The Hypocrisy of Custom Avatar Rejection

Lockdown

Recommended Posts

Since people are paying to have a custom avatar I think the visual restrictions should be heavily lifted. The forums are boring lately and I figured I would highlight some of the bullshit that goes on in the world of custom avatars.

First of all let's post the criteria

http://www.mmatycoon.info/index.php?title=Custom_Avatars

Examples of rejected designs

  1. Don't make it look too real. If you could squint and think "maybe that's a real face", it's too real.
  2. Don't make it like a superhero. Remember, this is an MMA game not a fantasy game. No glowing eyes or fly armour suits.
  3. Don't use avatars from other MMA games. I wouldn't want someone using the avatars I had designed on here on another game, so let's not do that ot other people.
  4. Please keep the fighter as the sole (or very prominent) focus of the avatar. Also, I'd prefer no border.
  5. Make sure you use an avatar from the game as a base.
  6. Too cartoony and not enough use of an existing avatar.
  7. Keep it looking realistic - don't just draw something on in paint.
  8. Not good enough quality image cropping (jagged edges need the use of anti-alias). Also not enough focus on fighter

This avatar just got denied by Mike. I understand it violates #2 due to the ears but I look at other peoples avatars and have some serious raised eyebrows. Let the case study begin

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14058197148266.jpg

And here are some examples of avatars Mike has deemed acceptable and has somehow passed his criteria

Just some picture of a shirtless guy smoking. 0 attempt at even blending a face. A clear violation of #1

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14011338064055.png

Assassins creed logo. Can barely see the blended face. Violated #3 because you can literally see the logo. No attempt to cover it up. It's like another game using an imagine from MMATycoon, with the logo with no attempt to cover it up. Exactly what Mike is talking about in #3

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14059467937416.jpg

Wow. Horrible. Not only does it show Stallone and Mr. T front and center but it's a great example of one of the avatar's he denied on the wiki. A god awful violation of #8

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14045236321951.jpg

Drawn on eyebrows in Paint. An exact example on bottom of wiki except with mustache. Violation of #7

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14000914904245.jpg

Hilarious violation of #2. It's a well made avatar but you can't violate a superman rule more than this one does. Straight out of X-Men or whatever

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13954986689484.png

Buzz Lightyear flying through space. Uhhhh. Ok. Pretty sure buzz light year is fantasy lol

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13951749376574.gif

Jesus. More Violations of #7

Might post more out of pure hilarity

Here is the original of the guy with 0 attempt to blend a face. I blended a tycoon face, including changing the geometry of the head and body,it's not just an unedited photo. You can see the tycoon face.

Almost all my created avatar were in almost real style. But you can see the tycoon part in all of them. I'm glad there is some flexibility on the rule enforcement. I'd have been out of bussines pretty quick.

Fuck that, I don't like pointy ears and all of that shit, but I love custom avatars, you're just restricting our liberty to have fun by attempting to ruin them. Fuck making them look like MMA fighters, they all look like men with bodys (remember when some people wanted to get rid of the MMA tycoon home image because it looked like gay porno?) Allow people to have some fucking fun, if anything diminish the restrictions.

It's been a great addition to the game and you posting these threads will ruin it for the people who enjoy it.

Stop complaining and start talking about development.

Stop complaining in general Lockdown, evidently that's all you do.

Whine like a little girl.

I love custom avatars and think it was a great addition. I actually don't have a problem with any of the avatars that lock down linked. Only the first one with the pointy ears and any others along that line (basically the ones that don't look human).

I guess Mike did reject that one so that's a good thing :)

Lockdown has some good points on some, but not on others.

Definitely no to the non-human with pointy ears. Fighters need to be humans.

The Assassin's Creed one is borderline. Remove the logo and I would be fine with it. Logo needs to be gone, though.

The Mr T one and the paint ones are too low quality.

