All we need is Lee Kagawa! - A story of a South Korean fighter on The Island Season 3

( " All we hear is Radio Ga Ga -> All we need is Lee Kagawa " )

Think I might have started this thread a bit later than I usually do when The Island starts but not to worry, I've started one now! I've previously done two career threads in the past for my fighters, both of which were former Island fighters. If you haven't heard of either of them, I'll do a quick summary for you.

Liam O'Connor (10-5), who is currently now signed to Umbrella Corporation, started his career in the very first season of The Island. He went on to win the VIP Middleweight title before losing it to The Castaway. He had a number of rivals during his time on The Island, namely Pan Goatboy and The Castaway. Since leaving The Island, I basically retired him and didn't have him fight for a long time until Scooby suggested to have a tournament for ex-Island fighters and because I still was managing him I decided to sign him up, he won his first fight in the tournament and then it was canned as BEEF was sold by Scooby to Umbrella Corporation. Fortunately, Liam O'Connor was deemed good enough to sign for Umbrella and he's just after losing his debut fight for the organisation and is awaiting his next fight. The jury is still out as to whether or not he'll find success outside of The Island.

Kenneth Omeruo (8-4) has since retired from professional MMA since he left The Island after Season 2. He had great success at the start of The Island but a 3 loss streak at the end of the Season convinced me he wouldn't be good enough to compete if he signed up for an organisation outside of The Island. He and The Can were considered the best Lightweights on The Island for quite some time, that was until a shock submission loss against Billy Hill. He had an eventful time on The Island and got into a war of words with the Chaos owner while signed to them. We're still not sure if to this day the owner of Chaos and Kenneth have spoken a word since their "heated discussion", though I'd guess they haven't.

If you haven't guessed already, my new Island fighter is called Lee Kagawa. This thread will be like the threads I've done for both Liam O'Connor and Kenneth Omeruo. I'll be posting about Lee Kagawa's career, so you'll see smack talk, pre fight interviews, post fight interviews, possibly previews and reviews of his fights included in his thread. I know some of the forum users were fans of my previous threads and so you guys will also enjoy this thread. If you haven't read one of my career threads before, now's the chance for you to follow one of my fighters from basically their creation to their retirement.

To avoid spoilers, do not go onto my manager profile or Lee Kagawa's profile otherwise you'll find out the result of his fights before I've posted them on here.

Lee Kagawa, grew up in Seoul in South Korea, a country known for producing some of top Asian MMA fighters in the world. When Lee first watched South Korean MMA star Chan-Sung Jung (36-12) during his days fighting at Ascension he fell in love with the sport of MMA and looked for a local gym where he could train, hoping that one day he could be fighting professionally like his hero and maybe go on to become a famous MMA fighter in South Korea, like Chan-Sung Jun, Yeo Jae Suk (22-10) and K.J. Choi (25-12).

" It is an honour just being on this Island. I hope to do my family proud during my time on this beautiful Island. I might be small but I can certainly hit hard and if you don't believe me, step in the cage with me, put on your gloves and I'll show you just how hard I can hit. I guess I would compare myself to Chan-Sung Jung if I was going to compare myself to any fighter in the world right now. We're both 135lbs fighters, he's good no matter where the fight goes and it's the same when it comes to me. "

" Two wins out of two so far in QFC. Hopefully I can continue to put my opponents away. I've already received an offer to sign with an organisation here on The Island, at this time I'm not sure if I'm going to sign or if I'm going to fight once more in the QFC. I hope Derk Cult (0-2) can bounce back from his loss and get his first win in his next fight. "

" Training going well. Currently ranked the 78th best fighter on The Island despite only having two fights. I hope that one day I will be the #1 fighter on The Island. My family would be proud of me if I go on to become successful during my time on this wonderful place, my father believes that the spirit of the warrior is within me. It feels like I'm releasing that warrior whenever I'm in the cage.

I like the look of Highland Games. Those guys seem to treat their fighters well and they seem to get a lot of coverage. Though it saddens me that they don't have a 135lbs division. Maybe one day, I'll get the chance to be the star of an MMA event... "

" The lottery of the QFC is always exciting, it looks like Men Tor (0-1) is the unlucky fighter to draw me. I will be going into that cage on Sunday to once more do battle.

I hope it will be a challenging fight. I have not been impressed by the level of competition in my division so far. Both of my previous opponents had to be carried out of the cage following their fight with me. Will Men Tor be the third, who knows, all I know is that I'm going to go in there and do my thing. "

" Only I can say when this story ends. My journey has just begun and this defeat is just a small bump in the journey. This fight was a wake up call to me and I'll be going back to the gym to work on my flaws. "

I didn't actually see that you were hoping HG would get a 135 division back then. Cool that we happened to make one and you ended up here anyways haha.

Yeah, seen that you guys had a 135 division available and signed him up, unfortunately he's been my least successful fighter on The Island. If he loses his next fight, it's going to be an early MMA retirement I think.

" It's been quite some time since I last spoke out, I was in a bad place having lost 3 fights in a row. I was ashamed of my performance in each of the fights and I know I have embarrassed my family in those fights. I hope I have made it up to them with my performances in my past two fights.

In the 3rd round of my fight against Mr Socks (3-3) I just had this feeling deep inside me at the start of the round that I was going to win that fight. The warrior within me just came out and I didn't stop until I was pulled off him by the ref.

That fight, I wanted to prove whoever did the preview of that event wrong. He guessed that I would have been defeated by TKO or KO, against a young prospect in Jaqquard who was 4-0 before he came face to face with Lee Kagawa! I'm pretty sure the writer underestimated my ground skills *laughs*

To be ranked as the 20th best fighter for Highland Games is an honour. I hope that before I leave this wonderful Island, the Highland Games fans will be singing my song and hailing me as one of the greatest fighters to ever grace this organisation."

Now that Don Killuminati has went MIA after being dethroned, Lee Kagawa might be my favourite fighter. Comeback KO followed by submitting an elite wrestler despite primarily being a striker. Lee's a threat.

If Jacob Naankuse beats Ronald Raygun on the 8th, a fight with Kagawa could serve as a number 1 contenders fight on the 14th. Also there's Dan Sten and Men Tor on the 7th. If Men Tor wins and someone picks him up from FAs, that could be an interesting rematch. If Kip Ruell gets another W though that would throw a spanner in the works since Ruell has a win over Kagawa on his current streak.

" It makes me happy knowing that I have the support of my boss every time I go to battle in the Highland Games cage.

A number one contenders fight is one which interests me, if I win that, it means I only have to beat one more fighter to lift the Highland Games Bantamweight title. I have faith in my abilities and believe that I am unstoppable when the beast within me is released."

I'm following your career from up close man. You are most probably one of the most talked about fighters on the Island. Good luck in your career!

" I hope I am the most talked about fighter on The Island for all the right reasons. It's nice to receive support from fellow MMA professionals. Mitch, I hope you continue to pick up the wins and who knows we could be the best fighters in our respective weight divisions by the end of the season. "
