EzekelRAGE
Hiddens Potential Ability: +30 to this hidden. Wouldnt be too big an impact, but who knows Age Decline: +30 Could end up with an extra year or two than you wouldve Random: Choose to randomly add 30 and it gives a slight boost. I'm so tunnel visioned at fighter creation, can't remember if this is an option. But would work like aptitude randomizing did. Maybe add and extra +5 or +10 making it +35 or +40 to 3 random stats. Well Rounded: Checking this would add +10 to all hiddens instead of +30 to 3. Powerful enough to make ppl stop choosing the big 3-5? Probably not, least it gives people an option. Stat Boosts Another thing you get to choose upon creation. You only get to check one box though. It would just give you bonus training speed for specifically what you chose. You could add a variety of different fighter types as well. Of course you would have to adjust for the amount of secondaries. Pure Disciplines Boxing Specialist +30% faster training in boxing and it's directly related secondaries (Punches/Striking D) Muay Thai Specialist +30% faster training in muay thai and it's directly related secondaries (Kicks/Elbows/Knees/Clinch) Wrestling Specialist +30% faster training in wrestling and it's directly related secondaries (Takedowns/Takedown Defense/Ground and Pound) BJJ Specialist +30% faster training in bjj and it's directly related secondaries (Subs/Trans/Defensive Grappling/Escapes) Fitness Specialist +30% faster training in physicals (Agility/Flex/Speed/Strength/Conditioning/Balance) Dual Disciplines (Im just gonna list the %, you can look above for what it affects) Boxing/Muay Thai +15% Wrestling/BJJ +15% Boxing/Wrestling +15% Boxing/BJJ +15% Muay Thai/Wrestling +15% Muay Thai/BJJ +15% Miscellaneous (Figured stuff that would be more niche could go here, like stuff for a defensive fighter etc.) Drunken Master - Another randomizer option. Would add 5-10% on top of whatever discipline was chosen. Master of None - Points to everything, maybe 2-4% training boost/gain? Idk. Think that's it, all I can think of right now anyway. You only get to choose one of the above. After looking over the aptitude page it looks like the bonus from aptitudes but MUCH more simpler, just tick the box of how you plan to build your guy and that's it. You could name them like I did Drunken Master. Worst outcome is it slightly speeds up the game i guess. Of course the % arent final. Probably wouldn't "freshen" up the game that much, meh, still something to personalize your fighter with. If this doesnt work maybe giving ppl a small 3-5% total skill bonus which depended on their chosen style. For example a boxer with punches at 120 would get an extra 6pts. Already Made Fighters - Maybe do like you did with escapes/trans or just randomize it for them. 7
Guest
Nice agree maybe add sambo which would be a mix of wrestling and BJJ or even combat sambo which is MMA. Obviously if Mike sees this it wouldn't be created over night but if he's planning on the next big change to the game this should be it. +
igorbyhenikov
This game has changed a lot just short time ago, so i think we should calm down for a while. 2

Guest
Yeah good idea and karate based fighters for example a Machida fighter with the reflex's and counter stats (should be added). Example, Lyoto with his hands down, waiting to pounce on any opening, Bader runs in wrecklessly after frustration (should be a patience stat too), BOOM! Machida lands a straight right to the jaw of Bader and he's out cold. There should be options for karate fighters I think so the game is diverse
MMATycoon
I don't mind adding the boosts to the top section you mentioned. The other stuff though, that was basically what aptitude did and we took that out cos it was too much / too complicated for newbies to understand all these different options. In reality, does it matter that someone trains a bit quicker in some skills than others with that sort of boost? If someone can convince me that makes it a better game then cool, I'll think about putting it back in. It's added variation but I don't see it as improving anything, necessarily. My thoughts on a speciality was that we could have additional specialities, on top of the 4 primaries, so you would do a series of seminars in e.g. Karate, footwork, judo, jabs, whatever, then that would be like your fighter's speciality for a while.

By top section of boosts you mean you don't mind the 4 primary ones? If so that's cool. The other options with different skills mixed was just me messing around. I think the sliders of the aptitude made it look way more complicated than it needed to be. They just click one of the boxes: http://imageshack.us/a/img802/4373/l7l.png Or if you wanted to add a story thing to it: http://imageshack.us/a/img834/8440/r6eh.png Outside of speeding up training not much benefit. Oh yeah, the specialty thing sounds cool.

MMATycoon
Quick Q. If we had one for potential boost, wouldn't everyone just pick that?
Guest
I wonder if, pertaining to specialties, if elaboratig on the hiddens in terms of historical background could be expanded. For example, similar to what EzekelRAGE listed, perhaps for those who are into the long-historied martial arts, an option could be "Trained in a Shaolin Temple from a very young age but only recently left the temple for _____ reason", or "Was highly recruited for (whichever sport) in middle school but always wanted to get into martial arts". In essence, you could allow a background of early training in martial arts having an inteligence advantage, along with one or two other advantages, but the athlete's martial arts intelligene may not be able to be as high as the early-trained martial artists, but may have more physical capability since they demonstrated natural ability. Maybe an expansion on training equipment could also be thrown in, simply for variety. Mook Jong (Wooden Dummy) is quite popular in many martial arts as I'm sure you know and could be utilized. Having a family member like Bret and Owen (RIP) Hart whose father trained them in his basement, could add variety.
EzekelRAGE
Quick Q. If we had one for potential boost, wouldn't everyone just pick that? Possibly. I don't think it would be a problem. If 77% is 0 and 80% is 150. Then they just bump their chances of getting closer to 80%(150), like the other hiddens. Think there is only like a 100 pt different between the two. So they weigh that against the others.
Guest
The potential could be just as much a risk as other hiddens that already exist because there's obviously no way the manager creating the fighter knows the attribute values of the newly created fighter going in. The potential of the created fighter could be so low that even a 30 point boost wouldn't mean much of anything but that would be a decision the manager would obviously have to make. CardiffWanderer
Quick Q. If we had one for potential boost, wouldn't everyone just pick that? It really depends on how potential is actually applied to the system. If it is as suggested by ER then I reckon it would be a wonderful red herring. An additional bonus of 30 points would actually be a really small advantage compared to any other hidden. If the system is different, and the point per potential score is larger then it would have to be at your judgement whether it would be too big an advantage.
