I think at the time Sisu Fights is one of the very best organizations in game! Good job done by the owner.

Thnaks mate. I've been quite busy irl lately but it should get easier soon. When I have more time on my hands I'll probably start doing fighter interviews and possible bring back the Sisu News concept I tried a while back.

SF18 Kummola VS Digger Preview

Hello fight fans and welcome to the SF18 Kummola VS Digger Preview Talk show! On Saturday Sisu Fights will be down at the Kallio Dome in Helsinki where 10,000 tickets will be up for grabs to watch SF18: Kummola VS Digger

Fight 1: Jose Salcedo (28-19-0) VS Hjalmar Thorhalla (21-16-0)

Salcedo will be making his debut in Sisu Fights! He is coming off the back of a loss and will be looking to impress in his first fight, he’ll need to be careful not to get caught though as he has been TKO/KO’d in 16 of his 19 losses and he is coming up against someone who does have the power to put people to sleep. Thorhalla has recently signed with a new manager to try and get his career back on track and with 2 wins in 3 of his Sisu Fights he is defiantly doing pretty well here in Sisu Fights.

Fight 2: Hellio James (31-19-0) VS Kenny McCormick (11-4-0)

James is now on a four fight losing streak in which all the fights he has lost by stoppage so he will be very low of confidence at the moment. He is yet to pick up a win in Sisu Fights so he will be hoping to do so here. McCormick is too not on a great run; he has lost his last 2 fights and is also yet to pick up his first fight in Sisu fights, who will get their first win here?

Fight 3: Davor Velcic (28-15-0) VS Zachariah Wayne (20-13-1)

This will be Velcic’s third fight in Sisu Fights and his first fight saw him get an impressive TKO victory but his last fight he lost by decision so he will be hoping to prove his worth here and walk away with the win. Wayne is on a two fight losing streak so he will definitely be looking to walk away with an impressive win to get his career back on track.

Fight 4: Seppo Hovi (8-3-0) VS Giampaolo Pietravallo (9-3-0)

Both these fighters made their SIsu Fights debuts against each other and it was Pietravallo who walked away with an impressive decision victory so there’s no doubt that Pietravallo will be confident going into this fight. Both fighters lost their last fights so they’ll both be looking to bounce back and although Pietravallo took the first fight Hovi did she he can hurt Pietravallo in that fight so this could turn out to be a very good, close fight!

Fight 5: Numero Cero (26-14-1) VS Usko Luttinen (17-9-0)

Cero won his last fight with a close decision victory and he will be looking to start a winning streak with his first fight in Sisu Fights. Luttinen also won his last fight after losing his first two fights in Sisu Fights and now he will be full of confidence and ready to prove he is worth a contender position in this division! This one is set to go the distance!

Fight 6: Simo Silakka (22-16-0) VS Cain Marko (39-21-0)

Both fighters in this fight have knockout power so expect to see fireworks in this fight! Silakka lost his first fight in Sisu fights by decision to MMA veteran Daniel Speed so the crashforce hall of famer will be looking to get his first Sisu Fights win in this fight. Marko is on a two fight winning streak and looking very strong with four wins in his last four fights. A win here could see him pushed back towards another title shot.

Fight 7: Felix Sandoval (15-3-0) VS Atlas Kivi (21-13-1)

Sandoval is on an excellent five fight winning streak with three submission stoppages in this five wins. He will be looking to get a win here in his Sisu Fights debut to potentially get him a crack at the title! Kivi will need to use his boxing to keep Sandoval at bay and score himself some points to take home the victory.

Fight 8: Cooper Abreu VS Orpo Jokinen

12 of Abreu’s 17 victories have come by way of TKO/KO so he is a very dangerous opponent to be facing. After an impressive win in his last fight he decided to come over to Sisu Fights. Jokinen will be making his fifth appearance here in Sisu Fights with a record of 2-2. He is currently full of confidence and on a two fight winning streak which saw him beat two very strong opponents, this will be a very good, close fight!

Co Main Event: Doctor Greenthumb (18-7-0) VS Frank Reynolds (22-9-3)

Greenthumb scored an impressive submission victory in his last fight and he will be looking to do the same in this fight as he has the superior BJJ skills of the two fighters. Frank Reynolds recently fought for the title and ended up getting submitted in the first round as the champion walked away with the belt safely wrapped round his waist once again. Reynolds will need to keep the fight standing if he wants to walk away with a win in this fight! The winner of this could well be heading towards a crack at the title.

Main Event: Kale Kummola (16-4-0) VS Terrance Clam Digger (19-2-1)

The main event of the night will see Kummola look to defend his Lightweight championship for the fourth time in a row.

Already defended his title three times Kummola and with four stoppage victories in a row in sisu Fights he has proved to be a dominate figure in the Lightweight division. He is on a five fight winning streak in total and looking unstoppable as he reigns at the top of the division.

Terrance Clam Digger is on a six fight undefeated streak with five decision wins and one draw, he is looking very impressive and instantly jumps in with a title shot in his Sisu Fights debut.

Neither fighter has ever been KO’d so this could defiantly be one that goes the full 25 minutes!

