Imperium MMA Week In Review 8/5/13

 

Hello Everyone Douche McBaggins back here for a quick rundown of the recent Happenings here at IMMA. Fresh off the Heels of one of the biggest events in Imperium History, three champions have risen to the challenge once again. Lets see how these three blockbuster title matches went down last Saturday night.

 

Oompa Loompa def. Mick Gerrard via Rd 2 Submission(Triangle)

 

The First round was all standup with both fighters finding there marks, Gerrard was more aggressive but Oompa was the more precise. Round two starts with Oompa dragging the fight down to the mat quickly, but within seconds Gerrard sweeps the champ and finds himself on top. Gerrard would have some problems here with Oompa's guard though as he just could not find a way past it. Loompa very aggressive from the bottom looks for several submissions switching from Kimura to Triangle with no luck. Finally at 3;57 of round two, Loompa catches Mick sleeping and latches on tight Triangle that forces the challenger to tap, this was a very competitive fight indeed.

 

Bartholomew Roach def. Kimbo Slice Jr. via Rd 1 TKO(Punches)

 

The next Title fight was very fast which was unexpected, with two very good strikers going at it. Roach showed his patience at first avoiding a early Barrage of punches from Kimbo. Roach then takes control of his challenger with solid kicks and punch Combos before finally finding his mark and disposing of another tough challenge. Roach is now looking very dominate at 205.

 

Don Dragon def. Johnny Slicer via Rd 1 TKO(Strikes)

 

In the Main Event Don Dragon was set to face his toughest test to date, in the 24 year old phenom Johnny Slicer. A lot of the MMA world was expecting the Hall of Famer to have some trouble with this one. Slicer started out strong living up to his name as he slices open the champ with a cross early in the fight. From there though it was all Dragon as the cut just seemed to motivate him to break open a can of Ass whoop as he just took over the young challenger. Around the 3 minute mark you can see it in there eyes the "Fire Breather" was out to prove that he has plenty of fight left in him as he ends the night for Slicer at 3;30 of round 1. Johnny Slicer has a very bright future her at IMMA but the champ is having none of it right now.

 

IMMA Contenders 34 at a glance

 

The main event will be a title eliminator for the 205 lb belt. As Eli Crowe will face of with a six fight Veteran of Imperium MMA in Zoltan Soljernitskin. If Zoltan wins he will be the number 1 contender no doubt, as for Crowe with a impressive victory here he may find himself in a rematch with Roach it all depends if he wants it or not.

 

Also on the Card two top contenders at Bantamweigh square off for bragging rights as The Gypsy faces always tough White Sons. Sons is a former Welterweight Contender who has now Dropped down to his natural weight class to make a title run here. Then we have Fan Favorite Mike Myers stepping in to Face Bobby Brady in a battle at heavyweight. Myers has found a new home under the management of Diego Santos and has looked very good recently.

 

Newcomer and former WCF Middleweight champ Nobunaga Oda is set to make his debut against a very game Rafael Amaral. Amaral is 6-1 in his career with the lone loss coming to top contender Gannicus Spartacus. Rounding off the Main Card former 155 pound champ Gomer Jacobs is set two face Una Kemeameahu with both guys looking to get there once very bright careers back on track. This two guys are also from Rival Fight Teams as Jacobs under the Management of Paul Huntington will face Dean Holidays Boy Kemeameahu.

Sadly I'm about at the end of my career in mma, not sure I will still be fighting in 3 more fights. My body and mind just can't take a whole lot more abuse, I just can't seem to get any better in the gym so I know the time is getting close to step away from the sport I love.

IMMA 59 PREVIEW

 

The King Theathre will play host to IMMA's 59th installment. The event, that goes down on August 10th at 6 pm, features

a stacked 10-fight card, topped by bantamweight title bout between long-time ruler Terrance Clam Digger and Lee Kawasaki,

who looks to dethrone the champ for the third time. In the co-main event, Rodrigo Belmonte locks horns with Tiago Renato,

as the winner looks to close in on a title shot. Here's the preview for IMMA 59.

