Sisu Fights #21: VIULU versus JOKINEN PREVIEW written by Furious Styles

MAY 24, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Hello good people, I hope all of you are well and are prepared for another exciting night of mixed martial arts action that Sisu brings to you! The Suomi International stadium is packed to the gills and these fans are very loud and anxious, and they have a very good reason to be. The lineup is great and this promises to be a night of hard-hitting action! So without further ado, let's get down to business.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “NRO3” LUU VIULU (24-8-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus OTTO “KOOMA” JOKINEN (35-12-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Well it certainly didn't take long for the inter-Alliance battles that the FinnFighters enjoy hosting to be in the spotlight, and here it is front and center! Both warriors bring a great amount of skill to this fight and Jokinen obviously has the experience advantage, but Viulu has enough under his belt to not be intimidated or outmaneuvered. Viulu is a bit shorter and weighs a bit more, so the physical aspect is similar between the two.

Looking at the history of these two fighters, there's a distinct possibility that this fight will end in the first round because both men have a proven history of ending fights abruptly with their fists! Both men will have to be at their sharpest because the slightest opening may slam the door shut on their consciousness very quickly! Buckle up people because this one promises to be exciting!

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “DOWNFALL” ELIAS EBERHARD (16-4) versus “RAJU” PERTTI RAUTA (40-26) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Eberhard is eleven years younger than Rauta, the wise forty-one year old wise man of the FinnFighters, and this will be a great challenge for both! Eberhard will have to overcome Rauta's ability to manipulate his opponent into doing what he wants him to do, when he wants him to do. Rauta, on the other hand, will have to dig down deep to find the energy and endurance to sustain a steady attack against a potentially very aggressive opponent!

Rauta has a very large weight advantage so he may opt to either clinch to lean that extra weight on Eberhard, or try to take this fight to the ground where he can use that weight to hold down Eberhard and make him work extra hard to simply protect himself. Eberhard has been involved in a lot of unanimous decision victories as of late but has the ability to end a fight quickly. Rauta has a strong history of dropping opponents brutally so Eberhard needs to ensure his striking defense is on point!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: JIA “PIE” O CONNOR (16-4) versus PUBLIC ENEMY (32-18) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The youthful and talented O Connor steps into battle against the old school gangster, Public Enemy, in a battle of wisdom versus capability! O Connor is an exciting young star while Public Enemy has proven himself over a steady, excellent career! O Connor has lost some decisions and was overwhelmed only once, so his confidence is strong, as it should be. Enemy has powerful, dangerous striking ability that can turn the lights out for any opponent in the blink of an eye, so O Connor will have to use his speed and agility to keep Enemy off balance. If he doesn't and Enemy lines him up, that could spell trouble for the young star on the rise!

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: SIMO SILAKKA (23-16) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus MIAMI VICE (14-3-1) of the CONSORTIUM

I guess they're serving some vitamin-filled foods in Miami Beach these days because Miami Vice has a major height advantage for this battle! Vice is going to need every bit of that height advantage because his competition is a very highly skilled man in Silakka who is capable of fighting under any circumstances. Silakka will look to utilize his experience advantage and his tremendous skill to possibly try and tap out Vice! I believe Vice will be very aggressive to use his height advantage to land some punches and keep Silakka honest at a distance.

If Silakka is able to take this fight to the ground then I believe he has the major advantage and may very well force Vice to tap out to a painful hold on one of his longer limbs! We'll see which man is not only more aggressive but also which man may lead his opponent into being overaggressive and opening himself up to a counter-attack which will lead to trouble!

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: ROSS “THE CLIMAX” MAXWELL (26-15) versus ROCKY “GOOD NIGHT” TYSON (11-3) of THE GOONIES

To be honest folks, the nicknames of these two men sound like a rated B adult film, but maybe that's just me! Either way I believe this will be another fast, very hard-hitting fight that could end in the first round with a brutal knockout! Maxwell has the height and weight advantage in this fight, but it's very possible that Tyson has the knockout power advantage, and that can even any odds! If this fight goes past the first round, I'll be very surprised and I'm sure both warriors will look to end this fight as quickly as possible!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE SLAYEY” SIOUXSIE BANSHEES (38-19-1) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE versus HJALMAR “DOKTOR GLAS” SODERBERG (21-8)

Banshees has been in a lot of wars and has earned a great deal of respect in the mixed martial arts industry! The younger, heavier Soderberg, who appears to not like the barber too much, has done well for himself thus far in his career. Looking at the history of these two warriors, I assume that Banshees wants to keep this fight standing and fight for a decision victory.

Soderberg will more than likely try to take this fight to the ground where he has proven a solid ability to lock opponent's up into various submissions that, if they don't defend themselves immediately, will have no choice but to tap! Let's see which of these men are able to impose their will upon the opponent to tilt the fight in their favor.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE PINK PANTHER” BORIS GREGOROVITSJ (10-4) of CONVICTED, INC. versus NUMERO CERO (27-14-1) of GRABTHE.INFO

Physically both of these warriors match up quite well so this will boil down to youthful exuberance versus great experience! Any man who calls himself Pink Panther definitely has a great deal of confidence, and Gregorovitsj should be confident because he has stopped many opponents with his educated fists and feet! I also think his shirt may prove to be very distracting because it's pretty psychedelic dude!

Cero had a very rough start to the beginning of his MMA career but he and his managers stuck it out and he turned things around for himself! He has been able to overcome excellent opponents with unanimous decisions due to his high level of energy and determination, and he'll have to rely upon these facets to defeat Gregorovitsj.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: GREAT TEACHER ONIZUKA (22-13) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE EXECUTIONER” DAVOR LANGERHOLC (17-7)

Onizuka has the opportunity to educate another opponent in the form of Langerholc because he has both the height and weight advantage for this contest! Langerholc will probably try to keep the fight in close where he can take away the height advantage a bit and try to make Onizuka uncomfortable, but that will be a difficult task to say the least! Onizuka will be right at home with keeping the fight standing and will want to keep Langerholic at bay to fight for the decision. Time will tell whether The Great Teacher can overcome an ambitious pupil!

MIDDLWEIGHT BATTLE: “KUUMA” KALLE REINIKAINEN (32-17-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE JOKER” VLAD KERSIKOV (16-5-2) of CONVICTED INC.

The man who wears purple suits and very odd face paint into the ring squares off against a man who has seen it all and done it all! Kersikov has his hands full in this one but then again, he seems to like pain because he smiles and laughs when he gets hit hard, so that may throw Reinikainen off a bit! Reinikainen will look to take this fight to the ground where has a BJJ advantage from what he has shown, so Kersikov will need to keep this fight on its feet as best as possible.

Will Reinikainen be able to play puppet master, or should I say, joker master, and position the odd but effective Kersikov into going to the mat in this fight, or will Kersikov's aggression allow him to keep this fight standing, and possibly in the clinch, where his high energy output may fatigue the older opponent and allow him to secure the victory? We shall see!

MIDDLEWEIGHT BATTLE: STAN THEMAN (31-22-1) of FIGHTERS FIRST ALLIANCE versus “THE SUPERMAN” SIMO SUPERMIES (37-24)

Battle-tested warriors is the theme of this fight to close out the night of action! The purple-haired flat top battles the broad-chested mohawk in a fight to prove who has the more hip hairstyle I suppose. With this much talent and experience between the two, the fight plan for this fight will make all the difference because physically, there are no major advantages for either combatant. Intangibles such as desire, will and heart will definitely be the story in this one!

Well there you have it good folks and I appreciate all of you joining me for this review. The names are becoming a bit easier to understand so I'm getting there, and the action is always fantastic so no one has to every worry about that! I look forward to these fights, especially the ones where one fighter has a great deal of experience over the other, and inter-Alliance battles are always fun to watch as well. Take care, be well and I'll see you at the fights!

Sisu Fights #21: VIULU versus JOKINEN REVIEW written by Furious Styles

MAY 24, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Hey cool kids, I hope all of you are well and you enjoyed the weekend of mixed martial arts action! Wow, what a night it was indeed and no one left disappointed, well, except for those who didn't win their respective fights of course. We witnessed excellent talent and will go head-to-head all night and the results were great, so without further ado, let's get down to business!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “NRO3” LUU VIULU (24-9-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus OTTO “KOOMA” JOKINEN (36-12-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The majority of the Main Event was spent on its feet and that was just fine with everyone in attendance! Surprisingly, Jokinen was cut over his right eye by a left jab that didn't seem to have much of anything on it, but sometimes it's the accuracy of the punch, rather than the power, that can slice a man's skin. Jokinen didn't allow that to deter his game plan or approach at all so the cut was a moot point. After being cut, Jokinen went to work on Viulu's legs and body with solid kicks and timely counter punches, and they slowed Viulu just enough for Jokinen to clinch. Viulu was able to defend pretty well, but Jokinen's knees were the difference as they connected on Viulu's head and body, further taxing his energy and speed!

Between two takedowns and attempted submissions, Jokinen got revenge for being cut by landing a slapping right head kick that opened a cut above Viulu's left eye, which didn't seem to bother him that much, but it didn't help his cause, that's for certain! At the end of the round, Jokinen's corner told him to get back into the clinch where his knees were very effective.

Round 2 went into the clinch and indeed it was Jokinen who was more effective! Jokinen landed effective shots, broke the clinch, landed effective counter-attacks then went back into the clinch though it was Viulu who initiated it, surprisingly. Jokinen cracked Viulu's skull with a brutal right knee that shook him to the core! He followed up with another savage right knee and the referee had seen enough! Jokinen won by way of TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT!

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “DOWNFALL” ELIAS EBERHARD (17-4) versus “RAJU” PERTTI RAUTA (40-27) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Rauta put up one hell of a fight but he simply couldn't overcome the youthful energy and skill that Eberhard brought into this fight! Much to his credit, Eberhard took the intelligent approach and got this fight to the ground as soon as he could, and once he accomplished that, he went right to work and allowed that youthful exuberance to overpower and outmaneuver the wily veteran. The 2nd round, however, belonged to the sage warrior and he put on one hell of a standup fighting clinic in that round! Eberhard showed tremendous defensive skills, both in striking distance and in the clinch, but it was the repeated stuffing of the takedown attempts from Eberhard that set Rauta apart in the round, plus he was able to sneak in a solid elbow and some punches to take the round on the judges' scorecards.

The final round belonged to the youngster, however, as he smartly took the fight to the ground and was relentless with the ground-and-pound attack! Rauta defended quite well for most of the round and was even able to force a standup, but Eberhard's persistence was too much for Rauta to avoid and once down again, the ground-and-pound proved too much for Rauta! Eberhard won via SUBMISSION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: JIA “PIE” O CONNOR (17-4) versus PUBLIC ENEMY (32-19) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Public Enemy looked determined to thwart the momentum that O Connor brought into this fight, and the veteran of numerous battles was able to do that very thing! O Connor was the one who took the fight to the ground, but it was Enemy who took the fight to O Connor! Once he transitioned and took O Connor's back, the vicious ground-and-pound from Enemy really put O Connor into trouble. He was able to survive the round but the momentum was obviously in the corner of Enemy. The 2nd round was a standup affair that Enemy simply dominated, from start to finish! Whether it was striking at distance or up close and personal in the clinch, he was always one step ahead of O Connor and it was obvious that O Connor grew very frustrated by that fact! He began to lose focus a bit and get sloppy, and that allowed Enemy to land some beautiful punching combinations while keeping O Connor off balance with solid head movement and excellent footwork.

O Connor did what he thought was best and took the fight to the ground again in the 3rd round, but he wasn't able to land anything effective while Enemy defended well and was able to land clean, effective, sporadic strikes of his own. Near the end of the round, the referee stood the fighters up and everyone expected O Connor to go balls to the wall to try and knockout Enemy, but Enemy was just too much and coasted to the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: SIMO SILAKKA (23-17) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus MIAMI VICE (15-3-1) of the CONSORTIUM

Crockett and Tubbs would be proud of Miami Vice's performance in this battle! Simply stated, Vice utilized his height advantage very well and prevented Silakka from doing any major damage at any point of the fight. Silakka was able to land some chopping kicks that slowed Vice just a bit, and he woke Vice up with a nice right uppercut, but Vice was sharp in this fight, landing solid leg kicks as well to setup his accurate punches. One stiff left jab dazed Silakka and that was enough for Vice to size Silakka up for a crushing right hook that floored Silakka! Vice earned the KNOCKOUT VICTORY and KO of the Night!

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: ROSS “THE CLIMAX” MAXWELL (26-15) versus ROCKY “GOOD NIGHT” TYSON (11-3) of THE GOONIES

In this fight, the possibility of a good night climax sounded inviting for some of our raucous fight fans, but for Maxwell, the climax he felt wasn't one that would make him breathe heavily in pleasure nor light a cigarette afterward! Everyone knew that either this battle would end with a submission locked in by Maxwell, or Tyson would floor Maxwell and put him to sleep.

Turned out that it was Tyson who put Maxwell to sleep! In the opening round, Tyson sliced open the bridge of Maxell's nose with a stinging left jab that seemed to make Maxell panic and take this fight to the ground, where he became relentless in trying to force Tyson to tap out! Tyson was able to sustain his defensive skills enough to prevent that from happening but it was Maxwell's control and aggression that earned him the 1st round on the judges' scorecards.