SF18 Kummola VS Digger Review

Hello fight fans and welcome to the SF18 Kummola VS Digger Review Talk show!

Fight 1: Jose Salcedo (28-19-0) VS Hjalmar Thorhalla (21-16-0)

Winner: Jose Salcedo by decision.

Thorhalla started the fight strong clearly dominating the first round landing a huge knockdown and cutting his opponent but Salcedo managed to control the fight in the second and third from the ground with good ground control and some submission attempts which saw him take home the victory in a very close decision fight.

Fight 2: Hellio James (31-19-0) VS Kenny McCormick (11-4-0)

Winner: Kenny McCormick by TKO in 3:59 of round 3

McCormick dominated from start to finish in this fight with accurate striking, both fighters looked to keep the fight standing but James’s accuracy just wasn’t there. James did manage to rock McCormick in the first but he stayed on steady leads and then caught James and cut James. It then came in the third round when McCormick made James’s lack of accuracy pay with a lovely counter punch that sent James to the canvas. McCormick then followed up with deadly ground and pound that forced the referee to jump in and stop the fight.

Fight 3: Davor Velcic (28-15-0) VS Zachariah Wayne (20-13-1)

Winner: Zachariah Wayne by TKO in 4:58 of round 2

Velcic quickly took the fight to the ground in the first round where he looked to use ground and pound over his opponent yet the majority of it was pretty inaccurate but he did manage to land some nice strikes on Wayne. The second then saw Wayne land a takedown and after 3 failed submission attempts he began to start working his ground and pound and after a few big shots Velcic began to curl up as Wayne round down on him and the referee decided to jump in and stop the fight.

Fight 4: Seppo Hovi (8-3-0) VS Giampaolo Pietravallo (9-3-0)

Winner: Giampaolo Pietravallo by decision

Pietravallo dominated all three rounds with excellent ground work, with a 100% takedown success rate his wrestling skills looked very impressive on the night and there was not much Hovi could do to stop him. Hovi had the better of the stand up exchanges but it wouldn’t take long for Pietravallo to slam Hovi back onto the matt. Pietravallo then used ground strikes to score points and show his dominance in the fight.

Fight 5: Numero Cero (26-14-1) VS Usko Luttinen (17-9-0)

Winner: Numero Cero by decision

Numero Cero took all three rounds on the judges’ score cards by using vicous and accurate body kicks to slow his opponent down and score some big points for himself. Although Luttinen may have been the slightly more active of the two fighters his accuracy in his striking just wasn’t there as both fighters looked to go toe-to-toe and keep the fight standing. Accuracy was the name of the game for Cero and it saw him take home a very impressive win.

Fight 6: Simo Silakka (22-16-0) VS Cain Marko (39-21-0)

Winner: Silakka by KO in 20:05 of round 1

Silakka scored himself another very impressive KO victory here which saw him also earn the KO of the night award, both fighters were known for the knockout power and they both came out looking to use that power from the bell. It was Marko who scored first as he countered Silakka with a wonderful flying knee that sent Silakka to the canvas. Silakka managed to recover though and then it was his turn as he landed a killer hook that left Marko out cold on his back! A very strong win for Silakka over a very strong opponent.

Fight 7: Felix Sandoval (15-3-0) VS Atlas Kivi (21-13-1)

Winner: Atlas Kivi by decision

Both fighters wanted to keep the fight on the ground and that’s exactly where the majority of it stayed but it managed to be Kivi who just got the better of it in what was a very close decision victory for him. Sandoval won the first round with a strong takedown and some ground and pound but Kivi came back in the second as he landed a takedown and controlled the fight from top position, although Sandoval tried to work for a submission a few times Kivi proved to be a slipper customer as he escaped all the attempts threw at him. The third then saw the same as Kivi took home the win.

Fight 8: Cooper Abreu VS Orpo Jokinen

Winner: Cooper Abreu by decision

In what was a slow paced fight it was ground control that meant Abreu took home the win. They both wanted the fight on the ground but when it got their neither of them did much, they both attempted a few submission attempts but neither were successful in those and both threw a few but hardly any strikes. In what was a slow paced, not much action fight it was Abreu’s ground control that managed to get him the decision victory.

Co Main Event: Doctor Greenthumb (18-7-0) VS Frank Reynolds (22-9-3)

Winner: Frank Reynolds by TKO in 2:27 of round 3.

In what was a very entertaining fight it was Frank Reynolds who managed to take home the win with a TKO victory in the co-main event of the night. Reynolds managed to cut his opponent very early in the fight with a nice right hand as he got the better of the stand up. Then Greenthumb pushed through with a takedown and took the fight to the ground. Reynolds instantly started working for a sweep as the hit the ground and after a scramble he managed to come out in top position where he then began to try and throw some ground and pound but then Greenthumb ended up using a butterfly sweep to get back on top as both fighters showed off their very impressive and technical ground skills. The second round saw much of the same but it was halfway through the third when Reynolds landed a beauty of an uppercut that rocked Greenthumb and as Reynolds kept landing strikes Greenthumb just didn’t have time to recover before Reynolds cracked him again which put him on the canvas and Reynolds followed up with more strikes which forced the referee to jump in and stop the fight.

