Top P4P

Recommended Posts

Im thinking the top P4P guys must have started the game during some serious bugs or something. I was just skimming through YB Sol's fight commentary, literally sub attempt, sub attempt, sub attempt. And he actually subs out purple belts while only being a white belt. Now I saw somewhere that it has been fixed. Seems some people (all same manager) lucked out on that... I wish I got my first fights in like that, I had an awesome game plan for my first fight today, I was pounding the guy out in side control for a minute and somehow he bucked onto my back and easily choked me out. Within a minute.

YB Sol has always been a purple belt. The game engine initially let fighters go for sub after sub continuously and Sol isn't the only one to have taken advantage of that. Most of my fighters are standup fighters and most of my early losses (and a couple of my early wins) are from this tactic.

As for your fighter getting tapped out, without seeing your fighter or the fight commentary i can't really tell you much other than this is an mma simulator, not a checkers simulator. Anything can happen in mma and all it takes against a submission specialist is one mistake to get caught. If I had to guess, I'd say that you're aggression and finish sliders were close to the max, so when you're in gnp mode, you make yourself more susceptible to getting caught.

On another note, YB Sol has taken advantage of an aspect of that game that has since changed... but i'll let you figure it out ^^

I was mistaken, I looked at the wrong picture for YB, his opponent was the white belt, he was the purple. Makes sense a white belt getting tapped. I mixed up the fighters, for a second I was like damn, white belt subbing a purple belt sounds lame!

I think you're right about the reason I lost the fight. I figure because like you said my finish, and aggression were on 100%, when he got his back taken, he didn't try to counter at all. He got put to sleep, no tap!. I have another fight today in Montreal, hopefully things work out a bit better for me!

Let's not forget that blue belt Kevin Burns submitted black belt Pan-Am BJJ champion Roan Carniero.

In Sol's defense, he won his last fight by TKO =)

I've also seen purple belts not being able to submit white belts for 3 rounds too. So it's definately in the tactics that you set.

I have as much faith in the p4p rankings as I do in Santa Claus

have some fighter id's of guys you think should be on the p4p list but who aren't?

when most fighters have 6 fights or less under their belts the rankings can be a bit skewed... but most of them make a good argument for being on the list

fair enough. My rating for p4p rankings has always existed around how dominant the fighter is in their own division and if their dominance would translate to other divisions if size wasn't a factor. My current rankings are as follows

Fedor: There are a few guys out there of merit who he hasn't faced (Mir, Lesnar, Barnett), but nobody has a resume like fedor. Is he beatable? maybe.. but in 30 fights.. you could argue that nobody has taken a round from him, and he's fought some of the best.

Gsp: He deserved the belt before the serra mishap, he deserved to be in the top10 p4p before the serra mishap.. but it wasn't until that loss that he truly became the dominant force he is now. There is always the punchers chance against gsp.. but I dont think that anybody has a legitimate shot at beating him for years to come. He can sprawl almost any takedown, he can take anybody down, he can pass anybody's guard, and he can gnp the shit out of them for more rounds than you care to watch.

Penn: I think he could probably beat anybody in the welterweight division not named gsp... and as much as i have grown to like him since the gsp fight, that fight had more to do with how good gsp really is than penn's lack of skill. Maybe gsp identified holes in penn's game that others could exploit.. but i still dont think that anybody in the lw division has the tools to take a round from him.

Silva: Silva has lost rounds to henderson, leites, and lutter. To me that says he can be beat. For a long time I was ragging on his takedown defense as being some of the worst of any elite fighter, but it looked significantly better in the Leites fight. I think his standup is the best in mma, and every round you dont finish him... you stand the chance of getting knocked out before you can get it to the ground. With that said, I think there are a few fighters in the division who could hold him to the mat and hammer fist him for 5 rounds