However, in the 2nd round, Tyson had enough of the ground game and he knew if the fight went there again, he'd be in serious trouble, so he unleashed with his feet and fists, and not only floored Maxwell twice, but was able to finish Maxwell after Maxwell performed a beautiful back roll and then sprung off of the cage using his momentum! The crowd cheered loudly at the very acrobatic display, but unfortunately for him, he was too dazed to take advantage of the great looking maneuver. Tyson measured him and absolutely detonated Maxwell's jaw with a tremendous right hook that caused the momentum that Maxwell used for the great gymnastics move, then Tyson chopped away Maxwell's legs until measuring him for a savage left uppercut that finished the job! Tyson jumped on Maxwell and pounded him out until the referee stepped in! Tyson won the battle by TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE SLAYEY” SIOUXSIE BANSHEES (39-19-1) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE versus HJALMAR “DOKTOR GLAS” SODERBERG (21-9)

Two warriors who have seen much battle squared off in this classic, and we were treated to a cat-and-mouse game on the ground that proved to be very exciting! Some of the fight was spent in the standup, but that didn't last long and it was on the ground where both fighters felt far more comfortable. Transitions, defensive grappling, thinking and maneuvering were the name of the game in this one! According to the judges, Soderberg controlled the first two round of the fight and I would have to agree with that assessment! He commanded the action on the ground and though Banshees defended well overall, he wasn't able to mount much of an attack in the first two rounds, and the frustration was evident on his face when he went to the corner for the third and final round!

Banshees corner told him plain and simple that if he didn't finish the fight, he would lose! Soderberg did what he was supposed to do and once again took the fight to the ground where he had obviously done very well for the entire fight. Banshees lured in the veteran by using his aggression against him, and when Soderberg went for the big hit from standing position, Banshees caught him by surprise with a quick, tight and painful Triangle Choke! Soderberg fought it as best as he could but he just wasn't able to break out of it and he was forced to tap! Banshees earned the SUBMISSION VICTORY as well as the Submission of the Night honors! Soderberg, disappointed, indicated that he's pondering his future as he believes he has taken a good deal of punishment and it may be time to consider doing something else.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE PINK PANTHER” BORIS GREGOROVITSJ (10-5) of CONVICTED, INC. versus NUMERO CERO (28-14-1) of GRABTHE.INFO

This was a hellacious standup battle that everyone appreciated seeing! Aside from the occasional clinch, this fight was a striking affair that allowed both combatants to display their tremendous punching, kicking, and striking defensive abilities. The outcome of the fight was strictly determined by who wanted to win more, bottom line, and it was Numero Cero who was able to impose his will more effectively and thus, after all was said and done, he emerged victorious by way of UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY! Not only that, but this battle was deemed the Fight of the Night as well.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: GREAT TEACHER ONIZUKA (23-13) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE EXECUTIONER” DAVOR LANGERHOLC (17-8)

Class was in session as soon as the bell rang, and it was Onizuka who educated Langerholc in the fine arts of setting your opponent up for a submission finish! Onizuka was doing very well in the standup despite Langerholc's improved boxing, so Langerholc took the fight to the ground with a lovely counter takedown. He went to work on Onizuka with very effective and punishing ground-and-pound, but Onizuka was not only able to withstand those brutal strikes, but he caught Langerholc being a bit too aggressive, and when Langerholc missed a big leaping punch, Onizuka locked in a tight Triangle Choke that left Langerholc with no choice but to tap out! Onizuka won this battle by way of SUBMISSION VICTORY while Langerholc was left wondering why he let himself get a little wild with that leaping punch.

MIDDLWEIGHT BATTLE: “KUUMA” KALLE REINIKAINEN (32-18-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE JOKER” VLAD KERSIKOV (17-5-2) of CONVICTED INC.

The warrior with the odd face paint and stylish, yet odd, purple suit was vicious in this matchup! One aspect of this battle that the crowd loved is how aggressively these two went at it! Right from the moment the bell rang, fists and feet were flying, teeth were gritted, and each man looked like he was possessed! After exchanging some bone-crushing punches, a snapping left jab from Kersikov dazed Reinikainen, which was a bit of a surprise, and despite his efforts to gather his senses and keep Kersikov at bay, it was a cruel, unyielding overhand right from the face-painted fighter that absolutely leveled Reinikainen! Kersikov won this fight by way of KNOCKOUT, then laughed his odd laugh while running around the cage in a circle!

MIDDLEWEIGHT BATTLE: STAN THEMAN (31-22-1) of FIGHTERS FIRST ALLIANCE versus “THE SUPERMAN” SIMO SUPERMIES (37-24)

On this night, it was the purple-haired warrior who was able to overcome the Mohawk-wearing warrior! This fight had a little bit of everything: standup exchanges, ground tactics, a sample of clinching, and last but not least, blood! Supermies was the one to bleed most, unfortunately for him, as by the end of the fight, the cut over his eye was bleeding freely and definitely affected his vision! Both men put all they had into this fight, no doubt about that, and the crowd showed their appreciation by giving them a standing ovation was all was said and done! Stan TheMan earned the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

Sisu Fights #22: TYCOON OLYMPICS ROUND 1 PREVIEW written by Furious Styles

MAY 31, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, there comes a time in life when epic battles are shown on a mass scale, and the Mixed Martial Arts Tycoon Olympics is that very event! Fighters will be battling like they were the old gladiators of lore against other warriors who are the best of the best! These elite athletes and combatants are the men who do not avoid battles, nor do they seek favoritism! They face all challenges head on and with all the talent and skill they can muster! Sisu Fights is very proud that they are fortunate to be one of the organizations selected to host such an epic, spectacular, legend-creating event! It is my extreme pleasure to be able to report on events of this magnitude and I, like all of you, very much look forward to seeing these events unfold and legends cemented in MMA Tycoon! So, without further ado…let’s get down to business!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: “KRUEL” KALE KUMMOLA (17-4) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus JAMES “LOGAN” HOWLETT (26-5-1) of CONVICTED INC.

Right off the bat we have Champion versus Champion, the tear-drop tattooed warrior battling the Wolverine-esque warrior; two men who know how to go into the cage and finish an opponent! Kale is seven years younger and may very well rely upon that youthful exuberance and energy to try and keep the seasoned veteran, Howlett, off balance long enough to take advantage. However, no one can ever count out the accomplished Howelett as he has seen it all and done it all! He has defeated some of the very best in the business and has had various impressive win streaks as well, so he definitely know how to handle business! Likewise, Kummola has put together very impressive win streaks against great opponents, and he definitely is comfortable battling any opponent on the mat!

Howlett has a slight height advantage in this fight and may try to keep this fight on its feet where has shown great ability using his educated hands and feet. However, Kummola is also very solid with his hands and has been in enough battles to know how to defend against vicious kicks, elbows and knees, so that may not be of major concern for him. Will experience be the deciding factor in this battle, or will energy and aggression tip the momentum? Time will tell but this promises to be one hell of a fight!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: OTSO “SPARTICUS” JOKINEN (59-11) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus ALEXANDRE “THE BUTTERFLY KNIFE” NIETO (25-8-1) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE

Can anything more really be said about the legendary Jokinen!? This man has had more fights than most people have had meals! Owner of tremendous winning streaks, an extremely impressive record, fantastic finishes of all kinds, and a never say die attitude has propelled him to one of the very best to have ever stepped foot into the octagon! Not to be underestimated, Nieto is as capable of making any man tap out in the blink of an eye! He has been presented the unique and exclusive opportunity to truly cement his name as one of the best if he can overcome the Helsinki legend! Nieto will no doubt be up to the task but he’ll have to be as sharp as he has ever been because if he isn’t, the outcome may very well be one that he doesn’t want to experience.

Nieto has a slight height advantage so he may opt to try and soften Jokinen up for ground strikes and submission attempts but that’s a very tall order against a man who has seen a tremendous amount of action! Jokinen is extremely comfortable against all opponents and in all situations, so Nieto will have to try and unnerve the wily veteran or even try to bait him into making an error; something that Jokinen very rarely does. The fans will be very raucous for this fight, I promise you, and Helsinki may very well have a small earthquake due to the people making so much noise all around the city for Jokinen!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLMYPIC BATTLE: KARL “THE HURRICANE” DE GROOT (47-17-1) of the STEEL PENN ALLIANCE versus JAN ZELENKA (19-4-1) of the INTERNATIONAL COCKSMEN

Here we have yet another situation where a very seasoned, accomplished veteran will test his mettle against a younger and very hungry opponent, and these types of battles are always exciting and interesting! De Groot brings championship experience and that is immeasurable in any given situation, so Zelenka will have to formulate an excellent fight plan with his management team and put forth as much as he can into executing said plan!

Both of these warriors have won numerous battles by way of Unanimous Decision so they have no problem simply outworking their opponent, but don’t let that fool you! Each man is capable of stopping an opponent in his tracks in a moment’s notice, but in this particular matchup, I don’t think that will be the case. The fighter who controls the pace and positioning will be the one to emerge victorious because the skill level is too high here for a finish, unless one of these warriors becomes overanxious and opens himself up to a bad situation.

Zelenka does have a sizeable height advantage and has the weight advantage as well, so perhaps keeping this fight standing will be his approach, but his punches and kicks will have to be spot on as De Groot has shown an outstanding ability to defend against strikes. Patience and suddenness will be key in this fight so we’ll see who is able to impose their will upon whom!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: FRANK “FAST HANDS” REYNOLDS (23-9-3) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus TERRANCE “JACKSON” CLAM DIGGER (19-3-1) of AXIS OF EVIL

Reynolds, six years the elder, battles a young fighter who has shown a great amount of talent, ability and knowledge, so this will definitely be a test for the octagon veteran! Physically, at least in height, both of these fighters are basically even, but Digger is much lighter, and that may prove to be the difference in this particular fight. Digger’s speed and agility may prove difficult for Reynolds to deal with, however, should Reynolds be able to take this fight to the ground, that weight advantage may come into play big time and he may be able to control Digger a bit easier by leaning that weight on him. Another scenario: Reynolds may try to lock Digger into a clinch and lean his weight against him in that aspect while landing punches, elbows and knees, if he’s able to of course.

One aspect that makes this fight so exciting is both men possess knockout power and ability, and they have shown that in numerous fights they’ve been involved in! When warriors who battle know that the other man can drop them in a New York minute, that adds intrigue because they either opt to be cautious and more accurate, or they go balls to the wall and try to test the opponent’s chin before their own gets tested! If one of these combatants doesn’t get knocked out, I’ll be very surprised!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: GERARD “EL TORO” ESQUEDA (25-10-2) of LEGION OF DOOM versus AARON “THE ANIMAL” WITT (29-8-2) of LEGION OF DOOM

I knew this would happen and here it is! Alliance mate versus Alliance mate, and these are definitely some of my favorite types of situations because there’s a bit more incentive involved. One of these man not only wants to win, of course, but they also want to have bragging rights within the Alliance and also want to be able tell stories that bust the other guy’s balls a bit at Alliance activities, like barbeques, etc.

Both fighters have basically the same amount of experience but Esqueda is the taller and heavier man, so his approach may be to utilize said height and keep this fight on its feet as much as possible where he can take advantage of that reach and unleash with various punches and kicks. I would assume the opposite for Witt, where he would want to get this fight on the ground as soon as possible in an effort to take hold of one of Esqueda’s longer limbs and manipulate it into a submission maneuver! I have no doubt that numerous LOD members will be right outside of the cage, yelling words of encouragement as well as talking some crap, so this will be a very interesting situation to say the least. Will one of these men be able to finish their Alliance mate, or will they have to battle through five grueling rounds to determine the victor?

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: RANDY ORTON (27-7-2) of FIGHTERS FIRST ALLIANCE versus “FENRIS” FELIX TILTHAMMER (43-19-1)

I wonder if “Fenris” means “I like to fight” in Swedish, because this man likes to fight! Tilthammer brings a tremendous amount of experience into this battle and Orton definitely has to outthink Tilthammer in this matchup! Eleven years younger, Orton may opt to just try and overwhelm Tilthammer with the great amount of pressure and energy he brings to each and every fight, and if that’s the case then Tilthammer will have to rely upon that great experience factor to remain calm under the storm! Tilthammer has shown that his hands and punching power are still something his opponents have to be wary of, even at an older age, because he may not be able to maintain the high energy output he once did, but should he catch Orton on the chin at the right moment, he won’t have to!

Orton was on a fantastic win streak until recent struggles, but that does not remove his ability to stop a fight with one solid shot as well! Both fighters better be primed and ready to defend themselves against a possible knockout because if either of them allows one clean shot, this fight could be over very quickly! Look for Orton to use his size and weight advantage to press Tilthammer and try to end it quickly while standing or even in the clinch!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: “WACKY” ZACHARIAH WAYNE (21-13-1) of CHILDREN OF THE LAW OF ONE versus “SCANDINAVIAN ZOMBIE” BALLARD MAGNAR (19-14-1)

Wayne brings a bit more fight experience than Magnar, but not a whole lot more. One interesting aspect of this battle is neither man has worn championship gold, so for them, this is an opportunity to become the champion they always strived to be! Magnar will have his hands full with the taller and heavier Wayne, but Magnar has shown the ability to knock unsuspecting opponents out, so Wayne can’t underestimate his abilities at any point in time during this battle!

I believe this will be one of the fights where each fighter will have a bit more of a struggle than they would like, but sometimes you have to win ugly in this business, so if this goes all five rounds then so be it! I know each fighter will put all he has into this matchup so there’ll be no lack of desire or effort, but I think the difference will be the man who lands the most effective and damaging punch while catching his opponent in an awkward situation.

WELTERWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: ORPO JOKINEN (13-7) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus KENNY McCORMICK (12-4)

Obviously when your last name is Jokinen, you have more pressure put upon you because of the excellence that has been associated with that last name! I have no doubt that Otso will be at ringside to encourage and inspire Orpo, and having that valuable insight during the fight may prove to be the difference maker! Orpo is definitely very comfortable on the ground and that’s where he may very well try to take and keep this fight for his best chance at victory.

McCormick has shown that he too can be comfortable and effective on the ground, but I would wager that he would prefer to keep this fight standing and at striking distance to where his strong punches have proven to be a weapon that has brought him a good amount of success! Having a distinct height advantage for this battle leads me to believe this may very well be the smartest approach, especially if Jokinen is able to use his reach against him and tie him up in a painful submission hold! McCormick also has invaluable championship experience and that’s something of great worth, especially against a man who trains with Otso Jokinen at various times! Will that championship experience be the difference maker in this matchup!? Time will definitely tell.