 

MAIN EVENT

BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Terrance "Jackson" Clam Digger (13-0) vs Lee "HD" Kawasaki (12-3)

 

Undeafeated at a perfect 13-0, Terrance Clam Digger will look to make his 6th title defense as he takes on Kawasaki for

the third time. Clam Digger only went the distance twice in his already brilliant career, compiling 9 (T)KOs and 2 submissions

between his professional wins. In his most recent outing, he defended his belt against Kelvin Letchford, whom he dispatched

with a head kick and follow-up punches in the 4th round of their IMMA 54 main event bout.

 

Kawasaki finds himself knocking on Clam Digger's door for a third time. "HD" made his way to another title shot with a pair

of submission wins, over Lyle Willems (strikes) and Fantinaz Del Norte (Americana). An accomplished submissionist, Kawasaki

has obtained 9 out of his 13 wins via tapout, with a knack for shoulder locks: kimuras and americanas comprise the bulk of his

submission wins.

 

ANALYSIS: The champion began his career as a featherweight wrestler and has come a long way into becoming a bantamweight

crusher. He translated the dynamic power present in his ground n' pound to his now diverse arsenal of punches and kicks on

the feet, while further developing his grappling skills. His striking sets up his takedowns beuatifully as evidenced by

his outstanding 77% success rate, which, at 80%, are even better inside the clinch, where he's also adept at sneaking good

shots to the head and body of the opposition. On the ground, he also presents a multi-faceted threath, working for guard

passes and submissions while landing 78% of his strikes.

 

Kawasaki, on the other hand, is much more one-dimensional fighter, but a darn good one. He comes forward until he grabs hold

of his adversaries, dragging them to the mat right after. Once on the mat, he will soften opponents up with strikes in order

to get the dominant position and wrap it up with a submission. While a simple, straight-forward gameplan, it didn't worked

only 3 times out of 15, with Clam Digger being responsible for two of those shutdowns. Can he do it again?

 

PICK: Kawasaki is solid, but he's simply too predictable and too one dimensional for a fighter as diverse as Clam Digger. The

champion opens up his toolbox all over the challenger, scoring the win via TKO and his 6th title defense.

 

CO-MAIN EVENT

LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT BOUT

 

"El Machete" Rodrigo Belmonte (9-3) vs Tiago Renato (6-1)

 

Belmonte didn't had the best of debuts, losing a split decision - his 2nd loss in his last 3 fights - to Luis Garavito at

an IMMA Contenders card. Now, the promissing Bolivian looks to right his ship and grab his first win within the promotion.

A heavy-handed striker, "El Machete" obtained all of his 9 wins by way of technical knockout.

 

Since losing his very first pro fight, Tiago Renato has rattled of six wins in a row. The Brazilian muay thai machine has

fists and shins loaded with dynamite, as he demonstrated in icing five straight opponents before winning a decision over

Frank Syn in his last outing, back at IMMA 54.

 

ANALYSIS: Belmonte is a more measured striker, who likes to come forward behind single, straight punches before throwing a combination or hard kicks to the legs, body and head of his opponents. He has solid takedown defense and has displayed solid scrambling abilities when taken down.

 

Renato works on a similar note, but with a few tweaks. He makes much more extensive use of leg kicks in his attack, and he

tends to aim his punches more towards his opponent's ribcage than Belmonte. The biggest difference is Renato's ability to

switch gears and dive in for takedowns, scoring 75% of those - surprisingly good success rate for a striker. Once on top,

he is content to work the ground n' pound from guard, but will take the occasional guard pass if it's there.

 

PICK: With fighters with similar skillsets, it all comes down to gameplanning and intangibles such as chin, power and smarts.

Renato definetely has the edge on power, and he has shown superior defense throughout his career. He can also use takedowns

to steal close rounds, making him a slight favorite for this bout. He takes it by decision or KO.