Main Event: Kale Kummola (16-4-0) VS Terrance Clam Digger (19-2-1)

Winner: Kale Kummola by decision

The main event saw Kummola successfully defend his title once again in what turned out to be the fight of the night!

In what was a very close fight it was once again ground control that took home the win. Both fighters wanted the fight on the ground and that’s where it stayed for the majority of the time and although they both worked for submissions on various occasions none of their attempts mounted to anything successful. Kummola just managed to be the more active and the more accurate of the two fighters which saw him take home the win and the belt!

SF19 Velmu VS Wer Preview

Hello fight fans and welcome to the SF19 Velmu VS Wer Preview Talk show! On Saturday Sisu Fights will be down at the Suomi International Arena in Helsinki where 19,500 tickets will be up for grabs to watch SF19!

Fight 1: Mikael Lindel (20-16-0) VS Timo Vaconcelos (9-5-0)

Lindel is on a terrible four fight losing streak and has been finished in all four of those losses. He has a big experience advantage over his opponent so he will want to use that to get his career back on track and get himself the win. Vaconcelos won his last fight with an impressive TKO win and with his opponents terrible run of form he’ll be looking to pick up his second win and hand Lindel his fifth successive loss.

Fight 2: Jima Jamm (17-5-1) VS Eyeonly Fuckwell (20-12-1)

Jamm is on a two fight losing streak and is yet to pick up a win here in Sisu Fights. Fuckwell is also yet to pick up a win in Sisu Fights yet having been knocked out in his last fight but he is the more experienced of the two and the slightly more skilled so he’ll be confident of his chances going into this fight.

Fight 3: Nathan Speed (21-11-0) VS Johnnie Stalker (25-13-2)

Nathan Speed has been having a terrible time since joining with Sisu Fights having lost all three of his fights here that put an end to his three fight winning streak he had mounted before joining the organisation. Stalker is on a terrible four fight losing streak and is yet to pick up a win here in Sisu having already had two fights here. Both fighters are in desperate need of a win in this fight.

Fight 4: Sevent Seagull VS Umberto Sotto JR

Seagull lost his first fight in Sisu Fights by getting knocked clean out in the third round of the bout, Seagull will need to hope his chin holds up in this bout as its shown weakness’s in his career with 13 of his 16 losses coming by way of TKO. Sotto started his career in Sisu Fights with two very impressive wins but he has since lost his last two fights and is in need of a win, his power should see him through in this fight though with all of his 13 wins coming by TKO/KO finishes he has excellent power and he is coming up against a fighter who’s chin has proved questionable in previous bouts.

Fight 5: Vlad Kersikov (16-5-1) VS Kalle Reinikainen (32-17-0)

Kersikov is on a two fight winning streak and just go a debut win here in Sisu Fights but he will have a tough time in this fight coming up against a much more experienced opponent who is also known for his knockout power, something Kersikov is not. Reinikainen is current 2-1 in Sisu Fights and with 25 knockouts from his 35 wins he possesses a lot of power and has the ability to put any fighter to sleep. A win here could get Reinikainen another crack the title.

Fight 6: Stephen Hawking (38-17-0) VS Luke Jones (14-5-1)

Since joining Sisu Fights Stephen Hawking has impressed with three strong decision wins in his three fights here. Another win here will see him pushed closer towards a shot at the division title. Jones is currently 2-2 in SIsu Fights and he is coming up against a strong opponent who has a wealth of experience over him, Jones’s key to victory will be to take this fight to the ground and tap Hawking out.

Fight 7: Moacyr Domingos De Matos VS Marko Torturo

De Matos has gone three fights undefeated and is yet to be beat in his two fights he has had at Sisu Fights. Torturo is currently 1-1-1 in Sisu Fights and having faced De Matos in his last fight which ended a draw he’ll be looking to resolve the issue and get a win here. Both fighters battled it out in their last fight which ended a draw and won them both the fight of the night award. Both will be looking to pick up the win to say they are the better fighter.

Fight 8: Brutaali Keijo (24-15-2) VS Woima Karhu (22-12-0)

The fan favourite Keijo will be gutted after losing his title in his last fight that he had successfully defended two times previous to that bout. He’ll be hoping to get a win here to be able to get another shot at the title he has just lost and be able to claim back what he feels is rightfully his. Karhu is on a two fight winning streak since joining Sisu Fights with two wins over very strong opponents. Niether fighter is especially know for finishing fights so expect this fight to go the whole distance and expect an excellent clash!

Co Main Event: Hajalmar Soderberg (21-7-0) VS Jia O Conner (15-4-0)

The co-main event of the night will see Hajalmar Soderberg take on Jia O Conner in the light-heavyweight division.

Soderberg has picked up two very impressive submission victories in a row since joing with Sisu Fights, once of which gained him a submission of the night award. A win here for the very popular fighter could see him shot into the number one contender spot. This will be O Conner’s first fight in Sisu Fight’s so he’ll be looking to pull off his best performance possible in order to show the division who is coming for the title. Soderbergs key to victory in this fight will be his BJJ skills where he has a massive advantage over his opponent.

