The rebranding is complete.  I'm going to be following a Bellator style model.

The game can definitely use a new mid-tier open id org. I'll send a handful of fighters your way. I hope you succeed.

Thank you that's very kind of you.  I think there is a space in the market for it.  Certainly there doesn't seem to be anywhere for veterans to earn more towards their retirement.  And of course I would be delighted to send you some contracts out when you are ready.

Now looking towards another event likely around the second half of October. We still need more fighters to run that card, so if you happen to know anyone with some unsigned fighters, let them know about Evolution.  Thanks again guys for giving us a try.  It is much appreciated. And personally, I think the card looks pretty awesome for a debut show.

EMMA 1 - Gracie vs. Larsen

Welcome to preview of Evolution MMA’s debut event.  All fights will take place inside the Pentagon.  For the uninitiated, it’s a five-sided cage.  It’s a somewhat unusual shape for a fight, as its five corners are distributed unevenly, making it a somewhat disorientating experience as you are getting punched in the face.  We have nine fights scheduled, all MMA rules, the scoring system will be 10 point must, and all fights are scheduled for three, five minute rounds as at Evolution, only title fights have championship rounds.  Enough of the preamble, let’s get down to business.

Prelims

Welterweight - Dalton McConnell 22-12-0 vs. Jason Laszlo 0-3-0

The opening fight of the night sees former JAG Battle League Middleweight Champion Dalton “MC Train” McConnell against the flamboyant Jason “The Dream” Laszlo.  Despite Laszlo’s inexperience, these two fighters have very similar skillsets.  McConnell, a winner of five “Fight of the Night” awards, does his best work in the clinch, where he ups his work-rate and tries to pulverise his opponent.  Jason Laszlo, holder of a 6-9 grappling record has yet to assert himself on an opponent in MMA.  It’s a fight that could well be decided up against the cage, where the better wrestler may take the victory.

Bantamweight - Dylan Smith 1-0-0 vs. Clinton Strong 5-3-0

Our second fight of the evening sees Dylan Smith, who was unbeaten as an amateur boxer, face off against submission specialist, Clinton Strong.  Smith, who took to social media to call out Strong, has a wonderful boxing pedigree and finished his only fight to date in just over a minute.  Strong, a one-time kickboxer who held a 4-3 record before moving to MMA, holds a brown belt in BJJ and has submitted every opponent he has faced.  The question here will be how good Dylan Smith’s takedown defence is, because if Strong gets him down, Smith might find himself in deep water.

Light-Heavyweight - Apollinaire Aury 5-5-0 vs. Pete Prescott 2-1-0

Apollinaire “Money” Aury has lightening fists and an aptitude for violence.  He has a five centimetre height advantage, and a dangerous jab.  Aury has finished all five of his victories within the first round.  His opponent, “Captain” Pete Prescott is slightly more well-rounded, and a particularly dangerous wrestler.  Realistically there are two factors at play here.  The first is whether Aury can use his jab to maintain distance between them to prevent Prescott from getting his hands on him.  And the second is Aury’s gas tank.  He has dropped every fight he has had that has gone into round two.

Heavyweight - Robert Mohan 2-1-0 vs. Vadim Leonov Jr 1-0-0

The final prelim brings a clash between two heavy hitters.  Robert Mohan is primarily a boxer that likes to throw his punches in bunches, but isn’t afraid to go after takedowns to mix things up.  His opponent, the larger, and younger of the two men, Vadim Leonov is facing a baptism of fire.  In his debut fight he demonstrated some vicious elbows before submitting Franklin Shark with a kimura that dislocated his opponent's arm.  However, Mohan is a step up in class and Leonov Jr will have to raise his game if he is to get his hand raised at the end of the fight.

Main Card

Middleweight - Razmik Grigorian 12-7-0 vs. Won Chuen Cao 3-2-0

The opening fight of the Main Card brings together two fighters that have been experiencing wildly different fortunes.  Grigorian is on a four-fight skid, the worst run of his career.  He is an exceptional boxer who has seven “Fight of the Night” awards.  He is an unashamed headhunter who relies on his work rate to get the job done.  “The Ghost Faced Killer”, Won Chuen Cao, is quite possible the oldest-looking man in MMA, it’s hard to believe that he is only 24.  Cao, a former grappler with an unbeaten record has experienced a mixed bag in MMA.  Oddly Cao has a better record at open weight which suggests that perhaps weight-cutting isn’t easy when you look 108 years old.