 

WELTERWEIGHT BOUT

 

Niku Taku (5-0) vs "ZiZou" Danny Zamora (6-3)

 

Undefeated in 5 fights as a pro, Niku Taku looks to continue his climbing of the welterweight ladder following a sucessful

IMMA debut, where he earned "Submission of the Night" honors for his 56-second armbar of Milo Talon. Taku has obtained

a majority of his wins by submission. Taku utilizes constant pressure with takedowns, looking to take the fight to the mat

and to set up his strikes. The ground game is his bread and butter, and he will look to land his strikes while working for

a fair amount of submissions.

 

Danny Zamora is currently 1-1 under the IMMA banner, forcing Sonny Boom to tap out to strikes in his debut, and being TKOed

himself by Zander McGuire in his last bout, at IMMA 53. A competent striker, Zamora likes to stick out his jab and straight

and dig in good leg kicks to his opponent's tighs. He also has deceptively good takedowns, and can transition well once on

the ground while landing ground n' pound at a good rate.

 

PICK: Zamora is the more diverse and dynamic fighter. He keeps it standing and peppers Taku with shots until he goes down,

midway into the 2nd round.

 

HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT

 

"L'Enrage" Mad Dog Vachon II (5-2) vs "The Hammer" Tony Sleving (4-1)

 

Since joining IMMA, Vachon II has scored a pair of technical knockout wins, first trampling James Hemingway and then dispatching

Cloud Strife at IMMA Contenders 29. He likes to use his striking to get into clinch range, where he's adept at bullying opponents

with punches before dragging them to the canvas, where he works heavy ground n' pound.

 

Sleving brings a 4-fight winning streak to his 2nd IMMA showing, with 3 straight TKO wins. In his most recent outing, he

showcased his trademark boxing skills and volume striking in dismantling Andreas Metzger in the 1st round of their IMMA

Contenders 29 encounter.

 

PICK: Sleving has the wrestling to deny most of Vachon's takedowns, as well as the BJJ to return back to his feet if he needs to. On

the feet, his boxing will be just too much for Mad Dog. "The Hammer" wins by TKO.

 

UNDERCARD

 

Super Heavyweight bout - James Hettfield (7-5) vs "The Giant" Andre Roussimoff (6-4, 1 NC)

 

Hettfield made his IMMA debut back at TMMA 43, where he challenged Gordus Clay for his super heavyweight title, ultimately

being stopped on first-round punches. He then proceeded to score the lone submission win on his record, tapping out Rickson

Gracie with a kimura, only to be defeated by Joe Ball in his following fight.

 

Roussimoff was also set to debut against Gordus Clay, but last-minute visa issues kept him from competing, thus prompting a

No Contest. He lost his next two bouts, bouncing back and scoring his first IMMA win against Saint Nick, a submission due

to an arm triangle choke, back at IMMA Fight for the Troops 2.

 

PICK: Hettfield should be able to avoid the dangerous clinch game of Roussimoff and strike him out in the open, where he

holds a distinct advantage. Hettfield takes it by TKO.

 

Bantamweight bout - Martin Phillipe Njewel (6-4) vs Jake "Toquinho" Palhares (8-4)

 

Cameroon's Martin Phillipe Njewel currently boasts a 2-1 record inside IMMA's cage, with two knockout wins (versus Manga Rosa

and Seth Duplesris) and a quick submission loss to Phrisbee O'Reilly. Njewel obtained all but one of his pro wins by way

of KO or TKO.

 

"Toquinho" Palhares made his IMMA debut way back in the WOTLA days, and compiled a 2-3 record overall, with both of his wins

earning "Submission of the Night" honors. A Brazilian jiu jitsu purple belt, Palhares authored 6 submissions in his career as

a pro.

 

PICK: Palhares is a dangerous submissionist, but Njewel holds the advantage in every other aspect of the game. Look for him

to utilize his striking to deck Palhares midway into the first round.

 

Middleweight bout - Rodrigo "T-Rex" Oliveira (7-4-1) vs "Paratrooper" Diogo Pontes (8-7)

 

After piercing a 4-fight winning streak, Oliveira was on the fringe of title contention until a salvo of punches from Ryan

Baxter pulled him back down the ladder. Since then, "T-Rex" went 1-1, submitting Julian Assange with a triangle choke before

suffering another setback to Dexter Morgan. Oliveira has good boxing, dangerous knees in the clinch and slick jiu jitsu.

