and possibly get released. I'm telling you, this guy must think he is a genius, playing these f------- head games with me, but I'm over that s---. To answer your question--yes, he has a chance, every dog has its day.

Rogan: Jones is reported to have a granite chin and as such has never been knocked out, are you going to be the first man to do it?

Clam Digger: As far as trying to be the first guy to KO Jones--I'd love to, but my game plan going into this fight is multifaceted. I will throw everything but the kitchen sink at the guy, and if the opportunity presents to smoke him--you better believe I will take it.

Rogan: You were currently under contract with Sisu Fights but they kindly released you for one fight so you could fight Jones, are you worried about your reputation if you lose when you go back to Sisu Fights as you were the highest ranking Bantamweight in the org before you left?

Clam Digger: Sisu fights owner was very kind in letting me fight outside if his org, and his parting words were similar to my managers--something along the lines of looking for employment elsewhere if I end up with anything less than a spectacular finish. So, you see, it is in my best interest to dig myself out of this hole that Mr. Berler kindly decided to throw me into.

Well that’s all the questions Clam Digger had time for, he jumped into a cab and was muttering something about zhu-zhitsu and round 2, whatever that means.

Stay tuned for more interviews, hopefully Jupiter Jones will find time for us soon.

I'm usually a soft spoken person and I let my fighting do the talking but can somebody please put an end the talk of Jeffery Hughes. Its one thing to talk smack and I do find it entertaining but in order to talk smack you need to have the skills to back it up. Having only decision wins isn't impressive. I wish I could drop a weight class to give you a real match but I have an upcoming title shot. I would love to see the loser of Pale Monster and Ross Peerson fight Jeffery Hughes to see if he really is one of the best in the division because a title shot at this point would be absurd. I have no animosity towards Hughes, I simply want him to prove himself worthy of a step up in competition. Also good luck to Santa Claus in our upcoming fight, it will be an honor to fight you for the belt.

Title shot? Based on what merits? The guy is buried in the rankings, has a modest 3-fight win streak, and doesnt seem to bring much excitement in the cage. Gotta keep plugging away...make it to top 5 and then start making claims and call outs, otherwise it just seems corny. Sorry, dont mean to rain on your parade.