Main Event: Jyrska Velmu (38-14-1) VS Flo Wer (21-7-0)

The main event of the night will see Velmu look to defend his title for the first time against Wer.

This will be Velmu’s first defence of the title after winning it in his last fight win an impressive second round win. He is 2-1 in Sisu Fights and will be hoping his reign as champion can stay. Wer is looking strong and is on a three fight winning streak with a very impressive first round TKO victory in his last fight. Although he is slightly less experienced than Velmu he still has a lot of experience behind him. This one is set to be a cracker!

Sisu Fights #20: PIKKU versus KATSU PREVIEW written by Furious Styles

MAY 17, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Well, well, well, look who has popped up in Helsinki! This is your roving writer, Furious Styles, fresh off the plane from the United States! I’m ready to bring to you the action and fresh, new, young blood that is fast rising in Helsinki! I know one aspect of business I’ll need to adjust to, besides the weather and culture of course, is being able to spell these Nordic names correctly. Wow, talk about a writing workout! So, without further ado, let’s get down to business!

FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: “PORON KUSEMA” PIKKU NAKARAINEN (32-14-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE BLOND” KATSU HIGASHIKUNI (28-15-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

This main event promises to be hard hitting, bone bruising, and downright nasty! To add to the flavor, it’s also an inter-Alliance battle, one of many on this fight card, so bragging rights will definitely be prominent in this war! Nakarainen has been in a lot of wars and has obviously won a great many of them. Despite having various unanimous decision fights, he has also shown the ability to finish an opponent with a brutal submission, so Higashikuni had better be prepared if and when this fight goes to the ground!

However, Higashikuni has also proven to be rather adept on the ground so this definitely throws a wrinkle into the approach for this fight! With a definite height advantage over the champ, Higashikuni may rely upon softening up Nakarainen as much as possible before trying to take the fight to the ground for the submission, should he so choose to do so. Nakarainen’s determination and Red belt skills may cause Higashikuni to keep this fight standing as long as possible, however.

The bottom line of this fight will simply be which combatant wants it more than the other! Both men are basically equally skilled in every aspect of mixed martial arts so at the very least, the crowd will be treated to one hell of a championship title defense that will leave them talking and expressing themselves on social media for years!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “GRANITE BREAKER” EMEKA SHAKUR (40-15-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE JUGGERNAUT” DeANGELO KENNER (25-9) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE

Shakur has the height advantage as well as the experience, while Kenner has the weight advantage and perhaps the energy advantage, due to being six years younger, but either way, Shakur has proven to be one of the best in the business! Kenner definitely has his work cut out for him but this is a huge opportunity for him to propel himself into a possible Heavyweight Championship fight so the motivation is very clear in this fight.

Shakur has been involved in a lot of battles resulting in knockouts as well, be they from his hands or not, so he’s fully aware of what intense battles mean! Kenner has also been down the path of brutality but may very well try to avoid trading bombs with Shakur and will instead look to take this fight to the ground where he may be able to use said weight advantage in controlling Shakur, and possibly locking him into a submission!

This will definitely be a very tough fight for both men involved and it may boil down to aggression. If Shakur comes out very aggressive and looks for the early knockout, Kenner will have to weather that onslaught to have a chance. The longer this fight goes, the more possibility Kenner can pull off the victory as Shakur may slow down a bit and Kenner can press his weight on Shakur, making him spend more energy than he’d like to. This will be a tremendous fight!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: SEBASTIEN “SNAKE OUT OF GOTHENBURG” LINNE (36-16) versus “THE UNFORGIVEN” KAUKO PARTIO (35-19-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Right off the bat I have to wonder if Partio is either a huge Metallica fan, hence the nickname, or he has a history that may cause some to be a bit wary? Either way, both of these warriors have numerous fights under their belts and the determination they have shown has allowed them to endure so many battles. Much to his credit, Linne continues to fight against very good opponents despite being 40 years old and I respect that a great deal.

Linne has the obvious height and weight advantage for this contest so it will be up to him to utilize those advantages to the best of his ability. Partio will have to rely upon his excellent footwork, speed and agility to try and get in close to Linne and unleash ferocious strikes to keep the bigger man off balance! Linne recently had a four fight win streak snapped by Pikku Nakarainen so he’s looking to get back on the winning side of things. A recent victory over Luke Jones helped Partio snap a three fight losing streak and he definitely does not want to slide back into the loss column!

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: BRUCE “THE DAMAGE” McBAIN (36-22) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus LUCA “SCRAPATUTTI” TURILLI (21-12-1) of the STEEL PENN ALLIANCE

McBain’s recent victory over Kalle Reinikainen secured the Middleweight Championship and he now has his first defense against the exuberant Turilli! Both warriors carry a two fight win streak with them so not only will one of them be the Middleweight Champion once all is said and done, but one of them will have to begin a new fight streak and I have a feeling neither of these men wants to endure that!

McBain has an obvious in-ring experience advantage but that could very well be minimized by the potent striking power that Turilli brings! Both of these men have been involved in many brutal battles, be they the victor or the loser, and the majority of them have been a form of a knockout, so in the blink of an eye, either one of these fighters can end the others’ night very quickly, and very painfully!

