KOR 121 - Birth of a Prince

Back at you again for KOR 121, and this time we're having a formal celebration. It is for the Birth of a Prince, which is their latest card. With a name like that, you can just tell this event will be big. These match-ups will be taking place in the Flamengo Arena which can host an audience of 6,000. By just glancing over the card it can be seen that there are three title matches, 145, 155 and 205 weight divisions. Folks look forward to a long night of action that will be marked as an historic moment you have to tell your kids about.

205 lbs 3 rounds Bimbo Slide v Brian Fox

Bimbo "The Wannabe" Slide (7-4) was a man who is sadly plagued by genetics that allow him to cut easily. None the the less he has stuck in this brutal game and manged to amass a positive record of 7-4. With his fights always going the distance except for the ones he loses, cardio is not a question, he can go for days. Bimbo will be facing off against Brian "The Hurricane" Fox (15-10) power is not a question when it comes to him. A glass jaw on the other hand comes into question with half his losses coming by way of KO. Hopefully he has been working on striking defense for this upcoming match. This fight can end on the feet or be taken down with Bimbo's superior wrestling and BJJ skills.

265+ lbs 3 rounds King Bong v Forrest Glover

King Bong(4-1) I've got to say the title king really does fit him, with all his wins coming by way of KO. But it seems he needs to work on head kick defense, since that caused him his first and only loss. Forrest Glover (5-1) might be able to stand with Bong, after coming off a 2 fight win streak by KO. Glover should play a tactical striking game and try to get that big counter which puts the King to sleep. The King might show some aggressiveness and knock-out Glover before he has a chance. Either way expect a brutal KO from these two men.

205 lbs 3 rounds Rami Raakalainen v Keith Roylance

The stand-up battle just keep rolling out with Rami "Rambo" Raakalainen (11-10) vs Keith Roylance (9-5). Rambo seems to have an up and down career, evening out almost every win with a loss. He might have the knock-out power but he needs to protect that chin, otherwise he'll have a short lived career. Roylance on the other hand knows how to keep his chin tucked, only letting it slip up two times, which is understandable. Its a little ironic that he supposedly has a good chin but has been KO-ed before. This fight should be brawler against brawler, and let the better chin win?

265+ lbs 3 rounds Giant Silva v Gheorghe Muresan

This card just keeps getting better! Next up we have a Boxer vs Muay Thai match. Giant Silva (10-3) being the boxer and Gheorghe "Tiny" Muresan (5-2) being the MT specialist. A giant vs someone named tiny interesting. seeing as Tiny weighs 300lbs! Tiny coming of a dazzling head kick win over King Bong is ready to split anyone's skull in half. Giant on the other hand recently has 2 KO wins, one of his victims being King Bong's opponent Forrest Glover. The only question to ask here, is will the fight end by a punch or kick knock-out?

265 lbs 3 rounds Genival Lacerda v Blazej Polak

A turn of tides, this match-up will be a tactical ground game battle. Genival "De quem é esse jegue" Lacerda (5-3) holds a brown belt, so already the odds are in his favor, given that he had a credible instructor that didn't just hand out belts. Who knows Blazej "RED LION" Polak (2-1) might still have a chance, with him training out a place called The Den. For his sake they better be sending out fighters who resemble lions and tigers.

265 lbs 3 rounds Bruno Masterson v Machete Trejo

Bruno "The" Masterson (11-4) 8 years the elder to Machete "El Cuchillo" Trejo (1-0). This will be a battle of fresh blood vs old blood. Looking at the fighters combined history this will most likely be a stand-up match. But I wouldn't put it past Trejo to try to take him down and submit him. For the fans sake I'm wishing they keep it standing.

