Is steroid use an epidemic in MMA? Or are most of the fighters who have tested positive simply the victims of inept athletic commissions, shady nutritional supplements, and tainted goat meat? After Josh Barnett’s latest chemical misadventure took down Affliction, we decided to round up every steroid bust in the sport since early 2002, when the Nevada State Athletic Commission began testing MMA fighters for performance-enhancing drugs. The results…may shock you.

Is steroid use an epidemic in MMA?
Yes, because MMA is a professional sport. All professional sports (except sports like golf or curling) have heavy steroid/HGH use. It's just a question of motive - these athletes are literally putting their livelihoods on the line, they will do whatever it takes to win.
Or are most of the fighters who have tested positive simply the victims of inept athletic commissions, shady nutritional supplements, and tainted goat meat?
Yes, at least to the part about athletic commissions. They are historically terrible. And it's not goat meat, it's horse meat.

Also, it was good to finally get some proof that Kevin Randleman is, in fact, not human.

- Kevin Randleman, for submitting a urine sample that lacked human hormones, following his submission loss to Mauricio Rua at PRIDE 32. Said NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer: “It was either allegedly non-human urine or urine from a dead human being.” Randleman admitted that he submitted a fake sample because of the large amounts of painkillers and antibiotics he was taking at the time due to a lung infection. He was suspended from competition for one year.

its about time a drug test free competition started...if fighters want to take steroids, wooohoooo bring it on..it matters little if there dicks are small and their tits r big as long as i see blood.

IT appears that even if the fighter is taking roids most of the time the athletic commission le him fight anyways, the punishment comes after the fight not before the fight and that's curious.

They should have let him fight and then fine his destroyed ass.

I agree. Also shoulda had an ad on t.v

start off showing a picture of Fedor, showing a picture of Barnett

"Fedor has never used steroids, he's 100-1 and he got paid X amount of million."

then Josh Barnett

"Josh trained really hard, used steriods, got to fight Fedor, got his ass kicked, got paid a quarter the amount Fedor did, got fined 75% of that, and suspended for 1 year"

Do roids.

it is what it is. I mean steroids will never go away... people will always think they can get away with them. it's a constant battle b/t designer steroids making untraceable drugs and testers finding a way to catch up. I believe that most pro athletes have done more than 1 cycle, after its done... the commission will never tell. so it's really more about timing than whether they take them.

IE Barnett was not going to get caught under the system that CSAC has used for years... but they changed and made Josh the first pre-fight test. so he got caught. had they gone and knocked on everyones door they may have caught more people.

Diaz is suffering the same thing. his routine is to keep smoking until 2 weeks out and stop so he can pass the post fight screen. now they want pre fight screen---2 weeks prior and Diaz can't pass it so he didn't how up. I think CSAC is retarded, this isn't a salaried sport and to try and monitor fighters year round is stupid.

had strikeforce made the card in another state Diaz would still be fighting.

and a lot of them seem to lose when testing positive, that surprised me

usually when they're heavy juicing it's when they know their outmatched against they're opponent and they wanna get that extra edge. It's to get bigger or stronger or that extra boost cuz of who they are facing. They are either outsized, think they'll lose, know they aren't as strong, shit like that.

Hermes Franca/Sean Sherk

Josh Barnett/Fedor

Stephen Bonner/Forrest Griffin

the list goes on. too stoned and lazy. thats not including PRIDE. who knows who got away with what over there. that whole place was on juice lol