Turilli may opt to rely upon his height and weight advantage to keep this fight standing as much as possible, because McBain’s skill on the ground could prove to be his undoing should the fight to the canvas. McBain’s ability and experience will allow him to be very comfortable in any given situation, but I think the champion will want to keep this fight on the ground as much as possible to try and tap out the larger Turilli! Either way this is going to be one hell of a title fight so be sure not to miss it!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE TEMPEST” DANIEL SPEED (33-12) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE PHENOM” VEIKKO RASTILA (18-3-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

It seems inevitable that a great fight card has one fight where an inter-Alliance battle takes place, and that’s exactly what we have here! Speed – sort of an ironic last name for a Heavyweight in my opinion – has quite a bit of fight experience, as you can tell by his seemingly permanently bruised face, and that will play a big factor in this fight as I see it.

Rastila has been nothing short of impressive during his career thus far so take nothing away from him whatsoever! He definitely has the ability to finish this fight quickly if Speed isn’t careful and Speed can’t afford to underestimate him at any cost! In my opinion, Speed will want to keep this fight on its feet and will want to stick and move to the best of his ability. He is at a height and weight disadvantage so he’ll have to wear down the bigger Rastila if he has any hopes of emerging the victor.

Rastila will probably look to end this fight quickly and may very well rely upon his standup skills to take full advantage of his height and reach, but he may try to surprise Speed by taking the fight to the ground where he could use that large weight advantage by making Speed carry his weight while trying avoid taking damage or being submitted!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: ICHIRO “WAR MACHINE” TAKAHASHI (21-10-1) of CONVICTED INC. versus SHAWN WEXLER (21-9) of TEAM OUTKAST

Takahashi brings a very slight edge in fight experience into this battle but basically, both of these accomplished warriors have achieved the same level of success throughout their Tycoon careers. Though Takahashi is the slightly shorter and lighter combatant in this match, he has demonstrated an ability to end fights in any way given, recently snapping a two fight losing streak by nearly snapping the right arm of Kevin Garnett while making him tap out!

Wexler has proven himself to be very dangerous on the ground and his Red belt is testament to that! He brings a three fight winning streak into this fight and will rely upon that momentum to carry him through against a tough, seasoned veteran. One would assume that Takahashi will want to keep this fight standing where he may have a slight speed and standup ability advantage, while Wexler may try to take this to the canvas as fast as possible to try and control and potentially submit Takahashi.

This fight will definitely be one to watch as the chess match will play a major factor in the winner of this battle! Who will take advantage of the opponent’s mistakes the best? Which fighter will be able to bait his opponent into doing what he truly wants him to do? Only time will tell! One thing is for certain: Takahashi has the colorful tattoo advantage. Just take a look at his self-promoting outfit.

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: ORI “THE STALLION” JOKINEN (14-9) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “NIGHTSTALKER” RICARDO RAMIREZ (23-13) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Apparently named after the convicted killer, Richard Ramirez, Ricardo has no doubt been telling his fellow FinnFighter alliance mate that he’s going to mess him up in the cage! Jokinen has had a respectable career thus far, but overcoming Ramirez may very well prove to be his toughest outing to date. His youth and lighter weight may allow him to be more aggressive than he normally has been and could potentially keep Ramirez off balance enough to land effective strikes and get out of harm’s way.

Ramirez could very well look to take this fight to the ground where he can methodically slow down the youthful exuberance of Jokinen while controlling the fight, but that may prove to be more difficult than expected. Again, battling an alliance mate is tough because you train together at times and you know each other’s tendencies, making for a grueling chess match should the fight go the entire length.

MIDDLWEIGHT BATTLE: ILYA “SNAIPERSKAJA VINTOVKA” DRAGUNOV (12-3) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus LUDWIG “GIWDUL” MANRES (25-25)

All right folks, here’s a prime example of me experiencing culture shock! I have no clue as to how to even try and pronounce Dragunov’s nickname, let alone have any idea of what it means. I’ll have to look into getting a translator to help me out because man, I feel like I’m back in high school studying for the SAT’s with this one!

Obviously Dragunov has been doing very well for himself thus far in his MMA career, and he has only been knocked out once! He has proven to have damaging punches and is also capable of finishing fights on the ground if need be. The Swedish Red belt holder has been involved in more fights than some organizations have had in their entire existence! Despite his career numbers being even, underestimating the seasoned veteran can prove to be a very bad move.

Dragunov’s three fight win streak is testament to his hard-earned momentum going into this battle, while Manres is trying to overcome a recent loss to Luca Turilli! Dragunov has the height and weight advantage, and will look to keep this fight standing because he probably doesn’t want to test if he can withstand the outstanding BJJ skills that Manres possesses.

Manres will want to take this to the mat as soon as possible and look for the finish there because I don’t think he would be able to overcome Dragunov in the standup game, though he could prove me wrong of course. Veteran fighters know some tricks of the trade that only come with experience so Manres may be able to play possum and trick Dragunov into doing something he’ll regret.