 

Diogo Pontes debuted with a win over Franco Schiraz, but since then, he couldn't find his rhythm, suffering three straight

(T)KO losses. "Paratrooper" boasts good wrestling and a dangerous submission game, finishing all of his 8 victims with

submissions.

 

PICK: This could get real interesting if it goes to the ground. However, the most likely outcome sees Oliveira stuffing

Pontes' shots and peppering him with punches and knees en route to a stoppage.

 

Lightheavyweight bout - Rock "Hurricane" Lee (9-9) vs Dmonray Flauta (8-6)

 

Lee turned a couple of eyeballs in his IMMA debut, where he submitted Pepper James with an exquisite second-round kneebar.

Despite losing his next effort to Jimy Jameson, the "Hurricane" bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Alen Milosevic.

Lee is more confortable on the ground, having 3 submission wins on his record.

 

Flauta quickly rose to title contention following his TKO win over Bernard Shamrock, back at TMMA Contenders 12, but failed

to dethrone then-champ Oliver Twist. Since then, he went on to lose his next 3 bouts, suffering a (T)KO on each one of them.

Now, he looks to get back on track and showcase his dangerous ground n' pound, responsible for the 8 technical knockout

wins on his record.

 

PICK: To implement his stronger asset, Flauta needs to go right into Lee's wheelhouse, which should no doubt provide some

fireworks for the fans, with one man trying to score a knockiout on top while the man on the bottom looks to secure a submission.

It's a pretty even, but Flauta should be able to avoid submissions and punch his way to a win.

 

"Bk Bk" Bk Bk (9-6) vs "Dá-lhe Porco" Nunca Subestime O Palmeiras (9-13)

 

Bk is another fighter who falls into the "needing a win" category, having recently lost his last three bouts. The BJJ ace,

who boasts 6 submissions among his 9 wins, is yet to get a W inside the IMMA cage.

 

Palmeiras snapped a 5-fight losing streak right before his IMMA debut, where he was strangled by a Jimmer Octopulus triangle

choke in the opening round. A jack-of-all-trades, Palmeiras stronger suit is his Brazilian jiu jitsu, as he holds a majority

of his wins by submission.

 

PICK: This fight will go to the ground at some point, and Bk is the more decorated grappler. He takes a decision or a late

submission win.

 

Lightweight bout - Axe Hammer (5-9) vs "Corazón de León" Dan Simler (6-7)

 

Hammer is fresh off of his IMMA debut, where he was knocked out by Nate Kingston early in the second round. A potent striker,

Hammer has obtained 4 out of his 5 wins by knockout. He can't seem to take as much as he can dish out, though, suffering

6 knockouts in 9 losses.

 

Simler has a single TMMA win, a decision win over Wanderlei Menezes, sandwiched between three losses, a decision loss to

Mitchell Hobson and two submission defeats Wil Williams and Apo Abukay. "Corazón de León" also has decent power in his hands,

scoring knockouts in 4 of his 6 wins.

 

PICK: In a bout that will be mainly contested on the feet, Simler's chin is more likely to hold up. He scores a technical

knockout midway into the second round.

IMMA 60 Preview

 

Hello, fight fans! I'm Rodrigo Oliveira bringing you a special guest preview for IMMA's 60th show. To celebrate the

milestone, my friend Butch Harris has put together one hell of a 10-fight card, headlined by two title fights. Below

is a preview of what is about to go down at the King's Theatre on August 17th.

 

MAIN EVENT

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Kenny "Mysterion" McCormick (8-2) vs "The Pissed One" Yuri Nate (15-2)

 

The main event of the evening features a middleweight championship bout between Kenny McCormick and Yuri Nate.