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: USKO LUTTINEN (17-10) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus RUFUS SPEED (14-6) of TEAM CONQUER

Luttinen has a championship under his resume and again, that experience may prove to be very valuable in a matchup such as this! Overall experience is in his favor as well, but knowing how to step up under intense pressure is what these Olympics are all about, and since he has been there before, that may allow him to remain calm while Speed may not have that ability.

Speed has earned a respectable record thus far in his mixed martial arts career and has won in various ways, so for him, deciding his best approach and sticking to that approach may very well be the best approach he can take! Despite having the height and weight advantage, I think he may very well consider trying to take this fight to the ground where has shown a solid level of skill with ground fighting that Luttinen may not be comfortable with!

This may be one of the more cautious fights we see because both men have also had a history of being finished, and absorbing punishment through knockouts is not exactly conducive to a very long and successful career, unless you happen to be Rocky Balboa of course! Keeping this fight on the ground will not only allow a safer approach, but being able to control the opponent and simply outlasting him may also be the wisest approach.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: “THE ICEMAN” CHU CHULAINN (23-13) of EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN versus SEPPO HOVI (8-4) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Chualainn brings the age and experience to this battle and for some, Hovi is a bit inexperienced for his age, but that doesn’t take away from his ability in the octagon! Chulainn has the height and weight advantage so he may take the standup approach to this fight where he can unload with solid strikes that could potentially spell trouble for Hovi, but Hovi possesses the ability to knock someone cold and that’s always an equalizer in any battle!

I suspect this fight will be one of the most aggressive and hard-hitting fights as both men have shown their willingness to throw caution to the wind for the sake of finishing off their opponent with brutal punches, so I do expect to see some vicious hits that will test each man’s ability to take a strong punch! Hovi may try to maintain a high level of energy and aggression in hopes he can wear the older Chualainn down, but that will be difficult to do as Chulainn doesn’t need a lot of energy to turn someone’s lights out! I fully expect this battle to end quickly and brutally!

Well ladies and gents, that concludes my preview of the tremendously exciting and fast approaching Olympic events that will have all of us talking for a very long time! As always I greatly appreciate you taking the time to join me on another preview of a Sisu Fights event and I hope you’re as excited about these Olympic battles as I am! This is Furious Styles signing off, and as always…I’ll see you….at the fights!

Sisu Fights #22: TYCOON OLYMPICS ROUND 1 REVIEW written by Furious Styles

MAY 31, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Hello good people, this is Furious Styles on the scene at Suomi International where a tremendous amount of action has gone down and with that action were some surprises that definitely made people gasp! I can’t lie either, because I know I had my picks to advance and some of them didn’t, which threw me off guard, but that’s part of the beauty of competition of this magnitude! The good news is there’s plenty left still yet to come so I have no doubt we’ll see even more tremendous action and some upsets! So, without further ado…let’s get down to business!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: “KRUEL” KALE KUMMOLA (17-5) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus JAMES “LOGAN” HOWLETT (27-5-1) of CONVICTED INC.

Right off the bat we had a tremendous battle between two highly skilled Lightweights, and this fight set the tone for the entire night because everyone saw how intense these two were, and they also saw the great amount of passion and energy they fought with! I don’t know if both of these warriors had a double-dose of 5 Hour Energy, but they definitely let it all hang out! Round 1 was a beautiful, hard-hitting, man-to-man standup war that the crowd thoroughly enjoyed! Both fighters displayed beautiful defensive and punching techniques, but in my opinion it was Howlett who landed the more vicious and brutal leg and body kicks that made the difference, plus his takedown defense was on point! It took Kummola a bit to get going, but he definitely let Howlett know he was in for a fight with some sweet punching combinations and great footwork and head movement as well!

Round 2 was basically half standup and half ground struggles between the two, and Howlett was the more effective fighter in the standup. He was able to land more punches consistently and he tossed in a few savage kicks as well. When he locked Kummola into a clinch, Kummola defended beautifully and was able to get himself together enough to break the clinch and eventually take the fight to the ground, where he looked much more comfortable! He worked very diligently for a submission and defended a submission attempt from Howlett, but he just wasn’t able to lock Howlett into anything solid and appeared a bit frustrated by that.

Round 3 was very much like Round 1, a thrilling standup battle that saw Howlett distance himself on the judges scorecards with accurate and damaging strikes that Kummola seemed to struggle to defend as successfully as he did in the first round. The consistency and persistency of Howlett and his leg kicks began to show as Kummola had a slight limp when standing on his lead leg! Round 4 went to the ground much faster than it did in Round 2 and surprisingly, both men slowed down quite a bit, perhaps conserving strength for the final push in the last round, or just trying to outmaneuver the opponent and not being able to do. Whatever the case, neither man was able to land any serious ground-and-pound damage nor lock the opponent into a submission, but Howlett did control the action on the ground and scored the vital points!

The final round was intense because both men knew that Kummola needed a finish to win the fight, plain and simple, and both men did what they were supposed to do with that situation! Both warriors went to the body early in an attempt to sap what little strength and energy the opponent must have had left, then Kummola managed to get the takedown a bit later. Howlett worked very hard to try and turn the tables on Kummola by locking in a submission, but Kummola had enough left to prevent the tap out, but there wasn’t enough time for him to mount any counter-attack. Once all was said and done, Howlett not only won by UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY, but he also had some scathing comments about Kummola and his being a four championship belt holder!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: OTSO “SPARTICUS” JOKINEN (59-12) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus ALEXANDRE “THE BUTTERFLY KNIFE” NIETO (26-8-1) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE

Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of the fights that was most talked about on the internet and definitely in the MMA Tycoon forums! The outcome of this battle just proved that anything is possible in mixed martial arts competition, and also showed that no one can be discounted no matter what the conditions are! Entering this battle, everyone knew that Jokinen was heavily favored because of his extremely impressive career, but in the end, that was torn asunder by the heart and desire of Nieto! Nieto was like an extremely hungry dog that just saw the most enticing piece of meat he has ever seen! Nieto was nothing short of explosive and incendiary with his approach to taking this fight right to the legend known as Jokinen! Nieto overwhelmed Jokinen with his tremendous intensity, vast amount of energy, and limitless determination, taking the legend to the ground and trying for every submission hold known to man!

Jokinen was able to rely upon his tremendous talent, skill and vast experience to remain calm and weather the vicious storm that was Nieto, but he simply couldn’t find that one opening he needed to slow the tremendous output from Nieto, and in the end, it cost him! After thwarting so many efforts, Jokinen made the one small error of leaving his arm out too long and Nieto took advantage, hooking his legs around it and locking himself in on Jokinen with a very tightly-wound Triangle that Jokinen simply couldn’t shake! Nieto forced the tap out and won by SUBMISSION VICTORY, sending a shockwave throughout the arena! He received a tremendous standing ovation from the admiring crowd! For his efforts, Nieto earned the Submission of the Night honors as well!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLMYPIC BATTLE: KARL “THE HURRICANE” DE GROOT (47-17-2) of the STEEL PENN ALLIANCE versus JAN ZELENKA (19-4-2) of the INTERNATIONAL COCKSMEN

This battle had everyone in attendance holding their breath because they simply couldn’t figure out who was able to outperform, outfight, or outlast their opponent! This was by far one of my favorite fights because you had two proud warriors who went toe-to-toe in a standup war that left everyone breathless! Fights like these are always very exciting to behold! I thought Zelenka’s height advantage would allow him to have the edge in a standup situation, but the nimble movements and sharp hands of De Groot not only proved me wrong but also showed the MMATycoon world that he is a serious threat to anyone in that cage! Quite simply, we saw beautiful techniques of punches, both accurate and powerful, thunderous kicks with savage intent and much to my surprise, not one counter attack!

Actually the only blemish on this masterpiece of a fight occurred early in the 3rd Round, where an accidental low kick from De Groot caught Zelenka in his nether regions, but he was able to gather himself quickly and after a touch of gloves, they continued this awesome battle! I did not envy the judges once the final bell sounded because an argument could have been made for either fighter, so in my opinion, the judges did what was best and ruled this a MAJORITY DRAW! I truly hope these two men lock horns again in the very near future to decide a clear cut winner! These two gentlemen also earned the Fight of the Night honors for their tremendous efforts!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: FRANK “FAST HANDS” REYNOLDS (24-9-3) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus TERRANCE “JACKSON” CLAM DIGGER (19-4-1) of AXIS OF EVIL

I have to be honest folks, I really thought one of these fighters would be cold conked in this fight, but that didn’t happen! What did happen is we sawa Reynolds take the very smart approach to this fight and he utilized his sizeable weight advantage to take the fight to the ground and keep it there for the majority of this contest. Early in the fight it was Digger who was landing the more effective strikes and as I expected, his speed was causing Reynolds a bit of trouble. Digger positioned himself a bit too close to Reynolds after blocking a leg kick but not stepping back when Reynolds changed levels and drove him to the mat! Reynolds took his time to measure Digger to land some effective ground-and-pound that clearly frustrated Digger and made him try valiantly to lock in a submission on Reynolds. Reynolds was a step ahead with each of Digger’s submission attempts and this further frustrated him.

The 2nd Round was very much a wrestling clinic put on my Reynolds despite Digger again trying very hard to lock him in a submission! Digger simply wasn’t able to hold Reynolds long enough to get anything going and Reynolds controlled the ground positioning more effectively while landing sporadic ground-and-pound, which was enough to score the points he needed on the judges’ cards. Round 3, the final round, saw Digger get his bell rung by a couple of shots from Reynolds in the ground-and-pound, but to his credit, Digger was able to hold on and gather his senses enough to not be finished! Reynolds slowed his attack down because he knew he was in control and the referee stood the combatants up! Digger knew this was his best chance to end the fight and snatch victory from Reynold’s clutches, but Reynolds slowly picked him apart with accurate strikes.

Digger even took Reynolds to the mat in an attempt to find something to finish Reynolds, but he simply didn’t have enough left in the tank and Reynolds avoided any mistakes. All three judges scored the fight the same and awarded the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY to Reynolds!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: GERARD “EL TORO” ESQUEDA (26-10-2) of LEGION OF DOOM versus AARON “THE ANIMAL” WITT (29-9-2) of LEGION OF DOOM

The Legend of Doom faceoff between Esqueda and Witt turned out to be a very entertaining fight and I have no doubt every member of LOD was very proud of the performance! To no one’s surprise, the vast majority of this fight took place on the ground where both men are very skilled, and neither man was able to finish their Alliance-mate but it wasn’t for a lack of trying, that’s for certain! Personally I thought Esqueda would try to keep the fight standing a bit more but he did what he had to do. Esqueda was able to establish an early ground-and-pound attack that set the tone in the opening round! Witt was able to collect himself and defend against the ground-and-pound much better as the round wore on, but the position battle went to Esqueda, who slowed the pace methodically to show his skill and ability with wrestling and ground control, which scored the vital points on the judges’ cards.

Round 2 was spent mostly standing, and I thought Esqueda looked the more comfortable of the two combatant, though Witt definitely landed some sharp punches that woke Esqueda up while giving him a minor case of whiplash in a couple of different instances! Between the takedown stuffs and accurate punches and kicks, Esqueda took the round though Witt made a much better account of himself. He scored a takedown late but didn’t have enough time to really do much with it. Round 3 saw a very precise and patient Esqueda intelligently soften up Witt with some snapping punches and flashy defense before taking him to the mat where he once again slowed the pace and methodically controlled Witt on the ground! Witt was able to deny the submission attempt but it seemed Esqueda was content to just control the body positioning and soften up Witt when he could with more ground-and-pound.

Round 4 featured Esqueda exploiting his height advantage and landing solid strikes until Witt was able to move in closely enough to score the takedown! Witt wrestled with much more determination and energy then he did previously, an indication that he knew he had to step up the level of aggression and intensity to try and turn the fight in his favor. In my opinion, as well as a couple of the judges, Witt was the more effective fighter because he was able to prevent the submission attempts from Esqueda from being successful and also maintained a high level of pressure to take the round, though arguably.

The final round was surprisingly slower than expected, especially once the action went to the ground again after a minute into the round! Witt did his best to gain better positioning but Esqueda just wasn’t going to let that happen, and he even tried a surprise submission attempt! Witt was able to avoid tapping out and he tried to lock in a couple submissions of his own, but Esqueda was too slippery for the late tap out and held on to finish the round, though Witt seemed to take that round on the cards as well. Esqueda did enough to be granted the winner by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: RANDY ORTON (27-8-2) of FIGHTERS FIRST ALLIANCE versus “FENRIS” FELIX TILTHAMMER (44-19-1)

In my opinion, Orton was favored in this battle strictly due to the 11 years younger factor, but let this be a lesson to everyone: Never count out a sage veteran, especially one that has fought as many times as Tilthammer has! The so-called old man put on a clinic and taught the energetic, anxious Orton a thing or two about patience and taking advantage of openings at just the right time. Round 1 definitely belonged to Orton as he controlled the action from start to finish in the round, dictating when the fight went to the ground and when it went to standup, a sign of his fighting ability! Tilthammer didn’t let it phase him as he remained calm despite being overwhelmed by Orton and tasting some of his power in the ground-and-pound!

Round 2 is where Tilthammer began to educate Orton by not only stuffing takedown attempts repeatedly, but also waiting patiently to land some stinging punches in the clinch that cut Orton over his left eye! Orton was able to get the takedown finally after repeated attempts, but it was too little too late, plus Tilthammer defended very well and was able to prevent Orton from having too much success in controlling the action on the ground.