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: “INHOTTAVA” PENA TRASSELI (20-7) of BIG BADA BUM versus JAMES ASSANGE (22-8)

Perhaps the Alliance meant to call themselves Big Badda Boom, or maybe they’re just poking fun, but either way, Trasseli wil look to represent them well in this fight. The experience factor is similar so I don’t think either warrior will rely upon that too heavily, instead opting to try and impose their will through physical means and ditch the chess game aspect.

Assange has a five pound advantage but I don’t see that as being much of a factor either. I think Assange will try to lock in an aggressive clinch as soon as possible to land some knees and elbows on Trasseli in an effort to slow him down. The last time these two locked horns on April 5, it was Assange who emerged as the victor, so I believe that psychological edge will be a factor in this rebound match. Trasseli has been struggling as of late and he didn’t look all that happy about fighting Assange again, and that could be a major factor because a fighter needs to feel good stepping into that cage!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: KAKE NYRKKI (21-15-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE INSTIGATOR” JAKKE RUUTU (13-6) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The inter-Alliance battle theme continues as these two step into the cage of judgment! Nyrkki will feel right at home in this fight as he has fifteen more fights than Ruutu and has seen and done it all. Nyrkki has a bit of a weight advantage in this contest and Ruutu the height, so we’ll see if either one of these combatants tries to take advantage of that at any point in time. What’s difficult about inter-Alliance fights, aside from one man being able to brag at the next Alliance barbeque, is that the fighters train together and thus, they know one another very well.

It will be hard for either man to fool the other due to that fact, so this may prove to be more of a battle of wills more than anything else. Ruutu may try and wear the veteran down with his energy and efficiency as he has been involved in a good number of unanimous decision battles. Nyrkki has obviously had many of those, but he tends to be involved in battles that end much sooner than the last round, so he may be the aggressor here and try to end it early. All I know is the loser of this fight will have to take some ball busting from other Alliance members plus buy a round of beers. Maybe he’ll even have to wash the victors’ underwear or something. Who knows with these crazy kids?

All right good people, that’s my time and I appreciate you hanging with me for this review. Since this will be the first fight card I witness in Sisu, I will be paying very close attention as I begin to learn about the fighters here along with doing my best to figure out how to pronounce some of these names. Good lord I really need a translator! I hope all of you enjoy the excellent night of action this promises to be and please look out for my review of what went down when the smoke clears after this affair! Also, don’t forget to buy those Perkele items because they are hot and are flying off the shelves! This is Furious Styles signing off, and I’ll see you…at the fights!

Sisu Fights #20: PIKKU versus KATSU REVIEW written by Furious Styles

MAY 17, 2014 SUOMI INTERNATIONAL, HELSINKI 19,500 ATTENDANCE

Hello ladies and gents, I hope all of you are well and you enjoyed the tremendous night of fights we witnessed this past Saturday! Each and every fight kept the fans wanting more and they were raucous throughout the entire night, an indication of their satisfaction of another successful Sisu Fights event! So, without further ado, let’s get down to business!

FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: “PORON KUSEMA” PIKKU NAKARAINEN (33-14-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE BLOND” KATSU HIGASHIKUNI (28-16-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The Main Event featured two battle-tested warriors who had to rely upon outmaneuvering the opponent as opposed to simply overpowering them, and in the end, the Featherweight Champion, Pikku Nakarainen, was able to end the fight with a Triangle submission that came as a surprise both for the fans in attendance as well as for the challenger, Higashikuni!

No one was surprised this fight ended in a submission as both warriors have earned a Red belt in BJJ, but the suddenness in which it happened is what surprised! As expected, this fight didn’t take long to the ground where it became a battle of wills as well as submission maneuvers. Both men displayed tremendous ability in their submission defense, transitions, and overall knowledge of ground fighting and the crowd loved it!

There was sporadic ground-and-pound but in general, each man was determined to make the other tap out and one could see the determination on their faces! Higashikuni seemed to take a moment too long in deciding how he wanted to attempt another submission hold, and Nakarainen snapped up the opportunity as soon as it was open! Once Nakarainen locked his leg around Higashikuni’s head then pulled down, it was sleepy time! Nakarainen defended the Featherweight Championship by way of SUBMISSION VICTORY and also earned Submission of the Night honors!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “GRANITE BREAKER” EMEKA SHAKUR (41-15-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE JUGGERNAUT” DeANGELO KENNER (25-10) of THE BROKEN HALO PRIDE

This fight, as promised, provided quite a bit of strong strikes, damaging combinations, and tremendous skill by both warriors! In the opening round, the standup war was about even as I saw it, and it seems Kenner felt the same way, as he decided to take the fight to the mat early on. Kenner was able to land sporadic ground-and-pound, but largely it was Shakur who was able to defend against those attacks.

Shakur slowed the pace enough to make the referee stand them up and Shakur was able to land some powerful kicks as well as stinging body shot, but it was Kenner who looked to win the opening round. Round 2 was a straight up man-to-man, toe-to-toe war that the crowd ate up! Both combatants landed vicious kicks and punches that definitely did their damage, dropping the opponent to the mat or causing them to show obvious signs of pain and duress!

