Chesty Puller commented on the surge of signings today

"Glad to see some people actually have the balls to come to 3ST. Of course most of these guys look like just plain jokes but that's alright, however there are a couple decent looking opponents. Davie Brophy i have to say i'm looking forward to this fight. You might actually take me to the 2nd round before i knock you out. You have done some good things in other places but you will come to realize that here in 3ST that i am the KING. As for Brian Jones commenting about how he wasnt't sure if he really wanted to fight me seeing how he was like a mentor to me and all of that. I have nothing but respect for you and appreciate all you have done but this is a business and if you are able to get by Eksem Von Ketler i have no problem stepping in the cage and knocking you out and then waiting till you wake up and taking you out for a beer. Now Doc Stuffins i have to say you seem to be the only real potential threat to my title here and when the time comes i am sure it will be one hell of a battle and i'm not going to waste my time talking about any of the other maggots here."

3 Second Tan MMA is delighted to announce its partnership with Supreme Nutrition. At the press conference announcing this, owner Dan James addressed the current spate of signings in the 135lb division.

James: Look, what Chesty did was cool. He went out, flapped his gums and we had people knocking down our door to fight him. Will he win against Davie Brophy? He better. There's only so long you can flap your gums if you can't back it up.

Brophy comes from good stock, and its cool that we've managed to do the deal. Chesty is a hell of a fighter, and this will be a hell of a fight either way.

Reporter: So you're worried Puller might lose?

James: This is the fight game - anybody can win any fight on any given day... I'm just saying its put up or shut up time for him - he brought the dudes in, its his division to own, because we have some contenders ready to do it if he can't.

Welcome to our preview for 3 Second Tan MMA’s Rise Above Hate 5 sponsored by Supreme Nutrition. We are less than 24 hours away from the biggest event in #3ST’s history, so what better way to finish a week of hype than with our final previews.

Lincoln Jones v Carter Jose De La Cus - 135lbs

Opening the card will be a potential barn burner between punch enthusiast Slugger Jones and Dominican prospect Carter Jose De La Cus.

De La Cus is making his #3ST debut in this fight and comes in on the back of 2 back to back TKO victories elsewhere. Slugger Jones is feeling a little delicate after his last fight, a submission loss to Eskem Von Ketler. De La Cus is a big hitter, the likes of which Jones has yet to face in his three MMA fights – both men will be looking to finish early, so expect fireworks.

Roberto Bianchi v Andrei Hudson – 170lbs

Neither of these men have ever won a pro MMA fight, but for very different reasons. Roberto Bianchi sits on a record of 0-4-1 – 2 of his losses have come in previous #3ST events – this man is a perennial loser and there’s talk that his contract might be reconsidered if he loses to the rookie tonight.

Hudson comes into this fight fresh out of his Kansas City training camp where he’s been working hard towards his first MMA fight. We’ve heard big things about this kid’s ability to finish so we’re expecting big things from him in his debut for the Tan. With both of these men looking to establish themselves in a growing division, it’s definitely an interesting prospect of a fight.

Paul Ox v Ivan Mitrovic – 265lbs

Two leviathans go to war as Paul Ox makes his debut in #3ST. Ox will give up a huge 30lb weight advantage to the Russian warrior, but comes into the fight with a strong amateur boxing record and not much else.

Mitrovic is fresh off a debut loss to the huge Bart Simpson, but is much improved since his last outing according to his coaches. Look for a big hard hitting contest here.

Brian Jones v Eksem Von Ketler - 135lbs

Another Bantamweight battle here as Brian “BJ” Jones makes his debut against the first #3ST 135lbs Champion to be crowned. Jones is known as a submission specialist, with every one of his five wins coming via the tap out. The former street performer is looking to establish himself as one of the most impressive up and comers in this division, so expect him to try and make it 6 subs.

Von Ketler comes in after a heartbreaking loss to Chesty Puller for the 135lb title. “The Wolf” is an excellent BJJ practitioner and, like Jones, all of his wins have come via submission. Von Ketler will be looking to earn himself another shot at the title and this is really make or break for him.

Paul Pugh v Robert Wang – 185lbs

Part time Pro Wrestler Paul Pugh comes into this fight off the back of a narrow decision loss to Ryu Matsumoto at last month’s event. Pugh is an excellent wrestler, which could give him a narrow advantage against the Chinese contender.

Wang has a chequered past in MMA, two long drawn out decision fights resulting in us not really knowing what to expect from him. He definitely has a lot in the tank and is proficient in Muay Thai. Each of these men will be looking to impress, so we should see an exciting contest.

Carlos Varona v Sven Arg – 185lbs TITLE FIGHT

Our first title fight of the night as Carlos Varona battles the knockout artist Sven Arg. Varona has won both of his fights in #3ST by Submission, and he’ll be looking to keep out of Sven Arg’s way and collect his 12th victory in MMA.