205 lbs 3 rounds Luiz Charneski v Alex Brannigan

"The Orphan" Luiz Charneski (6-2) has the stand-up skills but for some reason prefers to take it down for a sub. Interesting choice of game-plan, and it seems most of his opponents were blue belts just like Alex Brannigan (8-1). Alex has a similar wrestling background to Luiz so taking him to the ground should be kind of hard. Along with Alex's superior Muay Thai skills, Luiz legs will be swollen up and moving too slow for an explosive takedown.

155 lbs 5 rounds title Europha Emanuel v Floppy McPoppins

Here we are at one of three title fights this night. Europha "Little Evil" Emanuel (11-4) well I don't know where to start, he basically doesn't have any weaknesses. His stand-up game is solid and he walks around with a brown belt on his waist. Only thing I can suggest for him is a slight improvement in his wrestling game. Floppy McPoppins (3-1) on the other hand has the superior wrestling but not the stand-up or BJJ to back it up. If McPoppins gets the takedown and tries to GnP he will have to be weary of Emanuel's BJJ and watch-out for those off the back subs. If he does that it will be a replay of Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva minus the triangle at the very end.

205 lbs 3 rounds title Hector Osorio v Tommy Struker

Another title fight, we've jumped up by 50lbs but ironically enough we dropped down to 3 rounds. I guess those bigger guys don't have as much tank as the little ones ha-ha. Hector "The Rooster" Osorio (16-6) knockout artist will be going up against Tommy "The Striker" Struker (10-1). Compared to Hector Tommy's striking skills are okay. The pay must be good for Tommy since clearly he will lose this match. Hector just dominates in every area, but this is MMA folks, one punch or leaving one limb dangling for a submission can end it for you.

145 lbs 3 rounds title Freiherr Albrecht Alexander von Altenburg v Krav Mcgraw

Here is our main event of the night. First off is the man with such a long name, a nickname was necessary Freiherr Albrecht Alexander "Der Professor" von Altenburg (12-2). He backs up such a bold name with his record, coming off a 4 fight win streak, two of which ended by KO, not letting his opponents out of the 2nd round. Krav "Executioner" Mcgraw (10-8) doesn't have as solid a record but all of his victories where by submission. Looking back it seems the Armbar is his favorite, so a heads up to "Der Professor" watch your arms carefully. It's no surprise this fight will go to the ground, its just a matter of who will come up with the belt after its all said and done.

Justin Cider here for MMAHead radio. What a night of fights we saw a KOR 124 - Crowning of Kings. We are here with the Co-Main event winner, and now new MW Champ Vitor Belfort. Vitor thanks for being here, how does it feel to be the Champ?

Belfort - It feels GREAT Justin! I was so excited to have won the belt in my previous company, but then it went bankrupt so that sucked. Then KOR called and offered me an amazing contract, and it didn't hurt that some of the best in the world compete in this company either. After the merger with AFC I was very happy to be offered the chance to fight for the vacant MW strap. Mr. White didn't have to do that, especially since I was coming off a loss to Dog Crazy in a fight that he clearly had my number. So again thanks to Mr. White for thinking of me for this fight.

Cider - Humble words, from a humble Champ. Well Champ care to talk a little about what the game plan was tonight?

Belfort - Well I'll tell you what the game plan wasn't the first round that's for damn sure! Manliest is a tough fighter, and I knew he would want this one to get to the ground asap. He didn't disappoint in that regard he was shooting for takedowns like a mother! I think he may have tired himself out in the first as his takedowns didn't have the same power during the second, and third rounds. I was able to implement my game plan then which was to sprawl and brawl using crisp counters. Not only does he have a great ground game, but he also has KO power in each hand so I didn't want to stand and trade with him. The plan worked great in the second and third. I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

Cider - Well now here you sit at the top of the heap. Any thoughts on future opponents? How about the state of the MW division?

Belfort - Like you say I am now at the top so there is a BIG target on my back! As far as future opponents are concerned I'm not in the position to pick my next one I'll leave that to management, however there are some tough, tough guys in this division so whoever it is it'll be a war for sure! The division is kind of in a rebuilding period right now since the merger quite a few of our best fighters made their way to AFC, but we still have some amazing guys here and I know Mr. White is recruiting so I think this is an exciting time for KOR. I look forward to keeping this belt for a long time.

