† The Church Of Elijah † Present The Steel Penn Alliance vs The Boondock Fight Team

Ladies and Gentlemen, today we look forward to one of the most anticipated card's in MMA Tycoon history as on July 30th 2010 The Steel Penn Alliance take on The Boondock Fight Team brought to you by the † The C.⊕.Ε. † : Convention Center in Las Vegas. There really is no love lost between these two alliances so let's get down to the nitty gritty and run through the card.

Tie Breaker - James Penn 4-1 (SP) vs Poncho Villa: 7-3 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/pennvillatiebreak.jpg

The first fight between Steel Penn and Boondock is Tie Break bout which was added to the card late on. This bout will only count towards the final score if the other 7 fights somehow result in a draw, (E.g. We win 3 each and one fight results in a Decision Draw)

This late addition to the card is a Super Heavyweight Bout as James Penn representing Steel Penn takes on Poncho Villa representing Boondock.

This one is an intriguing matchup, while on the whole Villa looks to be the more talented fighter it will be interesting to see how he copes with his current injury which he picked up in a recent win over William Wallace. Doctors have suggested he's at least a week away from being in a condition to fight but Poncho Villa is certainly not one to back down from a challenge and refused to listen to the advice of the doctors.

'The Head Honcho' Poncho Villa is a remarkable striker and has currently won 6 of his 7 fights by way of (T)KO, his only decision win came way back in December 2009. Villa's wonderful wrestling ability enables him to keep a fight on it's feet whenever he pleases, rarely does an opponent have any success in taking him down which usually leads to Villa punishing his opponents with devastating combo's and power punching. The only real question mark on Villa at this time is his chin which has let him down in 3 of his previous fights, can Penn avoid the onslaught though to catch this talented big man?

Penn's chances in this one don't look too good from the start but we all know in MMA things are not as simple as the more talented guy always winning."Hard work beats talent, when talent refuses to work hard" once said a wise man and James Penn is certainly no stranger to hard work. Penn possesses a good all round game and if he can catch Villa out or the injury affects him Penn can certainly step up his game to win this one if things go his way. Penn is a talented striker himself who was 4-0 in his career until his recent fight by Omar Ban where he was punished by a brutal headkick. Before that Penn had been making his way through the SHW rankings with some ease, mixing up his attack with punches in bunches and also looking to bring his own muay thai skills to the table with some deadly kicks.

Penn is the bigger man in this fight with around a 25lb advantage over Villa, most have speculated though that it's unlikely to be a telling factor in this fight. The real question will be can Penn catch out the more talented striker due to his current injury problems, or will the talented Villa ignore the pain and finish this one with another devestating knockout?

Fight 1 - Ben 'Fallout' Fallon: 1-2 (SP) vs Albert Einstein: 3-1 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/falloneinstein.jpg

Opening the official card for this blockbuster event is a Lightweight bout between Ben 'Fallout' Fallon representing Steel Penn taking on Albert Einstein representing The Boondock Fight Team. This clash really could go either way.

On one hand we have Einstein with the experience advantage coming in with a record of 3-1 and hasn't suffered defeat since his debut loss back in February to Holden Coulfield. Einstein went on to avenge that loss by winning an emphatic Unanimous Decision victory back in May and is currently on a 3 fight win streak. Einstein is a stand up muay thai fighter who loves to get involved in the clinch to work those razor sharp elbows to the head while wearing down his opponent with brutal knees to the body.

Meanwhile Fallon may not have the record and experience of Einstein as his 1-2 record shows but with his superb boxing he could prove a match for anyone and one clean shot could easily end this fight. Fallon will be the first to tell you he's a different fighter than he was back in May when he suffered his last defeat and is eager to show the world just how much he has improved. The big advantage for Fallon is his ground game, with the help of his Brown Belt in BJJ he's shown a good ability to pass guard and mix up the ground and pound, however the question does remain on whether Fallon has the killer instinct to finish it on the ground as so far in his career he has failed with all of his submission attempts.