 

McCormick, who captured the belt after a 5-round "Fight of Night"-award winner effort against Johnny Freedom, will

look to make his first title defense as he puts his 4-fight winning streak on the line against Nate. McCormick, who

obtained half of his pro wins by knockout or technical knockout, went the distance in 3 of his last 4 wins.

 

The challenger, Yuri Nate, grappled his way into title contention, besting Jeremy Ring, Gonna Spanked and Gannicus

Spartacus inside the IMMA cage, extending his winning streak to an impressive five in a row. A grappler by default,

Nate has finishes in 11 of his 15 wins, with 9 (T)KOs and 2 submissions. He is yet to finish an opponent under the IMMA

banner.

 

ANALYSIS: McCormick is a kickboxer who likes to pick apart his opponents utilizing volume striking, flinging single shots

and kicks to the legs and body with decent, but less-than-stellar accuracy. When trapped in the clutches of his opponents,

he usually punches his way out of it, returning to striking range. McCormick's most reliable scoring tools are his leg

kicks, which he throws often and with a 67% accuracy rate.

 

Nate, on the other hand, preffers to grapple. An exceptional wrestler with a brown belt in BJJ, he uses his serviceable

striking mainly to mask his takedown attempts. Where he really shines, though, is in the clinch. From close quarters, the

Mexican bullies his opponents with short, snapping punches and throws them around, landing a whopping 83% of his attempted

takedowns. Once on the ground, he will knife through guards and rain down strikes, averaging 18 strikes per fight with a

64% success rate. If the submission is there, he will take it as well.

 

PICK: Both men have glaring fouls that could be exploited by each other: McCormick has looked fairly vulnerable in the

clinch, while Nate has proven not that difficult to hit, especially by kicks. It's a pretty even fight that will come

down to each fighter's ability to develop and implement a good gameplan: The champion can win by picking his shots and

staying on the outside, but the challenger can definetely score a minor upset by repeatedly taking the fight to the clinch

and to the ground. McCormick is a small favorite though. He retains his belt after a hard-fought decision.

 

CO-MAIN EVENT

LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Umberto Sotto Jr (9-4) vs "The Wolf" Alexander Orlov (9-0)

 

Coming up next, we have another title affair, this time in the lightweight division, as knockout artist Sotto Jr looks

to defend his belt against undefeated challenger Orlov.

 

Newly crowned champion Umberto Sotto Jr looks to make his first title defense in the night's co-main event. After losing

in his IMMA debut, Sottor Jr bounced back to score a pair of striking-induced stoppages, forcing Allen LeFleur to quit

under strikes and then forcing the referee to separate him from Christopher Bisne in the 2nd round of their IMMA 54 title

clash.

 

Few man were able to wear championship gold while undefeated and Alexander Orlov will look to do just that, keeping his

record at a perfect 10-0 while adding a nice golden piece of hardware to his trophy case. "The Wolf" made his way to

title contention with a decision win over Vitali Popov, a highlight reel finish over Chuck Norris with a flying knee and

another decision win over Ali Basra.

 

ANALYSIS: Sotto Jr is primarily a boxer, displaying good accuracy with his punches and beautiful body work throughout his

career, but he also added other tricks to his striking arsenal as a mixed martial artist, possessing wicked head and body

kicks, which land an impressive 71% of the time. Sotto Jr, obviously, prefers to work out in the open, being averse to

any form of grappling - a trait he shares with the challenger.

 

Although he doesn't possess the show-stopping power of Sotto Jr, Orlov has won a majority of his fights by (T)KO (6 out of

9) and is a more technical and diverse striker, relying primarily on his Muay thai. He mixes up punches and kicks to various

levels. He's agressive and looks to overwhelm his opponents with sheer volume, raining down fists, shins and knees all

over the place. Like Sotto Jr, he does have solid takedown defense, but that probably won't be a factor in this fight.

 

PICK: While Sotto Jr has the edge in boxing and the power to make it a serious threath, he's facing a more technical, refined

striker in Orlov, who also has the better chin - the champion has been knocked out in 3 of his 4 losses. "The Wolf" will

also be coming in with a decent height and reach advantage, further enhancing his kicking game and making knees in the clinch

easier to land. Orlov snatches the belt via TKO in the 4th.