Shakur nailed Kenner with a nasty right head kick that cut Kenner above his left eye, but he didn’t appear to be badly hurt by that kick. However, that seemed to give Shakur the distance he was seeking and he lined Kenner up for a jaw-crunching right cross that hurt Kenner badly and had his eyes unfocused! Shakur immediately followed up with a devastating left hook that floored Kenner and Shakur leapt on him like a tiger on fallen prey! Shakur unloaded until the referee stopped the action, giving Shakur the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: SEBASTIEN “SNAKE OUT OF GOTHENBURG” LINNE (36-17) versus “THE UNFORGIVEN” KAUKO PARTIO (36-19-2) of the FINNFIGHTERS

As often is the case, Partio was at a pretty large height disadvantage but that means little in martial arts if the shorter man has the heart of a lion and the determination and grit of a warrior! The vast majority of the first round was spent in the standup which was a bit surprising on Partio's part, but he felt confident in his ability to absorb punishment and dish it out. Both fighters landed some solid strikes, especially kicks, which left the opponent hurting and bruised!

Partio increased his aggression in the 2nd round, as evidenced from his takedown from the clinch that Linne just couldn't stop from happening! Once on the ground, Partio very comfortably controlled the action though to his credit, Linne prevented the successful submission from Partio. Still, Partio simply owned the round and the judges completely agreed on that as well.

In the final round, a little more than half of the round was spent in the clinch and both warriors landed some punishing and painful strikes that the opponent couldn't mask! Once again it was Partio who took the fight to the ground but Linne, knowing that he needed to finish Partio to pull out the victory, was the one who aggressively looked for submissions. Partio was ready for that approach and calmly avoided any mistakes while controlling the action, and once the bell rang, it was Partio who earned the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE: BRUCE “THE DAMAGE” McBRAIN (36-23) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus LUCA “SCRAPATUTTI” TURILLI (22-12-1) of the STEEL PENN ALLIANCE

The arena was buzzing with excitement over this Middleweight Championship battle, and rightfully so! Both men looked very focused, but everyone could tell that it was Turilli who looked just a bit hungrier on that night, and they were definitely correct with their observations! This was a punishing, brutal fight for both warriors and each of them spilled blood in an attempt to be champion!

McBrain opened a cut above Turilli's right eye with a stiff left jab that woke Turilli right up! Turilli returned the favor with a right hook that opened a stream of blood above McBrain's left eye that woke him up in turn! The fight was pretty even until Turilli locked in the clinch, then the tide shifted and did so very quickly!

McBrain did very well defending the punches, but when it came to the knees, Turilli was a sharp as a razor with them and he did major damage! For the most part, McBrain was able to protect himself, but the knees that snuck through his defenses sapped his energy because they were right to his stomach and ribs! Turilli finally landed the massive right knee that shook McBrain to his very core and stunned him enough for Turilli to land another brutal right knee that prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight! That stoppage awarded the Middleweight Championship to Turilli, who also earned the KO of the Night honors!

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE: “THE TEMPEST” DANIEL SPEED (34-12) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE PHENOM” VEIKKO RASTILA (18-4-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

Inter-Alliance fights are always fun and interesting, and this was was no different! It was the battle-tested veteran in Speed taking on the up and coming fighter, Rastila. Both fighters came out rather aggressively, with Speed just a bit more so than Rastila, and we were treated to fighters who let it all hang out! Speed began to build a bit of momentum and Rastila sensed that, so he took the fight to the ground where Rastila tried to both submit and land some effective ground-and-pound, but Speed was able to control the action enough to force the referee standup.

Speed tried to take advantage of a clinch but there wasn't enough time nor was Rastila about to cooperate. The 2nd round was a battle of wills in the toe-to-toe war that was unleashed! Each combatant had his moments, but it was a well-timed left head kick that sliced Speed open over his right eye and seemed to bother him just a bit. Rastila was quite accurate to finish the round and Speed appeared a bit frustrated by that. Between rounds, Speed's corner told him he had to finish Rastila, plain and simple.

Speed looked very determined when the bell rang for Round 3, but it was Rastila who seemed to have the upper hand in the standup game! Rastila was able to find his mark with his punches and especially his kicks, stinging Speed often and slowing him down noticeably. Speed was very determined to get his hands on Rastila, however, and when he finally did, he took Rastila to the mat and in the blink of an eye, he had Rastila in a very tight Triangle! Rastila held on as best as he could but Speed had his arm too far extended and Rastila had no choice but to tap out!

Speed was very happy and very exhausted, knowing that he basically snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with his SUBMISSION VICTORY! For their efforts, this battle was awarded Fight of the Night honors!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: ICHIRO “WAR MACHINE” TAKAHASHI (21-11-1) of CONVICTED INC. versus SHAWN WEXLER (22-9) of TEAM OUTKAST

This fight featured two warriors of great skill and ability and they showed said ability, especially once this fight went to the ground! It seemed to me that Takahashi was a bit more effective in the standup portion of this fight, but that didn't last too long as both fighters were determined to outdo the other in the wrestling and BJJ aspect! First it was Wexler who took the fight to the mat but wasn't able to dominate like he wanted to.

After forcing the referee standup and a further solid exchange between these two, it was Takahashi who decided to try his luck again on the ground and took Wexler down but he was unable to do any major damage before the round ended. However, Takahashi was deemed the more effective fighter by all three judges.