The third and final round was where the fighting experience that TIlthammer has really came through! He frustrated Orton in the clinch by continuing to prevent the takedowns and picking his spots where he would tag Orton with an effective punch then go back to controlling the action. Orton’s determination and ability allowed him to score another takedown, but he couldn’t do much in this case as Tilthammer defended very, very well and forced the referee to stand them up. Tilthammer again waited to land a couple of effective shots before being taken down again, but he controlled the action defensively enough to again force the referee to stand them up. The frustration was visible on Orton’s face and he knew he had to finish the fight to prevent any judging from possibly giving the fight to Tilthammer! Orton again tried for a takedown, probably looking for a hopeful submission, but Tilthammer stopped that and went on to win this battle by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: “WACKY” ZACHARIAH WAYNE (21-14-1) of CHILDREN OF THE LAW OF ONE versus “SCANDINAVIAN ZOMBIE” BALLARD MAGNAR (20-14-1)

Due to Wayne’s height advantage, I thought he would have a bit more success standing toe-to-toe with Magnar rather than trying to battle him on the ground, and an argument can be made that he was successful in both facets, but he simply didn’t do enough when the time was at hand! This was a very even fight that swayed quite a bit during the unfolding of the action! Magnar cut Wayne early with a popping left job that cut Wayne above his right eye and surprised him very briefly! Wayne settled in after that and we saw both men display their excellent striking and defensive techniques, with neither one of them landing any more majorly damaging strikes. Wayne was able to take the fight to the ground but Magnar prevented the ground-and-pound damage, plus he managed to take Wayne’s back, and that caught Wayne a bit off guard. The referee stood them up and they finished fighting in the standup game.

The second round was more of the same with both men testing the other man’s mettle as well as his ability to avoid strikes and deliver them effectively! This continued to be the case until Wayne again decided to try his luck on the ground, taking Magnar down about halfway through the round. This time around, however, Wayne was able to lock in the ground-and-pound strikes and he blasted Magnar with a few brutal elbows and punches that made Magnar regret being on the ground! Magnar managed to hold on and defend long enough to survive the round but Wayne took crucial points on the cards!

The third and final round saw both men step up the level of aggression in the standup game as they traded punches and kicks with neither fighter really getting the best of the other in my opinion. Wayne tried to finish the fight on the ground by taking Magnar down with a couple of minutes left, but Magnar was able to hold on enough to force the referee standup, and both fighters finished as strongly as they could by trading punches. Both men looked worn out and it was Wayne who was disappointed when the judges awarded the MAJORITY DECISION VICTORY to Magnar.

WELTERWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: ORPO JOKINEN (14-7) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus KENNY McCORMICK (12-5)

Otso can be very proud of Orpo as the ferocity in which Orpo won this fight was nothing short of stunning, especially with the skill and ability that McCormick possesses! McCormick looked to keep this fight on the outside so he could utilize his height advantage, but that advantage was his disadvantage as soon as Orpo took this fight to the ground, and it wasn’t long after that that this fight was over! Jokinen was able to score a counter-takedown after a missed body kick from McCormick and he was all over him like a hungry spider going after a fly in its web! McCormick was able to control Jokinen for the most part and even prevented one of his submission attempts, but in doing so, McCormick allowed himself to be open to losing the full mount, and that was the beginning of the end! Jokinen was able to isolate McCormick’s right arm, lock in a Triangle and before McCormick could yank his arm free, Jokinen had his legs locked and it was a done deal!

McCormick reluctantly tapped out and the disappointment was palpable, but he congratulated Jokinen on his victory. Jokinen won by SUBMISSION VICTORY and received a big hug from Otso!

LIGHTWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: USKO LUTTINEN (17-11) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus RUFUS SPEED (15-6) of TEAM CONQUER

In a nutshell, Luttinen wanted to keep this fight in the standup despite being a bit shorter than Speed, and Speed wanted to take this fight to the ground as quickly as he could. Once all was said and done, it was Speed who was able to win the battle of cage positioning, taking the fight to the ground repeatedly and controlling Luttinen in each and every round.

Luttinen did what he could to prevent being taken to the ground, but Speed was on top of his game and his wrestling skill allowed him to take Luttinen to the ground pretty easily, which was a bit of a surprise. To his credit, Luttinen was able to withstand the multiple submission attempts from Speed, but he wasn’t able to turn the tide and thus, Speed won by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT OLYMPIC BATTLE: “THE ICEMAN” CHU CHULAINN (23-14) of EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN versus SEPPO HOVI (9-4) of the FINNFIGHTERS

You want to talk about an exciting, brutal and savage final fight on a card, you had it here! As I predicted, this fight would end painfully and brutally, and it certainly lived up to its billing as both of these warriors let it all hang out in a classic standup war! The first round featured beautiful boxing and kicking skills, along with excellent defense, and the crowd was very appreciative. Both men landed some strong strikes but neither one of them was truly dazed, though it was Chulainn who pulled ahead at the conclusion of the opening round with sheer aggression and determination! In Round 2, it was Hovi who locked in on his punching ability and accuracy, cutting Chulainn above his left eye with a snapping right cross from a one-two combination, and after displaying more excellent skill while avoiding major damage from the game Chulainn, Hovi hurt Chulainn with yet another very effective and damaging one-two combination, with his right cross sending Chulainn reeling! A rib-cracking left hook right after that definitely stunned Chulainn but the round ended!

Round 3 revealed that Chulainn was still on dizzy street despite the one minute rest, and after absorbing a jaw-popping right uppercut from Hovi, he was in real trouble! Chulainn was able to gather himself after taking yet another punishing body shot, but Hovi’s very effective combinations that worked all night long would once again come into play, but this time it provide too much for Chulainn! The right cross from Hovi leveled him and he collapsed onto the mat, leaving the referee no option but to leap in! Hovi earned the victory by way of TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT and also earned KO of the Night honors!

All right you crazy and wild mixed martial arts fans, that’s the end of this review but keep an eye out for yet another preview of the Olympics which will feature even more exciting, nail-biting and surprising battles in the very near future! As always I appreciate you taking the time to join me and I hope you enjoyed the action as much as I did! This is Furious Styles signing off, and I’ll see you…at the fights!

Sisu Fights #23: WER versus KEIJO PREVIEW written by Furious Styles

JUNE 7, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Hello good folks, I hope all of you are well and are ready for another exciting night of mixed martial arts brought to you by Sisu Fights and Perkele! This promises to be a very intriguing card as two titles are on the line: The Middleweight Championship and the Welterweight Championship! So without further ado…let’s get down to business!

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: LUCA “SCRAPATUTTI” TURILLI (22-12-1) of THE STEEL PENN ALLIANCE versus CORMAC GUTZ (18-6-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Whenever a title fight of this magnitude kicks off the action, you know the night will be tremendous and this battle will be one to behold! Turilli steps into this title defense on a three fight win streak and all of them ended in a knockout, so he’s looking sharp and dangerous! Gutz is currently on a two fight win streak and has proven himself to possess knockout power as well, so don’t be surprised if this title fight ends in a flash with one of the warriors kissing canvas!

This will be the first time these accomplished fighters step into battle so that aspect will prove to be just as interesting as the fight itself! Both of them possess championship pedigrees so they can both rely upon that invaluable experience in case they’re in troublesome situations. Turilli has a substantial weight advantage so he may try to utilize that by locking Gutz in a clinch and leaning that extra weight against him while forcing him to defend himself. Gutz may very well try to take this fight to the ground or opt to use his potential speed advantage to stick and move to keep Turilli off balance.

Be sure you don’t miss this title fight ladies and gentlemen because the potential of a knockout is high in my opinion, and who doesn’t like seeing a great knockout victory!?

WELTEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: FLO “POWER” WER (22-7) of GRABTHE.INFO versus "PELTOSAAREN TEURASTAJA” BRUTAALI KEIJO (25-15-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Wer is a rather unique fighter because he looks like someone who hasn’t heard of a razor or doesn’t brush his hair when he gets out of bed, but don’t let the odd 1960’s appearance fool you! Wer is a very capable warrior and his being a champion is a testament to that fact. He has earned a victory in basically every type of scenario there is, so his versatility is definitely a key asset to his skill set!

I have no idea what Keijo's nickname means but I'm sure it has something to do with fighting, because he just looks like a fighter! He has been involved in a number of fights that resulted in a unanimous decision so going the distance in a fight does not make him uncomfortable at all. In fact, he ha a great deal of fighting experience and will be able to rely upon that if he finds himself in trouble.

These men have not crossed paths before so they will have to figure one another out and quickly. Both can rely upon championship experience but it's possible that Wer will try to rely upon the standup game a bit more to utilize his height advantage. Keijo may look to take this fight to the ground or he may opt to test his ability to hit Wer with heavy strikes to see how he responds. Either way, this will be an excellent title fight that many are looking forward to!

FEATHERWEIGHT OLMYPIC BATTLE: “THE BLOND” KATSU HIGASHIKUNI (28-16-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus SEBASTIEN “SNAKE OUT OF GOTHENBURG” LINNE (36-17)

A battle of two greatly respected veterans is what we have here as both men have seen and done it all! I must say it's not often where I see a blond Japanese man so Higashikuni is unique in that respect right from the beginning. He's also a red belt, which is a tremendous accomplishment in itself, and Linne will have to be sure he keeps an eye on that as well.

Linne has a sizable height and weight advantage so he may have to rely upon more of a physical strategy than a skillful one to overcome the abilities that Higashikuni brings into this fight! Both warriors step into the cage of battle with recent losses so the extra motivation to win is front and center. I believe if Higashikuni is able to take this fight to the ground then he may very well score the technical knockout. Linne may try to outwork Higashikuni with his energy and physical advantages I referenced earlier.

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “TEDDY BEAR” KEVIN LOCKLEY (31-13) of MURDER INC. versus JUAN “CHACAL” VELASQUEZ (17-5) of THE GOONIES

Quite simply, Lockley either knocks you out or he gets knocked out! This approach has made him very popular with the fans and rightfully so. Going balls out in every fight is admirable and exciting for the fans and they're buzzing about this battle for certain! The great thing about this fight is that Velasquez is very similar in his approach. He either flattens you or you get flattened, so there's major excitement and the potential for a knockout is very high!

In a nutshell, whichever warrior is able to get that one clean shot on the jaw of the opponent walks out victorious, plain and simple. Honestly it will be disappointing if either fighter tries to take this fight to the ground because knockout power is written all over both of these warriors and that's what all of us want to see! Lockley is the heavier of the two so don't be surprised if he takes this fight into the clinch so he can lean that extra weight on Velasquez while trying to work him over enough to score the knockout! Velasquez will look to stick and move until he's able to position himself for that one lights out blow!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: UMBERTO SOTTO JR. (14-9) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “NIGHTSTALKER” RICARDO RAMIREZ (23-14) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Always my favorite type of fight, we have another inter-Alliance battle where both men will look for the win as well as the bragging rights within the Alliance! Ramirez steps into this fight with more experience and may be looking to try and educate the less experienced Sotto Jr. Sott Jr., however, has a solid height advantage so look for him to keep this fight in the standup as best as possible.

Ramirez may very well look to take this fight to the ground to try and make Sotto Jr. tap out so whoever is able to impose his will in the early stages of this fight will be the winner as I see it. Sotto Jr. may try to win this battle by using a high level of aggression and energy output because he's a few years younger, but that may prove to be rather difficult as well due to Ramirez's championship experience.

Sotto Jr. also has championship experience but his may not be substantial when compared to Ramirez's. We'll see if the younger, standup favoring fighter is able to keep himself off the ground and score the possible knockout against his wiser Alliance mate.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: MOACYR DOMINGOS DE MATOS (38-17-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus MARKO TURTURO (36-17-4) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

The younger De Matos will be looking to utilize his excellent overall skill in mixed martial arts to get the better of his older opponent. In terms of fight experience, these men are very similar and thus, the hope of being able to outsmart or outmaneuver the opponent is very minimal, if existent at all. De Matos has a bit of a height advantage that he may try to use, but it's very possible he'll look to take this fight to the ground to at least control the action while trying to slow Turturo.

Turturo may try to keep this fight in close quarters so he can accurately choose his opportunities to strike and he may be able to keep himself off the mat where it's possible De Matos will have an advantage. It wouldn't surprise me if Turturo went with a bit more of a counter-attack approach to slowly pick De Matos apart while looking out for the takedown attempt.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: FELIX SANDOVAL (15-4) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “CHERRY POPPER” DOCTOR GREENTHUMB (18-8)

Well, one would assume that with a last name of Greenthumb, that individual would be focused more upon growing...natural herbs, rather than popping cherries, but be that as it may, he faces quite a challenge in the form of one Mr. Sandoval! This will be a tough battle for both men because Sandoval has a slight weight advantage while Greenthumb has the weight advantage.

It's quite possible that Sandoval will do his absolute best to keep this fight on its feet as long as possible because Greenthumb has shown the ability to finish opponents on the ground! What's interesting is both men have had a good deal of success by making opponent’s tap out to their array of submission holds, so this may turn into a battle of positioning on the mat where any mistakes made will be capitalized upon, and one of these men may very well find themselves tapping out!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: BILLY KINCAID (26-19) versus ART “THE ARCHITECT” VANDALAY (28-10) of VALHALLA

Kincaid enters this battle with the height and weight advantage, so look for him to try and use that as quickly as possible! He's also 4 years younger so look for him to be very aggressive to try and overcome Vandalay with energy and conditioning. Vandalay does possess the equalizer known as knockout power, so look for him to use his speed and agility to position himself for that one crushing punch that can turn the lights out for Kincaid in the blink of an eye!

Early in their careers these man fought in back-to-back battles, and it was Vandalay who won both of those battles, so look for Kincaid to seek a bit of retribution in this battle. It's possible that Vandaly will look to counter the aggression that's expected from Kincaid, so time will tell for this one!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: GIAMPAOLO PIETRAVALLO (10-3) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN versus JUMMI JAMMI (12-7) of the DIRTY OLD COCKSMEN

Physically these warriors match up very well and that bodes well for the fans who'll be able to witness this fight! Pietravallo may look to take this fight to the ground where he may have the BJJ advantage as he has proven over his career. Jammi may look to keep this fight standing and maintain a high level of pressure on Pietravallo to prevent the takedown from happening.