Plenty of question marks remain in this fight though and it really is a pickem fight, Fallon may have the superior ground game but with both fighters evenly matched in wrestling will Fallon be able to get it to the ground to the work the advantage or will he just look for the knockout? Einstein has shown excellent takedown defence in his career, defending over 99% of his opponents takedowns! A stat not to be sniffed at. Einstein is expected to look to his usual clinch game but perhaps that could be his own downfall, Fallon has a takedown success record of 100% in the clinch and his opponent meanwhile have not even been able to land a single blow in that time.

In my mind this one stays on it's feet and the wrestling will cancel each other out, Fallon will look for the knockout blow and to use his boxing while Einstein will look to dominate in the clinch, whatever the outcome this has all the makings of one hell of a fight.

Fight 2 - Kato "The Last Shogun" Munechika: 1-0 (SP) vs Jack Siegel: 7-1 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/munevssiegel.jpg

Next up on the card is a Featherweight bout between Kato "The Last Shogun" Munechika representing Steel Penn taking on Jack Siegel representing The Boondock Fight Team in what can only be described as talent vs experience.

This bout features the first real fight for Kato "The Last Shogun" Munechika, ever since his initial exhibition bout people have been watching this guy just get better and better in training and have eagerly awaited for his return to the cage. Watching this guy could be worth the admission price alone, win or lose we'll see plenty more of this guy.

Munechika seems to posses the clear skill advantage and is a very well rounded mixed martial artist but with only 1 fight to his name very little is known about him. Siegel on the other hand is no slouch himself and also holds a well rounded skill set. Some people have suggested that Siegel's primary skill set is just a touch behind his opponent's but what small discrepancy their may be in primary ability he more than makes up for with experience after going 7-1 in his MMA career.

Both fighters began training at a similar time to one another but while Munechika took the slow and steady approach, Siegel just couldn't wait to step inside a cage and test himself against the World's elite on a regular basis. On July 30th we're going to find out who has made the best choice in their career path up until now.

Siegel's game plan is usually no secret as he looks to trade with his opponent and dominate them in the clinch. One of Siegel's favourite weapons in recent fights has been the devastating body shots that he possesses from the clinch, looking to wear down his opponents on route to a decision victory or until the referee drags him away from his victim.

Siegel's only defeat came via decision back in December 2009 where he lost a close title fight back at DFC 47 to Tyler McDrunken which many put down to his opponent's superior cardio as he took the final 3 rounds to edge to a victory. Ironically Siegel has the chance to return the defeat in a rematch against McDrunken just a few weeks ago, sadly it was Siegel's body which let him down again as he failed to make weight and it was ruled a No Contest. Making weight will not be a problem this time though for Siegel as he is really fired up for this fight and rumours suggest he's been working harder than ever to ensure he is in top physical shape for this one.

Moving onto Munechika who has been dubbed 'The Future of MMA' by many in the media we look at how he might approach this fight. Despite 'The Last Shogun's exceptional stand up skills both in the form of boxing and muay thai, he won his previous and only fight without throwing a single strike via first round submission due to a kimura against Manute Bol who has since previously retired after going 0-2 in the sport. That fight however was many moons ago way back in October 2009 and we'll have to see if he shows any ring rust when he steps into the Cage on July 30th.

We know all about Munechika's striking prowess which was evident in a recent open mitt session but the real question remains is that while Siegel has been learning his trade in the cage, just how much work has Munechika put into other areas of his game, we know he can hit but how will he react when it's not just a bunch of sparring mitts in front of him. Siegel will certainly be looking to put this rookie to the test but if Munechika can live up to his potential he could well prove to be a class above the established Siegel. Should 'The Last Shogun' choose not to stand and bang with his opponent he may look to return to his ground game which worked so well in his debut fight where he will surely have an advantage after recently earning his BJJ Brown Belt.