In the 2nd round, it was Wexler who was extremely determined to showcase his hard-earned Red belt, and after defending against Takahashi's submission attempt, he was able to maneuver himself into position to lock in a nasty Kimura that Takahashi was just half-a-second too slow in defending! Takahashi fought it as best as he could but he was forced to tap out, giving the SUBMISSION VICTORY to Wexler!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: ORI “THE STALLION” JOKINEN (15-9) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “NIGHTSTALKER” RICARDO RAMIREZ (23-14) of the FINNFIGHTERS

We had another round of inter-Alliance fights with this one and it was an entertaining battle for certain! Both warriors said to hell with going to the ground for a submission or ground-and-pound attempt, we want to stand and test one another's ability to dish out and take punishment! Both men landed some thudding, thunderous shots that made the crowd gasp and cheer for more, but it was Ramirez who landed the brain-rattling right hook that stunned Jokinen! Jokinen was in trouble for about one minute but to his credit, he hung tough and was able to gather himself to finish the round.

In the 2nd round, Jokinen was far more focused after tasting that nasty hook, and he definitely stepped his game up! He was the warrior who landed more clean, painful, damaging strikes, especially once he locked Ramirez in the clinch, and the judges took note of that as well! Ramirez's corner told him to either knock Jokinen out or dominate him because it was too close to call at that point!

Once again it was both fighters who let it all hang out with their high level of aggression that made the crowd roar with excitement! Jokinen cut Ramirez over the right eye with a sharp, booming left cross that Ramirez just didn't see coming! Ramirez kept right on fighting so credit goes to him, but Jokinen was just too sharp and after the final bell rang, it was Jokinen who earned the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

MIDDLWEIGHT BATTLE: ILYA “SNAIPERSKAJA VINTOVKA” DRAGUNOV (13-3) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus LUDWIG “GIWDUL” MANRES (25-26)

Manres, the fighter who has been in numerous battles, did his best to overcome the youth and skill of Dragunov, but Dragunov proved to be just a bit too much to handle for Manres! Manres did his best to take this fight to the ground and keep it there, but it was Dragunov's defense that prevented Manres from exploiting his Red belt ability in BJJ, and Dragunov was able to land effective shots when the fight was on its feet.

In the 2nd round, it was more of the same story but Dragunov threw Manres off a bit with his own submission attempt that caught Manres a bit off guard. He was able to defend against it but it made him more wary of Dragunov! In the final round, Manres was finally able to mount an effective and consistent ground attack in terms of controlling Dragunov, but he couldn't get the submission finish he needed to win this fight. Dragunov won by UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

FEATHERWEIGHT BATTLE: “INHOTTAVA” PENA TRASSELI (20-8) of BIG BADA BUM versus JAMES ASSANGE (23-8)

These two warriors battled in a rebound match because Assange won the first time and Trasseli felt he should have been the victor, so this was to settle the score! This was yet another punishing and brutal standup war that the crowd ate up and asked for more! Both men traded vicious shots and it was Assange who had his blood spilled by a snapping right cross from Trasseli that opened a rivulet of blood above his right eye!

Despite the cut it was Assange who established himself in the opening round. In the 2nd round, Assange rattled Trasseli's brain with a crushing left hook to the right temple! Despite being dazed, Traselli had enough where-with-all to smile and give a high five to Assange after Assange popped him in the jaw with a solid left hook! Trasseli was able to gather himself enough to finish the round, but he knew he was in trouble heading into the final round.

The 3rd round was just owned by Assange, plain and simple. For everything Trasseli tried to overcome Assange with, he was able to defend, counter, or land with his own solid strikes that kept Trasseli off balance and unable to finish him! Assange earned the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

WELTERWEIGHT BATTLE: KAKE NYRKKI (21-16-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “THE INSTIGATOR” JAKKE RUUTU (14-6) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The final fight of the night featured yet another inter-Alliance battle that had bragging rights on the line! These two didn't hold anything back in yet another toe-to-toe war that the crowd showed great appreciation for! Back-and-forth they went and Ruutu drew first blood with a sharp right cross that sliced Nyrkki over his left eye! Ruutu later took the fight to the ground and was actually booed by some of the crowd because they wanted to see the stand and bang fight! They applauded when the referee forced them back to their feet.

Ruutu took the fight to the ground early in the 2nd round to more boos, but those boos quickly turned to cheers when he began to unload nasty elbows and jaw-snapping forearms and punches! Nyrkki held on for dear life and caused the referee to stand them up, but the damage was done! Ruutu blasted Nyrkki with a savage right cross that really opened up the pouring of blood and the fight had to be stopped! Ruutu earned bragging rights as well as the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

Well there you have it good folks and I appreciate all of you joining me for this review. I've been working with the translator so I'll get better at pronouncing some of these names, but fortunately for me I get to write them, so I won't have to butcher them at all. Now understanding them, well, that's a different story in and of itself. All in due time like all things. This is Furious Styles signing off and I hope you catch my preview of the next Sisu Fights event. Take care and I'll see you at the fights.