 

LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT BOUT

 

"Smooth" Ben Barnes (8-2) vs Harry Pigeon (9-4)

 

Barnes, who fought all of his career in IMMA, reached top contender status in the lightheavyweight division after carving

a 5-fight winning streak with 3 technical knockouts to his credit, but came up short against champion Bartholomew Roach.

He has since bounced back to defeat Oliver Twist via decision, and looks to extend his win streak to two in a row. A well-

rounded striker, Barnes typically engages and finishes punch combinations with leg kicks, but he truly shines in the clinch

where he can be devastating with knees, elbows and punches. All but one of his stoppages came as a result of a solid knee

strike.

 

Pigeon is undefeated since joining IMMA, as he stopped Dmonray Flauta with a brutal combination at IMMA Contenders 24 before

scoring a TKO over Oscar Payne at IMMA 54. The Canadian utilizes solid wrestling to keep fights vertical, where he lets

his fists fly. Out of Pigeon's 9 wins, 6 came by way of knockout or technical knockout, but he also has a pair of submissions

under his belt.

 

PICK: If this stays standing, Barnes will have a slight advantage, utilizing his kicks and superior clinchwork to pick Pigeon

apart. However, the 27-year-old Osceola,ON native can mix things up by changing levels and going for takedowns. On the ground,

his superior submission skills will definetely put him ahead. Pigeon takes it by decision.

 

 

LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT

 

Mark "MD 20/20" Deeney (11-3) vs Tommie "The Shot" Gunn (7-3-1)

 

Deeney is 2-1 inside the IMMA cage, besting Kyell Gold (TKO due to knees) and Una Kemeameahu (unanimos decision), with Ali

Basra being responsible for his only setback. The Muay thai specialist likes to dart in and out of striking range, racking

up points with well-placed punches and chopping low kicks, but he truly shines in the clinch, where he employs a soul-sapping,

knee-heavy offense. Despite not being known as a finisher, Deeney has 4 technical knockout to his credit.

 

Gunn fought for IMMA his whole career, going 7-3-1 as a pro. "The Shot" has hit a roadblock of sorts, going 0-2-1 in his

last outings, being defeated by Sebasti Alvarez and Harry Slater and fighting Saul Alvarez to a draw. A well-rounded fighter,

Gunn scores mainly with jabs and slapping leg kicks, also setting up his takedowns, leading to an excellent 43% success rate.

Once on the ground, he works hard to advance position while peppering his opponents with high-volume ground n' pound.

 

PICK: While Deeney will make a fight out of it, Gunn has a sizeable advantage in the wrestling and BJJ departments, and

he will repeatedly ground "MD 20/20" down en route to a unanimous decision win.

 

UNDERCARD

 

Lightweight bout - Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (7-4-1) vs "Krokofant" Knut Ludvigsen (6-2)

 

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has had mixed results since signing with IMMA, with one win (KO over Umberto Sotto Jr), one loss

(TKO to Sebasti Alvarez) and one draw (versus Tommie Gunn). Alvarez is an excellent boxer who adds to his proficient punching

with excellent kicking, resulting in 4 out of his 7 wins coming by way of KO or TKO.

 

Knut Ludvigsen is fresh out of his IMMA debut, where he stopped Renato King on third round punches. An elite wrestler with

a diverse skillset, the "Krokofant" is no slouch on his feet, landing with 80% of his head punches before ducking down to

finish 50% of his takedowns. He's an absolute beast on the ground, landing 73% of his ground n' pound while fishing for

submissions.

 

PICK: Ludvigsen has the stand up to hang with Alvarez long enough to get the fight to the ground. Once there, it's a wrap. He

takes the win by TKO or submission late in the first round.

