Ramirez
i've heard conflicting information regarding defending submissions and i just wanted to see if anyone knows for certain (maybe post a link). i am under the impression that to defend submissions you need bjj, defensive grap, transitions and wrestling. a friend of mine reckons you need to throw sub offence into the equation, what do you guys reckon? itakebrides
yep i heard having submission defend submissions also but i feel if you get your defense grappling to elite i doubt you get submitted with the ground game the way it is now
stpierrecanada
I don't think sub offense has anything to do with your defensive grappling, I've been a ground manager for a long time and I have't noticed this.My guy Jack Calypso had elite++ BJJ, Elite++ sub offense, defense, transitions, wrestling and all elite physicals and only wonderful GnP, and got mostly TKO wins and got subbed 3 of his last 5 losses, I couldn't believe it.. His opponents had great BJJ but still..
Ramirez
has anyone seen any other threads in the forum regarding this? it would be good to get more info.
clydebankblitz
If I'm correct, you need submissions to defend submissions, just like you need punches to defend punches (to a degree). I often see people actually USING submissions to defend when they hit the ground, but really that's a risky strategy to run out the clock as opposed to holding on for a stand up. alcapone
Yes i think a guy with 10 DG and 10 subs ist harder to sub than a guy with just 10 DG and 1 subs
Ramirez
Yes i think a guy with 10 DG and 10 subs ist harder to sub than a guy with just 10 DG and 1 subs yeah but what about a guy with 15 DG and 1 subs as opposed to 10 DG and 10 subs? alcapone
not easy to answer, i think 10 DG and 10subs is better ?
Ramirez
i was hoping some of the more experienced managers could enlighten us but maybe this thread is too obscure and it hasn't been seen. maybe it's worth asking Mike..
