Brian Osgood: Good evening listeners. It's 8 o'clock and this is Fight Radio. I'm your host, Brian Osgood. Now then, I'm joined by Sonny Lockwood to discuss an event that's taking place in L.A., the Twisted tournament. We are expecting "Good Maulin'" Andy Good along shortly to add his thoughts too. I'll tell you what, while we wait, I'll say a little about this tourny for listeners who may not have heard anything about it. MMA supremo Mike Tycoon has sanctioned this experimental draft tourny and it sure is unusual. Eight of MMA's top fighting stables have signed up and each provided a fighter. Mike Tycoon oversaw a draft selection and now each fighter has been switched to a new stable, before they battle it out at +Thirty2. I think the aim here is to share around some of the training wisdom between the managers, gyms and coaches. What do you think of this idea Sonny? Good for the sport?

Sonny Lockwood: Hi Brian, firstly I just want to say a massive thank you to Randle McMurphy, Mike Tycoon and Tycoon Enterprises for putting on this event. It's one of the more unique tournaments we will see this year, and probably in the world of MMA altogether. To say I like this idea is an understatement. I absolutely love the idea of sharing knowledge between managers, and it's a definite must if this sport is to continue to progress. Right now, we are one of the most watched and anticipated sports on the planet. For this rise to continue and for Mixed Martial Arts to really take a firm grip as the most exciting and watched sport in the world, the Twisted Tournament is necessary. Obviously there wont be managers helping one another with their game-plans and tactics moving forward after the draft, but to have the fighters change camps means there will be an indirect sharing of knowledge, especially when looking at the competing rookie's initial training methods, skills and abilities before the change over. Brian, I'm excited for this and I really can't see how this isn't good for the sport. It's going to be a great tournament, and I can't wait to see the fighters in action under their new management.

Brian: Let's take a look at some of the fighters involved. First we have.. Ah, here he is, Andy has arrived. Welcome Andy.

Good Maulin' Andy Good: Hi, can I get a drink?

Brian: Ok, we'll get that seen to. Andy, we are about to take a look at all the fighters in this tourny. First up is Zhang Xiali.

Andy: Yea, I've seen him. He looks gay.

Brian: Really...

Andy: Let me clarifinate that, I have nothing against fags. Oh, you can't even say that now. Just saying. He is gay right?

Brian: Well, erm. Well, how do you see his chances Sonny?

Sonny: If by gay you mean he's a wrestler, I do agree Andy. His strongest area is his grappling but let's not overlook his Muay Thai striking. In his first fight his elbows were unleashed, eighteen from ninety-two, and it caused a TKO cut stoppage and in his last fight his legs were on show which knocked down, winded then knocked out his undefeated opponent. So although his grappling is a big part of his skillset, his Muay Thai striking and willingness to brawl will be his greatest weapons in this tournament.

Andy: I agree with the nerd. He can kick like a mule, or at least like one of those little ponies he probably collects, but I think he will struggle. The other fighters are more skilled.

Sonny: He's definitely out matched in areas, but I think he'll still be tough competition. People tend to underestimate a well timed head kick and I think Muay Thai striking is deadly and entertaining. I'd prefer to watch a Muay Thai striker over a pure grappler any day of the week.

Brian: Next up then, it's the Austrian-born German national Jurgen Hartmann who has landed with the Vendarra stable. What's he going to bring to the party?

Andy: Beer and sausages?

Sonny: Well Brian, Hartmann is a very intelligent Muay Thai fighter. I remember seeing him in his last fight, and although his opponent had a single minded approach, Jurgen was the smarter fighter which enabled him to get the win. He used a variety of striking to get him the judges nod, and he showed a glimmer of his ability to do what was needed against a much stronger opponent.

Andy: What the hell is this? Coffee?

Sonny: Jurgen also has a mixture of boxing, grappling and BJJ skills to bring to the table, but his ability to outsmart and out strike his opponent will be his greatest assets.

Andy: Vendarra's a good coach. When I was fighting we all respected him. Venderra and his people will come up with a plan. It just needs some balls from Hartmann to carry it out. I said a drink!.. D.. R... I... N, erm, C... H..., No, K.... C, K. D.R.I.N.C.K, got it?

Brian: Get him a drink for Pete's sake.