 

Bantamweight bout - Lyle Willems (11-4) vs "Lady Killer" Kelvin Letchford (8-3)

 

Lyle Willems has gone 2-1 in IMMA fights so far in his run, getting the best of Akiyama Shinichi and Jake Palhares while

being on the losing end against Lee Kawaski. A big bantamweight, Willems charges forward behind flailing punches, often throwing

a takedown or two into the mix. He can do well wherever the fight takes place, displaying good work in the clinch as well

as good guard passes, accurate ground n' pound and the ability to submit people.

 

Letchford beat Bart Maniac and Vyacheslav Fedotov en route to his title shot against Terrance Clam Digger, but fell short

in his bid to unseat the reigning champ. Letchford likes to punish his opponents with leg kicks, averaging an absurd 50

per fight, while landing 76% (almost 39) per fight. His kicks in general are his best weapons, but he also has tight, crisp

boxing, landing a very good amount of his punches to the head and torso.

 

PICK: This bout will be vastly contested on the feet, and Letchford will capitalize on Willems' wild striking, punishing

him with counter punches and thudding leg kicks throughout, winning by unanimous decision or late TKO.

 

Lightweight bout - "The Atomic Weapon" Alexander Hodgins (8-5) vs Virgil Keller (6-4)

 

Hodgins put together a nice 3-fight winning streak, sandwiched between a loss in his debut and a loss in his last outing, a

title bout against Sebasti Alvarez. "The Atomic Weapon" has finishes in 75% of his wins, with six TKOs and 2 submissions

under his belt. Hodgins loads up on his strikes, leading to poor accuracy but good damage done - he has a particularly good

head kick. He's also a pretty capable grappler, capable of finishing fights on the ground both with ground n' pound and

submissions.

 

Keller is 1-1 under the IMMA banner, dropping a decision to Jonathan Payet before viciously knockint out Zach Didion at

IMMA Contenders 29. Like Hodgins, he's also a wild brawler, possessing thunder in his fasts, with 3 of his KO wins coming in

less than a minute. Keller is also pretty hard to finish, with all of his four losses coming by way of decision.

 

PICK: Keller has the wrestling to negate Hodgins' grappling advantage and the power to put him away. He takes it by knockout.

 

Super Heavyweight bout - Tony Owl (7-5-1) vs "The Universal Soldier" Luc Devreaux (6-4)

 

Owl lives and dies by the sword, with his four fights inside the IMMA cage ending by knockout or technical knockout - with 2 wins

and 2 losses. As a 7'3" tall, 320-pounds behemoth, it's no wonder that all but one of Owl's wins came by knockout, with just

one of those happening in the second round. On the downside, he was knocked out three times already and, as a BJJ white

belt, submitted twice as well.

 

Devreaux is a leaner super heavyweight, but he also has fight-ending power in his fists, shins and knees, obtaining all of

his wins by knockout or technical knockout. The 23-year-old is also a capable wrestler and grappler, landing

with a good amount of his ground strikes.

 

PICK: Devreaux has a clear path to victory here and that is taking the fight to the ground. He has the wrestling chops to

do it, and should probably win by TKO in the first round.

 

Bantamweight bout - Zachary Mendoza (12-6) vs "Jose" Joonas Mustonen (13-8)

 

Knockout artist Zachary Mendoza is set to make his IMMA debut in the night's undercard. At just 23-years-old, Mendoza already

has a wealth of experience under his belt, with 18 fights as a pro already. The Pittsburgh-native moves forward and throws

down with reckless abandon, slinging multi-punch combinations with murderous intent. Mendoza obtained 9 out of his 12 wins

by KO or TKO.

 

Mustonen is also making his promotional debut looking to get back on his winning ways - he lost 3 out of his last 4. "Jose"

is a bit more well-rounded than his opponent, making good use of his wrestling and jiu jitsu in obtaining six wins by

submission. He needs to fight more cautiously though, as Mendoza certainly has the power to get to his chin.

 

PICK: Mendoza should be able to stuff enough takedowns to force a standup battle, where he will catch Mustonen with something

meaningful and put him away.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. With a lot of hype surrounding Imperium MMA - Los Angeles as of late, they decided to upgrade and higher a proper preview writer. So here I am, bringing you the IMMA Contenders 35 preview.