Arg is an interesting character. The Swede has fought twice in his MMA career and has spent a grand total of 20 seconds in the cage – which makes this an interesting prospective fight. If Arg can get in close and rush Varona into a mistake, there’s a good chance that we see a new Champion here – but either way, this is a clash of two exciting up and comers.

Ryu Matsumoto v Jack Rodriguez – 185lbs

Spider Matsumoto is the man of 1000 fundamentals. Proficient in all aspects of the sport and an excellent point scorer, look for him to control the fight and look for the decision victory.

Rodriguez came into #3ST with a huge reputation and immediately found himself on the wrong end of some of the most impressive 185lb performances we’ve seen in the company. If Jack wants to establish himself he’ll need to push the pace and attack Spider so that he can’t take it the distance.

Davie Brophy v Chesty Puller – 135lbs Co-Main

This fight started as an open challenge issued by brand new 135lbs Champion Chesty Puller took to the internet to challenge any fighter in the world. A publicity stunt, certainly, but contenders stepped up, one of whom, a member of the famous Brophy family. Davie comes in with a strong record, but fresh off two back to back losses.

Puller is a finisher, and won his last fight (capturing the title) in 21 seconds via TKO. Puller’s mouth has gotten him into a lot of trouble throughout his short career, so look for him to come out of the blocks flying and take it to Brophy and test the chin.

Brazos Bender v Sam Rogers - 170lbs Co-Main TITLE FIGHT

In tonight’s Main Event we’ll crown our first 170lbs Champion as Brazos Bender takes on Sam Rogers. Bender is a collegiate wrestler with a 2-0 record making his debut in #3ST. The management of the company have shown great faith in the youngster as they place him in this main event against T-Rex himself, Sam Rogers.

Rogers is the complete opposite. 33 years of age, 32 fights under his belt, he’s here to make this division his own. In his debut for #3ST against Janusz Nowak, Rogers won via a vicious Kimura, earning himself the title match.

I'm open to the idea of fighting again soon, but when you are young, gotta make the most of it. I ain't fucking up my potential just to fight a few times when I am young. I'll get back to the gym and when you become champ, I will look forward to coming back and working my way up to a title shot again ya lad.

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to our review of 3 Second Tan’s Rise Above Hate #5 live from SOLD OUT Underground in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event was sponsored by Supreme Nutrition – GET SUPREME.

Now, let’s take it into the undercard:

Lincoln Jones v Carter Jose De La Cus - 135lbs

Coming into this fight both of these men were looking to establish in the fastest growing 135lb division in the country. We predicted before this fight that we’d see an early finish, and Carter Jose De La Cus was not here to play games – coming out of the blocks flying with a flurry of huge punch combos. Jones struggled to adapt, attempting to clinch twice before being caught by a strong jab – sending him reeling into the cage. As soon as his back hit the cage, Carter unloaded and the referee had no choice but to step in. Immediately after the fight, Jose De La Cus demanded a fight at the next show.

Roberto Bianchi v Andrei Hudson – 170lbs

Andrei Hudson was clearly badly managed here. He struggled to make weight on Friday morning and then stepped into the cage visibly tired. Bianchi on the other hand apparently had the camp of his life. For the first time in his career, Bianchi was completely dominant, causing huge damage early on to Hudson and kept control of his adversary throughout.

As the fight wore on, it became clear that if Hudson was going to win this fight, he had to finish, but he just couldn’t put anything together to hurt the Italian. We rolled into the third and final round and Hudson could barely hold his hands up. For the first time in his career, Bianchi smelled blood and dropped Hudson with a peach of a left hook. Bianchi immediately mounted and was dragged off by the referee as young Hudson’s lights went out. As Bianchi backed up, finally getting his long awaited win, Hudson’s young MMA career seems to be in jeopardy after such a crushing loss.

Paul Ox v Ivan Mitrovic – 265lbs

Not much to say here other than this could have been a lot more than it ended up being. Ivan Mitrovic has a glass jaw – its MMA’s worst kept secret, but for whatever reason, Paul Ox (a former amateur boxer) absolutely failed to capitalise.

Mitrovic learned lessons in his first fight with Bart Simpson, and kept Paul Ox at bay with a couple of strong combos of his own throughout, controlling the pace and stunting anything that Ox tried to bring to the table.

Even as the fight wore on, Ox failed to score and ended up rightly losing by unanimous decision. After the fight, Mitrovic announced that he would be focusing on training and wouldn’t fight until the end of the year at the earliest.