Sonny: I say give the kid some rope and see what he can do with it. A great coach is one thing, but a smart young fighter is another. Together, they could be a lethal combination.

Andy: I remember my first manager was very smart, philosophic and all. He used to say, it was something like, "You can't punch a gift horse in the mouth to make him drink". Think about it. It's pretty deep. Some old Indian wisdom shit. I always meant to ask him what a gift-horse is, but he took that secret to the grave.

Brian: Sonny, Scooby Ali will be represented by Hugo Boss. What do you make of him?

Sonny: Hugo Boss hasn't yet been tested in his pro MMA career, so some may see that as a weakness as we never really know a fighter's character until he steps into the cage or ring and really tests his mantle. Having said that though, Boss is one of the strongest fighters competing in the Twisted Tournament given his abilities. He'll be able to take the fight wherever he demands it given his grappling skill. Boss' boxing is also good enough to be a real threat to anyone he faces. I wouldn't exactly say he's the favourite yet, but let's just say he's one of the one's to watch and his first fight will be highly anticipated.

Andy: It's not just his mantle that will be tested, but every other bone in his chin too.

Sonny: You're right, and let's not forget his confidence. Some kids don't stack up well when they actually get themselves in the cage and are in a real fight. His chin is just one thing that will be tested, amongst others.

Brian: I've been looking forward to hearing what you have to say about our next fighter, Ivan Russian Mammoth. He looks like a contender?

Andy: Definately.

Sonny: I would put Mammoth in the same ballpark as Boss given his grappling skill, yet his go to is of course his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A brown belt coupled with some of the best grappling this competition has to offer puts Mammoth as a definite contender, Brian, at surface level anyway. He's another fighter yet to test himself, so of course there are still questions to be answered, like how technical is his ground game exactly? Meaning, is he skilled enough in submissions to really be the contender he looks at first glance? And of course, how will his personality stack up when he steps into the cage?

Andy: He's the best grappler in the tournament and I don't think he will have a lack of confidence. Anyone who wears a moustache like that has got to be pretty confidential.

Sonny: Moustache and all, it's another first fight I'm really excited to see. At this point in proceedings, he's one of my top 3.

Andy: Me too. That's better, thanks. Cheers!

Sonny: No beer for the nerd?

Andy: Sorry man, I thought it was all for me. I can pour some back?

Sonny: Nevermind.

Brian: Next we have Richard Cranium. That name's a case of nominative determinism if I ever heard one!

Andy: I'm not sure how determined he is, but that sure is a funny name.

Sonny: It's too bad head-butting is against the rules, or I'd have to agree with you. Richard Cranium is an intriguing case, and not exactly when talking about his fighting ability. I looked a little into his background and he threw himself into fighting so he didn't have to do gay porn. That alone makes him a feature for Twisted Tournament, in my opinion, and my choice for the dark horse. Extreme ambition aside, as an actual fighter he does look good at first look. Cranium is one to watch, and for the sake of his long-term career I hope he does well.

Andy: Sonny, you can be a bit slow sometimes man. Cranium is fancy for face. Richard is fancy for Dick, so what we have here is a Di.....

Brian: We got it, enough!

Andy: just saying. No wonder the boy can fight with a name like that!

Brian: He has good striking but is his ground game good enough? Does it exist?

Andy: He's a brawler. He just wants to get in there and decapitulate, or is it decapitalise? Whatever. He'll be trying to knock some heads off. He reminds me a little of myself when I was fighting. I liked to brawl and I took a lot of blows to the head. Billions, well, millions at least. That was one of the declining keys to my popularity. I can't wait to see him but I hope he isn't too careless in defense.

Sonny: I think he'll do fine, he has some of the best hands in the tournament and his grappling skill is good enough to make him a real threat in close.

Brian: What about Kelvin Kiocic?

Sonny: Kelvin is definitely on the level when it comes to his ability to grapple, yet his striking is lacking a little given the other fighters competing in this tournament. In his Indy appearance though, he really showed his character to take the win. He's determined, likes to stand and bang and gave us a sniff of his defensive grappling skills by stuffing 100% of his opponents thirty-five takedown attempts. If he can continue to evolve and work on a go-to offensive game, he may just give the others a little more than they are expecting, myself included.

Andy: The nerd nailed it, but I tell you something. He's put on weight since that pic they are using. I saw him and I tell you, that is some old pic from his Tinder account or something.