I have no problem with the Buzz Lightyear one. The face was changed a lot, and Buzz is a human with no superpowers.

The Fantastic Four one is clearly a violation of the superhero rule and needs to be gone.

I disagree with Davy that they need to look like MMA fighters. If they want to wear other clothes, that is fine by me. However, I am with him in spirit. We have to end the fantasy bullshit right now. Anything remotely non-human or with super powers needs to be stopped.

As for the one that TheMould said is too realistic: I have no problem with it. It has Tycoon eyes, a Tycoon nose, and a Tycoon mouth. That is pretty much straight out of Igor's avatar guide on Youtube that got such a positive response.

There is a point where one person's fun infringes on someone else's fun. As Davy said, making your fighters look like superheros and fairies ruins the game immersion and destroys the concept of these being MMA orgs.

How does someone elses avatar infringe someone elses fun? Are people really so offended by an avatar?

If anything it makes it fun for people doing it, if you don't want to be apart of it then don't make them yourself.

No one is literally crying or going crazy because they see an avatar they're indifferent to. If they are then they have some real personal problems they have to deal with.

Keep the eyes mouth ears, add shoulders, neck, check.

first of all I didn't know about the logo, would made it anyway from writting. Second the picture is all blended, how can you say that the picture is not blended if you don't have the real picture ?

All my avatars look like the originals, but they have templates faces that I tweek a lot to make them look almost real. I put a lot of work in my avatars and don't appreciate saying that is not blend if you don't see the real picture first!

Ps. willing to remove the logo (again didn't know) but don't have any free avatar at the moment, and till I get my licence and get working don't have a real job so I can spend the days just to upload a new photo.

I know myself personally I do like to immerse myself into the game and I'm playing it exactly like it was meant to be played in my opinion. Sure it's a game yes and meant to be fun but its also meant to be a simulation of real life MMA. It's not about being offended If I'm fighting someone named Lik Alotadik (sorry manager of Lik Alotadik, nothing personal its the first name I thought of) or someone with a fairy tale looking avatar I'm sorry but yes it does affect my enjoyment of the game somewhat. It's not even that I'm taking it too serious, I actually cant think of a better word for it than what I've already been saying, immersion... Even though its a game I like it to feel like a real simulation as much as it can. I know that's not possible and I'll continue to play no matter what. I love the game and have always accepted the way most others choose to play but I think there should definitely be lines that shouldn't be crossed. There's always gotta be the trolls that do though.

Like I said, I don't even really have a problem with most of the avatars or even most names that people pick. I think its great guys have a little fun and give their fighters some personality and character. Its the ones that are way off in left field that can be annoying and even game damaging a little (at least in my eyes). I feel like I'm coming off way too serious about this haha but really if nothing changes, I really don't care. It's not really that bad and Mike's already doing a decent job filtering out the really bad avatars anyways.

I think it would be better if the avatar artists moderate the avatars themselves or try to make them more on the tycoon looking side rather than a real life looking one. i saw some that don't even resemble tycoon avatars anymore.

EDIT:

Im not saying we should be making the decisions. Just tell your clients that would look ridiculous and really un-mmatycoon like.

Well said, Davy. It is an MMA simulation. It affects my enjoyment of the game when I find out that my next opponent is some sort of fairy nymph from a magical land. There are plenty of superhero and fantasy games out there to play if that is what you are into. However, this one is MMA. Nobody is insisting that your fighter must be wearing shorts and MMA gloves in his photo. You can have some fun and creativity with it, but at least make it a normal human being.

Personally I dont care if the avatar is some superhero or fantasy character as long as the avatar is (very) well made. ...and I got to say not many are. There is wayyyy too many choppy avatars with blown out proportions not to mention the paint stuff lol.

Not a huge fan of the "cut the eyes and mouth from a cartoonized avatar and slap them on to IRL picture" -either. Those always looks weird to me. Would love to see more people using the base avatars and craft new avatars from there.