Light-Heavyweight - Johnny Lydon 22-20-0 vs. Tang Cao 3-2-0

Wiley veteran Johnny Lydon will try to break a two-fight losing streak against “The Iron Man of Asia”, Tang Cao.  It’s a fight that will be decided by the slimmest of margins as they have very similar skill sets.  Lydon is an exceptional stand up fighter that will hit you with all of his limbs.  With devastating leg kicks, and  an impressive clinch game, it could well be a long night for Cao.  “The Iron Man of Asia”, can hold his own on his feet with deadly accuracy, landing over 60% of his punches.  This is going to be a gunfight and could well be the “Fight of the Night”.

Featherweight - Gustavo Figueroa 10-3-0 vs. Mason Rogers 14-12-0

“The Cuban Machete”, Gustavo Figueroa likes to pepper faces like most people pepper their steaks.  A gifted stand-up fighter with an impressive gas tank, he can be a handful for any fighter.  His opponent Mason Rogers is a walking brick wall.  Rogers is somewhat of a decision specialist with 78% of his wins going the distance.  This is a fight that is Figueroa’s cardio versus Rogers chin and could well go to the judges.

Co-Main Event

Middleweight - Davide Monto 19-18-1 vs. Donnie Larkin 23-15-0

Our Co-Main Event brings together two veterans of incredible pedigree.  Monto, the former Real Ruthless Fighting Championship Middleweight Champion has been there and done it all.  The German is an elite wrestler who likes to take the fight to the mat where he is a different level.  What makes him more dangerous is he also possesses a red belt in BJJ.  When you consider that all of his 19 victories have come by way of submission and has brought him 10 “Submission of the Night” awards, it adds up to a freakishly dangerous ground fighter.

His opponent, Donnie Larkin is no slouch either.  A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, he is more than comfortable fighting off of his back.  Larkin tends to mix up his game plan more than Monto and will happily stand and bang.  With 8 “Submission of the Night” awards to his name, he is a proven ground fighter who can hold his own against most opponents, however, Monto is a different kettle of fish.

The gameplays are simple.  Monto will look to get Larkin down and tie his limbs in knots, whereas Larkin needs to keep the fight standing and make sure Monto never gets a grip on him.  The question is whether Larkin’s takedown defence can stand up to Monto’s pressure.

Main Event

Middleweight - Eliz Gracie 22-7-0 vs. Morten Larsen 5-3-0

What more is there to say about Eliz Gracie.  A two-weight Champion, twenty-one submissions in his twenty-two victories.  The Moldovan is reaching the twilight of his career and we are delighted that he signed for Evolution.  Gracie’s modus operandi is straightforward.  He will try and take his opponent down and break one of his bones.  He is an excellent ground fighter with a cult following who has only once in his twenty-nine fights, gone to a decision.

Morten Larsen is a 20 year-old prospect hailing all the way from Denmark.  Larsen is the superior striker in this contest, however, Gracie represents a significant improvement compared to the class of fighters that he has previously faced.  Larsen has dynamite fists, which was evident in his streak of four consecutive victories by knock out when he fought for Money Promotions.

We have a submission legend facing off against an up and coming striker in what is a mouthwatering contest.  With a twenty-year age gap between the fighters, it feels like the conclusion of a kung-fu movie. The Sensei versus the Protégée, the Master versus the Apprentice.  It is a fascinating matchup of two contrasting styles which will bring fireworks from the moment the bell tolls.

Hendrik Vermeulen

"There are supposed to be 10 fights on this card. Apparently I'm not too bad a matchmaker with the organisation owners, fans, and fighters all agreeing to my earlier suggestions. Except for one guy - Captain Gonza!

Stop ducking me!

I'm pretty much a retired guy that helps out at my gym and a little bit of matchmaking on the side. We've got similar records, and I'm even older than you are. Stop being afraid and sign the dotted line so we can throw down in the org's first ever card.

I'm ready to put on a show for the next generation of fighters. Come and meet me in the middle and stop being scared!"

Captain Gonzo has gone AWOL.  If anyone wants to step in and fight Hendrik on the EMMA 1 or even the EMMA 2 card, let me know.
