RegularJohn
I am sir Cool, then you have to look at your Personal Assistant page. After a 1 on 1 training session with 100% Energy and 100% Morale with an elite trainer, your fighter's skill should go from Useless -- to Useless + and the related primary should go to Useless - That is not an exact gauge though. in order to get the exact learning speed value you have to either download a script and add it to your browser or double click the skill bar in the "Skills Snapshot" page and inspect the script. I don't have the time to look it up now but there are threads in the forum explaining exactly what you have to do.
Warwynd
You can do it without downloading scripts. Go to the Skills Snapshot page and load the skill you were training. The simply click the skill bar of the skill in question. it will give you a number and that number will be your learning speed. But it has to be a skill that you: Put no points into Have not trained previously are in a 1-on-1 training session with a coach that has at least Remarkable in the appropriate skill. You must be at or close to 100% morale. Any number that is at 5.0 or less means a slow learner. Anything between 5.1 and 5.5 is a moderate learner. Might do OK in ID restricted orgs, but probably not in the open orgs, and probably won't be a champion. He's a journeyman in other words. Above 5.5 you have a decent to fast learner. with proper build, training and slider skills could become a real challenge to anyone and could well see championship titles in his career.

I came back here to correct this because I did discover that, that is the case... doh!... In any case, you can get the script and the app to run it by a simple Google search. I use Firefox which uses Greasemonkey or Tampermonkey. My bad.