Both men have been involved in a good number of unanimous decision fights so going the distance won't be a problem for either one. It seems this will boil down to Pietravallo being able to score the technical knockout on the ground, or Jammi scoring the knockout in the standup game! If this fight goes the distance then I'll be very surprised. Look for a brutal stoppage in this affair!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE PHENOM” CAIN MARKO (39-22) of VC-13 versus JOSE SALCEDO (29-19)

Marko has a tremendous height advantage over Salcedo so look for him to keep this fight on the outside and work the jab and cross as much as he possibly can to keep Salcedo at bay! Salcedo has his hands full in trying to get the taller Marko to the ground, but if and when he manages to do so, the advantage for Marko disappears quickly and this becomes a battle of desire on the ground.

One x factor involved for both men is their proven ability to knock the opponent out! Should either of them allow their chin to be exposed too long, that could spell the beginning of the end before they know it! Salcedo will definitely have to stick and move to utilize his agility so he can smother Marko to try and make him uncomfortable while attacking his body to sap his energy level. Again, this is another fight I expect to end far before the bell rings in the final round!

All right good folks, I appreciate you taking the time to join me for this preview and like yourselves, I look forward to seeing who comes out on top in these fights because they are definitely intriguing! Don't forget to place your bets and make your predictions to see how you did. This is Furious Styles signing off, and as always, I'll see you...at the fights!

Sisu Fights #23: WER versus KEIJO REVIEW written by Furious Styles

JUNE 7, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Greetings cool folks, I hope all of you are well and you enjoyed the battles that unfolded this past Saturday in the Suomi International Arena! What a tremendous night of action where the majority of the fights ended in a knockout, which obviously provided a great deal of excitement for all who were able to witness what transpired in the cage! So without further ado, let’s get down to business!

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: LUCA “SCRAPATUTTI” TURILLI (22-13-1) of THE STEEL PENN ALLIANCE versus CORMAC GUTZ (19-6-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS

This Middleweight Championship battle had all the makings of being a very explosive, hard-hitting, savage affair and the fight did not disappoint at all, well except for perhaps Mr. Turilli of course! Both warriors came prepared for a war and it was a war they engaged in. Since Turilli had the weight advantage for this title defense, I was under the impression that he would try to utilize that by pressing his weight against Gutz by clinching with him.

In the opening round, Turilli confirmed my beliefs by doing just that, locking Gutz into a clinch and pressing his weight against him. Prior to that, Turilli tested Gutz’s chin with a couple of very solid punches, one being a snapping right hook and the other a strong left uppercut, but Gutz took them in stride. Gutz caught Turilli with a quick right kick to the left temple but Turilli barely acknowledged it. Turilli slowed Gutz with vicious knees to the stomach but Gutz was able to gut it out until the end of the round, no pun intended. Gutz opened a cut above Turilli’s right eye with a stinging left cross that slowed Turilli just a bit, but he finished the round strongly.

Round 2 was completely different for both men, especially Turilli, because Gutz took the fight to the ground and as soon as he did, Gutz went to work to better his position while landing sporadic ground-and-pound! As best as he could, Turilli fought off the transitions that Gutz attempted but Gutz was too slippery a customer and once he maneuvered his way into full mount, the beginning of the end was nigh! Turilli defended and tried to control Gutz as best as he could, but he just couldn’t overcome the tremendous velocity in which Gutz was landing the brutal and crushing fists and elbows! Gutz literally pounded Turilli’s face into a bloody mess and the doctor in attendance called a stop to the fight because Turilli simply couldn’t see clearly and was in obvious trouble! Gutz became the NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION and took a little snipe at Turilli with a comment about him failing as the counter takedown king!

WELTEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: FLO “POWER” WER (23-7) of GRABTHE.INFO versus "PELTOSAAREN TEURASTAJA” BRUTAALI KEIJO (25-16-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS

As I emphasized in my preview of this battle, don’t underestimate Wer simply by the way he looks! I don’t believe Keijo underestimated him at all because he’s been involved in far too many battles, but I think Wer opened the eyes of a few disbelievers because Keijo is known to have a very solid chin, but Wer took it to that chin and the result was shocking for some!

Keijo put Wer into trouble a bit early when he was able to pin him against the cage and land some hard shots, but Wer kept calm, relied upon his defensive skills, and was able to overcome the early onslaught! Wer woke up after that and begin to let his hands loose, scoring a few strong punches that kept Keijo at bay. Wer later took the fight to the ground where we witnessed Keijo unleash pretty much every submission move he knows, and they were in a fast succession on top of that! Wer not only avoided being locked into a submission hold, but he was able to control the positioning on the ground and moved himself into full mount where he blasted Keijo with some brutal ground-and-pound!

The 2nd round was a standup contest that the crowd loved because both men simply went for it! Trading thudding punches and kicks, both men displayed excellent technique with their fighting as well as their defense and footwork, and those skills were greatly appreciated. Keijo was the first to draw blood with a lightning fast right cross that sliced open a cut above Wer’s left eye. After trading more strikes it was Wer who cut Keijo above his right eye with a flashing left head kick that Keijo didn’t expect. After a bit of action, Wer positioned himself beautifully for a dynamite left cross that rocked Keijo’s skull and jaw with vicious impact! Keijo tried to hold on but Wer was all over him and the referee had to step in!

Wer successfully DEFENDED THE WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!

FEATHERWEIGHT OLMYPIC BATTLE: “THE BLOND” KATSU HIGASHIKUNI (29-16-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus SEBASTIEN “SNAKE OUT OF GOTHENBURG” LINNE (36-18)

Higashikuni wanted to take this fight the ground as soon as possible while Linne wanted to keep it standing so he could use his size advantage better. Since both of these warriors are seasoned veterans, imposing their will upon the other was the real key in this fight, and it was the spry and more youthful Higashikuni who was able to do so in the end, but he definitely had to work for it!

Round 1 was all about the energetic output by Higashikuni and Linne was surprisingly a bit too methodical, opting to look for counter-attacks. He was able to land a counter leg kick but Higashikuni was able to drag him down to the mat and once down there, Higashikuni was able to land some painful and brutal ground-and-pound that made Linne look like the mat was the very last place he wanted to be! Linne used his great wrestling technique to get out of trouble and take Higashikuni’s back, but he wasn’t able to take advantage of that situation fully, though he did score vital points with his own ground-and-pound from the back position.

Round 2 saw Linne demonstrate his ability to be dangerous at any given point in time! Higashikuni was able to land effective punches and kicks due to his energy level but Linne was patiently waiting and timing his counter attacks until he unloaded a wicked right head kick that nearly took Higashikuni off of his feet! Linne opted to let Higashikuni stand up and this may have proven to be the turning point of the fight! Higashikuni was sliced open above his left eye from that kick but to his credit, he was able to gather himself quickly, get back to his feet, and locked Linne into a clinch that allowed him to regain his senses and eventually take the fight back to the ground with a counter takedown. Honestly, either fighter could have won that round but many felt Linne won it with the knockdown.

The final round saw both men stand toe-to-toe and let it all hang out, much to the delight of those in attendance! Personally I thought that was a very risky move on Higashikuni’s behalf because of the knockdown, as well as Linne’s obvious height advantage, but Higashikuni would not be denied. Surprisingly, Linne attempted a takedown of his own when the fighters went into a clinch due to positioning, but Linne denied multiple attempts by Higashikuni to take him down to the mat again. Linne landed some solid shots, but so did Higashikuni, and when the final bell sounded, the judges awarded the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY to Higashikuni!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “TEDDY BEAR” KEVIN LOCKLEY (31-14) of MURDER INC. versus JUAN “CHACAL” VELASQUEZ (18-5) of THE GOONIES

As outlined in my preview, this fight was going to end in a knockout and sure enough, I nailed it right on the money, much to the happiness of the crowd in attendance! Both men bled, bruised and battered their way to a first round finish, and it was Velasquez who stood victorious once all the dust settled! Velasquez drew first blood with a right hook that, despite being partially blocked, blasted Lockley’s skull enough to cut him open above his left eye! Shortly afterward, Lockley returned the favor with a powerful right hook of his own that sliced open a cut above Velasquez’s left eye!

After that, both men put forth a lot of effort, especially Lockley, and both fighters struggled to land more clean shots, a credit to each of their defensive abilities! The back-and-forth action continued until Velasquez was able take advantage of Lockley getting into an odd position momentarily by tagging Lockley with a vicious one-two combo! Velasquez allowed Lockley to get back to his feet and Lockley immediately attempted to respond with a combo of his own that he missed! Velasquez allowed Lockley to swing and miss a few more times then he rocked Lockley again with a thunderous right uppercut!

Lockley managed to get back to his feet, though he was unstable, and Velasquez ended the punishment with a brutal right hook that turned out Lockley’s lights! Velasquez won this battle by KNOCKOUT!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: UMBERTO SOTTO JR. (15-9) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “NIGHTSTALKER” RICARDO RAMIREZ (23-15) of the FINNFIGHTERS

With their fellow FinnFighter Alliance mates watching, these two combatants went for it the entire three rounds, which drew a lot of respect for each man, and it was Sotto Jr. who was able to outpoint the game Ramirez and, as a result, he got to give him a bit of verbal grief when they left the cage and were speaking with other FinnFighter mates!

Sotto Jr. set the tone very early by planting a nice solid left cross above Ramirez’s right eye and cutting him right above it! That seemed to inspire Sotto Jr. and he started to let his educated hands fly, pressing the action on Ramirez then positioning himself to land more effective punches, but Ramirez slowed his flow just a bit by locking him a in a clinch. Otto Jr. adopted quickly to that close quarters and took Ramirez to the ground where Ramirez was a man possessed in trying to land the submission finish! Sotto Jr. was able to avoid being tapped out and finished the round ahead on the cards.

Round 2 became a ground affair with Ramirez still doing his best to make Sotto Jr. tap while Sotto Jr. did his best to avoid being locked into any painful submission holds and also fighting to maintain solid positioning on the ground. It’s argumentative who won the 2nd round because Ramirez was definitely the aggressor, but since he wasn’t able to successfully lock in any of his numerous attempts, does that translate to him not effectively winning the round? Round 3 was very much the same as Round 2, with Sotto Jr. landing effective punches and Ramirez taking the fight to the ground and attempting numerous submission holds. Again, which way the round was scored really relied upon the judges’ perspectives, obviously, so that makes it difficult. In the end, it was Sotto Jr. who was awarded the victory by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: MOACYR DOMINGOS DE MATOS (38-18-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus MARKO TURTURO (37-17-4) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

A struggle between two knowledgeable and capable veterans is what we witnessed in this contest! Much to my surprise, both of these warriors elected to keep this fight standing, and that worked in Turturo’s favor in the end, but it didn’t appear that way when the fight began! In Round 1, both men traded aesthetically pleasing techniques that impressed the crowd, and as the round wore on, it was Matos who was able to not only land cleaner, more concise strikes, but he was also the more effective counter-attacker, though both were successful with their counter-attacks. Matos finished the round very well and won the opening round in my opinion.

Round 2 was a reversal of roles as it was Turturo who poured on the pressure and the strength by landing painful strikes, especially leg kicks, that obviously slowed Matos and caused him to be slightly hesitant, though he was still very effective with counter-strikes and overall striking. Both warriors showed their tremendous defensive ability by avoiding any serious damage, but Turturo distanced himself by landing the more painful strikes at the most opportune times!

The final round saw both men just unload on each other with brutal, savage strikes and some of the leg kicks made the crowd groan because it was apparent that they did their damage! In a battle of wills at this point, it was Turturo who dug down deep and was able to push through the pain and pounding to land the one shot that spelled the beginning of the end for Matos! The left jab that started the downfall wasn’t filled with TNT, but it had enough behind it to daze Matos and set him up for a jaw-crunching right cross that floored Matos! He did his best to fend for himself but Turturo was all over him and the ref had no choice but to step in and stop it! Turturo won this battle by TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT!

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: FELIX SANDOVAL (15-5) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “CHERRY POPPER” DOCTOR GREENTHUMB (19-8)

I was under the impression that this fight would end with a submission, and boy was I wrong! The fight did end on the ground so I was halfway there, but it was ended brutally with a damaging ground-and-pound attack by Greenthumb, who again, with last name like that, sounds like an individual who would be into more…organic partaking’s than being a mixed martial artist who calls himself a “Cherry Popper”.

Well, Greenthumb made pretty quick work of Sandoval, and that was surprising to me because Sandoval has shown a very good ability to finish opponents on the ground as well! In a nutshell, Greenthumb locked Sandoval into a clinch, took him to the ground, withstood early ground-and-pound from Sandoval when he beautifully reversed positions and moved into full guard, turned the tables on Sandoval and went into mount, then finished Sandoval with savage ground-and-pound!

Greenthumb won this battle by TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT and I was informed that after this fight, Sandoval and his management team mutually agreed to go their separate ways and he is now a Free Agent. I’m certain there’s another management team that will be willing to work with him because he has a lot of fight left in him!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: BILLY KINCAID (26-20) versus ART “THE ARCHITECT” VANDALAY (29-10) of VALHALLA

What we witnessed here was a straight up, hardcore, toe-to-toe, standup war! Talk about two warriors testing the ability of the other to take it as well as he could deliver it! The crowd loved it, the corners for both men didn’t like it as much because of the damage each one took, but it was all very well worth it because it was a beautiful, bloody brawl! I just made myself sound like I have blood lust, didn’t I?

Kincaid drew first blood with a rapid-fire left jab that cut Vandalay above his right eye! Vandalay, always one who believes in an eye for an eye, or a cut for a cut in this case, returned the favor with a brutal one-two combo that floored Kincaid and cut him above his left eye! Vandalay let Kincaid get back to his feet and they were right back at it again! Nearly 2 minutes after that knockdown, Kincaid saw himself staring up at the ceiling again as a result of a shocking right cross! To his credit, Kincaid got back to his feet and kept on fighting!

