custom avatars -- do's and don'ts

PBR

Recommended Posts

have seen a few threads from people wondering why their custom avatar was declined and have seen many new companies / managers making skins and avatars -- not sure if most know but skins / avatars are suppose to be based off in game avatars (faces)

Remember, custom avatars must be based on existing in-game avatars. Alternatively you can find this page by clicking one of your own fighter avatars from their profile page.

quote from mike on custom avatars -- not sure if mike sends messages with every denied avatar but this could be one of the issues

yea i was looking through them after posted this thread -- im on the other side of the fence though i think they should all be removed if not based on in game face / avatars -- i mean honestly without changing those things up there is no work put into it -- others might disagree saying well this is real world work for fake game money -- but i know use to be a lot of pride in them back in the day -- matching skin tones and shadows making them look cool and good as possible -- just seems that has been thrown out the window with just using images on internet search or actual picture with only change to look cartoonish or painted, that isnt any work

just try to explain what i mean take this one http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14070754705982.jpg at least it has hair added like some of the avatars in game compared to http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14066556874840.jpg that has nothing added to change up face or anything

like these http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14055033126861.jpghttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14042280225710.jpghttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13954986689484.pnghttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13854904458388.gifhttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13766992283439.jpghttp://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/1349628629KirkLazarus.jpg they are awesome and totally based on in game avatars

Some of these were double submitted. He accepted them the 1st time then when he saw it was submitted twice declined the 2nd one. I see your point on some of these. The 1st one only added eyes and nothing else. The second one is just eyes and a nose. The last one I can't actually tell what they did. It looks like eyes and a nose, but they are exactly the same as the ones on the original image. I will say you are incorrect to say this one is not based on an avatar.

Unlike in the other ones, I did not cut out individual parts and stick them on. I cut out the entire face beard and all then slapped it on as a single piece. Everything on that face is avatar except the upper most edge over the forehead, outer glow on the left cheek, and glow on the bridge of the nose. I used liquify to shape some parts like the nose to appear more of a side angle. I smudged the pupil over on the right eye to be looking more left. I also used liquify to shorten the left eye to look more like it was on the far side of the face, and I absolutely had to do color matching to make it all not stand out. You can see mine is a little more reddish, because I was losing too much details when I tried to copy to more blueish tint of the original image. The original image has a low beard that only covered the jawline, but I completely covered it up with the avatar beard. It did not reach all the way to the left cheek, so I copied a tiny patch with the stamp tool to fill the gap. I am glad you could not tell. That is the point. But, if you compare it with the original image it is absolutely not the same face.

To be 100% honest the criteria is not adhered to at all and at this point it just seems to be on a whimsy which are and aren't accepted (with the exception to ones that are just terrible).

The Jax Teller one up there is mine and uses the nose, eyes, and mouth of an avatar blended onto the face. A practice which I engaged in since when I look at accepted avatars they are generally built like that.

It was rejected for being too real, which would make sense if it didn't have hamster eyes...

Madness yours in the above post is excellent and would imo follow the rules as well as any other avatar I've seen approved.

Not complaining just suggesting that perhaps people would follow the criteria if it was enforced or more specific because right now avatars that seem to violate the criteria are regularly accepted.

Here is another of mine that was accepted as a prime example of my point:
