Octagon Insider - An interview with Hastein Ragnarsson Q: You’re coming off a tough first-round submission loss. How have you responded mentally and physically to that setback? Hastein Ragnarsson: Losses are part of the journey, but I don’t dwell—I rebuild. That fight exposed something, and I’ve been grinding non-stop to tighten up every hole in my game. I didn’t take time off. I got right back in the gym, humbled but hungry. If anything, that loss lit a fire under me. Now someone else has to pay for it. Q: Warren Ramirez won his last fight via first-round submission. Does his grappling pedigree concern you going into this matchup? Hastein Ragnarsson: I respect his submission game—he’s slick, fast, and confident on the ground. But I’m not the same fighter who got caught last time. He can try to drag me into deep waters, but I’ve grown gills since then. If he wants to roll, I’ll make him work for every inch. And if he slips? My fists are waiting. Q: Have you made any changes in your training camp specifically to prepare for someone like Ramirez? Hastein Ragnarsson: Absolutely. We’ve been drilling nonstop on positioning, escapes, and control. I brought in some high-level grapplers—guys who live on the mat—and made it uncomfortable every day. I’ve taken lumps in camp so I don’t take them in the cage. He’s got a sharp ground game, but I’ve been sharpening my blade too. Q: Do you feel pressure to bounce back with a big win here, or is this just another step in your journey? Hastein Ragnarsson: I always fight like it’s life or death. Pressure doesn’t change that—it fuels it. Of course I want to bounce back, but I’m not chasing hype. I’m chasing dominance. Every fight is a chance to prove that the Ragnarsson name belongs at the top. Ramirez is just the next man standing in my way. Q: Stylistically, what kind of fight are you expecting against Ramirez, and how do you see it playing out? Hastein Ragnarsson: I expect him to shoot early, maybe test the waters on the feet, but he knows where he’s strongest. My job is to stuff that takedown, keep it standing, and punish him every time he hesitates. I see him crumbling under pressure. Whether it ends in one round or three, he’s not making it out unscathed. -