Round 2 was defined by a crushing left head kick and a devastating right uppercut delivered by Vandalay and absorbed by Kincaid! Kincaid has the constitution of a vending machine because he just kept taking the punishment, getting up and asking for more! The crowd showed their appreciation of his heart and his desire to battle! In the 3rd Round, Vandalay and Kincaid traded excellent standup techniques, both offensive and defensive, but it was Vandalay again who floored Kincaid with another solid right cross and he leapt on Kincaid’s back when he hit the mat! Vandalay let his fists fly and the ref had to stop the right, giving the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY to Vandalay!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: GIAMPAOLO PIETRAVALLO (11-3) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN versus JUMMI JAMMI (12-8) of the DIRTY OLD COCKSMEN

I like it when a fighter makes me look good by following what I predicted for them, and Pietravallo did exactly that by taking this fight to the ground repeatedly and keeping a hold of the talented Jammi long enough to earn the victory, but Jammi didn’t just lay down, that’s for sure! Jammi put up one hell of a defensive standing at certain times, gained the position advantage at others, and when the fight was standing, he was able to land effective strikes that kept Pietravallo at bay.

Unfortunately for Jammi, he wasn’t able to keep Pietravallo off of him for very long at any point during the fight, and wasn’t able to take advantage of great positioning on the ground and near the end of the third round, he executed a beautiful sweep to gain full mount but wasn’t able to finish Pietravallo there! Pietravallo even gave Jammi his back and Jammi wasn’t able to lock in the rear naked choke, much to the chagrin of his fans. Pietravallo earned the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY and was grateful in doing so!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE PHENOM” CAIN MARKO (39-22) of VC-13 versus JOSE SALCEDO (29-19)

Once again another great fighter makes me look good by following through with what I predicted, so I have to thank Marko for that! Yes it was obvious that he should use his great height advantage, I get it, but still, it’s what I predicted so I’m going with that. Both warriors bled in this one, to no surprise, since they both possess great punching power and educated fists! Salcedo drew first blood with a nasty left jab that sliced Marko above his right eye. Marko returned the favor with a savage left head kick that cut Salcedo above his right eye. Near the end of the round, Salcedo took the fight to the ground which was a bit of a surprise to some in attendance.

In Round 2, Salcedo felt he had something with the takedown in Round 1 so he attempted to take the fight to the ground in this round also, but Marko wasn’t having any of it! After Salcedo failed with more strikes, Marko timed a counter-right cross perfectly and devastated Salcedo’s jaw! Salcedo leaned against the cage and Marko continued the onslaught until the ref stepped in! Marko earned the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

Well cool kids, that’s my time and that’s the conclusion of this review! As always I appreciate you taking the time to join me for this review and I hope you enjoyed all the action that unfolded this past weekend. Stay tuned for more great action that’s fast approaching and I’ll cover that action in my next preview. Take care, be well…and I’ll see you at the fights!

Sisu Fights #24: PRIEST versus EBERHARD PREVIEW written by Furious Styles

JUNE 14, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

What’s happenin’ everyone? I hope all of you are well and you enjoyed the previous exciting night of action Sisu Fights brought to you last week! As expected we have another tremendous night of mixed martial arts action lined up for all of you, so get ready to see some of the best talent in the industry lock horns! Without further ado…let’s get down to business!

HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: “THE REV” JOHNNY PRIEST (27-11-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “DOWNFALL” ELIAS EBERHARD (17-4)

I hate to say it but “Downfall” may be the appropriate name for Mr. Eberhard in this fight if he doesn’t protect his chin from Priest! Priest has been delivering very painful sermons of knockouts like they’re going out of style, as we have witnessed in his last five fights! Eberhard has shown the ability to knock people out also, don’t underestimate him, but lately he has used his high level of aggression and energy to outlast his opponents. I’m not sure if that’s an approach he’ll want to take with Priest because Priest is looking to end his night early! Look for Priest to use his height advantage to land punches accurately and he may also look to clinch with Eberhard and lay that substantial weight advantage on him to slow him down for said punches. Eberhard may look to try to either take Priest to the ground for the possible submission, or to at least control the action and avoid taking one of those powerful punches.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: JAN “POLISH SOLDIER” SOBIESKI (28-9) of the POLISH EAGLES’ NEST versus OTTO “KOOMA” JOKINEN (36-12-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

One of the FinnFighter legends steps into the cage in the form of one Otto Jokinen, and wherever he goes, the crazy Finland fans go! Sobieski has been in battle with other excellent fighters so he should be able to remain calm against Jokinen, but if he allows Jokinen to find a consistent home with his punches and kicks, this could very well be a long night for Sobieski. Over the span of his very respectable career, Sobieski has been involved in a lot of unanimous decision fights so going the distance is nothing new to him. Against Jokinen I expect Sobieski to try and take this fight to the ground where he can utilize that extra ten pounds to try and tire Jokinen faster than he would like to be.

I can only imagine that Jokinen wants to keep this fight on its feet as best as possible where his dangerous striking will be a valuable asset against Sobieski. He may even opt to be more accurate with his strikes and not look for power shots to keep Sobieski off balance a bit and prevent the takedown that Sobieski will likely look for. Either way this is going to be a great battle of battle-tested warriors!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “BROOKLYN ZOMBIE” NATHAN SPEED (21-11-1) versus “THE EXECUTIONER” DAVOR LANGERHOLC (17-8)

Speed has been struggling a bit as of late so he’ll definitely look to get things turned around against Langerholc in this battle! Speed still possesses the ability to cold conk an opponent with his hard fists so Langerholc will have to be sure his defensive skills are sharp and ready. Langerholc has similarly struggled as of late and this may inspire him to be more aggressive than usual, particularly if this fight goes to the ground where he may very well go for the submission win! Speed has a distinct height advantage so don’t be surprised if he stays on the outside and uses his excellent footwork and movement to not only land precision punches and kicks, but to also prevent the takedown attempts from Langerholc. Speed has shown a solid ability to wrestle with the best of them, so Langerholc may have to look for counter-attacks to land strikes and set Speed up for the takedown. This will be a struggle for both fighters as I see it, so their experience will be the deciding factor.

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: COOPER “KO FEDEX” ABREU (18-4) of the CONSORTIUM versus ICHIRO “WAR MACHINE” TAKAHASHI (21-11-1) of CONVICTED INC.

Takahashi brings more battle experience to this confrontation and that may prove to be an x factor in deciding the outcome of this battle! Having that advantage, along with the height advantage, will probably cause Takahashi to stay on his toes and move around quite a bit while throwing out various types of punches to see how Abreu reacts to them. If not careful, Abreu may be so focused on Takahashi’s punches that he’ll leave himself open for a few punishing and damaging kicks. One weapon Abreu has in his favor is the ability to rock an opponent’s world with one of his many solid punches, so Takahashi will definitely have to keep an eye open for counter-punches and accurate punches that carry a lot of impact behind them! Abreu may also look to take this fight to the ground where he would be able to nullify the height advantage Takahashi has, plus make an attempt to control the fight there and maybe even try for the submission finish.

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: ORI “THE STALLION” JOKINEN (15-9) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus LUKE JONES (15-5-1) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

With Otto in the house to cheer him on, I have no doubt that Ori’s confidence will be very high when he steps into the cage against Jones! He’s going to need that confidence also because Jones has shown the ability to be a dangerous opponent on the ground! Jokinen is at a large height disadvantage and it may prove risky to try and take Jones to the ground, so he may have to rely upon speed, agility, and accuracy to overcome Jones. Jones has options and that could be a very bad fact for Jokinen. He has enough ability in his ground game to keep this fight standing to take advantage of his height and weight advantage, and he can definitely use his weight advantage on the ground. Otto will definitely have to bend Ori’s ear in this one because it will definitely be difficult!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE SLEYEY” SIOUXSIE BANSHEES (39-19-1) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE versus “FENRIS” FELIX TILTHAMMER (44-19-1)

Needless to say, these two warriors have seen it all and have done it all in their lengthy, very respectable careers! In a nutshell, both men are comfortable anywhere and against anyone, but as I see it, Banshees will look to keep this fight on its feet until he feels he can score the takedown, and once that occurs, I think Tilthammer will have his hands full with trying to keep Banshees from making him tap out! Tilthammer may have to rely upon counter-attacks and focus more on accurate kicks and punches instead of power shots to keep Tilthammer from possibly taking this fight to the ground. Tilthammer may be able to sneak in the one clean shot he needs with his powerful punches to change the course of this fight, or even end it, and I have no doubt that Banshees is very aware of that and has worked on keeping his head moving and his chin out of trouble. This will definitely be a tough fight that may very well last the entire fight for a decision victory.

MIDDLEWEIGHT BATTLE: BRUCE “THE DAMAGE” McBRAIN (36-23) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE JOKER” VLAD KERSIKOV (17-5-2) of CONVICTED INC.

A classic matchup of experience versus up-and-coming youth, McBrain steps into the cage against the crafty and unpredictable Kersikov, with his odd face paint and peculiar purple suit! McBrain’s experience and tremendous mixed martial arts abilities will definitely allow him to remain calm and focused against Kersikov, and that will definitely be a factor. Since Kersikov has the height and weight advantage, don’t be surprised if the veteran McBrain takes this fight to the ground to try and control and frustrate Kersikov into giving up bad positioning for a potential submission. Kersikov may rely upon his educated fists and feet to try and overcome McBrain, and he definitely will have a fight on his hands! We’ve all seen Kersikov’s ability to step up the pressure and energy on an opponent quickly so McBrain will have to be wary of this factor as well. This may very well boil down to a battle of attrition with the athlete in better condition being the victor.

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE INSTIGATOR” JAKKE RUUTU (14-6) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus KAKE NYRKKI (21-16-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The fan favorite inter-Alliance battle is on tap in this contest and it’s going to be a good one! Ruutu will probably try to keep this fight on its feet while Ruutu will look to take this fight to the ground and try to score the submission finish. I won’t be surprised if other FinnFighter alliance members surround the cage and yell various…motivational phrases, along with other colorful vernacular that anyone who doesn’t speak Finnish won’t understand. Ruutu may be the more aggressive fighter as he will want to take advantage of his four year youth advantage to maintain a high level of energy and pressure on the older Nyrkki. We’ll see who gets to brag about their victory at the next FinnFighter BBQ pool party!

MIDDLEWEIGHT BATTLE: “MY COCK IS MASSIVE” EYEONLY FUCKWELL (20-13-1) of TEAM OUTKAST versus LUDWIG “GIWDUL” MANRES (25-26)

While Fuckwell’s entire name and nickname may draw many more female fans than most other mixed martial artists, and perhaps a few oddballs as well, I’m not sure if Manres will be intimidated or worried about it all, though personally I would want to make sure Fuckwell wore a cup because I wouldn’t want any man-meat touching me in that way. I’m just sayin’! Manres has seen plenty of battles but I’m not sure any of them have been against men whose name is an adult movie in and of itself. Simply stated, Fuckwell will want to keep this fight standing because should he be taken to the mat, Manres and his red belt may prove to be very painful and cause a humbling submission. Of course, Fuckwell may like to be taken to the mat, but probably by females who aren’t trying to make him submit painfully; only willingly. Moving on…

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: GENKI DAMA (31-17) of ACME – ST. PETERSBURG versus JAMES ASSANGE (23-8)

Last but not least, we have another battle between two very battle-tested warriors who have seen and done just about everything in the industry! Look for Assange to use his height advantage as best as possible and let his fists and feet fly, while Dama looks to take this fight to the ground to take advantage of the taller Assange and get a hold of one of his limbs to make him tap out.

All right good people, that’s my time and that’s the end of this preview. Thank you as always for joining me and I do truly appreciate it. I hope you enjoy the action that unfolds in the cage tomorrow as all of the fights promise to bring their own degree of excitement and intensity! Take care be well…and I’ll see you at the fights!

Sisu Fights #24: PRIEST versus EBERHARD REVIEW written by Furious Styles

JUNE 14, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Hello cool kids, I hope all of you are well and you enjoyed the festivities and brutality that Sisu Fights unveiled this past weekend! The Suomi International Arena was rockin’ and for good reason as there were ten excellent fights that night that shook the foundation. So, without further ado, let’s get down to business!

HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: “THE REV” JOHNNY PRIEST (27-12-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “DOWNFALL” ELIAS EBERHARD (18-4)

In my preview I said Eberhard will absolutely have to protect his chin from Priest’s fists or it could be a short night for him! So what does Eberhard do? He temps fate just a bit but manages to keep the fight on the ground for the vast majority, and that’s definitely one way to keep your chin away from an opponent’s fists! In Round 1, Priest was able to land solid punches and a couple of elbows but Eberhard was able to weather those shots and took the fight to the ground. However, between Priest’s defense and lack of action, the ref stood them up to finish the round and Priest went ahead on the cards. Round 2 was a strange one because it was spent entirely on the ground and both men struggled mightily to land any ground-and-pound, but due to Eberhard’s overall control on the ground, though Priest did manage to turn the tables and end up in dominant position, Eberhard did enough to take that round.