Brian Jones v Eksem Von Ketler - 135lbs

We learned before the fight that matchmaker Dan James had christened this a number one contender fight, so suddenly there was a lot more on the line, and maybe this caused the fight we saw. Eksem has had a rough time recently, and this was no different.

Coming into previous fights Eksem was able to work his submissions but here, Jones had his number on every single attempt. Rather than trying to knock him out, Jones easily outworked him when he found himself on the ground.

The standup game was more of the same as Jones threw kick after kick to Von Ketler’s body and legs, draining his energy and ultimately scoring enough points to capture a win via Unanimous Decision. It’s unclear where the former champ Von Ketler goes from here, but for Jones, there’s a fight with Chesty Puller on the horizon – potentially at next month’s Rise Above Hate 7.

Paul Pugh v Robert Wang – 185lbs

Then we come to this. Two contenders in the 185lb division. Wang has never fought a fight that didn’t go to decision, and tonight was no different. Pugh came into this fight ready to throw punches, throwing a whopping 71 combos throughout the fight in the direction of Wang… three of them found their mark.

With Pugh struggling to land, Wang started to try and control him with takedowns and clinches – Pugh happily springing out of pretty much any attempt, showing his ability to defend from a bad position. As we progressed, both men would exchange wild fists and kicks, but neither man really made any real effort to win the fight.

As the final bell rang, Pugh was awarded the fight via Unanimous Decision – immediately suggesting in the post match interview that he’d welcome a rematch because he feels like he let down the fans.

Carlos Varona v Sven Arg – 185lbs TITLE FIGHT

The Champ Varona came into this fight full of confidence in his ability to finish, and he absolutely showed why. Arg looked uncomfortable from the get go, absorbing a series of strikes in the first few seconds and immediately finding himself on his back as Varona attacked.

As soon as Varona took position, he worked the Kimura – Arg managed to fight it off for a few seconds before Varona locked it in nice and tight – forcing Arg to tap and retaining the 185lb title.

Ryu Matsumoto v Jack Rodriguez – 185lbs

Matsumoto vs Rodriquez was always going to be a strange proposition. In our preview, we suggested that Ryu would happily fight for a decision here – how wrong we were. While Matsumoto exhibited his ability to control, he was keen to drop elbows from dominant positions, and with Rodriguez being shaky on the ground at best, this fight became a forgone conclusion easy.

Matsumoto had an answer to everything Jack had and before long had established himself as the winner of the first round… but with half a minute to go, Matsumoto did something crazy – jacking Rodriguez’s with a huge elbow and sending the guy into la la land.

Spider immediately got to his feet, seemingly shocked that he’d managed to knock his opponent out, and sheepishly began celebrating his first KO win of his career.

Davie Brophy v Chesty Puller – 135lbs Co-Main

Masquerading as the Main Event, Puller vs Brophy was hotly anticipated and absolutely lived up to its hype. As we started, Chesty Puller was still running his mouth as Brophy caught him in the side of the head – splitting him wide open with the first punch of the fight. Brophy continued to work hard, throwing combos, but Puller was managing to keep away from them – countering with his own combo that cut Brophy.

The fans were electric throughout as it became very clear that this fight was not going to the ground and with 30 seconds gone, Brophy rocked Puller, who immediately answered with a huge right of his own.

Brophy then took it to another level and sent Puller sprawling to the canvas. Puller hopped back to his feet and bounced off the cage, but he still looked like he was on wobbly legs. Brophy sensed blood at this point, faking a little before driving a right into Chesty’s jaw, sending the Champion down to a knee. Chesty tried to clinch, but Brophy was having none of it and began a series of strikes down to the canvas which resulted in a tap out from the champion – a first in 3 Second Tan.

After the fight, Brophy thanked the fans for their support and suggested he may be interested in fighting for the company again in the future. Both men shook hands as Chesty went to leave the cage.

Brazos Bender v Sam Rogers - 170lbs Co-Main TITLE FIGHT

This Welterweight title fight was always going to be a tough sell for Bender. He’s a rookie in the division and Sam Rogers has been doing this a long long time. As the bell rang, Bender threw a terrible headkick that was immediately pounced upon by the veteran. After a few loose jabs, they ended up on the ground, and Sam Rogers immediately looked like he was going to finish this fight.

As Rogers controlled the situation, Bender seemed to be in deep waters, struggling hard, but ultimately getting nowhere. Soon after, Rogers mounted the rookie and began to work a very neat looking Arm Triangle. At this point, the fight was clearly over after a few quick flails, Bender had no choice but to tap out.

Rogers spoke afterward about his pride in being the new champion, and welcomed all comers to try and defeat him. Bender escaped the cage fairly quickly after the fight, clearly looking to go back to the drawing board after being humbled here.

And that’s all she wrote! Thanks for reading and we’ll see you at Rise Above Hate 6.