Fight 3 - 'Sly Fox' Mick Lenny: 8-3 (SP) vs Genghis The Mongal: 2-0 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/lennyvsmongol.jpg

Our third fight on the card is a Welterweight clash between 'Sly Fox' Mick Lenny representing Steel Penn taking on Genghis The Mongal representing The Boondock Fight Team in another match up where Experience takes on the Rookie.

The Slyfox has shown some excellent stand up skills throughout his career winning 7 of his 8 bouts by way of (T)KO moving in and out with precision punches and explosive combo's. He also has a certain degree of wrestling which he uses to keep the fight where he wants it; on his feet so he can look for that devastating knockout with his specialist boxing.

Not to be outdone his opponent Genghis The Mongal also possesses some excellent stand up skills. While he may not have the boxing to quite match the fast hands of The Slyfox he perhaps has a more diverse striking game mixing up his muay thai and boxing to keep his opponent's at bay with some devastating kicks and then picking his moments to move in with his powerful hands.

The question that always remains with these inexperienced fighters though is not are they capable of inflicting enough punishment on their opponent to pick up a win but how much they can take and keep moving forward. The Slyfox has a proven chin having never been KO'ed or TKO'ed in his previous 11 bouts other than a Doctor's stoppage due to a cut. Coincidentally though this cut was inflicted upon him by the dangerous striker Hard Puncher who was also a MT specialist, could this be an avenue that Genghis The Mongal explores looking to end the fight with a cut via his brutal muay thai elbows?

It's worth noting that should it go to the ground Genghis The Mongal's BJJ Purple Belt gives him the advantage, I expect this one to stay on the feet though, I can't see Mongal taking him down and I don't think The Slyfox will try to go there having not attempted a takedown in any of his previous fights.

So the question really is can the experience and specialist boxing overcome the inexperienced but more diverse striker when they meet on July 30th. It should sure be one hell of a fight that I don't expect them to leave to the judges, as only two of their pair's combined thirteen fights has gone past the second round.

Fight 4 - Mr Ward: 7-3 (SP) vs Lukas 'Ondas' Onderek: 6-1 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/wardvsonderek-1.jpg

Up next is a Bantamweight clash between Mr Ward representing Steel Penn taking on Lukas 'Ondas' Onderek representing The Boondock Fight Team in a good old fashioned Grappler vs Striker match up.

Ward is a ground specialist and is has just received his BJJ black belt in the last few days after succesfully tapping several of his black belt sparring partners during recent training sessions. 5 of his 7 wins have come via submission so it's clear to see what Ward will be looking to do in this one. His opponent on the other hand has what many believe to be exceptional boxing which he'll surely be looking to use to his advantage in this fight.

Despite Onderek's exceptional boxing he has actually never won by KO, his only victory via strikes coming in a TKO win back in January against Keith Sardine who has now retired from the sport with a 1-4 record. However Onderek has victories by decision and submission including a triangle off his back so it just shows this fighters diverse arsenal and a real determination to win by any means necessary. What it also shows is that he is not afraid to mix it up and change his gameplan depending on his opponent.

One major talking point leading up to this fight is that Onderek's only career loss to date was by submission, going up against a Brown Belt in Mr Ward that could certainly spell trouble for Onderek. As previously mentioned, Mr Ward's gameplan will surely be to get it to the ground and work his jui jitsu game, with his average striking it's hard to see him coming out on top if he does decide to stand with Onderek. I'd have to give the edge to Onderek in the wrestling department too though so Ward getting this one to the ground may prove tricky as Onderek has defended nearly 75% of takedown attempts by his opponent's throughout his career.

Make no mistake about it though, if Ward can hang in there with Onderek and pick his chance to take it to the ground he'll have a superior advantage on the floor and if he gets hold of an arm he might well snap it in two, Ward's 5 submission wins include three kimura's and two armbar's.

