11 skills instead of 13

What does the Tycoon community think about reducing the number of skills from 13 to 11?

The new skill set

  1. Punches
  2. Kicks
  3. Elbows & Knees
  4. Clinchwork
  5. Striking Defense
  6. Ground n Pound
  7. Takedown Off
  8. Takedown Def
  9. Submissions
  10. Defensive Grap
  11. Transitions

Why do it?

  • "Escapes" is an underutilized skill, very few managers seem to invest points in it.
  • If a fighter has "Knees", he probably won't invest any points in "Elbows"
  • If he has "Elbows" he probably wont' invest any points in "Knees".

The Benefits (IMHO)

  • Same points / Less skills = fighters would be more complete.
  • All skills would be important.
  • There wouldn't be any modification needed to the sliders structure:
    • "Elbows & Knees" would cover all the strikes from inside the clinch that are not punches, and you could still decide if you wanted to land more Elbows than Knees and vice versa. The Sliders would remain the same.
    • You could emulate "Escape" with a more difficult "Transitions" move, without modifying the silders.

I don't see any drawbacks honestly (IMHO)

Thanks.

i perfer adding skill so that fighters cant be great at everything to be honest i would rather it be

  1. Punches (standing)
  2. Kicks (standing)
  3. Elbows (standing and clinch can only target head)
  4. Knees (clinch)
  5. Dirty Boxing (clinch)
  6. Clinchwork
  7. Striking Defense
  8. Ground n Pound
  9. Takedown Off
  10. Takedown Def
  11. Submissions
  12. Defensive Grap
  13. Transitions
  14. Escapes (decrease standup chance and increase escape chance so escapes become relevent again)

This is not a benefit in my opinion, I'd much prefer all fighters to be a lot less 'complete'. I think rather than removing escapes it needs to be made more effective, and I'm happy with knees and elbows being seperate like it is now.

This will lead to more fighters being the exact same, which is not what we need.

I agree, i dont want to remove any skills, i like them there because fighters are already beginning to look exactly the same, what i would propose would to be lowering the primary skill cap so that we would have more diversity between elite fighters.

Arcalimon i see you have all 25 year olds so i see why you would want that but once you get a few top tier or just fighters in their peaks you will see that we dont need less skills. Its odd youve been so successful to be so new, but i dont really like this idea at all

I'm not a "new" guy, I was here 3-4 years ago as a VIP, now I'm back with vengeance! :training2:

My account was deleted, I had to re-start everything. Better this way I guess

On a side note,

I remember there was no "escapes" back then, am I wrong?

Yup. Mike added it so elite fighters wouldnt be exactly the same. Thats what majority of managers wanted, that's what we got. I hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighly doubt Mike will go back to lower skill numbers now. We could go for more than less IMO. I wouldn't mind having something like counterstriking skill, instead of random, equal chance for counter. There are guys who were made to counter strike, while some guys shouldnt even attempt it, so counterstriking skill would work for me.

To succesfully counterstrike you already have to have a lot of skills. Striking Defense, Agility and Speed. Also, you need to know the type of attack your opponent throws as well - for example if he kicks, you need to have better kicks to avoid them, this combines to Agility and Striking Defense. When you avoid the strike, it comes to your speed IF YOU WILL counter. When you are countering, your counter power depends on both your speed and for ex. punches (if your counter is a punch). This is how counters work :)

Oh my bad man, you are back with a vengeance then lol but yeah there were no escapes before, but i still think i'd rather have more skills than less, usually fighters dont have any knees or elbows or escapes and either Takedown O or Takedown D.

But lowering the primary cap or something will give fighters the diversity, for example:

If we too the UFC fighters and put them in the game theyd be roughly like this (i know people will disagree to a point)

Johny Hendricks would be something like a 15-13-15-Purple

Chris Weidman 12 - 12- 15 - Black

Jon Jones 13 - 15 - 14 - Black

Machida 14 - 15 - 12 - Brown

Souza 12 - 12 - 15 - Black

Whereas here, all of the elite fighters, and non-elites who are just 28-33 years old end up 15 - 15 -15 Blackbelts... that brings us no diversity especially when none of the top fighters are submission artists and a lot of them dont use knees or elbows...

Im pretty sure Chris knows how counters work, he was ranked #4 at one time, i think you missed his point, it is far easier to counter than it should be, there should be a countering skill which is separate sort of like timing in real life so that you wont automatically be taken down because your opponent is a better wrestler than you

Ok, I understood.

The only thing that could be done is fix the referee standup, so that escapes become a relevant skill

this is true -- ref stand ups happen way to much -- if you have to work hard for a takedown then they should have to work hard to get back up -- thats why many say escapes is worthless cause too easy to get ref stand up

But my point is that counterstriking already asks for a lot of skills to be high level.. I don't think we need another one. But this is just my opinion :)

Jacare would be a red belt.

I knew someone would say something, but you get the point, sometimes i feel like everyone is fighting with generic superstars with perfect physique and skills

I think we need to think of something that would make submissions work more in the game. Now all the top guys are only strikers :/

Bantamweights and featherweights have some sub fighters, the heavier ones are basically striking all the way.

Yeah, but in general all im saying is, if fighters werent elite or sensational all across the board the game would in turn be a lot more fun due to diversity, whether youre a subs guy or a standup guy in the top 10, they both have a black-belt so skillwise theyre basically the same, i dont believe every fighter should be a master in everything

3-4 years ago, all the top fighters and basically all the org champions were strikers.

Nowadays I see a lot of champions which are grapplers or hybrids, and some of them are even among the elite of the game (although the strikers are still the majority).

A big improvement IMHO, and one of the reason that made me want to come back playing the game

Look at top 10 @ every wc. Not so many sub specialists. We definitely need to lower the skill cap.