Round 3 looked much like the first round with a clinch early in the round then the fight going to the ground, where Eberhard was finally able to land some effective strikes while controlling the action on the ground and again, he scored the vital points on the scorecards. Round 4 and Round 5 were near mirror images of one another, with Eberhard again taking the fight to the ground where he was able to do enough damage and control the action enough for the judges to give him the go ahead on their scorecards. The frustration was clearly evident on Priest’s face as he wanted to win this fight by knockout, but it wasn’t meant to be on that night. Eberhard became the NEW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION by way of UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: JAN “POLISH SOLDIER” SOBIESKI (29-9) of the POLISH EAGLES’ NEST versus OTTO “KOOMA” JOKINEN (36-13-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Sobieski made me look very smart in this fight as I predicted that keeping this fight on the ground would serve him best and that’s exactly what he did…for the entire fight! This fight can easily be summarized like this: Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 were submission hold battles where each fighter did his best to make the other tap. That’s it, cut and dry! The difference? Sobieski controlled the action and the few times this fight was in the standup, he managed to take it back to the ground quickly. Obviously Jokinen was disappointed that he wasn’t able to land his renowned punches and kicks with accuracy and strength, and he had a look of disgust when he respectfully shook Sobieski’s hand to congratulate him on his victory. Sobieski won this battle by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “BROOKLYN ZOMBIE” NATHAN SPEED (21-12-1) versus “THE EXECUTIONER” DAVOR LANGERHOLC (18-8)

Both of these warriors entered this battle on losing streaks and were struggling, so it was enticing to see the battle of positioning in this fight! Speed knew he wanted to keep this fight standing so he could use his height advantage, and Langerholic knew his best opportunity for victory was on the ground, so both did their best to take the fight to where they wanted it. Round 1 was a testing phase for each fighter as Speed nailed Langerholc with a few solid strikes before Langerholc took the fight to the ground. However, it seemed that Langerholc was a bit surprised by Speed’s defensive abilities on the ground because he wasn’t able to easily control him nor lock in any of his submission attempts. Langerholc was able to land sporadic ground-and-pound, but due to Speed’s level of aggression and energy while on the ground, the judges favored him in the opening round.

Round 2 was a different story because Langerholc made the proper adjustments when he took the fight to the ground, and he was able to control Speed far better than he did in Round 1 while still attempting to lock in various submission holds. Speed still held up quite well defensively and even nearly locked in his own submission attempt that briefly caught Langerholc off guard. Near the end of the round, Speed reversed the situation and executed a beautiful sweep to take the dominant position, but he didn’t have enough time to do much with it. Langerholc took the round on the scorecards. Round 3 saw a determined Langerholc finally figure out how to keep Speed from wiggling his way out of all of his submission holds, and around the 2 minute mark of the round, Langerholc finally found what he was looking for and Speed knew he was in trouble as soon as it happened! As soon as Langerholc rolled onto his stomach with Speed’s arm tucked under, Speed tried to fight it but it was too late and he had to tap out! Langerholc won by SUBMISSION VICTORY!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: COOPER “KO FEDEX” ABREU (19-4) of the CONSORTIUM versus ICHIRO “WAR MACHINE” TAKAHASHI (21-12-1) of CONVICTED INC.

This fight was an absolute struggle as both men displayed excellent martial arts skills both standing and on the ground! When the fight was on its feet, Takahashi was definitely more effective than Abreu, though Abreu held his own so don’t get me wrong. When the fight went to the ground, Abreu distanced himself on the scorecards from Takahashi though Takahashi showed excellent grappling skills and was able to reverse and defend many positions that Abreu initially placed him in.

I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to be a judge in this fight because, in my opinion, Round 1 and Round 2 were a tossup! An argument could have been made for either fighter as to why they should have won either round as both were aggressive, intelligent, and determined. Submissions, transitions, ground-and-pound and all-around ability were on full display from both men. Round 3 definitely belonged to Takashi who tried to end the fight because he knew the first two rounds were far too close to call! Abreu defended well enough in the clinch to prevent himself from being rocked but he definitely absorbed some damaging blows. Abreau won this hard-fought battle by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: ORI “THE STALLION” JOKINEN (15-10) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus LUKE JONES (16-5-1) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

It proved to be a tough night for the Jokinen clan as Ori stepped into the cage against Jones and just didn’t have the ability to get it going anyway he wanted it to! Otto was just as frustrated for Ori as he pounded the mat on the outside of the cage and yelled various Finnish words that I still have no idea as to what they mean. All in all, no matter what Jones did, he was locked in and one step ahead of Jokinen the entire fight! I thought Jones would keep this fight standing because of his height advantage, but he surprised me by not only taking this fight to the ground, but doing so as easily as he did. I’m not certain if Jokinen allowed this to occur to try and take advantage of Jones but he just couldn’t muster much offense at all. Jones outworked him in all three rounds and won this fight by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE SLEYEY” SIOUXSIE BANSHEES (39-20-1) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE versus “FENRIS” FELIX TILTHAMMER (45-19-1)

What do you expect from two tremendous competitors with a vast amount of fighting experience? A battle of chess, if you will, in the cage, and that’s exactly what we witnessed! Trying to setup the opponent by baiting him, positioning him for timely strikes, and outworking him in the clinch. I don’t think anyone expected this fight to go to the ground so those that wanted a standup war were very happy with this fight. All three rounds turned out to be pretty much the same, with Tilthammer simply outdueling Banshees in all aspects of this standup war! He had the more accurate strikes, the more damaging strikes, better positioning and control in the clinch, and just overall had his mojo working to its full effect. He won this battle by UNANIMOUS DECISION and lauded his “old man strength”!

MIDDLEWEIGHT BATTLE: BRUCE “THE DAMAGE” McBRAIN (36-24) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE JOKER” VLAD KERSIKOV (18-5-2) of CONVICTED INC.

The odd fighter in the purple suit and battle clown face paint did it again by using his tremendous energy, aggression and agility to outmaneuver and ultimately, allow his dangerous fists speak volumes for him! The unpredictable nature, along with that purple suit, make Kersikov a difficult warrior to prepare for, and the wily veteran McBrain wasn’t able to figure him out in time to prevent the damage from being done! Kersikov locked McBrain in a clinch early, landed a couple of harsh punches, pushed McBrain away and cut him over his left eye with a nasty right hook that McBrain didn’t seen coming until it was too late! McBrain looked a bit angered by this and landed a stifling right kick to Kersikov’s legs that woke him up. Kersikov moved very smoothly after that with the exception of holding still long enough for McBrain to tag him with a stinging left jab that sliced him open above his right eye!

After exchanging beautiful fighting techniques, Kersikov locked McBrain into a clinch again, landed more painful punches, broke the clinch, worked hard to land a solid left hook that crunched McBrain’s jaw and rocked his world, then measured McBrain for the final devastating right cross that abruptly halted McBrain’s movement and consciousness! Kersikov won by KNOCKOUT!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE INSTIGATOR” JAKKE RUUTU (15-6) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus KAKE NYRKKI (21-17-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Ah yes, the inter-Alliance, bragging rights, ego-building battle that provided a lot of excitement and blood! Neither of these men held back and that no doubt earned the respect of fellow FinnFighter’s, plus I have no doubt their battle wounds have been on full display on their Instagram and Facebook accounts. In Round 1, Ruutu drew first blood with a crushing right hand to Nyrkki’s skull that sliced him open above his left eye! Both men then struggled to either land more clean strikes or to try their luck in the clinch, and they looked like they were dancing for a while. Ruutu opened up Nyrkki’s cut even more with a nasty left cross and a massive right head kick that really made the blood flow!

Surprising to me, Ruutu took the fight to the ground in Round 2 though that didn’t last long at all. Both fighters kind of chuckled about that and kept right on with their standup war like everyone wanted to see! However, Ruutu took the fight to the ground again later in the round, perhaps for a change of pace, but Nyrkki was able to reverse fortunes and wound up in the dominant position. He didn’t do anything with it so the ref stood them up where they finished in the clinch. Round 3 began with a laugh because many of the FinnFighter alliance members were hooting and hollering at each man to finish the fight! After battling aggressively, Ruutu was able to land a vicious one-two combo that blasted Nyrkki to the mat where Ruutu allowed him to gather himself just enough to stand up, but it was obvious that Nyrkki was in serious trouble! Ruutu sized him up and unleashed a ferocious right hook that probably dented Nyrkki’s left temple permanently! Ruutu won by KNOCKOUT!

MIDDLEWEIGHT BATTLE: “MY COCK IS MASSIVE” EYEONLY FUCKWELL (21-13-1) of TEAM OUTKAST versus LUDWIG “GIWDUL” MANRES (25-27)

As predicted – not predickted, as Fuckwell may try to use a play on words – this fight went as I believed it would with Fuckwell doing his damage in the standup game while Manres did his best to finish this fight on the ground! Although Manres was able to score various takedowns, he wasn’t able to take advantage of positioning nor was he able to finish Fuckwell and this allowed Fuckwell to be the more dominant fighter on the ground, taking the points on the judges’ scorecards. This was the case for both Round 1 and Round 2. Round 3 was standup domination by Fuckwell to finish this fight off and earn the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: GENKI DAMA (32-17) of ACME – ST. PETERSBURG versus JAMES ASSANGE (23-9)

When Dama was able to take the taller Assange to the ground, everything worked out very well for him as he was able to control him and manipulate his longer limbs enough to keep him off balance while preventing any major damage to himself! The only round where Assange was able to fight to his advantage was Round 2, and by Round 3, he knew that he had to finish the fight but was angry when Dama was able to score the takedown a little over a minute into the round and keep the action there as opposed to allowing Assange to throw damaging punches and kicks. Assange wasn’t dominated but he just wasn’t able to mount enough of an offense overall to sway the judges and Dama won by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

All right good folks, that’s my time and that’s the end of another review by yours truly, Furious Styles. As always I thank you for joining me for a review of Sisu’s latest action and I hope you stay tuned for the next preview of the fights happening this weekend. Sisu Fights #26 Preview written by Furious Styles

JUNE 28, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Greetings ladies and gents, I hope all of you are well and are excited about the events that will take place tomorrow! We've had tremendous action from the Tycoon Olympics and I'll review that in the near future, but for now we're focusing upon Sisu Fights 26! So without further ado...let's get down to business!

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: CORMAC GUTZ (19-6-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “MR. HAMMERSTONE” TYLER RICHARDS (28-7) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Not only do we have two excellent Middleweight fighters squaring off against one another, but we also have an inter-Alliance battle that will surely give the FinnFighters plenty to talk about! Gutz has finished a lot of his opponents with his brutal punching power so Richards will definitely need to be on top of his game defensively. Very much like Gutz, Richards has shown the ability to finish opponent’s off using his fists, so the possibility that someone gets knocked the hell out is high in my opinion! Both men's losses have mainly been by submission or unanimous decision, so they both know the other side of battling tough opponents. Gutz has the height advantage, Richards the weight advantage, so I think this battle boils down to either Gutz keeping the fight standing and going for the knockout, or Richards trying to take it to the ground to ground-and-pound his way to victory! The crowd will definitely like this fight because it has the potential to last all of one round.

LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: “KRUEL” KALE KUMMOLA (17-5) versus FRANK “FAST HANDS” REYNOLDS (24-9-3)

Well we have the inter-Alliance battle theme continuing with this championship battle between two very capable warriors! Kummola has continually demonstrated an ability to make his opponents tap out and that may very well be the approach he takes against Reynolds, though these two know one anothers abilities well because they sometimes train with one another. Reynolds' fast hands are also dangerous hands, and if he's able to connect cleanly with Kummola's jaw, this fight may end quite quickly! Reynolds may very well rely upon his battle experience advantage over Kummola to try and set him up for the knockout. Kummola gives up height and weight, but he may be able to utilize his speed to catch Reynolds off balance and take him to the mat. Will Kummola be able to utilize his youth and energy to overcome the bigger and more experienced Reynolds, or will Reynolds be able to use his intelligence to shock the upstart Kummola with a surprise punch that rocks his world?

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: JRYSKA “DR.” VELMU (38-15-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus SHAWN WEXLER (22-10) of TEAM OUTKAST

Velmu has seen it all done it all during his career, and he faces a challenger who is basically his age and not as experienced, but he has made many a man tap out due to his superior BJJ abilities! It's not often that a red belt is earned so plan to see Wexler use that to the best of his ability. Velmu is no stranger to battling on the ground and has shown excellent skills on the ground as well, so this will be a struggle between these two! Since Wexler is the taller of the two, Velmu may opt to keep the fight in close quarters to lock Wexler in a clinch while preventing the takedown. It's quite possible that this fight goes the distance and the winner is by way of majority draw. Neither of these fighters wants to go the distance though, so look for a lot of aggression if and when this fight goes to the ground.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: TERRANCE “JACKSON” CLAM DIGGER (19-4-1) of AXIS OF EVIL versus “SCANDINAVIAN ZOMBIE” BALLARD MAGNAR (20-14-1)

From an overview look, Digger is the more skilled fighter but Magnar has been in a lot more fights, so it's possible he can rely on that experience to unbalance the potential lack of skill set compared to Digger. Magnar may look to try and end this fight as soon as possible because the longer this fight goes, the more the advantage sways to Digger's advantage. Digger may very well look to keep this fight standing so he can use his slight height advantage, or he can be patient and choose his spots of where he'll look to take Magnar to the mat. Magnar, on the other hand, may look to try and counter-attack Digger as often as he can to keep Digger off balance and look for that potential one shot to sway the tide of battle or even end it right then and there!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE TEMPEST” DANIEL SPEED (34-13) of THE POLISH EAGLES' NEST versus CHARLIE “WINNING!” SHEEN (24-10-2) of DIRTY OLD COCKSMEN

Am I the only one that sees the humor in Speed versus Sheen, as in Sheen's namesake, being the actor of course, is known to have experience with drugs and speed is one of them? All right, maybe it's just me but either way, both warriors are the same height, so there are no advantages there, but Sheen has a good sized weight advantage so don't be surprised if he chooses to lock Speed into a clinch so he can lean that weight on him. Speed may try to take Sheen to the ground and look for the finish there, but he has shown that he has the skills to be effective in the standup and on the ground, so look for him to be aggressive from the very start! Sheen doesn't give me the impression that he's a patient fighter so this fight may be brutal and bloody very early in, which the crowd would love of course!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: ORPO JOKINEN (14-7) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus ICHIRO “WAR MACHINE” TAKAHASHI (21-12-1) of CONVICTED INC.