Justin Cider here back once again for MMAHead Radio thanks for tuning into the show! KOR 128 - Spoils of War took place on Dec 29th, 2010. On this card we may have seen the passing of the torch in my opinion. Vitor Belfort put on another fine performance outpointing a former KOR MW Champ in a dominate display of his boxing pedigree. Just walking in the studio door is the one and only Vitor hey Champ how you doing? Good to see you in here again!

Belfort : Thanks Justin it's good to be back!

Cider : Well first off congrats on the win you looked great out there!

Belfort : Yeah thanks Justin. I was a little disappointed that I as unable to finish him, but Arjan Boudewijn is a tough dude! There's a reason he has 14 wins, and was once ranked the #3 MW in the Tycoonverse.

Cider : Trust me Vitor you have nothing to be disappointed about. Your performance was one of the best displays of counter strike boxing that I've seen in quite some time. I mean if people started getting down on you for this performance well then I guess they'd also think GSP is a slouch for not being able to always finish his opponents, even when the talent pool is so stacked! Anyway as you mentioned Arjan Boudewijn was at one point ranked as the #3 MW in the Tycoonverse, and once held your belt. How did it feel stepping in the cage, and facing such a talented fighter?

Belfort : Honestly it was a honor to fight him. I have looked up to fighters like Boudewijn my whole career. All my life I dreamt of competing in this sport so I could someday fight at the highest level against opponents like Arjan Boudewijn. And I would just like to say congrats to Arjan Boudewijn he has nothing to be ashamed of he put up a good fight, and like I said before it was truly an honor to have fought him!

Cider : Yeah with the gap in experience, and the fact he has been around much longer training his craft not a lot of people were giving you much of a chance in this fight. It has got to feel good to have proved the MMA world wrong.

Belfort : Well just getting the win feels good. I really don't listen to much to the media, or the critics. Most of them would pass out, or shit their pants if they even considered doing what I do. So I really have no time to listen to these people. My true fans, and my family knew how hard I'd been training and how badly I wanted to come out of this one with the win. So they had my back, and at the end of the day that's all that matters to me!

Cider : Well it was a great fight from a true Champion, and I look forward to seeing you in the cage again. Any final thoughts before you have to leave?

Belfort : Well I'd just like to thank my management team, all my coaches at Phoenix BJJ Academy in Rio, my sponsors Steel Penn Fight Gear, and Syndicate Drugs. I wouldn't be where I'm at in my career without those guys help so I am truly thankful. And last but not least I'd like to say thanks to Mr. White and his staff. Since they took the organization over they have done a great job with all the fighters, and making sure to keep us all active. Not to mention the nice contract extension I just got didn't hurt either!

Cider : Ok folks well that's all the time we have for today. Thanks for tuning in for another episode of MMAHead Radio I'm your host Justin Cider, and remember if you not taking them down and pounding them roughly chances are you doing it wrong!

In a locker room conversation overheard by one of the local media, former MW Champ Vitor Belfort was heard having the following discussion with his manager,

Grace - Tough loss Champ. We'll get him in the rematch I've already sent a request to Kings management requesting an immediate rematch to happen.

Belfort - Well you can stop calling me Champ now Chuck, I just lost my belt for fucks sake! I'm not thinking about a rematch right now I'm thinking about what I should have done differently, and the answer is I should've had a better game plan for his clinch attack. But now that I'm thinking about it I want that rematch, and I plan on destroying Da Silva in it to make an example outta him.

Grace - Good to hear you talk like that Vitor! We'll see what Mr. White says about the rematch request, and go from there. I don't see how it isn't the fight that makes the most sense in the division at this point.

Belfort - Yeah I agree I'm gonna rest up, and get back in the gym asap. I have some work to get done before my next tilt.
