Jacob Kirwan vs Don Carlos-Clauss

Round 1

Kirwan failed a couple of takedowns and Carlos-Clauss smelled out some choke attempts but never committed. The striking was pretty even but CC seemed to land better combos vs single shots

I gave it 10-9 CC

Round 2

pretty much the same save Kirwan grabbed a takedown at the end and got the back but couldn't do anything with it.

10-9 cc for the striking

Round 3

Kirwan turned up the striking, turning this round to him from me, but more of the same, the two going back and forth with strikes, not much else going on.

I have it 29/28 CC

and the judges score the split decision for CC

Waachiim Spiritwolf VS Marius Zaromskis

round 1

5 minute clinch up. SW initiated most of them and got some takedowns but do you socre just the takedown or do you score the good strikes from Zaro?

I say 10-9 zaro for the cut.

Round 2

SW flurried shots like crazy trying to move in to clinch. He keeps doing that and eventually connects knocking zaro down zaro eventually gets his wits and looks for subs to say in it to the end of the round.

10-9 SW

and then the doctors call the cut over sw's eye as too much and score the tko for zaro

Marcos Galvao VS Travis Marx

This is first of the Bantamweight semifinal fights.

What Bellator has done better than the UFC is really flesh out the stories of their fighters. They really covered Galvao's mother's death and the amount of emotion surrounding it which really makes you think about the fighter.

Anyway comments about the fight

Round 1

Galvao's able to connect with some good rights in countering Marx. Marx is really focusing on the legs with kicks and when they clinch with strong knees to the leg. As they continue Galvao is throwing all power, but is connecting enough where it seems that he's winning. Marx is connecting more but when Galvao connects, Marx looks hurt. Marx clinches up at inside the last minute and they exchange some more knees, marx scoring some beautiful kness to the body before they break. They swing a couple more strikes and the round closes.

10/9 Galvao, mainly because he looked to be doing the damage.

Round 2

Marx gets cup checked early as they get going. Marx takes a few seconds and clinches up. HE throws more of the knees to the legs and body. They break and Galvao connects with a good leg kick thta has Galvao stumbling a little. Then Marx scores a cupcheck. Galvao scores a glancing knee to the head as MArx moves in and then another good leg kick. Marx eats a body kick and slips as tehy conitnue to exchange strikes. MArx clinches up and starts throwing the knees and breaks the clinch with a couple of punches. Galvao gets a leg kick in and eats a good counter punch from Marx. Marx is scoring good counter punches as Galvao throws kicks. They continue to exchange shots and Marx looks for a takedown. They wind up clinched, fighting for position. The two break with punches and its back to exchanges to the end of the round.

10/9 Marx. The counters are really there for him and he's got the clinch game with those knees.

Round 3

Galvao switching to a more counter striking game, and its not working for him at all. He gets maybe one shot or two as Marx continues to land one and two at a time. Marx shoots a takedown after a few more which winds up on the ground for a few second before back to the clinch. Galvao puts some arm shots to Marx's face and MArx hammers knees into the legs. The two start flurrying off shots at the other to the end of the round

This is kind of a coin flip because you can score the connections and Marx wins or you can score the damage and Galvao wins.

I give that last round to Galvao, stealing it at the end, making it 29/28 Galvao from me.

Good luck guessing how the judges are going to score this one.

They all score it 29/28 for Galvao.

I have long believed that more people need to look for leg locks. So many MMA and even BJJ schools limit their training in them that many are not prepared for them. That said it urks me to see guys like this keep coming into MMA. He has striking that reminds you of Royce Gracie circa 1993 and even worse takedown skills. He will mow over many mid to low level guys like all good MMA BJJ guys. But run into a wall as soon as they get someone tough that is half way decent. So many of these Submission guys get into MMA with the same mind set that boxers had back in the 90's. Thing they can get the finish on anyone at any time. That is always in the back of their mind and they dont learn the rest of the game with the attention and focus and determination they should. Its takes 3+ years of their career to climb the ladder and get smashed a few times before they say "i need to dedicate myself to the striking game". By then its to late.

Marlon Sandro VS Daniel Straus for the Featherweight Tournament Finals. Winner will be the Featherweight tournament winner and will get a shot at the title.

The two feel each other out with some single strikes and Straus lands a horrible sounding cupcheck. Sandro starts taking his five minutes. In the intermin they're replaying the sound. So far three times.

After five minutes they're back to it after a touch of gloves. Straus goes outside with his first leg kick and for good reason. They exchange a couple more single strikes and Straus shoots a takedown, moving it to the cage and tripping it down to the ground in side control. Sandro looking for a Kimura and uses the adjustment form Strauss to stand. Strauss still has the back but Sandro uses it for a hip toss. Strauss still has the back, but is out of position to hold it. HE looks for a sub but Sandro is already out. They go back to striking. Sandro tries an overhand and eats a left hand counter for the trouble. Strauss shoots another takedown and has the ankle. Sandro fights it off for a few, landing some good hammershots for the trouble, but STrauss persists, winding up with back contorl in the clinch. STrauss tries once to pick him up and take him down. Failing that he goes for some kness and then looks for the trip takedown. Ref warns the fence grab. Sandro tries to break the arms and scramble but winds up falling down as Strauss looks for the takedown to the end of the round.

10/9 STrauss for the takedowns.

Round 2

Mostly ranged punches to start things off. STrauss gets a decent body kick in and they exchange a couple of punches before he looks for the takedown, winding up in the clinch. They break and its back to striking. Mostly punches. Sandro moves in with a good combo. Strauss returns with a good looking headkick. Strauss continues in the striking success with some good single punch counters. The feints follow for the next minute. They exchange flying knees and Strauss scrambles after Sandro's misses for a takedown. He has it for a second but its back to the clinch, back to the cage, and then back to striking in short order. Strauss barely misses with a left after Sandro feints a knee at the close of the round.

10/9 STrauss for the takedowns, striking not much to go on.

Round 3

Now they start throwing. Both start the round off with a flurry of punches. they exchange a couple more and Strauss looks takedown, winding up in the clinch and then against the cage. Sandr puts a knee to the leg. They break back to the center and exchange a few punches. Strauss has a headkick blocked, but that's some good damage reguardless. Strauss follows it up with a takedown, into the clinch and Sandro tries one of his own, winding up with back control while standing. He's looking for a trip and as STrauss tries to turn in Sandro locks up an armtriangle. STraus defending with the 'answer the phone' defense. Sandro looking for a trip but the cage is in the way. SAndro doesn't want to let it go and keeps working for the trip, slipping the choke attempt on the fourth trip attempt. Sandro has the back standing though, breaking it after eating an elbow. STrauss ducks the next punch and grabs the back, suplexing Sandro to the ground and getting the back with full guard. He scrambles for the rear naked choke but sandro is able to fend it off to the end of the round

10/9 Strauss, the end takedown and strong finish easily scores it for him

That's a shutout for Strauss from me 30/27

Judges score it 29/28 and 2 30/27's for Strauss.