Fight 5 - 'Mr Lee' Freddy Lee: 8-2 (SP) vs 'Lukas 'Rampage' Svoboda: 6-1-1 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/leevssvoboda.jpg

Now it's time for a Light Heavyweight clash with a match up between 'Mr Lee' Freddy Lee representing Steel Penn and Lukas 'Rampage' Svoboda representing The Boondock Fight Team where the submission expert takes on a very well rounded fighter possessing excellent skills in boxing, wrestling and grappling.

The key for Lee in this fight will be getting it to the ground and working his excellent submissions. All 8 of his wins have been via submission, including 4 of them in the first round. While both men may be Brown Belts in BJJ I think Lee has the edge on the floor in this one, Svoboda has only succeeded in 3% of his submission attempts and usually looks to use his BJJ to control his opponent and work some ground and pound and wear out his opponent by rapidly advancing position.

Rampage will look to keep this one standing as he rarely attempts a takedown despite his impressive wrestling and usually uses that wrestling to stop his opponent from taking him down defending over 80% of takedown attempts. His BJJ usually only comes into play when his opponent has a rare success in taking him down. Rampage has some excellent boxing skills which has led to 4 of his 6 wins coming via (T)KO usually going straight in for the kill with his power testing the chin of many an opponent.

One interesting area in this fight is that neither man has looked to use the clinch to their advantage in previous fights, could that be an area that one of them looks to exploit a weakness in the other man's game?

Co Main Event - BJJ 'Submission Expert' Man: 3-2 (SP) vs Bob Fwapp: 7-0 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/man.jpg

The Co main event is between BJJ' Submission Master' Man representing Steel Penn taking on Bob Fwapp representing TheBoondock Fight Team in a Heavyweight clash. This matchup is an interesting one because much as his name suggests BJJ Man is a ground expert while his opponent Bob Fwapp much prefers to keep the fight standing and use his impressive knockout power to finish his rival.

Bob Fwapp is currently 7-0 with all of his wins coming by way of (T)KO in the first round including a recent fight against well respected veteran Steve Kenny where he won the PFL Heavyweight title. Sapp hides no secrets in his gameplan but with his tremendous boxing and knockout power he really doesn't need to. It's one thing knowing what Sapp will do, it's another thing stopping it

Fwapp may be at his weakest on the ground but with his remarkable wrestling it's extremely difficult to put him on his back. Most of his opponents's have not even considered standing with him and instead tried to take him down with little success as Sapp has defended 85% of takedowns.

The key for BJJ Man to win this fight is to avoid the knockout power and keep his distance hopefully forcing Sapp into a mistake where BJJ Man can look to take him down. One thing in BJJ Man's advantage is his explosive double leg takedown which has resulted in 50% of his takedowns being succesful, it reamins to be seen though whether or not he can take down the bigger man in Bob Fwapp.

If BJJ Man does get it to the ground he could well have his way with Fwapp who should be no match for BJJ Man on the ground as he looks to improve position and then work his much favoured submissions. He also has a good chin on him which he'll certainly need in this fight but one has to wonder if he's ever been hit as hard as Bob Fwapp will hit him?

Main Event - Jayne 'The Hero Of Canton' Cobb: 6-0 (SP) vs 'C-4' Carlos Rivera: 7-0 (BFT)

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Reider84/cobbvsrivera.jpg

Now it's time for the Main Event of the evening as we move into the Middleweight division for a battle between Jayne 'The Hero Of Canton' Cobb representing Steel Penn and 'C-4' Carlos Rivera representing The Boondock Fight Team in one of the hardest to call fights in quite some time. Both men are undefeated but who will walk out of Las Vegas with their unbeaten record still in tact?

With both fighter possessing equally respectable muay thai skills I have to give Jayne Cobb the edge in the stand up game who's boxing is at a level we don't often see in MMA. Rivera is no slouch in the boxing department himself though that's for sure, if he was against any other guy you'd probably make him the favourite in the stand up department and he's perhaps only a touch behind.

