Oh You Didn't Know?

All you need in NFL is speed. Soccer, speed and eye hand cordination, ball control etc etc

Unless you're a quarterback or WR. Not much skill involved

you couldn't have said that worse... lol. but i see your poin t and will say that soccer players require a much more multifaceted skill set and rely less on sheer speed and strength.

If you're athletically gifted, or just freakishly huge NBA and NFL are both for you. I mean if you're born over 7 foot anything you don't really need that much skill to be a successful basketballer, and if you're a certain height/weight you can be a linebacker with some sort of agility. Football/Soccer is completely different, over the entirety of the field their is far more importance on skill than in NBA/NFL where positions can have players based purely on athletic ability. (Superbowl is great spectacle, game this year is disappointing and the stop/start nature makes it hard to watch at times), (NBA All Star Weekend is also a great spectacle, easier to watch for non fans of the sport, but NBA in general has too many blowouts I think).

Furthermore I can't believe the Winter Olympics gets discussed, it seriously is a disappointment every year and this the facilities are pathetic at best.

Quite a pathetic effort given the money they claimed to of invested.

I think you need to watch more NFL games. One thing you left off your list is endurance. All positions in both the NFL and Soccer (except maybe the goalie) need endurance.

I don't doubt that soccer requires speed and coordination as well, but the NFL positions also for the most part require strength. Linemen need strength to push eachother, the rest of the defense (LBs and Secondary) need strength to be able to tackle guys with the ball. The RB, WR, TE need strength to prevent being tackled or block properly... I don't see too many instances in a soccer game where strength is required to succeed.

As internet would say, so wrong on so many levels. I cant imagine how would you protect yourself from media coverage if Olympics were held in usa. Basement contagion? Orwell wrote a warning and yours turned it into blueprint. Not to mention few latest wars without permission of international community(UN), torture(eg. Iraq), nsa bigbrother, depleted uranium, support of terrorist in Syria etcetc But no, gays are problem. Take a good fucking look in the mirror.

I know America bashing is the popular thing to do now days, and I admit America isn't perfect and Bush was an idiot. Americans such as myself already did protest all of those things. I still fail to see how that makes it OK to hunt and beat people to within an inch of their life just because of who they sleep with. I'm not saying they have to have a parade or open up gay marriage, but hunting them down like animals is inhuman. While wrong; nothing the NSA has been caught doing has come close to President KGB. I don't see how anyone could be OK with their identity being stolen the second they use an electronic device. How many damn hackers do they have on their payroll to be that quick? NSA had a hard enough time just getting the phone numbers we call and length of call without even managing to get audio. And shower cams?

Lol, same as in my country. First of all I dont have any problems with gay population, some of them are my friends; but even some of them despise lgbt orgs with their agressiveness, rudeness and agenda. Coverleaf for major problems(corruption, wages, unemployment etcetc) in the country along with other nacionalistic shit.

As I said... No one is asking for a parade. They are not safe in their own homes. The link I provided was from British media to show it is not just us who find this idiotic. The government provides a climate where hundreds of large gangs are going around stalking and hunting them essentially with their permission. Then they have a special police force tasked with nothing else except arresting them.

Soccer, football, basketball, ect... all have their required skill sets. Soccer uses an insane amount of cardio. In football most people are specialists who only need to excel at one or two things, but they need great speed, agility, strength, and balance. Gymnastics and wrestling are two of the most physically intensive sports out there. Basketball requires different skills for different positions and by far is not just about being tall. Mugsy Bogues anyone? Baseball..... Well pitching gets my respect as does hitting a 105mph tiny ball, but you don't exactly have to be in shape.

America is just Canada's disabled step-brother. :ca:

You have hockey and beer - I'll give you those. And don't get me wrong, those are two awesome things. :)

America, fuck yeah, average to below average in the weighted medals tables... yeah. :us:

Spoken like a true jealous non-American. :)

We'll kick your ass in hockey, good enough for me. The only event that really matters.

I agree. The Canadian hockey team is unreal. In fact, the Canadian players NOT selected could win a gold medal.

Soccer is BY FAR the most ''athletic'' sport on the fucking planet. Not sure what JLP has been putting in his glass dick..

Average retirement of soccer players is 30. while NBA (not american) is 38 and in second place. WHILE THE ONLY AMERICAN SPORTS ARE AT 35-40 (football) AND 35-40 for baseball aswell.

Soccer has some of the BEST athletes in the world. And surprisingly, hockey aswell.

Are these the same ''athletes" that get carted off the field when they get kicked in the shins? :)

How many soccer players can run a 4.1 40 yd dash? Bench press 500 lbs? Squat 750 lbs? Not many. If any at all.

Soccer players have great endurance, but I'd hardly call them the world's best athletes.

You provide your "best athlete" and I'll provide mine, then we'll compare them. You first.

Easy as fuck, lebron james. michael jordan, wilt. you pick

but for the lols I will put THIS ONE athlete up against yours.. and that's roger federer.

NBA vs Soccer is undecided. But in terms of PURE athletics. NBA probably has the edge. ONLY because of the required height need of NBA players though.

Crosby of NHL is another honorable mention.

Talk about cherrypicking points, NFL has a greater variety in athletes which allows for increased specialisation and therefore they can easily have the extremes of each physical test, Football/Soccer requires more skill BECAUSE it's not about whos the biggest and fastest.

You can easily use NBA as an example and go who has same vertical leap as x/y.

Football/Soccer can ask who can run a similar beep test/etc.

But that isn't a realistic way of comparing the two sports. Besides, Footballers can't complain about the toughness of the sport when they are wearing that much padding etc and they can't complain when they're only on for two minute bursts of activity (I use bursts of activity very loosely) and than get a rest.

ALL the top NBA players today would EXCEL, AND THEN SOME. In the NFL.

Name ANY top NBA player. and you have a ''record breaker'' for the NFL in the making. Period

But if pushed. I'd say the best of all time. Would have been sugar ray robinson.

That said, the previous NBA players listed would do better in the NFL than ray robinson.

That was my point, top NBA players would ALL BE TOP TEN NFL PLAYERS. Period.

No one said anything about "skill" which is completely different. Comparing soccer to american football isn't even realistic, and anyone that's played either sport knows what I'm saying. American football is a violent game. It's the fastest human game on the planet (without skates, cars, etc), and each "two minute burst" involves collisions and impact that rival the impact felt in a car accident. These guys are walking muscles.

Soccer is about endurance and coordination. I agree they're great at what they do, but they're not on the same level athletically speaking.

Basketball and baseball are two sports that its far more important to have skills than to be a great athlete. Being a great athlete helps, but the skill mechanics involved in playing those two sports are more important. There are plenty of guys in the NBA who are no where near being a world class athlete. There are also many world class athletes in the NBA who aren't very good players relative to the league.

Many of the lineman in the NFL are incredible physical specimens despite their size. They may look slow because the skill position players are possessed of elite level speed and agility. They also put up incredible numbers when it comes to strength. Take a look at the NFL combine numbers of players coming out of college. Some of the size/speed/strength ratios you see there are insane, especially running backs and safeties and these are athletes who are not yet professionals.