Expecting to sell out the Hard Knocks arena in L.A, this is going to be one hell of a card. With some of the top contenders from around the globe competing on this card, expect some serious action. I am Jax Rostenkowski and it’s TIMEEEEE.

 

Main Card.

 

Jake Bulletv Jukebox Timebmb– 185 lbs – Main Event.

 

Jake Bullet is a new signing for Imperium and what an impressive one! Currently 7-1 in his MMA career, Jake has quickly gained a reputation for being a hard hitting K.O artist. With his last four fights all ending in (T)KO losses for his opponents.

 

Braving the punching power of Jake is Jukebox Timebmb. Jukebox couldn’t be any different from Jake is he tried. Having took nine fights in Imperium MMA and achieving a record of 6-3, experience may be a factor in this fight. With 6 wins out of 10 coming by way of submission, it is pretty obvious that Jukebox is an exceptional BJJ practioner.

 

This is a pretty clear cut fight, Jake will look to keep this standing and use his Boxing and Muay Thai skills to end another fight with his brutal hands. Jukebox once again is the opposite, he will try to use his wrestling to takedown Jake and then use them exceptional BJJ skills to submit him. No matter what happens, I don’t see this fight going the distance!

 

Zander McGuirev Slim Crowe – 170 lbs – Co Main Event.

 

Holy mother of Jesus! What a fight! Zander McGuire vs. Slim Crowe has the potential to be an epic fight which will get every fan of MMA on their feet! With both guys pretty much similar in all aspects of the game, it should be a pretty even fight. With both guys looking to keep in standing in their previous fights will they go the same route this time? Both fighters are on impressive win streaks and will no doubt be looking at this fight to catapult them into title contender status.

 

Kevin Durantv Preston Leopold Bootyshanks The 3rd – 170 lbs.

 

For some reason, I can’t help but looking at this fight and thinking Preston Leopold Bootyshanks is gunna murder Kevin Durant. Maybe I am being biased, but hey – I’m only human. Both fighters have amazing ground skills, but will that play a factor in this fight or will they look to mix it up? I doubt Kevin will. He seems very one dimensional and for that reason I think Preston will look to utilize the power in his hands and put Kevin to sleep.

 

Sub Norrisv Roberto Rodriguez – 145 lbs.

 

For the fourth fight of the evening, it seems we have another fight which will end in submission. Between both fighters they have amassed 19 submissions wins – which is very impressive. With 24 fights already under his belt at the age of 24 Sub Norris is not short of experience. Will that play a factor in being able to control the older opponent and show him how to sub an opponent? No doubt Roberto will try to show Sub that the Spanish are better are BJJ. Only time will tell, but I am sure it will be a good fight for you ground fans.

 

Carl Panzramv Milo Talon – 170 lbs.

 

Both fighters are looking to get back on track from some losses in their latest couple of fights, so I am sure both of these KO specialists will look to prove they’re truly contenders and can hang in Imperium MMA. Both fighters have 8 (T)KO victories apiece and 2 losses by way of (T)KO so Butch Harris has done a magnificent job setting this up. Once again, this fight will be packed full of action and I doubt it will go the distance with both fighting having lethal hands and chins which are far from granite.

ARVO LAAR has taken to twitter and started a grass roots campaign to be nominated for the imperium hall of fame. he is saying "i have more fights than any of those guys except one, and he's like 10 years older than me. so my experience at such a young age makes me the obvious choice as the hall of fame inductee".

 

his twitter has over 130 followers and he has started a facebook page dedicated to the cause with 20 likes already! (he just started it this morning).

 

also GOMER JACOBS has come out as saying he deserves to be in the hall of fame because he is a former champion, and people should recognize his early accomplishments.

 

TSHERING WANGCHUCK has stated he does not give "a wet fart" about the induction and knows he's the best in this whole org by like a "giant ass margin... cause all these dudes suck". so for him, being in the hall of fame is a little like being "the smartest of moe, larry, and curley". he then stated he is a "shemp fan and his work was underrated".