Rivera does seem to have a slight advantage in the wrestling however which in a fight like this could be crucial. This could just turn out to be one hell of a slug fest but with Rivera's wrestling advantage and the ability to choose where the fight takes place he might very well choose to take it to the ground where both guys are pretty even and hold a Purple Belt in BJJ.

Going back to the boxing of Cobb it's quite incredible that he's never been hit on his feet in 6 fights. It's worth pointing out though that most men have wanted no part of the stand up game and have immediately tried to take him to the mat, without much luck though it has to be said as he's defended over 90% of takedown attempts. Cobb will look to keep it on it's feet and use that knockout power which has ended all of his fights so early, his average fight length is just 1 minute 6 seconds with nobody making it out of the first round and his longest fight going only until the 1 minute 33 second mark.

As mentioned C-4 has some explosive stand up himself with 6 of his 7 victories coming by way of (T)KO. Even with an advantage in wrestling he most likely will choose to stand with Cobb having never attempted a takedown in his previous 7 fights. Again like Cobb he's very elusive, having avoided over 75% of strikes thrown at him. C-4 certainly isn't scared of a tough opponent and looking at their histories C-4 has arguably thought the tougher opponent's to date. I expect C-4 to keep it standing and perhaps try the smarter game picking his shots a little more wisely and possibly mixing it up with a takedown to test Cobb's ground game if things don't go it's way.

Don't blink in this one as it has Fight of The Night written all over it and could well decide just who comes out on top between The Steel Penn Alliance and The Boondock Fight Team!

I see us going 5-2 in this alliance war, worst case we go 4-3. We will win this alliance war event.

I wonder what all the haters will say then?

Ben 'Fallout' Fallon: 1-2 (SP) vs Albert Einstein: 3-1 (BFT) : Einstein (BFT)

This one is a toss-up for me. I really see Einstein's clinch game winning him the fight.

Kato "The Last Shogun" Munechika: 1-0 (SP) vs Jack Siegel: 7-1 (BFT) : Munechika (SP)

I'm buying into the hype. The beginning of a very successful career!

Mr Ward: 7-3 (SP) vs Lukas 'Ondas' Onderek: 6-1 (BFT) : Onderek (BFT)

This one should be quick and painless. It appears that Ward's takedowns aren't very impressive, and Onderek will have no trouble ending this quickly.

'Sly Fox' Mick Lenny: 8-3 (SP) vs Genghis The Mongal: 2-0 (BFT) : The Mongol (BFT)

Another one that I could go either way on, but, again, I think the Clinch deficiencies will prove to be the downfall for Lenny here.

Jayne 'The Hero Of Canton' Cobb: 6-0 (SP) vs 'C-4' Carlos Rivera: 7-0 (BFT) : Cobb (SP)

Rivera has been better tested, but I'm going with Cobb here because I think he's a bit more dynamic.

Mr Lee' Freddy Lee: 8-2 (SP) vs 'Lukas 'Rampage' Svoboda: 6-1-1 (BFT) : Svoboda (BFT)

I don't know how Mr.Lee went on the run that he did, but its over.

BJJ 'Submission Expert' Man: 2-2 (SP) vs Bob Fwapp: 6-0 (BFT) (Unconfirmed Bout) : Fwapp (BFT)

I guess this fight won't happen? Probably better - someone might die! :P

So, I got it 5-2 for BFT. I see some fights as fights that could go either way. I think SP's best possible scenario has them win 4-3. I think BFTs best possible scenario has them win 6-1.

the BJJ Fwapp fight will go on no matter what. Bob will finish in the first minute again, and have a week to rest his hands, BJJ man will probably go to a decision, and come into the fight with 30% energy, and get KTFO in 5 seconds

oh, and Genghis will have Rem box and almost Elite striking D by fight night too!
