Hello savages, as 400k approaches and Savage Fightwear looks to revisit our scholarship program, it feels like a good time to check in with our original 5 - the OG's if you will.

3 years ago this month, July 2020, we launched our scholarship program. Introducing you all to 5 promising prospects, with violence and savagery a very part of their DNA. But, this is MMA, and violence and savagery alone will not get you to the top. Let us see how our OG's careers played out...

Jaxon "The Savage" Bremner (355066)

Image

Jaxon Bremner was "The Savage" long before the scholarship program found him, and it only made it an easy decision to induct him into the Savage family.

Managed by The Gunner at the time of his induction, Jaxon would go on to have a "mixed" MMA career. His MMA record of 14 wins (10 subs, 4 decision) and 11 losses (3TKO, 2 subs, 6 decisions) and his TWGC record of 15 wins and 16 losses, only serve to highlight this. He will tell you himself that the peak of his careers was being crowned TWGC champion 145lbs D4 20191211134532twgc_belt.jpgon Christmas day 2019, sacrificing time with his family to reach the summit of the grappling world.

Having said that Jaxon remains a well respected Martial Artist and regularly hosts classes down at Silverback MMA, helping his new manager Antonio Maximus to train up a new generation of arm snapping, neck twisting Jitz practitioners. Jaxon's Savagery and need for violence may have subsided these days, at the age of 34 he has found his peace, and we can all bow our heads in respect for any warrior who battles his way to a peaceful mind.

Frank "The Legion" Morrison (360387)

XOOQyjY.jpeg

Perhaps the most decorated of the OG Savages, Frank Morrison has blazed his way to a career total 31 wins (4 TKO, 27 decisions) and 15 losses (3 TKO, 3 subs, 9 decisions). He could change his nickname to "The decision" and it would work, but his leadership within "The Legion" may come under scrutiny, so best not to fix what was never broken.

Frank has battled his way to 9 title fights, winning 3. Including what many may consider the greatest title belt of all time the SYN 170lbs title  2022050500045420120325031119synbeltnew.jpg.

At 32 years of age Frank remains active and is currently on the roster at Dynasty MMA perhaps one final push for another title fight. His next fight against Gustava Harakka is an opportunity for Frank to lay down a marker in his new org. Although, as with all fighters, the cracks may be beginning to show in his overall game.

Regardless of where his career goes from here, there is no doubt that Frank "The Legion" Morrison lived up to the hype of being a Savage. From his troubled youth, committing crimes such as vandalism, theft, & he was even the suspect in a murder case though not enough evidence was found to convict him. Frank has made the best of his situation and can retire to the bahamas, with a fat stack of cash, as and when he chooses. Leaving the game on his own terms with the knowledge that he made it happen.

Takeshi "Naniwa Hawk" Takamura (350344) - Retired

Y15qnd5.jpeg

Takeshi "Naniwa Hawk" Takamura had all of the ingredients to be a devastating Savage, but sometimes life doesn't go as you planned.

Managed by one of MMAT's most creative managers, Rei, Takeshi showed real promise early on, even if he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed (113IQ). His career record of 4 wins (2TKO, 2 decision) and 5 losses (2TKO, 2 subs, 1 decision) don't tell the true story of the Naniwa Hawks tumultuous life outside of the octagon.

He will always be an OG savage, but a host of unfortunate events and injuries meant retirement was the only option for Takeshi "Naniwa Hawk Takamura.

Some say he returned to his hometown of Osaka, Japan. Supporting his family and the people of his local area, others suggest he roams from place to place taking part in MOBA competitions under various pseudonyms.

Wherever you are Takeshi, and however you choose to walk through this life, may the Savage gods go with you.

"The Astral Traveler" Mark Jovic (365287) - Retired

rTMoqFi.jpeg

Mark Jovic remains a mystery to this day. Managed by Aydan The Wandering Spirit(popart), Mark entered the Savage program on the back of an emboldened pitch. However, we were warned what might happen.

"The Astral Traveler" gave us certain assurances that his days of outer body experiences and being haunted by demons beyond the realm in which we are familiar were over, at the time of his induction.

Not long after he entered the program, the demons returned. He battled his way to 2 losses (1 TKO, 1 decision) but that was the end of his MMA career. His Astral walking became more draining and he would regularly disappear into the void for hours if not days at a time. One day he just never came back, and we were left with the physical shell of Mark Jovic, his spiritual self has never resurfaced, or has it?

Zai "Doo" Druggs (360265) - Retired

cRAjA9n.jpeg

The last of our 5 OG's, but my no means the least is Zai "Doo" Drugs. Now, you may think that recreational hallucinogenic drug use would hamper a career in mixed Martial Arts. We did too, to be honest, but Zai was the exception to the rule.

Zai's career record of 11 wins (10 TKOS, 1 decision) and 2 losses (1sub, 1 decision), which included an incredible run of winning the CMMA 145lbs title 20210605235843Cali%20Belt.png and defending it 8 times in a row, shows he was worthy of his place as a Savage Scholar.

However, as of 2021, Zai made the decision to stop fighting. Whether it was in pursuit of deeper hallucinogenic trips, maybe experimenting with ayahuasca and isolation tanks in the middle of the woods of his hometown Dusseldorf, Germany, or in pursuit of another venture, we just don't know.

His retirement to the Bahamas is all we really know, but Zai "Doo" Drugs burned bright, even if he only burned for a short period of time.

Fly High brother, Fly High.