Having the last name of Jokinen carries certain weight and expectations with it, and in this battle, Orpo has his work cut out for him! Takahashi not only brings more experience but he's also known to truly enjoy fighting, and with his height advantage, don't be surprised if he chooses to use his boxing and Muay Thai skills as often as possible, maybe even locking Jokinen into a clinch and unleashing damage! Jokinen is obviously very capable of holding his own and he may opt to try and take this to the ground where he can negate the height advantage and use his weight advantage to keep Takahashi from using his assumed standup advantage and maybe even frustrate Takahashi.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: JIA “PIE” O CONNOR (16-5) versus MARKO TORTURO (37-17-4) of EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

O Connor likes to knock his opponent's out and he doesn't like to fight for an entire fight. Torturo has been in so many fights that there isn't anything he hasn't done, and he'll be right at home in this fight because he knows O Connor will look to crack his jaw with a vicious punch to end the fight early! O Connor can't be too aggressive because Torturo knows how to use that against him and if he's not careful, he'll find himself in trouble very quickly! Physically these men match up very well so skills and will determines the winner of this battle. If O Connor isn't able to end the fight early then look for Torturo to win by unanimous decision.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE PINK PANTHER” BORIS GREGOROVITSJ (10-5) of CONVICTED INC. versus RUFUS SPEED (15-6) of TEAM CONQUER

Speed, no relation to Daniel Speed, has obviously won a good number of fights, but the ones that he has lost have mainly been by knockout. Gregorovitsj has also done pretty well for himself but his losses have mainly been by unanimous decision. It seems to me that Gregorovitsj will want to keep this fight standing where he can allow his educated fists and feet to keep Speed from taking him to the mat! Speed will probably want to try and take this fight to the ground where he has a good chance to control the action while keeping himself safe, particularly from a knockout. He has enough experience to know how to avoid being damaged on the ground so that's probably the best avenue for him to take. Of note, Gregorovitsj has that shirt on that will cause conniptions if people aren't careful.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: SEPPO HOVI (9-4) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus RANDY ORTON (27-8-2)

In a nutshell, Hovi wants to keep this fight standing while Orton wants to take this fight to the ground! That may be a bit ironic for some fight fans because Orton obviously has quite the height advantage, but he has proven to be effective on the ground so he may try to setup Hovi at a distance then shoot in for the takedown. Hovi will want to eliminate the height advantage as quickly as possible so he may choose to try and get into a clinch with Orton so he can work on sapping his energy with body strikes while minimizing the height advantage. Orton could look for that and try to take Hovi down with a trip takedown or a body throw, so this fight will be a struggle early on in my opinion.

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: “FLYING HIGH” SEVENT SEAGULL (24-17-4) of GRABTHE.INFO versus “WACKY” ZACHARIAH WAYNE (21-14-1) of CHILDREN OF THE LAW OF ONE

The concluding confrontation of the night brings a veteran who has struggled lately in Seagull versus Wayne who recently lost a Majority Decision battle. Both warriors definitely want to turn around their recent misfortunes and this will add intrigue and motivation to the fight, no doubt. Physically they match up very well so fight planning, preparation and desire will be key to win this fight. The experience factor for both is plenty and nearly equal, so there won't be any actions in the cage that will surprise either man. Don't be surprised if this fight goes the distance folks.

Sisu Fights #26 Review written by Furious Styles

JUNE 28, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Greetings and salutations ladies and gentlemen, I hope all of you are well. This is Furious Styles once again providing another review of an exciting and very telling Sisu Fights event! I hope all of you enjoyed the night of mixed martial arts action and as always, buckle down and get ready, because there is much to cover. As always…let’s get down to business!

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: CORMAC GUTZ (19-7-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “MR. HAMMERSTONE” TYLER RICHARDS (29-7) of the FINNFIGHTERS

This was a tremendous battle for the Middleweight Championship as Gutz defended his title against Richards! Both men have a great deal of respect for one another and this fight was experience and power versus ability and power. I believe everyone expected a struggle for maintaining dominant positioning and will so what we witnessed was right in line with that. Richards drew first blood with a picture perfect three-punch combination that sliced Richards above his right eye and let him know that he was in for a battle! Richards was able to take the fight to the ground but that didn’t last long, and once on its feet again, Gutz did a bit of an undecided clinch dance but was effective in doing so nonetheless, so he moved ahead on the score cards to end the round.

In Round 2, Gutz went back to the clinch where he felt he had success in landing effective strikes as well as being able to better control Richards there as opposed to trying to do so on the ground. The round ended with Gutz again ahead on the score cards and Richards knew he had to step up the level of aggression to swing the momentum in his favor. Round 3 is where Richards did exactly what he needed to do in terms of his aggression, and though the fight remained on its feet the majority of the time, where Gutz was doing quite well, Richards pushed through and outfought Gutz. Near the end of the round he took the fight to the ground for good measure and finished the round strongly to take the round.

Round 4 saw both men slow down their level of activity considerably and with the more deliberate pace, Richards was able to take Gutz to the mat again and methodically control him while positioning himself for the attempted finish. Richards sensed that Gutz still had a lot left in the tank so he only attempted one submission to keep Gutz off balance and guessing. Gutz obviously didn’t tap out but it was enough for Richards to continue controlling the action on the ground and to take the round as well.

Heading into the final round, both men knew what was on the line and their corners got in their respective faces to remind them of it, just in case. In a bit of a surprise, it was Richards who locked Gutz into a clinch and was able to be effective in the clinch until Gutz broke free from it. Gutz decided to go back into the clinch to try and outpoint Richards like he was able to do in the first 2 rounds, but a brutal right uppercut from Richards in the clinch dazed Gutz big time and did enough damage to sway the judges to his side and thus, Richards became the NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION! The crowd gave them a standing ovation and Gutz was very respectful in giving Richards his respects.

LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: “KRUEL” KALE KUMMOLA (17-6) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus FRANK “FAST HANDS” REYNOLDS (25-9-3) of the FINNFIGHTERS

With the Lightweight Championship on the line, this inter-Alliance battle was very intense because of the obvious desire to want to become a champion, but to also have Alliance bragging rights was icing on the cake! These two went at it tooth and nail and I have no doubt that the FinnFighters were proud all the way around of both fighters.

Round 1 was a fireworks show in the standup! Fists and feet flew and the ones that landed did damage to both men. There was solid defense on display for certain, but there were a few clean shots that gave both fighters the feeling that they would be able to knock out the other man. Kummola really put a lot of work into low kicks and even taunted Reynolds a bit after a clean right cross. Reynolds let Kummola he had better be on his toes as well with some accurate and punishing strikes. Kummola took the fight to the ground near the end of the round to secure it on the judges’ cards.

Round 2 began on its feet and mainly in the clinch where Reynolds settled in and was able to slow Kummola down with some timely punches while making him expend energy while trying to escape the clinch. Kummola was able to finally break the clinch and, thinking better of it, took the fight to the ground again where he tried to control Reynolds and even make him tap, but Reynolds was moving well, avoided the submission attempt and finished the round strongly to take it on points. Round 3 definitely favored Reynolds because the majority of it was on its feet and he was beginning to settle in and get comfortable, which spelled bad news for Kummola! Kummola could sense that Reynolds was beginning to get into a groove so he took the fight to the ground again, but Reynolds was on top of his grappling game and again avoided being tapped out by Kummola and avoided damage as well to take the round.

Reynolds locked in on Kummola in Round 4 and after a textbook left jab followed by a jaw-wrenching right hook, Reynolds was all over Kummola and he grounded-and-pounded until the referee had seen enough! Reynolds became the NEW LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION and the warriors shook hands before leaving the cage.

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: JRYSKA “DR.” VELMU (39-15-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus SHAWN WEXLER (22-11) of TEAM OUTKAST

One very experienced veteran versus another seasoned veteran was the theme of this fight and each man showed us why they have accomplished all that they have! This was also a matter of who would land the most damaging strike or painful submission first, and we saw just about every type of submission maneuver known to man and the crowd loved it because each man possesses a great deal of knowledge in both applying and defending submissions.

Round 1 was full of energy and there we saw a multitude of submission attempts from both warriors as they tried to end the fight early, but neither of them was able to make the other tap, but Wexler was able to pull ahead on the score cards because of his better control on the ground. Round 2 was far slower in terms of submission attempts but the struggle to control positioning was excellent and much appreciated by the crowd! Strategy, patience, desire and knowledge were on display from both fighters and it was Velmu who was able to win the round due to his abilities.

Velmu began to build confidence heading into Round 3 and felt he had found something from Round 2 that Wexler struggled to deal with. Once Velmu was able to maneuver himself into dominant positioning on the ground, he let his fists fly from the mount and that was all she wrote! The ref dove in to stop the fight and Velmu earned the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: TERRANCE “JACKSON” CLAM DIGGER (20-4-1) of AXIS OF EVIL versus “SCANDINAVIAN ZOMBIE” BALLARD MAGNAR (20-15-1)

Magnar entered this battle with more experience but I believe Digger came in with more momentum. Both men had similar numbers in terms of wins, but Digger just seemed to be on a roll and he proved me correct! Round 1 was definitely a struggle for both fighters and though they fared well in the standup, the indecision to stay in the clinch or not seemed to keep both of them off guard. Despite the awkward feel of the opening round, Magnar was able to put together enough effective strikes to take the round.

Round 2 definitely went Digger’s way because he was able to take the fight to the ground, keep it there, and despite not being able to make Magnar tap out, he was able to control the action and thus, took the round on the score cards. Heading into Round 3, both men knew that whoever won the round would win the fight, bottom line. Round 3 turned out to be very frustrating for Magnar! Not only did Digger again take the fight to the ground and control the action there, but even when the referee forced the men to stand and fight again, Digger was able to be the more effective striker and won the round. Ultimately Digger won this battle by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE TEMPEST” DANIEL SPEED (35-13) of THE POLISH EAGLES' NEST versus CHARLIE “WINNING!” SHEEN (24-11-2) of DIRTY OLD COCKSMEN

In a fight of the more interesting names in the sport, “Winning!” came into this fight looking to knock off the very good veteran in Speed, but unfortunately for Sheen, he was not winning this battle! Much to the audiences delight, both men bled and that’s always worth the price of admission for many of our adoring fans…the twisted sickos! In the opening round, Sheen had Speed bleeding quite badly with damaging, crushing punches to his left eye, with the exception of one harmless looking pitter patter left jab that still caused the blood to flow! Speed made Sheen pour the crimson with a sharp left hook, head-snapping right uppercut that opened a cut above Sheen’s right eye. In a very tough round to judge, it seemed Speed managed to win the round despite looking like a horror movie victim.

Round 2 saw Sheen pour enough blood to donate to any local Red Cross! Speed’s fists flew, Sheen poured blood like a large vat of stew, and one final devastating right hand that sent Sheen to the mat like he was shot by a shotgun was the one that made the fight through! See what I did there? Pretty good huh? Oh never mind! Speed won this Friday the 13th looking fight by TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: ORPO JOKINEN (14-8) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus ICHIRO “WAR MACHINE” TAKAHASHI (22-12-1) of CONVICTED INC.

Very simply, Takahashi was locked in for this fight from start to finish, and Jokinen simply couldn’t mount much of an attack against him. When the fight was on its feet, Takahashi utilized his height advantage well and when the fight went to the ground, despite both warriors looking to make the other tap, Takahashi had the better defensive technique, smoother transitions and overall control of the fight. Takahashi won this battle by UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: JIA “PIE” O CONNOR (17-5) versus MARKO TORTURO (37-18-4) of EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

I thought for certain that O Connor would go for the knockout early in this match, so needless to say I was one of many people in attendance who were surprised to see him take the fight to the ground. Torturo was enjoying a lot of success with his punches and boxing ability, especially in the opening round, so it was a role reversal from what I expected. This was the approach for the entire fight and fortunately for O Connor, it worked well enough to overcome the boxing and grappling skills that Torturo possesses to win this fight by way of UNANIMOUS DECISION!

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE PINK PANTHER” BORIS GREGOROVITSJ (10-6) of CONVICTED INC. versus RUFUS SPEED (16-6) of TEAM CONQUER

This was a difficult and close fight for both men because of the pace involved. The majority of the fight was spent battling for ground positioning with intermittent submission attempts, so the pace was slower than I think they wanted it to be. For the brief amount of time the fight was spent in the standup, the pace was definitely faster. Potentially the slower pace was due to each fighter not wanting to be the first to make the mistake that costs them dearly, so caution was a bit more prevalent. In the end it was Speed who did enough work in the judges eyes to earn the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: SEPPO HOVI (10-4) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus RANDY ORTON (27-9-2)

Hovi made me look smart with my prediction so I’m appreciative of his efforts! I felt that he would be able to overcome Orton’s height advantage with agility, speed and boxing ability and that’s exactly what he did once the smoke cleared! Orton did what he felt was best and tried to take and keep the fight grounded, but Hovi worked very diligently to get the referee to stand them up once the fight did go to the ground, and he did exactly that. Shortly after that, Orton felt the sting of a beautiful counter left straight that opened a cut above his right eye! Hovi finished out the opening round with confidence and in Round 2, he pressed the issue with determination and energy until he landed two savage punching combinations in a row! Hovi won this fight by KNOCKOUT!

LIGHTWEIGHT BATTLE: “FLYING HIGH” SEVENT SEAGULL (25-17-4) of GRABTHE.INFO versus “WACKY” ZACHARIAH WAYNE (21-15-1) of CHILDREN OF THE LAW OF ONE

Seagull was the man to overcome recent struggles that both of these battle-hardened veterans were experiencing! Wayne opened up a rivulet of blood with a brutal right uppercut that nailed Seagull above his left eye and sent him the message that he’s dealing with a capable warriors. A right hook in Round 2 was Seagull’s way of returning the favor and Wayne saw his blood streak down his face from above his left eye! Seagull finished out the final round by letting his fists fly and he defended well enough to move ahead of Wayne for the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!