Sonny: Didn't know you used Tinder, Andy?

Andy: Oh no, I don't know anything about it. I just remember that one because a buddy showed me something once. I'll tell you after.

Brian: Let's look now at Lukas Hammer. What do we know about him?

Andy: Doo, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. You can't touch this! Love that song. Hope he wears the tousers!

Sonny: Brian, Lukas has some good hands and respectable wrestling. We know his Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be improved, but given he has a BJJ blue belt in this tournament compared to many white belts, he stacks up quite well overall.

Andy: I think he's very skilled all-round.

Sonny: And Hammer time's Muay Thai is actually at a good place to start, especially when defending against kicks and working the clinch. Overall I think Lukas can do some damage and shouldn't be slept on. As with the others yet to show themselves, his first fight will be important. I see The Hammer pulling out at least one surprise upset win throughout the competition.

Andy: Never had a pro fight though. Another German. Hammer is a funny name then. What's German for hammer?

Brian: Hammer.

Andy: Yes, in German.

Brian: It's hammer.

Andy: No way, the same? What are the chances of that?

Brian: Ok, moving on...

Andy: Maybe they just copied it from us when we invented hammers?

Sonny: So how about the head blows you were talking about earlier, Andy?

Andy: Am I being dumb? MC Hammer is German too then? He don't look it!

Brian: Last up, it's Johnny Wreck from New York. Another one without a pro fight to date. What do you think?

Sonny: It does seem it may have been a tactic to not have pro fights coming in given the shuffling training camps element of the Twisted Tournament. Johnny is another top boxer. I remember hearing about his early adolescent troubles with the law and whatnot before Scooby snapped him up. He reminds me of a Mike Tyson type, and will have to rely heavily on his hands to get him through. He's definitely under skilled when it comes to the other areas of MMA, but he does have a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt which could prove useful if the fight goes to the ground. Overall he may get overwhelmed in close, but if he lets his hands go and has the speed, agility and strength to back them up, he may just be an offensive powerhouse to watch out for.

Andy: I hope he does well. When I was going through my divorce and the drugs rap, my fighting suffered.

Brian: And the incident with the boomerang.

Andy: That wasn't me. I'm going to sue those guys back to Austria.

Sonny: Don't you mean Australia, Andy?

Andy: Austria, Australia. Lay off Sonny, you say potato and I say tater. Don't be a Grandma-Nazi! If I could go back, I'd train harder. I had the talent. Everyone has always said that Andy Good is special. They said that in kindergarten, and they're still saying it now.

Brian: Well, look, we are running out of time, let's go to our sponsors. Give us a call with your questions on 555-7890. Lines are open now.

Chris P. Bacon: Hi guys. I'm a long time listener, first time caller, often times toucher. I've got a few questions for the whole Fight Radio crew. Are any of you concerned about Ivan Russian Mammoth looking disturbingly like Freddy Mercury during his final months? I know I am. My last question is about/for Andy. I'm just wondering how the rehab is going?

Brian: Welcome back. Thanks to everyone who called in. There's not as much time left as we hoped so we will be dealing with one question raised by a few callers. Chris P. Bacon puts it best when he asks "Are any of you concerned about Ivan Russian Mammoth looking disturbingly like Freddy Mercury during his final months?" Sonny?

Sonny: The Russian Mammoth's moustache is so far the most talked about topic going into the fights. Not sure what that says about the other fighters, but it's definitely helping his stock. We'll see if it makes a difference to his ability. Facing Richard Cranium might get interesting.

Brian: Personally , I was a big fan of Queen, Freddie, and their classic rock anthems. Beards have been in fashion for some time, perhaps now it is the dawn of a new Freddie Moustache age? Andy?

Andy: I was never a great fan. I love rock music but, well, you know, Queen always seemed a bit faggy. I was more into Judas Priest. I do know an interesting fact about Freddie though that someone told me in a bar one time. It's this, I always thought that Freddie was just the lead singer, but I was told he did actually play an instrument too. I never quite heard it on the songs, but it's something called "The Pink Oboe". Apparently he could blow that thing pretty well.

Brian: I have to be quick. Thanks to everyone for listening, our sponsors, and of course Sonny and Andy. Stay tuned for TWISTED - Event One live on this station later today.
